HP Officejet Pro K850

Had a problem with the cyan print head.  Cleaned up the print head and now the cyan is printing.  However, the diagnostic page keeps printing after each document.  Is there a way to stop the diagnostic print for automatically printing?  The HP support people so far have not been any help....they suggested that I purchase a new printer.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • IP Printing: HP OfficeJet Pro K850 not in driver list

    Hi
After hours of work, I reckon I cannot solve the following problem on a iMac running Tiger 10.4.11 by myself. I installed a HP OfficeJet Pro K850 on my Mac directly trough USB, and everything worked fine. Then I decided to upgrade the whole system by connecting the printer trough a D-Link DP-G321 Print Server, in order to share the printer for the entire network. Despite everything works fine with Windows PCs, I can't get it to work with the Mac. By adding the K850 to the printer list, after typing the IP Address of the print server and the queue name, I have to choose the printer manufacturer and the model. Sadly, there is no entry in the HP list saying OfficeJet Pro K850, nor any similar printer models. I then simply tried to add the printer as a Generic PostScript Printer and print a document. I am sure there is a connection between my Mac and the printer, for the printer began to print strange texts until I pressed the cancel button on the printer. So it seems to be a driver problem, in fact the printer does not appear in the driver list, although the driver is (or should be) installed on my Mac (from the HP OfficeJet Pro K850 driver CD). How can I get the driver in that list? Appearantly, there is no "standalone" driver provided by HP, since the driver should be integrated in Mac OS X Tiger (at least that's what HP told me).
Any help would be very appreciated!

You can find this issue addressed here many times - but I guess you would need to know some background first...
There are two kinds of drivers on OS X - Carbon and CUPS. Not like on Windows, where a driver is a driver. Manufacturers of non-postscript printers mostly provide Carbon drivers, where they can specify which comm protocol it uses. Your HP driver is written for USB only. You need a CUPS driver to use the network protocols, which are all part of CUPS.
    Install the 3-part hpijs driver:

  • Drivers and for shared HP Officejet pro K850

I'm trying to set up a connection to a HP Officejet pro K850 printer, with the appropriate drivers. The printer is shared from a PC across a wireless network that needs a username and password.
I've connected to the printer OK and can do a basic print but I wanted to install the correct drivers on the Mac. I couldn't find them listed in the Printer utility and tried to do an install of the latest 10.4 driver from HP but that didn't seem to work. The installation says its successful, then a window pops up saying where is the printer? I select wireless network and nothing happens.
    My questions are:
Where did the driver install and where can I look for it in the system to confirm its there?
Do I need to complete the last step in the HP wizard or should it just work if I was successful with a direct connection previously?
I'm expecting to see HP Officjet K850 when I go to select a driver to the printer in the Utility or other OS X printer dialogs.
    Thanks

HP has provided a Carbon driver, where they have specified/restricted what comm protocol(s) it uses. Yours is USB-only. To use the comm protocols provided in OS X by the CUPS system, you need a CUPS driver. You'll need to install a third-party driver from:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
It'll be either Gutenprint or hpijs + ESP ghostscript.
Drivers (PPDs plus plug-ins) go in HD/Library/Printers.

  • Networked Officejet Pro K850 not working with WIndows 7

At work, I have a networked Officejet Pro K850 and I can not get it to work with WIndows 7 Pro 32-bit OS. I have read several forums on this problem and tried some of the suggestions and nothing works. My print server is running WIndows 2000 Server. Not sure what else to do so I am writing this post hoping someone has a solution to this problem. After I installed the printer is has a green checkmark by the printer icon, but when i do a test print page I get the 'document failed to print' error. I have also tried the Windows update and used one of the printers on the listing to no avail.
I downloaded the Universal PCL 6 driver and installed it on the WIndows 7 PC. I ran the utility and it recognized and successfully installed an HP Lasertjet 4350Dtn, I say successfully because I was able to print a test page. HELP! Thanks in advance

  • Officejet Pro K850 Will Not Stop Printing An Alignment Page

    Hi Everyone,
I hadn't used my K850 printer for about 6 months so when I needed to print something with it I ran the the print head cleaning option first.  I needed to run it up through all three levels in order to get them clean.  After that just for good measure I ran the head alignment utility.  The problem occured during the alignment.  For some reason it won't complete the alignment process.
No matter what I tried the printer keeps printing the alignment pattern continuously using only the black and yellow inks. Even if I shut it down, Remove the cord and restart it, after it goes through the start up sequence it starts right in printing the same page with the same two inks.
I managed to interrupt it long enough to install the latest firmware but still the problem remains.  In addition this happens wether or not it is connected to my computer so I am assuming the problem is in the printer not the driver.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
    Thanks

  • TS3147 HP Officejet Pro K850 print failure

I bought this printer as it offers a good range of control over print output, since upgrading to Mountain Lion, trying to access these controls from within the print dialogue box instantly crashes whichever program I'm in (MS, Adobe etc).
I have downloaded the recent HP printer driver update from Apple but this has made no difference.
I guess I'm wondering whether this means the K850 is no longer fully supported or whether anyone has a workaround.
    Cheers.

  • HP Officejet Pro K850 Up to what paper thickness can be used eg gsm

I purchased the K850 for my scrapbooking hobby to take 30cm x 30cm (12in x 12in) sheets. I was told that it would take the cardstock i would be using. However when I printed it would not print on the cardstock. The card was picked up and went straight through without printing. Can anyone tell me what gsm paper it will take. The cardstock I was using I read on the net is between 200 and 216gsm.
    Thanks A

    Thanks for your comments.
I tried a new Ethernet cable hard wired between the printer and the router. Since the computer is wired via an Ethernet cable to the router and the router is wired directly to the printer, one would think the computer would see the printer but it won't.
I also tried a brand new 10 foot USB cable between the computer and the printer, it failed and it wouldn't install the software either.
I am adding a 2nd hard drive next week and going dual boot, that should work on the new drive at least.
An associate, who is the best networking guy in town,  just left my house after trying for 2 hours to find a cure or the problem, he finally gave up. Like me, he thinks it may be something in the registry.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 drivers won't install

I moved and when hooking my HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 Printer up it would not work and indicated I needed to install a full driver.  I have had nothing but trouble with this printer since purchasing it!!  I had previously hard wired it to make it usable (barely).  Thinking I would only need to plug the Cat 5 cables in and be up and running, I was irritated to find it wouldn't work. I downloaded the driver but when I it came to installing it I received an error message stating the driver could not be installed.  I downloaded a K850 series driver and got it to print but it wouldn't scan.  Unfortunately, I uninstalled the K850 driver and now I get the same error message when attempting to reinstall it.  I have followed all of the HP solution steps disabling all startup & security stuff, etc. to no avail.  It will not install the drivers.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't connect to my wireless router

This is bizarre.  I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 for about 6 months.  It has generally worked fine, and we have used it wirelessly only.  But now it refuses to connect to the router.  It can FIND the router, and it can find other networks in the area, but it won't connect to the router.  I ran the Wireless Network Test, and the results say:
Wireless On - Pass // Wireless Working - Pass //
Network Name (SSID) found - Pass //  Wireless Networks Detected - 9
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings - Pass / No Filtering - FAIL //
So it recommends solution as follows: "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled, and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."
Except, guess what, I don't have MAC Address filtering enabled.  I wouldn't know how to do that, much less check for it.
Also, before today, this was never a problem.  HELP!
    Thanks....
If you are interested, here's more detail and background.
Before today, the only problem we have had is that frequently our Apple laptop (OS X 10.6) has trouble connecting to the printer.  This has been odd because the printer is connected to the network, and so is the laptop, but the laptop can't find the printer - it thinks the printer is "offline" (even though it's not).  Usually, if I wait a while, it will find the printer, and it will resolve itself work fine.  If not, we sometimes have found that it can fix itself if you restart the laptop -- restarting the printer does not make a difference.   In fact, I did exactly that today, and it resolved itself.  And I printed.  Fine, right?
But then I wanted to do more printing, and the problem of the laptop not finding the printer came up again, so I decided to really "get to the bottom of this."  I don't remember exactly what I did, but somehow I was persuaded by the online help, that the correct solution would be to go into my System Preferences / Print and Fax, and click on the "-", which de-installs the printer, with the idea of re-installing the printer.  But then when I tried to re-install the printer, it could not find the printer.  Ugh!  Wierdly, it found an 8600 Scanner, but not an 8600 printers.  After installing and de-installing the 8600 scanner a few times, I eventually deinstalled everything, and I decided to start from scratch.  I got my HP disk, and installed all the software again from the beginning (even though it was already there), and then it looked for my printer, but couldn't find it.  So then I got a USB cord, and plugged that in.
So, now I have a situation where I do have a working printer via the USB cord, but no wireless connection at all.  In particular, since the Office Jet Pro 8600 won't connect to the router, I don't know what else to do.  My Apple MacBook pro is 2 feet away from the printer, and it is connected to the router just fine (as is my blackberry), and I have never before had a problem connecting to the wireless router by the printer.
    Any suggestions?

There are two things that can trip the mac filtering test to fail:  actual MAC address filtering setup (sounds like this is not the case) and using wireless channel 6 or automatic for wireless channel in the wireless network settings (in the router).  Since it does show failed for MAC filtering and you do not use this option, try changing the wireless channel in the router to 1 or 11.  Those two channels provide the best compatibility with printers due to less interference.  Almost everything defaults to auto or 6 for the channel and this causes a lot of interference.  This change should not affect anything at all.  To do this, you may need to contact the router manufacturer as the process differs from router to router.
What brand and model is the router?
Has anything in the network settings changed at all?
What version is the Mac OS X?  There may be additional steps to take as it sounds like there are two separate issues involved and this could be revisited later.

  • Unable To Communicate With Printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)

I recently purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600. One morning a couple weeks ago I tried to print something and I received a prompt saying "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)". I turned off the printer and turned it back on which did not help, I then turned off my wireless network, turned it back on and still nothing. I finally figured out that I first have to turn off the printer, then turn off my wireless router wait thirty seconds, turn the router back on and the turn the printer back on. After these steps my printer was working. The next morning the same thing happened "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)" and I've been replaying Groundhog's Day ever since.
    Please help!

    Hello msheehy-
I would like to help you with this issue. It sounds like the router is changing the ip address of the printer. This could be caused by a couple reasons. (ip lease time, power loss to the router) I would recommend looking at the following link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03781399&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4323648&tmp...
I think if you would set a static ip address in the printer EWS you would better off. I hope this helps.

  • Unable to find network printer HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

    HP Officejet Pro 8600
    Windows 7 64bit
    updated router firmware
Troubleshoot all item s listed by HP and with Windows
I have been unable to print wireless from my laptop. Wireless network test results gives me a pass in all categories. Network name is the same on printer and laptop. IP address on printer and tcp  port are the same. Tried firewall on and off. AVG antivirus on and off. Unplugged printer, router, usb, restarted laptop. Nothing has solved the problem.
I can see that the printer has an ip address. My router has an ip address and my laptop has an ip address. Should they all be different? I am using the ip address from the printer to set up the wireless printing when asked to enter the address.
This has been the most frustrating process I have ever delt with. It should not be this difficult to set up. Please help.
Thank you in advance for a quick solution.

Shurlee, I want you to do is re-run the wireless setup wizard on your printer. Then uninstall it, and reinstall it again using the software I am going to link you to below. From what you describe it sounds like either an installation issue or an issue with your network. If this helps feel free to mark my post by hitting the star below my name which gives me a kudos - kinda like a job well done on here.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Download these files and install them. By the way these are for the N911a, but if you have the 8600 Plus or Premium you will need different drivers.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4323659
Install that and let me know the result!

  • Constant Printing Restart on a networked HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909N Series printer

    Hello,
I'm curious if anyone has run into this problem before.  I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n Series printer that I have setup as a network printer.  This has been accomplished through a print server.
I installed the printer's drivers based upon the cd that came with the printer, in the box.
The problem is that whenever a user prints, say it's a simply one page document... the printer will repeatedly print that single page until it runs out of paper.  I have stopped/restarted the print spooler.  I've rebooted the printer and the print server.  I have deleted the drivers and readded them.  I've tried installing drivers from HP's website and then installing those.  I have attempted to delete the printer from the server and start from scratch.
When I monitor the print queue, I can see the service restart after each document prints.  I can't figure out how to get this to stop.
Does anyone have a suggestion; or has anyone run into this problem?  I'm not sure which forum to put this in.  I chose the Networks/Wireless forum, even though this is running on a wired network with wireless disabled.
    I certainly appreciate any asistance.
    -Craig

It ended up being an issue with the port.  I had used the same port as the last HP printer that I replaced.  This printer needs to run on a TCP/IP port, and not an HP port.
    Problem solved.
Oh, and it was wired, with wireless disabled.

  • HP officejet pro 8500 fax

I am getting 2 warning messages in the event log about every 6 to 8 seconds and it is affecting the PC's performance significantly. Window XP and tried hard wired and wireless setup with same result. 1st message is with event ID 4 and says "printer ... 8500 series fax is pending deletion". 2nd message immediately following has event code 3 and says " printer ... 8500 series fax was deleted". These 2 warning appear every 6 or 8 seconds. Somewhere in the event info it refers to localspl.dll but I'm not sure it is related. I tried turning the spooler off and printing directly with no effect. If I unplug and delete the printer, the warnings go away. But as soon as I plug it back in, it is found and re-installed and the warnings re-appear. One quirk: the printer is installed and shows but there is no 8500 fax showing. Nevertheless, I pretty sure I can still fax. I have not tried to uninstall ALL the HP software and re-install it yet as this appears to be a real headache.
    Any other suggestions, please?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a won't let computer boot up

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series connected to my HP computer running Windows XP Home. It was
working perfectly. Now it won't let the computer boot while it's connected to the computer. I can unplug the

reintsalled with same results. Computer freezes at the screen where it askes you to use the up and down arrows

Message Edited by ComSource on 06-15-2009 07:14 AM

    Hi,
The problem seems to lie in the installer, which has an unusual bad behaviour.  The installer puts the 8500 a909a in the list of USB  bootable devices.  (Not good!!!)
When the printer is disconnected it isn't a problem.  When the printer is connected the computer tries to boot from the printer and the computer hangs.
When I found the printer in the BIOS list of USB bootable devices I DISABLED that item in that list. Then it booted normally.
But now the BIOS takes an extra 30 seconds or so but boot up seems to be preceeding normally.
The guys on the CHAT and PHONE lines didn't even imagine the installer might be a problem so their advice was useless. They were blaming the computer.  More importanly, they didn't have a way to escalate the problem. They  had no capacity to respond in a flexible manner. It was like dealing with unhelpful staff in the county clerk's office.

  • HP Officejet Pro X476dw MFP switches itself on

My Officejet Pro X476dw MFP just switched itself on.  It has been off for a few days; not sleeping, off.  I waited for it to do something, but it did nothing.  So I started the HP Utility to check whether the settings that govern sleeping and turning off and on had been changed.  They hadn't.  A few minutes later the printer seemed to be preparing to print something.  It displayed a message, "Preparing n ...", where n counteed down to zero, and then the paper door opened but nothing came out.
Is this expected behavior?  The printer's firmware is up-to-date.  It is running in a Mac environment, connected wirelessly to an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station with a fixed IP address.  Two MacBook Pro's running OS X 10.9.5 and an iPad 3 and an iPhone 4S running iOS 8.3 are also connected wireless to the AEBS.
    Thanks,
