HP Omen 15-5000na Wireless is absolutely unusable

Last month I purchased an Omen 15-5000na from a local reseller. The unit I got, out of the box, was registering "ghost" touches around the bottom left corner of the screen, which other customers are also reporting, and was sent for RMA the next day. The "service" took 2 weeks during which I spoke with several people - from the local reseller guys to the regional service center manager, trying to understand how is it possible HP to care so less for customers paying 1500 Euro for a top of the line laptop, and the only response I got is that this is the actual HP customer care policy  and nothing can be done. I even asked if I can pay for a premium service - I am a long-time Dell user and I am very satisfied with their "Next Day On-Site Warranty Service", but I was told there is no such thing in HP and the only "premium" I can get is to extend my warranty, which is bull**bleep** in the first place.
Anyway, after I received my replacement it looked like everything is OK with it... until I had to copy my backup data from my NAS. I realised the integrated Intel 7260 Wireless-N adapter is constantly dropping the connection and can't sustain neither the signal strenght, nor anything more than about 100 mbps connection speed. I own one of the fastest home wi-fi routers on the market - the TP-Link Archer C8, and my workstation is no more than 3 meters away from it in the same room.
I am an IT specialist and was dealing with system and network support for more than 10 years - everything is set-up and working without a hinch. Except for the brand new HP - it can't get more than 3 MB/s LAN speed and the WAN is capped to less than a 1/3rd of my actuall Internet speed, while all other clients max-out both the LAN and the WAN, including a 5 year old Nokia N8.
My Windows is up to date, all the drivers are the latest versions and everything is set-up. I removed, reinstalled, repaired, swapped different versions - both HP and Intel drivers, I read through numerous forums and tried every possible "solution" suggested, with no effect. Currently I'm using a 6 year old D-Link DWA-140 Range Booster USB adapter and I am again able to max-out my connection.
I am now facing the tough decission to just return the second unit, get my money back and never look at HP again, or wait the "standard" 30 day RMA period to get my wi-fi adapter fixed, staying for the second time in a month without a personal computer and not being able to do my job. This is absolutely unacceptable!
What do you think, HP? Is this the right way to care for your customers, buying your "premium" products?
I want a SOLUTION right now! Not getting spinned around your endless "support" bull**bleep** where you just transfer the responisibility to another person on your corporate chain without anybody actually doing anything to help resolve my problem and bring back my trust in your brand.
Otherwise, I'll go for my option A and doing so I'll make sure I let all my aquaintances know - both personal and corporate - to never buy a HP product ever again!

Hi @HackxBox ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message after the weekend from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details)
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

George

  • Wireless connections are unusable (slowdown) when Wired connection is being used?

Why do Wifi connections slow down to a unusable when the Wired connection is being used continuously (e.g. downloading software, media, large files)?
    How do I stop this?
I don't want the Wired connection to have some form of SuperGod priority over Wireless connections.
We are using the Linksys WRT54GL router
Ping/Latency times go from less than 100ms, when Wired connection is downloading, it shoots up to 550ms+ to over 1 second.
Websites just time out or take 5 minutes to load a broken form of it as if it half the HTML cut off in random places and the stylesheet is missing.
Download speed goes from 15Mb/s to .2 Mb/s
Online games are unplayable.  I die before I can get the chance to move or attack.

    Thanks.
Is that the only way it will work, device-MAC address one?
What does Ethernet Port priority do?
I enabled QoS with its default setting on which has all the Ethernet ports set to Low and it did absolutely nothing to improve usability.
Does Wired QoS have any effect on Wireless connections?
Does the field for Optimizing Game Apps affect applications on computers using a Wireless connection?
There is a Wireless QoS section... However it doesn't have any options in it to select devices, port priority, or anything...?
What does enabling WMM Support do?

  • How to tell if Time Capsule is backing up wirelessly or wired?

I use my Time Capsule to back up both my MacBook Pro and my iMac 27". I've been using my Time Capsule wirelessly -- with absolutely no ethernet cable connected to it. It's been working fine, backing up both computers. I'd like to connect an ethernet cable to my main router so that I can get faster backup from the iMac (which is always wired to the router).
My question is this: Once I wire the Time Capsule to the main router, how can I tell if the iMac is backing up wired (by ethernet cable) or wirelessly? Is there some way to tell by looking in Network Preferences or some other place?
Does it matter whether I plug the iMac into the Time Capsule or main router?
Does it matter which port I use to connect the Time Capsule to the main router?

If the iMac is always wired to the router, you would normally turn wireless off on the iMac since there is no reason to have it on. Fewer wireless connections equals fewer changes for some type of wireless interference to enter your network.
+Does it matter whether I plug the iMac into the Time Capsule or main router?+
If you connect the Time Capsule to your main router using ethernet, you need to connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the router to the WAN (circle icon) port on the Time Capsule and configure the Time Capsule as a "bridge" as follows:
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Off (I assume that your other router is creating your wireless)
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Once you have the Time Capsule configured, you can plug the iMac into any open LAN <-> port on either your router or the Time Capsule.

  • Acrobat X Browser Plugin is unusable

I have a serious problem regarding the browser plugin of Acrobat X Professional:
Each time I open a PDF-file, the new window lacks all the control items ("Save", "Print", "Pages", etc.).
There is only one small bar at the bottom of the window, which only appears when you move the mouse cursor to that area.
This is completely insane and absolutely unusable.
How can I return to the good old way, like it was in every version before?
I couldn't find an option to set the default behaviour for the browser plugin...
This is how it looks now (totally messed up):
And this is how it's supposed to be:

    ...that'd be Adobe.
The heads-up display was designed to maximize the document page within the browser window as much as possible, for devices such as netbooks where another toolbar can be quite a lot of vertical height to lose if your PDF page is in portrait mode. On larger screens it's not needed, but some people prefer it, especially in Reader where there's not a whole lot else on the toolbar anyway. Not all, but some.

  • APPLE ARE YOU EVER GOING TO FIX THE MACBOOK'S WIRELESS PROBLEM??

How long do we have to wait for a simple wireless fix? I have been waiting over a year putting up with being disconnected from the net every single 5 minutes of every day. its making my blood boil. I have to use boot camp to run Windows XP on my macbook just because wireless is absolutely perfect when running on Windows XP. How hard can it be to fix this on Leopard? I have searched through hundreds of threads and have found no fixes whatsoever. For a company who strives for perfection you are pretty far from it.

Not at my house, sadly. Since the update I've been plagued again by the up/down/up/down for "en1" (the wifi network interface, i.e. Airport). I have four bars too; this problem happens even if I'm sitting next to the router.

  • New to BT, Speed and Stability Issues

    Hiya,
I've been on BT Unlimited Broadband for just over 2 weeks now. I have a few problems, it seems:
    1. Gigabit port just doesn't seem to work. I've searched this one and I do have a HH3 Type A. It works on the occasional restart, but then stops...
    2. I keep ending up with absolutely unusable speed. I've had speedtest results as low as 0.69 to 0.07 mbps (at this point the BT one won't even work as it's too slow). As soon as I reset my HH everything goes back to 'normal' at 10-12mbps.  This happens once a day on weekends (I'm at home more though) and maybe every couple days during the week.
    3. I'm just generally finding the broadband 'flakey'.  High pings, latency in gaming, sudden lag... I'm not convinced my stats look great and my profile seems to be dropping (at best it was over 16mb, I've seen it down to 10).  Unfortunately I had to reset my router earlier today as the Internet wasn't usable, at that point I'd had about 23 hours of connectivity (not a manual reset) and my HEC and CRC numbers were up to about 15 million... Here's my stats after an hour and a half.  Does this look normal or a cause for concern? I've not got a telephone to do a line test, but I'll see if I can get one in the next day or so if need be.

To my knowledge I have only a master socket in this flat where the router is connected via a new filter (though it's an old style socket with a BT logo top-left and a solid one-piece faceplace). I've checked wired and wireless, etc with same results.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for your advice.  I did the line test with a corded phone and it seemed OK. No loud crackling or anything, maybe a bit of a faint hum, but nothing noteworthy.  It dawned on me that I hadn't tried swapping out the filter and having done that the speed has gone up and the errors have gone down.
BT have also agreed to swap out my HomeHub for a Type B to fix the Gigabit issue.
Could I ask, what do you think of these results now?  The other thing is... it's switched to Interleaved mode from Fast I noticed.  Are there any consequences or anything I need to do since it seems I spent my whole first 10 days using a duff filter?  Will it have any lasting effects on my profile/speed?
Thank you very much for your assistance.

  • Help to upgrade broken iphone

I am very upset with Verizon. I have been with Verizon wireless for 7 years or so and have 5 smart phones and 2 tablets on my account.  My Grandson recently dropped by iphone 4s and put a crack in the screen. I thought I would just upgrade to iphone 5 s and was told that I do not qualify for a upgrade or the new edge plan. I have paid Verizon thousands of dollars over the years and have been a loyal costumer over the years. I am going to be changing my service to another carrier. It may take a while but it is evident that Verizon does not value their customers and have so many customers that they do not need to retain their customer base. What can Verizon do for me?
    Sincerely

My daughter's iPhone worked fine with a cracked screen for several months before she became eligible for an upgrade.
If you are not eligible for an upgrade to replace the 4s, your options are:
Continue to use the phone with with the cracked screen, unless it is non-functional.  But I've seen some majorly cracked screens and the phones continue to function just fine.  Wait until that line or another line on your plan ias able to upgrade.
Use/activate a spare phone that you or a friend may have (we keep several older, basic phones just for this purpose and we now have a few older smartphones too) until you can upgrade
If you have insurance, use that to replace the iPhone
Look on eBay, swappa, or other private party sites for a replacement to get you through if the phone is absolutely unusable
If you do not have insurance (I don't carry it on our phones - I'll save my $$ and deal  with a lost or damaged phone as needed) and I don't expect Verizon to "do" anything if one of the phones on my account is lost, or stolen, or damaged, especially if I am not eligible for an upgrade.  They will deal with me if I've fulfilled my contracts - if I'm still under contract I don't expect a deal and will figure a way to keep a working phone on the line on my own.

  • Signal strength problem on MacBook Pro

We bought a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n for Christmas. Setup was fairly easy. We have two Macs--an 2005 iMac which is plugged into the AE via Ethernet, and a MacBook Pro from mid-2006 that we use in other rooms.
Our problem is that the signal strength on the MacBook Pro is terrible. Even at just 20 feet away, the signal strength varies between 1 and 3 bars (most often just the one tiny bar). The wireless is basically unusable at that point because pages stop loading.
To eliminate interference as a problem, our daughter brought her 2008 MacBook Pro over and we carried it around the house. It had 4 bar strength with no problems wherever we went and held 4 bars for hours while she used it in the kitchen. So we're pretty sure the problem is not interference in our house, unless her newer AirPort card is far better at blocking it.
What could be causing the signal strength on the older MacBook Pro to be so lousy? The computer is a Intel Core Duo, 2.16 GHz, running 10.4.11. The wireless card is 0x168C, 0x86. The wireless network adapter is 802.11 a/b/g, so it's not running "n", but I can't believe that's the only reason it won't hold a good signal. The AE is set up to run "n" as well as the older ones. (Bear with me...this is my first experience with wireless!)
We've been trying everything we can think of to improve the signal but nothing works. When the bars are in the 2-3 range it runs the internet fine, but the problem is that the signal constantly shifts between 1 and 3. So is the AirPort card in the computer that weak?
Any ideas are most welcome. Thanks.

Sorry, posted in wrong forum by accident. Please ignore.

I'll bet this is a hardware/firmware card with a chunk of AEx cards. I have had the same problem with a recently purchased iMac that was assembled in early '08. I tried all sorts of fixes, but ultimately took it in to a local Apple shop. The "geniuses" spent about 30 seconds looking at the machine (failed to replicate the problem), but then recommended replacing the airport card. I just got it back today &, while I can't yet say everything's hunky-dory, I think the problem's been solved. I'll bet there's a service bulletin that the genius bar has access to that describes this issue.
I had the same AEx series you report. I had the problem with 10.5.4 & then with the 10.5.6 upgrade.
See the following lengthy thread for more similar tales of woe: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1815644&tstart=0.
I think this is hardware-related. It's a $183 dollar fix (parts & labor) -- mine was under warranty, but I think there's enough in the discussion forums to justify pushing for a free replacement, even in an older machine.

  • Rollback Airport update 2005-001

Any way to rollback Airport Update 2005-001 ?
After having problems with 10.4.3, I updated to 10.4.4 with some trepidation, but that worked beautifully.
Then I made the mistake of accepting the Airport update in Software Update. My airport connection to the internet immediately died after that. Can still connect to my base station using ethernet and surf the internet, but once I connect by airport, the wireless connnection to the base station is fine, but I cannot surf using Safari or Firefox, or download mail. Pinging still works, though, strangely enough.
Base station is a Compex NP28G. Ironically Airport Update 2005-001 was supposed to improve compatibility with 3rd party wireless equipment, but it broke my connection !!
    (Offshoot from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=335344&tstart=0 )

    Hi Shih-Tung -
I don't have an answer unfortunately, but I do have the same question, except my system is running 10.3.9 and the airport extreme firmware is version 400.17 (3.90.34.0.p11)
I would appreciate information on rolling back as well - after accidentally applying the "upgrade," my wireless connection is unusable. It can connect, and gets a strong signal, but can't get an ip address. Even setting the ip manually doesn't work. I can connect just fine with ethernet. I have a belkin F5D7230-4 router.
    Thanks,
    Bree

  • Lightroom 2.4 Is Too Slow To Use As A Professional Product

    Hello -
I would like to know how to get Lightroom to respond in less than 4-8 seconds for almost any task.
From returning to Grid mode (4.5 seconds) to adjusting a routine crop and angle (5-7 seconds per move, 60-90 seconds total) to simply shift-selecting three to fifty photos (4-9 seconds) no matter what I do in Lightroom, it is worse that Photoshop 1.0 on a Mac Plus. Really.
Returning to Lightroom from another app - 7 seconds.
Getting the menus to drop down - 4 seconds.
    My lightroom settings:
    standard preview size: 1680
    Quality: High
    Discard 1:1: Never
    write changes to XMP: off
Catalog: 127 mb on F drive (24 gig free)
Catalog: 13.5k photos, 95 gig on F drive
Cache: 6 gig on F drive
    NVIDIA settings: performance over quality
    My computer:
    HP 8730 elitebook
    4 gig ram
    XP Pro, SP2
    Proc: Core 2 Duo T9400, 2666 MHz (10 x 267)
    DirectX    4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
    Chipset: Cantiga PM45
Video: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M  (1024 MB)
    (2x) 250 gig 7200 rmp HD
Before anyone says to export to a new catalog and re-import, etc, use a smaller catalog, etc, be advised that I have done all of that. I have imported only 250 images to a new catalog, on a newly installed OS, with Lightroom as the ONLY application. Still it acts this sluggish.
I have scoured the boards for solutions, and having tried all the varied fixes to no avail, I really quite strongly feel that a person should not EVER be in the position or running some of the most powerful available hardware and STILL have to wait interminable seconds for Lightroom to respond.
This software, as it stands now on the PC platform (unless I am missing something quite obvous) is absolutely unusable in its present state.
Can someone from Adobe or a board guru please respond in kind to my request for help?

It really doesn't matter that the drive is 7200 or 10k rpm if ALL items reside on the same drive. The MacPro has four bays. One drive for system and catalog, second for cache, third for photos=FAST.
Wow, I'm glad you repeated that, and used capitalized text so that I would be sure to understand.
Clearly, the benchmarks I have off of the various evolutions of my last 3, $10k computers must be in error. (single system disk, RAID-0 system disk, 10k RPM system disk, RAID-0 3x -10K rpm system disks, multiple scratch volumes on different drives, singular scratch volumes on RAIDed drives, tested via benchmark programs and application specific batch tests, etc.etc.)
More importantly as an issue of forum protocol, you didn't actually read my post.

I'm throwing 370 mb/sec between two individual sets of 4 drive RAID-0 sets.  Single 7200rpm drives sling about 80 mb/sec.  My drive arrangement isn't the reason Lightroom IS TOO SLOW TO USE AS A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT.
Also, since I referenced and linked the former software engineer turned photo FREAK in my post, whose blog I started reading last year corroborating the decisions I've made in my previous system setups with immaculate documentation and testing procedure your response even more seems like the entire reason I rarely bother posting in community forums.  You seem to be here to spout, not to contribute and learn.
Take a look at all of the info contained here: (I've already read it, all of it, and more)

and if you still think I'm wrong, lets have an informed debate about it.  Really.
Otherwise, lets please keep this topic moving forward with the issues Adobe needs to address next to make Lightroom a better product for professional photographers, and specifically, help out ellsworth999 who started this topic, who seems to have a big helping of problems on his plate. I can't speak to him directly of his problems since I'm not using the Windows version of the software.

  • Intermittent Airport connectoin on my G4 ibook - what could be wrong?

recently my ibook has been experiencing periodic losses of network connectivity via aiport with the signal disappearing completely. This happens at random times and will resume sometimes but is unpredictable to the extent that the wireless connection is unusable.
This does not effect a mac mini (powerpc) or an intel PC notebook I have on the same network.
I'm suspecting a software problem but would expect lots of people to have the same problem then!

    Hi james,
Have you tried a different channel? You can change it in the router. Also, turning on Interference Robustness in the AirPort menu may help.
Be sure to check the antenna as SSharon suggested. This article illustrates a properly attached antenna.

I haven't seen any guide either in the CD or in documentation pages and all the links to administrator or user guides are broken... also would be great any guides about tunning OAS.

  • Outline stroke giving too many unnecessary points.

how will I'm going to deal with this? when I converting into this, it give too many points even it looks like it can can just a 2 to 4 points. Any plugin that I may use while still maintaining its shape? and btw i'm on PC not Mac. Simplify and Cleanup didn't work.

Expanding paths will very often still result in a tremendous point count. I have been trying to figure out the reason for it but this is not very easy.
Here is a screenshot after expanding an envelope containing elements that are basically just circles and merged circles. The result is absolutely unusable. Can't work with it. Simplifying the path gives a little relief but frankly, it's a far cry from the old days.
I have been using Illustrator since version 3. No, not CS3, version 3. That's right, the late nineties...
Now frankly, the expanded result on the right is something Adobe really should pay attention to. This does not only happen with envelopes, mind you.
