HP Officejet Pro 8600: "unable to connect to my device" after loading full featured

I read the forums and installed the full featured drivers.  During installation it asks me to connect to my device using USB cable.  I did this, but it doesn't see my device.  I tried a different cable, same issue.  Both the computer and the printer are on ... I printed a test page wirelessly to make sure the printer was responding.  (The wireless printing was working prior to installing the new drivers.)
I am running windows 8 on HP Envy.
I am trying to get it to scan wirelessly and loading the drivers was the answer on the forum.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vanya

Hello there, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about your Officejet 8600 not functioning on your Windows 8 system. I would suggest trying to install the printer by using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows for starters.
If that method does not work, please follow the next guide very carefully.

I have only had the printer for a couple of months. Initially had probelms with the network connection which was resolved by manually inserting the IP address outside the DHCP range.
I now keep getting a mesagesaying the scanner is not available. I try and re-enable it but that doesn't work
I have run the scan doctor and followed the instructions but it is unable to resolve the issue.
I have un-installed and re-installed the drivers and that doesn't work.
The is now mention of the IP address but as I had all the problems before I am reluctant to interfere withe the IP address as the printer itself is OK.
Nothing has been changed on my system, I haven't actually used the scanner to date but suddenly notice the error message on my tool bar and then found the scanner wouldn't work.
I would be grateful for any help.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: "Unable to Communicate with Printer" error message

I receive the error message "Unable to Communicate with Printer" regularly when I print. Sometimes it will print 3 or 4 times just fine before I get this message. Sometimes it happens my first try at printing. I then have to reboot my computer to get it to work again. My OS is Windows 7 and my printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8600. My printer is wired to my computer. I have tried re-installing the printer software but this did not help. I've had this printer for only four months. Started happening after the second month. Any suggestions?

I finally solved it.  Reflecting back on previous message boards I decided to try one last time.  Some posters have found the problem in the Antivirus, Firewall protections.  (By the way, I had even upgraded my router with no luck).I have Norton AntiVirus provided by the cable company.1. I turned off everything in the firewall.  Although this left me vulnerable for a few mintues, I needed a fast test.2. It worked!  I was able to print something immediately.3. I went back into the firewall, turned everything back on but turned off an individual switch within the firewall that said to "share the printer. "4. After turning it off, I was able to print and still have the most important parts of the firewall. This ultimately met my needs.Perhaps HP could:1. Do a better job at beta testing prior to release, including various brands of firewalls.  Is there even a beta test process?2. Provide a better description of the error since all indicators within the drivers say the printer is connected.  There should be a message indicating that it's connected but unable to print due to firewall protections.

  • Officejet pro 8600 will not connect to wireless network

I have an new Officejet Pro 8600 that I am trying to set up.  I have run the the wireless network setup wizard multiple times.  It recognizes the wireless network router asks for the WEP code and then thinks for about 5 minutes before returning a message: "Unable to connect to the network"
The wireless network test results suggestes that MAC address filtering may be the problem.  There is no MAC filtering function activated on our wireless router.
    The wireless router is a Verizon Actiontec MI424-WR    802.11 b & n
We have computers running both Windows XP and MAC OS X.
One of the reasons that we purchased this printer is for the wireless capabilities.  If it will not conect to the web then it may be going back.

    Hello,
Based on the provided details, I believe the issue have something to do with the wireless security settings of your router.
Please follow the steps below to access the Advanced Security Settings:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSInternet/Networking/Setup/ActiontecMI424/125511.htm
Below you will see the Network Authentication settings.
Select either Open System Authentication or Both.
Shared Key Authentication is not supported by the printer, and i believe this might be the cause for the connection failure.
Please let me know of any change,

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't connect to my wireless router

This is bizarre.  I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 for about 6 months.  It has generally worked fine, and we have used it wirelessly only.  But now it refuses to connect to the router.  It can FIND the router, and it can find other networks in the area, but it won't connect to the router.  I ran the Wireless Network Test, and the results say:
Wireless On - Pass // Wireless Working - Pass //
Network Name (SSID) found - Pass //  Wireless Networks Detected - 9
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings - Pass / No Filtering - FAIL //
So it recommends solution as follows: "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled, and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."
Except, guess what, I don't have MAC Address filtering enabled.  I wouldn't know how to do that, much less check for it.
Also, before today, this was never a problem.  HELP!
    Thanks....
If you are interested, here's more detail and background.
Before today, the only problem we have had is that frequently our Apple laptop (OS X 10.6) has trouble connecting to the printer.  This has been odd because the printer is connected to the network, and so is the laptop, but the laptop can't find the printer - it thinks the printer is "offline" (even though it's not).  Usually, if I wait a while, it will find the printer, and it will resolve itself work fine.  If not, we sometimes have found that it can fix itself if you restart the laptop -- restarting the printer does not make a difference.   In fact, I did exactly that today, and it resolved itself.  And I printed.  Fine, right?
But then I wanted to do more printing, and the problem of the laptop not finding the printer came up again, so I decided to really "get to the bottom of this."  I don't remember exactly what I did, but somehow I was persuaded by the online help, that the correct solution would be to go into my System Preferences / Print and Fax, and click on the "-", which de-installs the printer, with the idea of re-installing the printer.  But then when I tried to re-install the printer, it could not find the printer.  Ugh!  Wierdly, it found an 8600 Scanner, but not an 8600 printers.  After installing and de-installing the 8600 scanner a few times, I eventually deinstalled everything, and I decided to start from scratch.  I got my HP disk, and installed all the software again from the beginning (even though it was already there), and then it looked for my printer, but couldn't find it.  So then I got a USB cord, and plugged that in.
So, now I have a situation where I do have a working printer via the USB cord, but no wireless connection at all.  In particular, since the Office Jet Pro 8600 won't connect to the router, I don't know what else to do.  My Apple MacBook pro is 2 feet away from the printer, and it is connected to the router just fine (as is my blackberry), and I have never before had a problem connecting to the wireless router by the printer.
    Any suggestions?

There are two things that can trip the mac filtering test to fail:  actual MAC address filtering setup (sounds like this is not the case) and using wireless channel 6 or automatic for wireless channel in the wireless network settings (in the router).  Since it does show failed for MAC filtering and you do not use this option, try changing the wireless channel in the router to 1 or 11.  Those two channels provide the best compatibility with printers due to less interference.  Almost everything defaults to auto or 6 for the channel and this causes a lot of interference.  This change should not affect anything at all.  To do this, you may need to contact the router manufacturer as the process differs from router to router.
What brand and model is the router?
Has anything in the network settings changed at all?
What version is the Mac OS X?  There may be additional steps to take as it sounds like there are two separate issues involved and this could be revisited later.

  • Can't get officeJet Pro 8600 wireless to connect

This is so frustrating. I just bought a HP Officejet Pro 8600 and am trying to set up the wireless connection to my ATT-supplied Netgear 7550 router.  I keep getting a message that "MAC address filtering is enabled on your wireless router" even though I have checked in the router setup and I am certain that it is not (it clearly says MAC is "not enabled").  I talked to the ATT tech support and they agreed--we even hard-rebooted the router and re-installed it and it seems to be working as intended.   I have unplugged and re-plugged the printer.  I have spent over 2 hours and keep getting the same message.
    Help?
Oh, I have also tried the HP Dr. software taht has been recommended to others, but it does not find my printer.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I already tried that once. I added the printer MAC address and selected "allow this address" or something like that. It did not seem to help, so I went back and disabled the MAC filtering completely. But, I can try that again. Certainly won't hurt.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 unable to open scan / printer options to scan

This was working last week.  Trovi.com got on the computer and has since been taken off by Spy Hunter.  Now I am unable to scan.  I have uninstalled and installed using the disk twice but it still does not let me scan, only print.  I am using Windows 8.  What else do I need to do?  Usually this goes really smooth.  What am i doing wrong?

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't connect to wireless with Wireless extender connected

I am trying to get an Officejet Pro 8600 to connect to a wireless network, but it will not connect when my wireless network extender is connected. Once I disconnect the extender, it connects fine. Here is the setup. I have a Netgear wireless cable gateway CG3000D with a Amped Wireless Dual Band Router (R20000G) connected to the Netgear via ethernet cable. The Amped router is setup as a wireless extender, the Netgear and Amped share the same SSID. All my other devices work just fine connecting, laptops, cell phones, and IPads. When the Officejet 8600 tries to connect with the Amped connected, it tells me invalid password. Once I disconnect the Amped, the Officejet connects just fine. Any ideas how to get the Officejet to connect to the wireless with the Amped extender connected? Thanks

Are you using the same passkey on the extended network? (It is best to)
If so I would try using different SSIDs.  The printer will try to connect to the network with the better signal which might change depending on wireless interference.  There is no way to force the printer to connect to one network over another if the SSIDs are the same.
One other possibility.  Is the passkey the same for both 2.4 and 5ghz on the Amped Dual Band router?  Most routers can be set up to have different passkeys for each band.  The printer is a 2.5ghz device and will need that password the same on both the Amped and Netgear routers.
Please let me know your results.  Extending networks is becomming more common.  Understanding how to work with them will help everyone.

  • Hp officejet pro 8610 - Unable to connect to server

Hello. I bought a printer hp officejet pro 8610. I have a home worth router Zyxel Keenetik. My laptop and smartphone access to the Internet via a router (to access the Internet proxy server is not required). I set up the printer on a wireless connection. Configured to print from a laptop to a local network - this works fine. And now trying to set up ePrint, but faced with the problem - I can not run a web-service on the printer. The message - "Unable to connect to server". I downloaded from HP new version of firmware for the printer and installed it, but the problem remained.

    Hi,
Try setting a manual public DNS as following and check if that may help:
Open the Network tab within the printer's web page.
Select IPv4 within the Wireless section.
Select a Manual IP, then click the Suggest an IP button and allow it a few moments.
Once the fields being updated, change the DNS section as following:
    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4.
Apply and save the changes, then try enableing Web Services again and check for any difference.
Please let me know if that may help,

  • Officejet Pro 8500A unable to connect wirelessly to Ubee Modem/Router

I recently upgraded to a new "all in one" Ubee Modem Router (Model DDW366) and have spent hours attempting to wirelessly (both using Wizard and entering info by hand) print, but nothing has worked.  The only way I am able to print at this time is by printer cable connected to my MacBook Pro.  I'm unable to print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad.
HP will not advise me on how to solve this problem as printer is no longer under warranty and Cox Cable who sold me the Modem/Router combo are not willing to assist with this problem.
Can anyone advise me on how to print wirelessly again?

    Hello @drlogan0,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are encountering problems with getting your Officejet pro 8500A onto your new wireless network.
    I would like to help.
i would try restoring the network defaults. This will help erase any 'old' information that may be stuck in the printers memory. I would like to give you specific steps for this, but I am unsure if you have the 8500A, 8500A wireless, or the 8500A premium.
Basically the steps are, go into the network menu, and select restore network defaults.
If you have tried restoring the network defaults already, please review the following troubleshooting documents.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus not connecting

My printer has stopped connecting to my computer.  When I click on the control panel on the printer for wireless connection, it tells me that the wireless connection has been disabled and I should contact the printer's administrator.  I am the only user of the printer, so this is not an answer.  I have spent hours trying to get this printer to connect to my MacBookPro, and it won't recognize the printer even with a cable.  And the printer driver seems not to have been updated for over two years (a link to an alleged more current version leads to a dead web page). I have run the HP wireless setup software on my Mac repeatedly but it fails to connect to the printer.

    Hello @JeanneS1 ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are haveing a problem connecting to your 8600 Plus over the wireless network.
    I would like to help.
I would doubble check the wireless on the printer.
Touch the wireless icon, if it has an IP address Type it inot safari and try to reach the EWS.
If it does not have an IP, or says no link, go into the setup menu.
Then go into the Network sub menu and select the wireless setup wizard.
If the printer has an IP address and you can't reach the Embedded Web Server (EWS), I would power off the printer.
Then unplug the power to your router of one minute.  Plug the power back into the router and turn the printer back on.
When the blue wireless light on the printer stops blinking try to connect the printer again.
If the newtork connection is fine, I would uninstall the HP software again.
Then I would verify and repair the disk permissions.
Once that is done, check for Apple updates.
    Restart/reboot the Mac.
    Install the HP software again.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - Wireless connection issues with Wireless Extender

I have a TPLink Wireless 300MBps wall plug extender to boost the wireless signal around my home.
When in use my OfficeJet fails to connect to the wireless network at all, even if you 're-configure' the wireless as a new connection from the printer.
Turn off the extender, reboot the printer, and voila - it connects within seconds.
Any ideas as to what I can try?

I think there are several things at play here.  The most suspicious is that the extender and the router are not the same brand.  There may be some protocol issues with this setup that the printer will never be happy with.
Can you move your main router and forget the extender?
