Hp officejet pro 8600 scan to windows 8 computer

can anyone out there assist, attempting to get my hp officejet pro 8600 to scan to my windows 8 computer?

Ron,
I am having a similar problem.
My printer is on the network, I've installed all the software (full feature), but I can't seem to find where you guys put access to the 'control pannel' where I can print, scan, etc... directly from my laptop.
It popped up after installation of the software, but when I closed it I expected to have a desktop icon, or sys tray access. I can't find a way to open up that control pannel again. I have the all in onwe deskjet pro 8600.
Help? Thanks,
H

I have Windows 8.1 64 bit.   I installed Officejet Pro 8600 e-all-in-one-printer N-911a using OJ8600-1315.exe.   The printer and software worked fine in Windows 7.   In Windows 8.1, the printer works well wirlessly.   It prints, scans, and copies with no problem.   I can use the window on the printer to start scanning and copying.   However, I have an icon on the Windows 8.1 Start Page that says Officejet Pro 8600.   When I click on it, it opens a window labled HPSolutionsPortal.hta - Microsoft Visual Studio.  I do not get the Officejet software where I can control the resolution of scans and files produced by the printer.   How can I access the HP Officejet Pro software?

    Gi,
From the Control Panel go to Programs and then select Default Programs.
Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a specific product.
Locate the .hta prefix, double click it, click on More Options and select the Microsoft (R) HTML Application host option instead the selected Visual Studio.
If you cannot find this option within the list scrool to its very end and click on Look for another file on your PC.
    Browse and select C:\windows\system32\mshta.exe.
Confirm the changes and check for any difference.
If you still see any other type of error, install the patch by following the steps for Windows 8 below:

  • How do I print 4x6 photos on an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus via Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery

Dear Experts, I've got an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer with just one paper tray in which I loaded 4x6 photo paper.
The printer was purchased in January 2014, the latest drivers are installed. Now I would like to print a single 4x6 photo using Windows Photo Viewer or Gallery.I loaded the 4x6 photo paper  into the tray as indicated by the little icon labeled 4x6in, so I suppose I got the HW part right. It's just the SW part which gives me a hard time. The available paper size options in Windows Photo Viewer and Gallerydon't include photo paper sizes, just the standard paper and envelope sizes.Hence I checked in the HP Printer Assistant in "Set Preferences" what kind of paper sizes are available, and there is exactly the same list as proposed by Gallery, missing photo paper sizes. So I guess Gallery just picks the sizes from the driver and ther are no photo paper sizes. This is an issue because I prefer to print from my PC using Win 7 or Win 8 and not from a SD card or a USB stick. Any help is very welcome, thank you in advance!

Thank you for this link! Actually I installed a brand new Windows 8 system in January 2014 and then bought the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer a few days later. To install this printer I did not use the CD that came with it but already used this link. Just to be sure that I have the latest version I again reinstalled the driver. The result is definitive: You cannot print common photo paper sizes like 4x6,  5x7, 8x10, etc. via a PC using photo SW like HP Photo Creations, MS Gallery, Windows Photo Viewer or any other SW on a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. The reason is most likely that HP marketing decided that an Officejet should not be smart enough for photos, after all the company sells also Photosmarts. Because you cannot create your own formats  you are limited by the driver to what is typically available in an office, in this case:  A4, Letter, legal, Statement, Executive, A4, A5, A6, B54 (JIS), Envelopes #10-DL-C5-C6-A2-Monarch, Japanese Postcard, Japanese Envelope Chou #3-#4, L, 2L, O**bleep**u hagaki, Index Card Letter-A4, Edge-to-Edge Letter-A4, Env. Japanese No 3-No 4 and that's it, not more. Thank you anyway for trying to help me but in this case only the SW developers in HP can help.It would be great to be able to print from time to time a 4x6 photo on this printer like I would do.Copying photos on a USB stick or on a SD card first and then use this way to print on the printer is too cumbersome for me.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 scans have vertical lines.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8600 and my scans have vertical lines.  Copying does not have the lines.

I used the ADF and the flat bed to scan; both having lines as a result.
In one of the forums and they thought it was static.  It was suggested to have the printer on and then unplug it.  Wait 15 seconds and plug it back in.  That did the trick.  No more lines.  I guess with winter bringing on more dry air, static is prevalent.
    Problem solved.
    Thanks

Hi shoffice, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Please let me know how that goes.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g on windows 8.1

My printer goes offline, prints slowly, and is a constant source of frustration.  After looking on the forum topics, I see I am not alone.  We all have spent hours trying to find solutions.
HP doesn't appear to be motivated to solve the issue of the printer dropping the network.  HTey need to  take the complaints back to the HP programers and come up with a fix.   I shouldn't have to be so involved in manually setting IP addresses andDHCP configurations.  I spent $ 400 on a machine that should work without me having to learn source code.
Please come up with a fix that stops the printer from roaming for a new network after a few hours.  It's not the router.  It's not the network.  It's the printer.

Hello Bdavie, Welcome to the Forums
I saw your post about your Officejet 8600 printer dropping off of your network and searching for a network to join. I understand this is happening often and I realize the problem is frustrating. I am unsure of which troubleshooting steps you have tried to help fix the problem, however, I would like to share with you a guide for this specific issue. I have seen many times, where assigning a static ip to the printer has helped with this.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 scan to computer with Mac OS 10.6.8

I have reinstalled the software, selecting HP Recommended Software.  I have restarted the computer and done a software update.  I can print from my computer to the printer.  But I cannot "scan to computer" using the touchpad on the front of the printer.  When I select it, the message says "No Computer Found."   When I open the HP utility on the computer, under scan settings there is NO "scan to computer" option to select, even though the printer says I need to select it.
I can scan a document using by opening the settings on the computer, but I cannot figure out how to tell it to use the document feeder.  So I figured I would try it from the printer itself.  But I cannot get that to work.

Try scanning FROM your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 N911a and windows 8.1

I have been using the above mentioned printer for some time, but I'm now experiencing a problem in my set-up.
I get an error message saying "Cannot communicate with the printer" on my windows 8.1 stationary PC, and when I start troubleshooting with the HPprint and scandoctor the problem lies with the printqueue connection to the printer.
The error message asks me to update the IP-adress on the printer startpage, but I fail to identify the place to do so. Is it on the printer or somewhere inside the windows controlpanel?
Reinstalling the printer and restarting the windows machine helps (sometimes more than sometimes).
The printer connects wireless to my homenetwork through a TDC SAgem router and my W8.1 PC is connected to the same router via cable.
I have not met the problem when I print from my Ipad or Iphone both of course wireless.
How do I update the IP-adress or better how do I solve the actual problem??
    Thank you in advance.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Faxes from Win 7 computer are cancelled

When attempting to fax from the computer (i.e. word doc) the fax is cancelled.
I have a wireless network, but the computer I am faxing from and the HP 8600 are connected to the router via RJ45 connections.
I can fax OK from the HP8600 control panel, and all other printing functions work OK from this computer and other wireless connected PC's.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 on the computer I am trying to fax from.
I have read other forum entries that seem to indicate that only a USB connection allows faxing from the computer.  Is this correct, or am I missing a driver for ethernet connected devices?  Thank you.

    Hey there @rich126 ,
I have been researching the issue you're having with your faxes from Microsoft Word being cancelled, when attempting to send a fax from your PC. I haven't found any concrete information stating that faxes will not work if an ethernet connection is being used, nor have I found any stating that it should work.
Could you try connecting a USB and then try faxing from your PC again and let me know what happens?
If you notice any other errors or messages please include them too and I will continue to look into this for you.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer may help, if you wish to give that a shot.
Enjoy the rest of your day

  • I can print a test page from my Mac to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 but nothing else will print

Hi - I just recently had a hard drive crash and had to revert to an old Time Machine backup on my new hard drive to get my Mac back.  Since getting back up and running I have been unable to get my Officejet Pro 8600 back online.  My computer is wired to the wireless router but the printer is running wireless.  My computer can see the printer just fine and I can even print a "Print Quality Diagnostic" report from my Mac to the printer from the HP utility.  But nothing else will print.  The firmware is up to date.  I have tried resetting the printing system multiple times, rebooting the machine, etc... Nothing works.  Any help would be appreciated.
If it helps, we were using a different printer the last time the time machine was backed up, so when we used that backup the old printer was showing, but I reset the printing system, so it shouldn't matter.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello @Ryan221,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see your hard drive recently crashed and now you are not longer able to print to your HP Officejet Pro 8600. I see you have reset the printing system with no success. Let's try a different approach:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless - Where are the printing shortcuts?????

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Printer
    Windows 7
    Where are the printing shortcuts?????
I just replaced a canon printer that died that had the concept of PROFILES, so that I could setup a PROFILE for each type of printing, i.e. 4X6 photos/documents/5X7 photos.  So it was easy for our family to print, they would pick each setting.
Now with latest driver for 8600 there are NO way to save a set of settings for a printer.   I have seen some old discussions on this but I just can't believe HP doesn't have this type of functionality in their drivers.  I don't need the ePrint and all the other bogus stuff installed with the 8600 driver, but I DO NEED the ability to save different sets of printing options so I don't have to remember, borderless or not, landscape or not, etc and keep wasting photo paper/ink/regular paper with incorrect options.
Here is another posting with similar points -> Customers are NOT getting full print functionality.  We don't care about the extra software, it is minimal.  Full functionality includes the ability to create profiles for different printing situations so that the user can easily choose that profile (and therefore all the myriad settings for that profile).  What HP has done is give us ONE profile, essentially, and every time you want to do something different, you have to change that ONE profile.  How is that helping?
As I said, if I want to switch from a normal printing job (e-mail, web page, etc.) which uses my ONE setting, and then want to print a 4x6 photo, I have to remember to change at least 6 different settings.  With the shortcut, I would select my "borderless photo" shortcut, and it would automatically switch paper trays, size, color, quality, you name it.  Now you force me to change that each and every time.
If someone can explain why this is considered full functionality I would be extremely grateful.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are having trouble with your print experience.
I am going to make some assumptions here, which could be wrong in your case, but might help others.  Since you mention printing from Windows7 and ePrint in the same thread, can I assume you are trying to print using the HP ePrint driver for windows (www.hp.com/go/eprintsoftware) ?  The ePrint driver also comes preinstalled on all HP laptops and pcs now, so maybe you made a recent pc purchase and therefore have the ePrint driver installed?
The goal of the ePrint windows driver currently has a lot less to do with providing the hundreds of print features and settings that the full featured, product specific print drivers provide.  The goal is to enable customers to be able to print to any recent or new HP printer through a number of different connection paths from a single installed print driver / print queue.  Once the ePrint driver is installed, printing with that driver will dynamically find direct network printers, cloud enabled printers, public print locations, direct wireless printers, etc., and create the correct print format depending on the print path taken.  If the printer is ePrint cloud enabled and has a good internet connection, the printer and the pc do not have to be in the same location.  For example, you can print from home to your printer at work.  You can send photos of the kids to your mom's printer in another state, etc.  The ePrint solution is also good for the traveling worker who just wants to send the occasional print job to the nearest network or wireless direct printer without having to find and install another print driver for each new printer.  One driver, one queue and you can print to any recent or new HP printer.
The ePrint driver has a few important print settings that customers may want to use (copies, duplex, grayscale, etc).  More may be added over time depending on demand.
BTW, because the ePrint driver does not have a ton of print settings to handle, the rendering of print jobs is as simple and efficient as possible and should not bog down your pc.
If you want all the bells and whistles in the print driver experience and just want to print to a single printer you can download and install the product specific print driver from hp.com
I hope that helps out a few people who may be wondering what the purpose of ePrint is!!
    Good luck.

Yes if the printhead is damaged, it would need replaced (to print). But beforedo that, please double check it's not something simple like forgot to removethe protective cover, didn't seat the cartridge properly, etc. see: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?spf_p.tpst=kbDocDispl...
