HP Officejet Pro 8630 won't print from tray 2; says there's no paper

Action: Print from tray 2.
Expected Results: Paper feeds from tray 2 and prints.
Actual Results: Printer displays "out of paper" dialog.
Notes: Ever since I purchased the Officejet Pro 8630 six or eight months ago, tray 2 has not functioned. It says there's no paper in that tray. I've tried multiple types of letter sized paper. I've inspected the bottom of the main printer unit and the top of tray 2 for signs of damage; there doesn't seem to be any.
Tray 1 works just fine. It's actually a fantastic printer. The best I've owned. If only Tray 2 would work.

  • Officejet Pro 8620 won't print from microsoft or thunderbird

I have installed the printer drivers for my new OfficeJet Pro 8620 and am not able to print from Microsoft Word or Thunderbird.  I can print from Google Chrome.
I am running Windows 7 and have already reinstalled the printer software several times.

    Hello @dmcairns,
I understand that you're having printing issues with MS Word and Thunderbird on your Windows 7 computer when printing to your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now you mentioned that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail. I do believe that because you can print from certain programs on your computer that you are experiencing a driver conflict with those two programs. To resolve this issue, can I please have you run through the steps below.
I am going to have you load an alternate driver on your printer. This will not cause you to lose any functionality at all. You will not notice any difference in the performance of your printer or the capabilities. The only thing that should change, is the fact that your printer will be able to print from every program!
    Step 1: Clear Temp files:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start when you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select 'delete' on your keyboard. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files as they are just temporary internet files. Should a file still be used by a program on your computer than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' the file.
Once the Temp folder is emptied, close the folder
Right click on your Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    Step 2: Download Alternate Driver:
Please click here to download the alternate Officejet driver package
Once the website opens, select the Download button
    Allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete, an extraction will automatically occur and then the installation will pop open. Close any installation window that opens.
    Step 3: Add Alternate Driver:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens you will see a folder that starts with 7z.... Click on that folder to open it
Scroll through this folder and ensure that it has files that start with OJ860 files in it. You do not want to see OJ862 files. Once you verify that you're in the right folder with the OJ860 files in it, look at the top of this folder and you will see the file path. It should show something like 'local disk C - Users - Username - AppData - Local - Temp - 7z. . . .  Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar and everything will highlight. Right click on the highlighted file path and Copy it.
    Close the Temp folder
    Click on your Start menu
    Select Devices and Printers
Right click on your HP Officejet 8620 and left click on Printer Properties
    Select the Advanced tab
Select 'New Driver' and hit 'next' until you see a list of Manufacturers on the left and a list of Printers on the right.
Select Have Disk on the bottom right. An 'Install from disk' window will pop open. Right click on the file path bar and Paste in the file path we previously copied.
    Select OK
Select the HP Officejet 8600 and hit next
When you're brought back to the Printer Properties window, select Apply but don't hit OK
Click the General tab and rename your printer back to Officejet 8620
    Select OK
Please try to print from a few different programs to verify that everything is printing properly now.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I wish you luck!

  • How do I get my HP Officejet Pro 8500 won't print from a program called "The Print Shop 12"?

I can not get my printer to print from this one program I have called "The Print Shop 12." I don't get an error message, it acts like it want to print but then nothing.

I do not know about the Print Shop program but I know that sometimes quickbooks has this issue. We have two different work around for this, 1st one  Click your start button go to your printer & devices folder and right click the 8500 printer and either RENAME it or go to Properties to Rename is to OJ8500 and then Apply and safe that change and try it.
2nd step if that does not work, click start, go back to the printers and faxes and "add a printer" when you get to the list of manufactures click HP or Hewlett-Packard and look for the deskjet ICC printer and add it, naming it PrintShop and then you should be able to printer threw that program.

  • HP Officejet pro 8500 won't print and keeps asking for a proxy setting. Help.

HP Officejet pro 8500 won't print and keeps asking for a proxy setting. Help.

    Hi,
Can you confirm that you have an Officejet 8500a or Officejet 8500? On the 8500a model, you can set the networks proxy address and port setting from the front panel of the printer (setup>Webservices setup>proxy). If you are unsure what your proxy settings are you'll need to contact your network admin. If your network uses a proxy users name and password for all devices, you need to enter this information along with the proxy address and port in the printers embedded web server. Type the products IP address into an internet brownser window (printer must be connected to the same network as PC). Select the network tab, and than look for the proxy settings option. Enter in the information and click apply. Once the networks proxy information has been correctly inputed into the embedded web server, try printing again. If unsuccessfully, you might try reinstalling the printer software after uninstalling it. Hope this helps!

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8600 can't print from my MacBook Air

    Hi,
My HP Officejet Pro 8600 can't print from my MacBook Air. It keeps on showing "The printer is not connected", but the screen on the printer shows connected. I often reset the printer 'EVERY TIME" I want to use it. I also tried to turn off my laptop and printer several times before printing. If I'm lucky enough, it will work maybe for one or two prints. If no luck then I'll have to reset everything again. Sometimes I reset the printer, the printer will not show on my selection.

    Hello boojoo1tw,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to print most times with your Officejet 8600. How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB? What is your operating system on your Mac computer? Click here to find out.
If your printer is wireless, then I would recommend assigning a "Static IP Address" by following this HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • How do i get the hp officejet pro 8600 premium to print from my ipad2 using airprint?

how do i get the hp officejet pro 8600 premium to print from my ipad2 using airprint? The iPad does not see the printer.

    Hi RiverBirch,
What brand and model is your router?
First, connect your printer to your router.
    1. From printer front panel, press Wireless>Wireless Settings>Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the onscreen instructions to successfully connect your printer with an IP address.
Secondly, connect your iPad to the same router.
    1. Connect your iPad to the Internet and download the free HP ePrint Home & Biz app from the apps store.
    2. Connect your iPad to the same network as the printer. Settings>Network.
    3. Use the new HP Home & Biz app to print and scan photos or docs from your iPad!
Alternatively, you can also perform Airprint on the iPad thru the wireless network from the Photos menu in your iPad.

  • Officejet Pro 8625 won't print.

Recently purchase Officejet Pro 8625.  It won't print from my XP computer, USB interface.  I have connected a Vista laptop to it and it prints.
When I send a test page to it, the print dialog box shows the print job status as "spooling", then the job disappears, but it didn't print.
I tried downloading the 8625 basic driver from HP's site.  As I walk through the setup, when it asks me to plug in the USB cable, I can't go any further.  I don't think that the computer can see the printer.  I have another printer, and using the same USB port and cable, I can print without problems.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Type spool into the run dialog and click on OK.
    Open the Drivers folder.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500a won't print or copy without turning off then on again

HP Officejet pro 8500A, Will not print, copy or print received fax. HP icon on the Printer screen just spins, but never prints.  The print jobs show in the Que, but never print out. If I shut off the printer and turn it back on it will print, but after a short while it stops again. It has also asked for ink to be replaced.

    Hello pcmtgrl
Which model of the Officejet 8500A series do you have? Typically you can find it inside the printer where you change the ink cartridges. Example: A910g, A910a, etc.
Has anything changed recently since the problem started? Is the printer plugged into a wall outlet or a surge protector? Do you have the latest firmware installed? I also suggest running the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility. Let me know if it finds anything out.

  • OfficeJet 8600 Premium - Faxes Only Printing from Tray 2

I'm running into an issue with an OfficeJet 8600 Premium on OS X (Lion), but this shouldn't be OS specific.
It appears that incoming faxes are requiring tray 2, even though the default tray is set to 1 and the media lock is off. The printer reports that it's out of paper, even though Tray 1 is full.
I've removed the lower tray assy, checked the paper size settings within the trays, set the default to 2 and back to 1, set the media lock on 2 with the default on 1, rebooted the printer and computer, but nothing seems to make a change in how incoming faxes are printed.
I am successfully able to print from tray 1 with normal print jobs. For some reason, the fax portion of the printer just defaults to tray 2, and I can't find where I can reset that to tray 1...or to follow the defaults of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

so you are telling me the default is tray2 only and the software does not allow you to choose like ALL prior hp!!!!  This is the dumbest software i have ever seen...i have stuggled with this for over a year to only hear that hp decided what i should do!!!!  all my programs select tray 1 for regular paper and tray 2 for medical claims!  yes it is used for two different types of paper....i do not want to change hundreds of documents because hp decided where i should default print and fax from!  is there a fix to allow me the user to select where i would like things printed from....thanks....how stupid are you hp!!!!  why would you take away choices so basic as to where a fax is printed from.....

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 won't print individual pages of a file

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7780 setup with wireless printing on my network and am using Windows 7 on a 64-bit computer with MSWord 2007. I'm trying to duplex print just specific corrected pages (like pages 7-8) from a file (of pages 1-22) and my printer just won't do it. When I select to print specific pages, the printer just sits there and then the print queue is apparently dumped, as the tray icon just disappears.  The printer will print only all pages of a file or nothing at all. What could be the reason for this and how do I correct it? Thanks, Patricia

  • Officejet Pro 251dw won't print with applications inside Parallels 9

I've used HP printers with my Mac computers for years and had no problems, even when I was working with Windows XP and Windows-based applications inside Parallels Desktop on the Mac. All I would have to do to have the Windows-based software capture the printer (connected with a USB cord) was to click on a drop-down menu item under "USB." Recently I upgraded our OS to Mavericks and had to upgrade Parallels from Version 6 to Version 9. A week ago we had to replace our old HP Deskjet 6500 printer, and we chose the Officejet Pro 251dw. We connected the new printer wirelessly to our home network, and we were able to print from both our desktop iMac and our MacBook Pro with no difficulties. But when I needed to print something from PrintMaster 12, a Windows-based desktop publishing program running on Windows XP inside Parallels Desktop 9, the job wouldn't print, and I got a message that the printer wasn't connected. After doing my own troubleshooting, I spent several hours on the phone with Parallels tech support, including having them connect to my computer over LogMeIn and change all sorts of settings, but the best I could get was that the printer queue report said that the job was printing, but the touch screen on the printer flashed rapidly back and forth from "printing" to the date and time, with a large red X next to the date-time read-out, and still no job printed. After having two or three first-level techs and then a second-level engineer working on the setup, the Parallels people finally gave up and said that the problem must be in the settings inside the printer and that we'd have to have someone who works with printers.adjust them. Has anyone out there had this sort of problem working with Parallels Desktop 9 and the Mavericks OS? It wasn't just the desktop publishing software; the same thing happened when the engineer went into the Windows XP printer settings and tried to print a test page.

    Rocky8,
This is a little outside our area of printing, but I'll try and help you the best I can. My question for you is the printer showing up under the USB menu in Parallels. If it's not showing up then you need to determine why the USB connection isn't showing up in your Parallels USB menu.  This could be a couple of issues, but the one that I think might be happening is the version of the USB port your using.  Can you verify that you're not connecting the printer via a USB 3.0 port.  Try plugging into one of your other USB ports to see if the printer will show up in the parallels USB menu.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 won't print if one cartridge is empty?

    Hi,
I have an OfficeJet Pro 8500 printer. I  woudn't really need color printing. My yellow catridge run out of ink, and the printer woudn't allow me to print at all since I don't purchase a new cartridge. If it's true, quite sad from a company that is "committed to providing quality products in an environmentally sound manner".
    Thanks for your help.

The Officejet Pro 8500 pigmented ink (like paint) and a separate printhead and ink supplies with plumbing to connect them.  Some color ink is required to keep the printheads from clogging.
HP wants your printer to be able to print after you replace the supplies.  There are some workarounds to force the printer to allow printing even with empty color cartridges, but doing this will likely ruin the printhead and preclude later color printing without replacing the printhead.  In the 8500 one printhead is used for Black and Yellow, the other is Cyan and Magenta.  The printheads are $65 each, personally I would not suggest overriding the protection as described in this post.
