  • My HP Officejet Pro 8600 can't print from my MacBook Air

    Hi,
My HP Officejet Pro 8600 can't print from my MacBook Air. It keeps on showing "The printer is not connected", but the screen on the printer shows connected. I often reset the printer 'EVERY TIME" I want to use it. I also tried to turn off my laptop and printer several times before printing. If I'm lucky enough, it will work maybe for one or two prints. If no luck then I'll have to reset everything again. Sometimes I reset the printer, the printer will not show on my selection.

    Hello boojoo1tw,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to print most times with your Officejet 8600. How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB? What is your operating system on your Mac computer? Click here to find out.
If your printer is wireless, then I would recommend assigning a "Static IP Address" by following this HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • How do i get the hp officejet pro 8600 premium to print from my ipad2 using airprint?

how do i get the hp officejet pro 8600 premium to print from my ipad2 using airprint? The iPad does not see the printer.

    Hi RiverBirch,
What brand and model is your router?
First, connect your printer to your router.
    1. From printer front panel, press Wireless>Wireless Settings>Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the onscreen instructions to successfully connect your printer with an IP address.
Secondly, connect your iPad to the same router.
    1. Connect your iPad to the Internet and download the free HP ePrint Home & Biz app from the apps store.
    2. Connect your iPad to the same network as the printer. Settings>Network.
    3. Use the new HP Home & Biz app to print and scan photos or docs from your iPad!
Alternatively, you can also perform Airprint on the iPad thru the wireless network from the Photos menu in your iPad.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't print PDF's

Just bought a new OJP 8600 (3rd HP printer in a year, starting to get VERY frustrated). I've searched through all of the forums, all over the internet and cannot find a solution.  I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.3. I can't print any PDF files either through Acrobat 10.1.10 or Preview.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi thelmacotton, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are having issues printing PDF's.  I would like to try and help.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Driver- OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print OS 10.7.5

I'm attempting to use an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911a wirelessly with OS 10.7.5
I had some issues with my Mac that required me to install a new hard drive and re-install the OS from scratch. But, instead of re-installing OS 10.6.8 I decided to upgrade to OS 10.7.5. But, now I can't print from my Mac. The Print Queue just shows the image below, but the page never comes out.
The Printer is seen by the computer and everything appears normal:
I can successfully use other features of the printer such as, Scan to Computer, so I know the network is setup correctly.
I should note that I could only use Scan to Computer after I modified the Computer Name. I had originally setup the Scan to Computer features when I was on OS 10.6.8 and the computer name was "MacPro", after installing OS 10.7.5 I discovered the computer name was "[User]'s MacPro" and the Scan menu on the printer only saw MacPro. After modifying the computer name I was able to enable and use Scan to Computer, so I know there is a connection between the two.
I have tried (in no particular order):
    Resetting Print Preferences
    Reparing Disk Permissions
Ensuring all software is up to date
    Rebooting Mac/Printer/Router
    I have not tried:
Reconfiguring the Wireless Setup on the printer (I'd like to avoid this because the printer is working for all other computers on the network.
Is there something I'm missing? Any advice is appreciated.

    Ok, this is weird.
Almost immediately after posting the problem, the printer came to life and started printing. To my surprise it was the print job that was in the Queue!
I don't know what happened or changed, but it seems that it did manage to print.
I just sent another test page to the printer and it cleared itself in the Queue, but I have not seen the document come out of the printer yet.
    What is going on?

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus wont print from Mac 10.5.8

    Hello,
I just purchased the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and I'm running it wired through my router.  I'm able to print with my PC, my IPad and my phone but I cant print with my mac running OS 10.5.8.
When I try to print it puts the document in the print que and says "printing" but nothing happens at the printer.  I can scan to my mac from the printer and everything seems to indicate that the printer is connected.
I have downloaded the latest HP driver for Mac 10.5.  Also i have reset the printer (holding down the option key while deleting the printer from the system preferences) several times and re-added the printer.  Still nothing.
    Any ideas?
    Greg

    Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Option click the '+' sign and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 2-sided printing from iPad or iPhone

Hi - I just purchased an officejet pro 8600 so that I can print from my iPad or iPhone.  It has the 2 sided printing but I want to know if there is a way to turn of the 2 sided printing from these devices.  Right now when I print it automatically defaults to the 2-sided printing but I would prefer 1 side printing only.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Officejet pro 8600 won't print

    Hi,
I have an Officejet pro 8600 wireless with a Mac OSx 10.6. All has worked fine up to now - I have owned for a few months. Today it stopped printing for me. No error messages, just any print job stuck in the queue - Printer just says 'Idle' or 'Ready'. I have worked through HP's troubleshooting - and have tried all their suggestions - restart, unplug, delete and re-add printer, check wireless, to no avail.
    Any other suggestions?
And why can't there be a direct link to HP Support? I don't mind trying to solve the problem myself at first but when that doesn't work it would be nice to be able to call or IM someone at HP.

  • Officejet Pro 8620 won't print from microsoft or thunderbird

I have installed the printer drivers for my new OfficeJet Pro 8620 and am not able to print from Microsoft Word or Thunderbird.  I can print from Google Chrome.
I am running Windows 7 and have already reinstalled the printer software several times.

    Hello @dmcairns,
I understand that you're having printing issues with MS Word and Thunderbird on your Windows 7 computer when printing to your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now you mentioned that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail. I do believe that because you can print from certain programs on your computer that you are experiencing a driver conflict with those two programs. To resolve this issue, can I please have you run through the steps below.
I am going to have you load an alternate driver on your printer. This will not cause you to lose any functionality at all. You will not notice any difference in the performance of your printer or the capabilities. The only thing that should change, is the fact that your printer will be able to print from every program!
    Step 1: Clear Temp files:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start when you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select 'delete' on your keyboard. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files as they are just temporary internet files. Should a file still be used by a program on your computer than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' the file.
Once the Temp folder is emptied, close the folder
Right click on your Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    Step 2: Download Alternate Driver:
Please click here to download the alternate Officejet driver package
Once the website opens, select the Download button
    Allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete, an extraction will automatically occur and then the installation will pop open. Close any installation window that opens.
    Step 3: Add Alternate Driver:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens you will see a folder that starts with 7z.... Click on that folder to open it
Scroll through this folder and ensure that it has files that start with OJ860 files in it. You do not want to see OJ862 files. Once you verify that you're in the right folder with the OJ860 files in it, look at the top of this folder and you will see the file path. It should show something like 'local disk C - Users - Username - AppData - Local - Temp - 7z. . . .  Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar and everything will highlight. Right click on the highlighted file path and Copy it.
    Close the Temp folder
    Click on your Start menu
    Select Devices and Printers
Right click on your HP Officejet 8620 and left click on Printer Properties
    Select the Advanced tab
Select 'New Driver' and hit 'next' until you see a list of Manufacturers on the left and a list of Printers on the right.
Select Have Disk on the bottom right. An 'Install from disk' window will pop open. Right click on the file path bar and Paste in the file path we previously copied.
    Select OK
Select the HP Officejet 8600 and hit next
When you're brought back to the Printer Properties window, select Apply but don't hit OK
Click the General tab and rename your printer back to Officejet 8620
    Select OK
Please try to print from a few different programs to verify that everything is printing properly now.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I wish you luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8630 won't print from tray 2; says there's no paper

    Action: Print from tray 2.
Expected Results: Paper feeds from tray 2 and prints.
Actual Results: Printer displays "out of paper" dialog.
Notes: Ever since I purchased the Officejet Pro 8630 six or eight months ago, tray 2 has not functioned. It says there's no paper in that tray. I've tried multiple types of letter sized paper. I've inspected the bottom of the main printer unit and the top of tray 2 for signs of damage; there doesn't seem to be any.
Tray 1 works just fine. It's actually a fantastic printer. The best I've owned. If only Tray 2 would work.

  • How do I get my HP Officejet Pro 8500 won't print from a program called "The Print Shop 12"?

I can not get my printer to print from this one program I have called "The Print Shop 12." I don't get an error message, it acts like it want to print but then nothing.

I do not know about the Print Shop program but I know that sometimes quickbooks has this issue. We have two different work around for this, 1st one  Click your start button go to your printer & devices folder and right click the 8500 printer and either RENAME it or go to Properties to Rename is to OJ8500 and then Apply and safe that change and try it.
2nd step if that does not work, click start, go back to the printers and faxes and "add a printer" when you get to the list of manufactures click HP or Hewlett-Packard and look for the deskjet ICC printer and add it, naming it PrintShop and then you should be able to printer threw that program.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print wirelessly

    Hi All
I purchased a new 8600 (N911a) 2 days ago and can't get it to print wirelessly and am tearing my hair out (what's left of it anyway!).
I've read all the threads on the forum and tried several of them but with no joy.
The pinter is connected to my network. and all is showing as ok.  I can print the network test results page from the printer and all is ok. I can access the printer EWS and print a test page and all is ok. This is the only printer I have connected and it's set up as the defailt printer. I have run the HP Print & Scan doctor and it prints the internal test page but not the 'normal' one and basically tells me to uninstall and reload the software.
I've done this twice now, once from the CD and the second time from the HP website to make sure I have the lastest version. I've rebooted the router, printer and laptop (Acer running Vista Home Basic) and still nothing works. I've done the 'power reset' suggested by someone by pulling out the cable whilst the printer is on and that didn't work either.
I can scan from the printer to my laptop wirelessly so I know it's all connected and seeing each other.....just can't get the **bleep** thing to print and need to print out an urgent document for tomorrow!
Can't call the HP Printer tech support team in the UK as they only work Mon-Fri (typical large corporate that thinks the world sleeps outside of these hours!) so am stuffed.
    Anyone any other suggestions?
    Kind regards
    Brian

Forgot to add that I can ePrint via the web services. Ended up having to send the document as an email to the printer and it printed fine!!

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't print cardstock

Ok I read through all of the tried and true solutions on the board and the kicker for me was turning off the Tray 2.  Once I did that - it printed the cardstock.  When you think about it - it just doesn't make sense and stupid.  I was almost ready to take this printer back.  I spent some good money on this printer and I am upset that I have to change the settings to use it.  REALLY HP?  Fix the driver and send out the disk or download to all who have a registered printer.  This is ridiculous and if someone is going to pay this amount of money for a printer, don't you think your customers deserve better?  And yes we do deserve better.  I'll keep this one for now but in the future I will probably go another manufacturer.

This would be a firmware issue, and since this is an issue that I have seen before and has been present on the forums there is a good chance that it will be addressed in a firmware update or in a printer update If and when that happens I will be sure that the information gets posted as soon as possible.

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8600 Premium suddenly printed very slowly from PC

Hi, and thanks for any insights.
I have a client with an Officejet Pro 8600 Premium, and printing to this printer over USB has suddenly become very slow.  The dedicated PC is XP with 2 GB of ram and only using 40 GB on a 200 GB drive.  The printer has two trays, with tray1 dedicated to checks, and tray 2 for anything directed to plain paper.  The printer is not connected to a network, but dedicatd to this PC.  The PC is current with updates.
Checks print at the normal speed, and copying prints at reasonable speed, but whejn printed from the PC anything directed to tray 2 prints at a snail's pace .  This is new behavior.
I have printed status pages and performed print head and allignment processes.  Still, this behavior persists.
I looked i the event log and saw nothing that suggested an evident system issue.  Windows update only shows Security Essentials updates for the duration during which the slowness started.
The PC is not acting strangly in any other way.
    Any suggestion would be helpful.

    Hi,
The information is very general, this applies for many HP printers:
Solution 1: Use a lower print quality setting
Solution: Check the print quality setting. Best and Maximum dpi provide the best quality but are slower than Normal or Draft. Draft provides the fastest print speed.
Cause: The print quality was set to a high setting. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution.
Solution 2: Check the ink levels
Solution: Check the estimated ink levels in the ink cartridges. NOTE: Ink level alerts and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When you receive a low on ink message, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace the ink cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.
CAUTION: Wait until you have a new ink cartridge available before removing the old ink cartridge. Do not leave the ink cartridge outside of the printer for an extended period of time. This can result in damage to both the printer and the ink cartridge.
For more information, see: Check the estimated ink levels
Cause: The ink cartridges might have insufficient ink. Printing with depleted cartridges slows the printer. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution.
    Solution 3: Contact HP support
Solution: Contact HP support for service. Go to: www.hp.com/go/customercare. This website provides information and utilities that can help you correct many common printer problems.
If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information on calling for technical support.
Cause: There was a problem with the printer.
    Regards.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was
unable to save the file to the specified location'.  It will save a regular PDF file
or a  JPG file with no problem, but trying to save an searchable PDF or .rtf file
results in the above mentioned system error.
This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.
The computer is running Windows XP and the I.R.I.S. OCR software is
    loaded.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!
