  • BB Z10 Powers off automatically/screen freezes

I see I am not the only customer whose BB Z10 powers off automatically or has their BB screeen go black or freeze. This is the second phone since I purchased on May 2. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to what to do. I really like this phone, but don't like phone powering off in the middle of an email. Help.

Troubledbbuser, let's unfreeze your device and stop it from powering off by itself. Have you downloaded a few applications to your device? Some application's software can affect the performance of your device. I recommend that you delete any unwanted applications on your device and power it off/on. • Sprint iPhone powers off automatically

I have a Sprint iPhone and it keeps powering off by itself. I will go to use it and I can't turn it back on by hitting the home button or the power button. I thought the battery was dead but when I plugged it in and held the power and home button for about ten seconds it came back on with the Apple logo. The battery showed 97% so my only thought is that it is power down by itself somehow. This last time it was sitting on my desk so it wasn't hitting something in my pocket or anything. Any thoughts?

This is not normal nor acceptable so if there was no change after a full restore, I think it is time you called AppleCare or if you live near an Apple Store, make an appointment to have your iPhone checked. If you are past the 14 day window after purchase, if there is a problem discovered that requires a repair or replacement, the Apple Store will send your iPhone off to AppleCare anyway so I would start there first regardless.

    Hi ELGODOX,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your desktop's display is experiencing some image-quality issues, and I would be happy to be of assistance! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions:
What is the Product and Model Number of your desktop?
Is the power cord securely plugged into the computer?
Did you install any new hardware or software recently?
In the meantime, I recommend following this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7). This should help test for any deficiencies in the graphics, display or video.
Please re-post with the necessary information, and I look forward to your reply!

You need a network connection and a product such as ScreenRecycler. All such products require a bootable OS on the iMac.

  • "Flexible" Linux desktops remain marked as 'Used' despite being powered off

I remember reading in the release notes for VDI3 Patch #2 that non-Windows OS such as Linux should now be properly 'recycled' as well (I thought that this was why VirtualBox was upgraded from 2.0.8 to 2.0.10)
Either I am doing something wrong or there is still a bug ... But on the POC setup I am currently working on the recycling just never ever happens. Linux VM's are still being considered as being "in use" despite having been powered off. I played with the power management settings so the Linux VM should automagically go to 'sleep' after a few minutes of idle time. If I don't do that the Linux VM's are running forever. I also tried playing with the Kiosk timeout settings. The default was "12000" seconds, so for the sake of testing I put it as low as 300 seconds (= 5 minutes). But this too doesn't change anything.
So the big question here: How can I force VDI3 to consider Linux desktops as being "Idle" and thus "unused" so it would properly trigger the desktop recycling?
EDIT: Right now I am using this shell script as 'Workaround' ... You'd just need to add it to a "cron" job or something like that. Comments on improving this rig are welcome :-)
    #! /usr/bin/bash
    FLEXVDAPOOLS=`/opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda pool-list | /usr/bin/tail +2 | /usr/bin/grep 'flexible' | /usr/bin/awk {' print $1 '}`
    for POOL in $FLEXVDAPOOLS
        do
            export POOL
    # The following line should countain exactly 10 x whitespaces between the words 'Powered Off' and 'Used' on the same line
            /opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda desktop-delete `/opt/SUNWvda/sbin/vda pool-desktops $POOL | /usr/bin/grep 'Powered Off          Used' | /usr/bin/awk {' print $2 '}`
    done
    unset POOL.
Edited by DJ .... My workaround is working.

If the user powers off the desktop (instead of just logout),
then the desktop is not correctly detected as idle. Sorry, but this does not seem to be true. If the user really shuts down the VM then VDI3 does correctly detect the VM as being "idle" and initiates the recycling. What we did here is that we configured the Ubuntu VM's to go into hibernation after 15 minutes if they're idle. I know, I know: Hibernation doesn't work. That's not the point. The point is that VM's won't consume too many resources on the desktop provider if they are idle. To VDI and VirtualBox such a "hibernating" system appears to be "Powered Off" as well, so we assumed it would trigger the recycling too. But it just doesn't happen, such an auto-hibernated Ubuntu VM is still being considered as being "Used" ... which is kind of silly: How can it be "used" if it's "Powered Off"? Especially since we're talking about a flexible pool. By logic a VM can't be "used" in a flexible pool if it's "Powered Off". Hence my workaround above (customer is very happy with it).
I share Dirk's view ... this seems to be a bug. VDI should regard "Powered Off" VM's as being "Idle", especially if they are in a "flexible" pool.

  • Exported a 3 minute video from iMovie to Quicktime, saved on my desktop.  It started saving as INDIVIDUAL files, as in about 5400! Entire system froze, completely unresponsive.  Powered off 3 times now, it comes on and displays my screen saver but nothing

Exported a 3 minute video from iMovie into Quicktime, saved to desktop.  System started saving INDIVIDUAL frames instead and entire system froze.  Powered off and on twice - screensaver appears, but that's it - nothing else is accessible

Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
You may now be able to log in and move the files off the Desktop. Then reboot as usual.

  • Omni 100-5100z Failure to power up

I have an all-in-one Omni 100-5100z. After successfully shutting it down one evening I attempted to power it up the next day. The unit did not power on -- not even a hint of life. I noted that the green LED above the the jack where the power adapter plugs into did not illuminate (as it should when the power button is turned on). Any ideas as to the best place to begin to troubleshoot the problem? The AC adapter, the power supply, or the motherboard?

    swizzletik,
Sorry you got a wild goose chase. It happens. Dunidar meant well.
The power (PSU) supply for the Omni is similiar to a laptop power supply. When plugged into the Omni, it turns on a LED to comfort the user. (Gotta love those little lights).  As your's is not "on", you'll need to test the PSU.
First, be sure the wall cord is firmed pushed into the power brick. It does come out and loose contact (sometimes). Picture of it.   Replacement   or here with all the specs

  • Problems when the GPIB-ENET/100 is powered off.

Is there a way, other than Ping, to prevent the long timeout periods when a GPIB-ENET/100 is in or enters a bad state such as powered off?
    Attachments:
    GPIB_Power_Problem.doc ‏23 KB

    Hi,
I did some tests and searched through the documentation, but I couldn't find any NI-488.2 function that would explicitly verify if the IP address is valid.
An EDVR means that an operating system error occured. Some function within the driver failed and the error code returned by the function is store in ibcnt.
You could use this error to as a signal that the ENET is not there or it is off. Any EDVR means some fatal error occur, so you can assume you need to restablish communication. It doesn't matter if the ENET is off or the network is failing, in any case the EDVR will indicate a fatal condition.
You can then call a function that handles this situation by calling ibonl(ud,0) to close the handle (which i think will also return an EDVR error)
and then try to restablish communication using the ibdev function.
The reason the timeout value doesn't affect the time it takes for the function to return is that the timeout is used to abort GPIB operations, not function calls. The timeout value is used by the ENET firmware to determine when to abort an I/O operation on the GPIB bus. The driver doesn't use this value to timeout the network communication.
Finally, you could use the windows socket API in your code to determine if the IP address is valid. You could probably find some simple ping code that you could include in your application.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrading to ssd for omni 100

I want to upgrade my Omni 100 with an ssd. Is there an after market one that is compatible and won't cost a fortune. I'd like 256 or more GB, but the store is quoting almost $500 (includes installation). Thanks.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&N=100008120%20600038510%20600038519%2...
Any of these will work _ stick to a good band name with a good warranty reputation like Crucial, Samsung or Kingston.
That 500 dollar charge is not un-reasonable.
That covers the labor of re-installing the OS (drivers too for example), your personal files, programs, reactivating them etc....
     It's allot of work.
There are applications that save all this stuff that promise an easy transfer, but they can be unreliable _ sometimes...

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It looks like your NVIDIA graphic is damaged. If you need your computer now, you can fix the computer downloading gfxCardStatus and selecting the option to use only the integrated graphic, so that kernel panic won't appear anymore. Note that you won't be able to use the NVIDIA graphic, so the graphic performance may be worse than with this graphic.
Of course, that's a temporary fix, because you should take the computer to an Apple Store as soon as possible to get the Mac repaired. As the NVIDIA graphic is not soldered, the repair won't be expensive

  • ZBook 17 powers on automatically when the battery is removed and placed back

    Hi all,
I am an IT engineer with a 15 years hands on experience and troubleshooting skills.
2 of the laptops I own are ZBook 17.
One is a UK import (F0V53ET, manufactured in October 2013) and the other is a US import (D5D93AV, manufactured in April 2014). Both of them are running the latest BIOS revision (v01.21).
The strange problem I encountered is as follows:
At the D5D93AV when the AC and the battery are removed (i.e. for upgrading the RAM), when the battery is placed back in, the system automatically powers on. Same applies if there is NO battery attached and the AC plug is attached.
At the F0V53ET, this does not happen (and the normal is NOT to happen).
What I tried to do so far to see if the problem is resolved at the D5D93AV:
    1) I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (v01.21) at both the ZBooks.
    2) Ensured that BOTH the laptops have exactly identical BIOS settings.
    3) Ensured that turn on the machine while on AC is UNCHECKED.
    4) Ensured that there are no power on options enabled (like the timed power on, e.t.c.)
    5) Tried to disable settings like "USB charge, wake on USB" e.t.c.
    6) Tried to remove the CMOS battery, press the power button with no battery or AC to fully discharge, attach the CMOS battery after a minute to ensure the CMOS was cleared and placed everything back.
    7) Tried to replace the OS from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 7 Pro to see if it has an impact to the UEFI Bios settings (i.e. any conflict with Hybrid sleep e.t.c.).
    8) Tried to enable "Power on while on AC" to see if the system behavior changes. When the battery is attached and the AC is also attached, it will power on if the "Power on while on AC" is enabled (so this works as expected).
    9) The problem gets reproduced ONLY when there is either no battery and the AC is attached, or when the battery is attached without the AC (i.e. after reassembling the machine after a RAM upgrade). Then it powers on automatically.
    10) I also swapped the batteries between the 2 ZBooks but the issue with the US model is not resolved either. The battery works fine.
It seems to be either a BIOS issue, or a Power Board issue (hardware fault). The UK model behaves as expected, while the US model seems to have these issues.
Any ideas will be really useful.
So far this is what I did not try yet (due to lack of time):
    11) To attach the US model to a docking station and see how it behaves.
    12) To disable or enable the Hybrid sleep from the Bios (instead of leaving this to AUTO).
    13) To replace the CMOS battery (swap them between the 2 Zbooks), although I don't think it might be the battery as the US unit is NEW with 12 hours of use.
    14) To completely remove (or swap) the Optical drives and see if the problem still persists. I know there are some really rare occassions that the Optical drive might be partially faulty and short circuiting. It may sound crazy, but I have seen and experienced this more than 3 times espexially at desktop machines.
Any info or tips will be useful, although I am afraid I may have to escalate it to the 3rd line of HP as it is a really odd issue.

    Hello, @panoulix
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation is a commercial product. You can do this at Notebook - HP ProBook, ZBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE.
The support page for your product may be helpful in the meantime:
    HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation.
    I hope this helps!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
I worked on behalf of HP.
