HP Officejet Pro 8610 fax error message

Good morning.  I have two Officejet Pro 8610s.  One is in my office running MS Office 7, the other is at home running Mac.
To conserve power I have both printers set to turn off in the evenings.  Neither is being used as a fax machine and neither has ever had the phone cord plugged in.
On both printers I am consistently getting the error message "Telephone cord is connected. To receive faxes, the printer must be turned on.  Note that the printer is scheduled to be turned off at XX:XX every (days listed).  To change the schedule, use the Schedule On and Off feature in the Setup menu."
Almost everytime I go to make copies or initiate a scan from the printer I have to click "OK" for this error.  The error also pops up about every 30 minutes and makes a ding.   This wouldn't be annoying at all except the printer is positioned next to my left ear and I"ve been listening to it for six months.
How do I stop these messages, aside from removing the scheduled turn off and on?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Hello @drummer12345 ,
Welcome to the HP forum.
I understand that you are getting a fax error message form your two 8610's. I would like to help you with this issue.
I find it odd that you get this message. You mentioned that you have never set the unit up for fax.
Please take a moment and make sure that no cords are plugged into the Fax ports on the printer.
If there are none, go into the setup menu.
Once in the setup menu, select the fax setup option.
Go into the advanced fax setup option.
scroll to the bottom of the list and select restore defaults.
If that does not work try a hard reset.
With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord.
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the printer.
If this was happening to just one printer, I would believe this to be a firmware issue.
For this to happen to both your printers, I  get a feeling it could be something related to the printers environment.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Printhead error message

Error message says printhead not attached or missing? I have already done what the book says - turn machine off and back on - take printhead out and put back in - I have done both these things many times and still get the error message. I did not change anything before this happened (ink etc) I used it for copying yesterday morning then went to use it to scan and the error message came up. Please help!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 - Error Code: " 0xc19a0013" (missing or failed printhead)

I purchased the printer (HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-one printer) in January, 2015.  The printer functioned properly - copy, fax, and scan, until two days ago.  Now, it does not print at all.  Received an error code: "0xc19a0013" (Missing or Failed Printhead).  An expanded version of the error code reads:  "The Printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed.  Error Code: 0xc19a0013.   The printer uses a removable printhead, HP Ink Cartridges 950 (black) and  951(cmy).  I have used HP Support Troubleshooting recommendations: all software and firmware for this printer is installed; the HP ink cartridges are not low or empty; removed the ink cartridges from the printhead and reinstalled them.
There are multible steps in the troubleshooting recommendation, but I stopped at removing the printhead.  Because of my technical inexperience, and there were too many ceveats (beware, caution, proper reinstallation, and etc.)  with removing the printhead that could cause greater problems.  So, I stopped at removing and cleaning the printhead.  Also, used the HP Printer Scan Doctor for assistance. The tool for cleaning the printhead doesn't work.   What troubles me most with the 0xc19a0013 error code is its explanation: The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed.  I can use all the help I can get to understand what is going on with the error code that I have received, and how to resolve the malfunctioning printer.

  • Officejet Pro 8610 - Answer a call by phone then receive a fax REMOTELY

    Hello everyone
We just bought and installed an Officejet Pro 8610 as a fax machine on our home/office phone line.
The phone line also receives regular calls and a phone is connected to the line BUT 2 FLOORS ABOVE.
Is there a way to receive a fax after answering the call from the phone ?
If the phone was close the Officejet we could start the fax using the touch panel, but this is not the case.
We had a standard fax machine (Sharp UX-238) that can be started remotely right from the phone that answers the call simply digiting "5**" .
    (see also http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForBusiness/DocumentSystems/MFPsPrinters/Manuals/MX6240N_7040N/c...
We wondering if similar behavior or so is available on the Officejet Pro 8610.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
If yo pick up your phone and hear a fax sounds, dial "123" from your phone and that should cause the fax to answer the call.
If you do not see such response, ensure that Error Correction Mode is enabled within the printer setup and check again:
On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup , and then touch the Setup icon ( ).
Touch Fax Setup , and then touch Advanced Fax Setup .
    Touch Error Correction Mode .
    Touch On.
Touch the Home icon ( ) to return to the main screen.

  • Officejet Pro 8610: Will not Auto Answer

Evening all.  We just purchased two HP Officejet Pro 8610's and have set them up at the office, however, we have noticed that even though we have the Auto Answer feature enabled, neither machine is automatically answering.  Instead they are still requiring a manual "yes, go ahead and answer that" button press which does not work for us as we often do not have people around those machines.
In running a Fax Test Report I got the following print-out...

Our header and number have also been set.  At this time I am assuming I missed something in the User's Manual, since this is happening with both machines.  Might someone know of what I missed?
    This question was solved.

    Hi RandyT9,
I believe it is related to distintive ring setting. Have you tried to set the Distinctive Ring feature to All Rings and see if the printer can answer it automatically?
If you using distintive ring  service, please refer to User manual on the distinctive ring setting.
If you are not using a distinctive ring service, check to make sure that the Distinctive Ring
feature on the printer is set to All Rings.
    Hope this may helps.

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8610 SCANNER IS BUSY

I recently set up a new system for a friend.  He is using the officejet pro 8610 with a new mac using osx 10.9.
The printer is set up wirelessly.  Printing works but the scanner keeps giving an error that it is busy.
From the printer I can attempt to scan to his computer and it appears as though it is contacting the computer and preparing to scan but it errors out.  Usually with a message regarding the scanner being busy.
I can attempt to scan from the computer as well but that doesn't work either.
I have pulled the power from the printer and rebooted.  I have done the disk repair and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software from the website.
I also attempted to install the new firmware but for some reason got an error that I had cancelled the process when in fact I did not.
    Anyone??

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 Cartridge problem

I just buy new cartridges for HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. Model of cartridges is 950XL and 951XL C,M,Y. It's all brend new and original cartridges. The  problem is that when i install cartridges in printer the massage appear: " Older generation cartridge installed ". I spend a lot off money to buy this cartridges and it's very disappointing that i dont have my printer for work. Please HP, find a way to fix this issue that you made and sand me a working solution.

    Hi,
What Warranty end date is listed on the cartridge? is it still listed as warranties or not?
Also have a look on the error message on the printer, which cartridge it refers to? it should list a colored mark with the specific cartridge identification (C/Y/M/K)
If the Warranry end date has passed, that means the cartridge will not be accepted by the printer and should be replaced to a current one... if that is the case I would suggest conacting the retailer and replace the ink cartridge.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 Catridge Problem

Bought a new HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer. Setup Catridge shows continously "Catridge Problem" and later printed a test page  and 2 other sheets while we were asleep. I decided, as a result of this accidental and unexpected printout, to buy a new catridhge set. New complete catridges were sent to me from the manufacturer itself, HP. I have correctly installed the catridges, and have repeated same step as instructed several times over. But annoyingly, this "Catridge Problem" will not go away. What should I do next. I had previously returned it to Currys and they said because I needed new set of ink hence the problem. Should I return it again or is their solution other than the one in their instruction book which is repeatedly failing....

    Hi @Rose-Joe
I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with your Officejet 8610. The following document address cartridge errors, although the specific error you are seeing may not be mentioned, the document will guide you through the necessary steps to troubleshoot the issue; A 'Cartridge Missing' or 'Incompatible Ink Cartridges' Error Message.
If the issue persists, I recommend calling HP and letting the know the issue as well as the steps you have already completed. It may be helpful to even let them know you completed all of the steps in HP document #c04090902.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
HP will, at HP's option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date on your cartridges, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.
    I hope this helps.

-problem printing scanned pdf document and word doc. photos
-My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 printed a newly scanned pdf document as an all black picture. I then printed a saved word documtent from my iMac which included a small picture. The document print was acceptable, but the picture was solid black. There were no error messages. These were, my initial tests, to check this new printer.

    Hey there @TM-10
    Welcome to the Community
I read through your post about your new Officejet 8610 scanning a document to your computer and printing out all black. I have a couple ideas for you to try.
Try the steps in this guide: Unexpected Scan Output Using HP Scan Application for HP Multifunction Printers When Using OS X v10.9...
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help.

  • Can I use Replacement Printer ink cartridges for HP officejet Pro 8610

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I previously had an 8600. They both use the same ink cartridges. I had just installed some remanufactured 950 XL and 951 XL cartridges in the old printer and tried to use them in the new printer. Of course I got an error message that cartridges weren't HP but the printer would still work. I would like to know if I can use other remanufactured ink cartridges with the new printer or if there is some way for the printer to allow me to use other ink cartridges as the HP cartridges are way over priced for the consumers. I hope there is a person out there that is conservative like me and tries to find the best bargains on everything. Your solutions would be appreciated. I waited on HP Support Assistant for 10 minutes with a dialogue I would be connected to a technician in less than a minute. They must have been on break or some other excuse, so I thought I would try this instead. Blessings. John Richardson

    Hey @rockhoundjohn
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.  - Source
Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ; Should you refill your printer’s ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray
I found the above article interesting and genuine.
My personal recommendation is to buy the HP XL cartridges as they are more cost efficient, and be mindful in the printer you choose when buying an inkjet. The 8610 was a good choice. The expected page yield of the HP 950XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge is 2300 pages. The regular size cartridge page yield is 1000, still good but the XL is by far a better value. Some of the Photosmart printers or Deskjets are great for what they are intended for, but do not have as good of a cost per page.
HP's recommendation; Keep in mind that page yield is just one component of cost, and that factors such as quality, reliability, productivity, and efficiency affect cost as well. Products that work reliably will ultimately save you time and money. When you choose an inkjet printer, make sure you consider your individual printing needs.
    - Source
To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty; Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product.

  • Times New Roman font will not print on HP Officejet Pro 8610

My new HP Officejet Pro 8610 will not print documents, spreadsheets, or printer test pages containing Times New Roman font (of any size).  It does not put a job in the print queue.  In Excel, I receive the "Generic_2_Q294552"  error message. My setup:  An HP Pavilion Elite computer NY809AV-ABA e9119t; running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1; HP Laserjet 5L, HP PCS 1310, and HP D4360 all print the font just fine. My new printer:  HP Officejet Pro 8610, firmware revision FDP1CN1502AR, connected via USB cable.  [Also connected via ethernet cable to cable modem.] What I have done so far to troubleshoot the last 3 days:  Reinstalled the printer (3 times), the most recent today with an installer issued today; rebooted the printer; rebooted the computer after each significant change; updated the firmware in the printer; tried two different USB cables; tried printing the fonts in Microsoft Word 7, Microsoft Excel 7, and directly from the font file; reinstalled the Times New Roman fonts from backup; visited the forums and tried all of the solutions I could for any similar problem; tried the winprint, hpzppw71, and hpzpplhn print processors with both RAW and NT EMF 1.008 data types; found and repaired all problems I could find with any hardware and software, as well as updating all software to the latest version.

Thanks for trying to help.  I am happy to report my experiments and results. Microsoft Word:I open a blank document.  Type something in.  Select the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to some fonts (those listed on my DOES print) the document shows up in the print queue and prints.  When I change to the other fonts (those listed as DOES NOT print) nothing happens.  It just sits there.  No messages.  No crash.  Nothing in the print queue.  I can walk away for hours (as I have done) and come back and nothing has happened.  When I change back to a DOES print font it prints.  Change it back to a DOES NOT print font and it doesn't.  Repeatable.  Consistent.  No configuration changes or installs have changed it. Microsoft Excel:I open a black spreadsheet.  Type something in.  Highlight the entire text.  Change the font.  When I change to a DOES print font it prints.  When I change to a DOES NOT print font I get this: "Microsoft Office Excel    Your file could not be printed due to an error on HP Officejet Pro 861   on 0.  There are several possible reasons:. Local problems: There are several reasons for a local printer (a printer that is attached directly to your computer) to fail:
Check to make sure the printer has paper, ink, and/or toner and check the cables.
If the printer appears to be functional and a printer test by the printer itself indicates the printer is working properly, then check the cables, printer port from the computer, and configuration of the printer at the computer.
Occasionally, an application can develop a conflict with the printer driver and cause a memory leak which corrupts the printer port. If all else fails, restart the computer, recycle the power to the printer, and try printing again.
Occasionally it is even necessary to delete the printer driver and reinstall the latest version of the printer driver.
Network problems: There are various reasons for a network printer to be inaccessible: the name may have changed, it may be out of paper, out of ink, out of toner, down for maintenance, the network could be down, or a printer job previous to yours has stalled due to incorrect settings on the user's computer who last submitted a print job, or even your printer driver cannot communicate correctly with the printer. Network related printer failures are usually best handled by your local technical support.
Memory problemsn occasion, large print jobs with complex graphics or consisting of several hundred pages, which can consume large quantities of memory on the printer, may cause a problem (especially if there was an over run of memory at the printer). You may want to try reducing the amount of complex graphics in your print job, or break the print job up into smaller segments and see if that corrects your problem. It is not uncommon for a very complex graphic to have a defect or error which prevents it from printing on any printer. It may be necessary to load new or revised graphic converters or drivers in order to alleviate a problem of this type.

(Click the Start button, and then click Help and Support.)" Excel keeps right on going.  Doesn't crash.  Just pops up the gray dialog box.  Behind the box popped up is another box (that goes away then the dialog box is closed) saying:  "Now printing page 1 of 1'Book1' on theHP Officejet Pro 861     on 0" The format of these messages does seem strange now that I look at it so carefully while trying to type EXACTLY what I see.   I think I will try to shorten the name of the printer. Once again, Respectfully submitted for analysis, review, suggestions, and criticism. Tom
