HP P1102w connected to the Airport Extreme but cannot print, always offline

OS : WIndows 7
Router : Airport Extreme
When I was using a linksys router, setting up the printer was a piece of cake, but when we move to Airport Extreme the only computer that works is the MAC book pro and the rest of the Windows Base OS doesnt work properly, esp. on a wireless setup.
I'v installed bonjour on my system and still nothing works.
I've check  most of the forum with out any viable solution for this issue.
Whatever hel you can provide me with will be highly appreciated.
kind regards,

Hi @shanwein ,
I see that you are having issues with the printer working over the wireless network with the new Airport Extreme on the Windows computers, but the Mac is working. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
Just to clarify, you are networking the printer, you don't have the USB cable connected from the printer to the Airport?
Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IPv4 of the printer.
Printing a Configuration Page.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
If it loads the printer's network page then the printer is on the network.
You might need to power cycle the router, computer and printer if it doesn't load on the Windows computers.
Run the add printer wizard from Devices and Printers, click on add a printer.
Test the printer.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
Have a great day!
Thank You.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos Thumbs Up" on the right to say “Thanks” for helping!

  • My PC can connect to the airport extreme but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues, any help.

My PC can connect to the new airport extreme I just purchased but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues.  If I open the airport exteme up and provide no security everything is fine which leads me to believe it is something with the encryption between the two devices.  Not sure what step I'm missing here this shouldn't be this difficult.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?

  • I cannot get wireless connection from my AirPort Extreme, despite my ipad confirmed i am wireless connected to the AirPort Extreme.

I cannot browse pages like Google or Yahoo as i get error message saying "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding".  I have tried resetting the Airport Extreme to factory setting and unplugged everything and reconnected them, but still i see that my ipad has connection with the Airport Extreme but i cannot browse the internet using wireless via my ipad.  can anyone help ?

Did you ever get an answer to this? Or figure out a solution? I have the same problem.

The first important thing to consider here is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, so that may likely have something to do with your difficulties.
If you want to continue to try this, the drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with a drive at the port of the Extreme...even if the hard drive has its own power supply....because the port on the Extreme is under powered.
Most users who try this unsupported method have corruption difficulties sooner or later, but we do hear from some users who seem to be able to make it work.
The bottom line is that there is no support from Apple on this if you have difficulties, so you may want to consider a secondary backup plan for your important data.

  • I have a Power PC G4 which is running on OSX 10.5.8, it has the AirPort utility but cannot connect to the internet as my iMac can, I think I might need an AirPort Card? Is that the case or do I need something different to connect to a wireless modem?

    Welcome!
Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.
To get fast wireless without buying more than one thing, consider this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7722IN/
It goes in an available PCI slot
There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:
    USB wireless "dongle:"
Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
    USB PCI adaptor:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Popularity%7c1&Ne=5 000&N=7069&Ntt=USB+PCI
Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. The USB2 card+USB2 Dongle gives you more fast ports for transferring date from other external USB devices (primarily cameras and external hard drives) at hugely faster rates than can the original ports. I have a USB 2 PCI card in my G4 tower strictly for transferring images from my digital SLR camera in a timely manner.

  • HT201250 Time machine back up using a external hard drive connected to the Airport extreme

How can I setup a time machine back up using a external hard drive connected to the Airport extreme? Even better for time managment purposes I want to use the Eithernet Thunderbolt connection for the first back up and then through the wifi there after for daily routine Time Machine back ups.

You can attach a hard drive, but Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port at the AirPort Extreme are not supported by Apple, so it's not possible to say what your actual results might be.
If you decide to try this, it would be wise to have a secondary backup plan in place as well.

can any printer connect to the airport extreme or do i need a special printer?

There are rare exceptions but any USB printer should be able to use its USB printer port. Only the print function of all-in-one a/k/a "multifunction" devices will work with the USB port though.
The Extreme will support any networked (wired or wireless) printer or multifunction device.

  • Can i use time machine with a hard drive connected to the airport extreme?

Just wondering if there is any news on this since the last post was in 2008.
The Apple website info regarding the Airport Extreme mentions attaching a hard drive to the Airport Extreme, but I can't see whether that could be used for a Mac using Time Machine.

  • I bought airport extreme to increase coverage in my 2 story home.  It uses an ethernet connection. There are dead zones which I had hoped to cover with the addition of the airport extreme, but it didn't help.  Any suggestions?

I bought an airport extreme to increase the coverage in my 2 story home.  I get good fast coverage in some spots on both floors, but complete dead zones in other areas.  The airport extreme did not help.  It is connected by ethernet to my cable modem which has a high speed connection.  Is there a configuration I should try to help with these dead zones?
    Thank you- CC in Minneapolis

Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on how to best place your base stations for maximum coverage.

  • How can I get two hard drives connected to the Airport Extreme. There's only 1 USB port.

I believe I want to use TWO USB Hard Drives with my Airport Extreme, but it seems there is only 1 USB port.
I am currently using that USB port for my backup external hard drive (works with Time Machine). But now I have decided I want a common hard drive for music, photos, etc. for the two Macs in my home to share. I read that you do that via the same port.
What should I do? Is there a way to use 2 hard drives - a common shared and one for time machine?
    Please advise and thank you!

    Use a (powered) USB hub.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.

  • Unable to map a disk drive connected to the Airport Extreme

I just bought an Airport Extreme and connected a disk (Iomega Minimax) though the USB. I can see that the disk is connected (in the AirPort tool, and I can manually map it on my laptop (XP) using the IP-adress. Unfortunately I also have a PC (also an XP) connected to the Airport via an ethernet-cable, and here I'm unable to map the drive. Please help me fixing the problem. Thanks.

  • I have an Airport Extreme but cannot back up to the 2GB Hard Drive attached via USB

I have an Airport Extreme (4th generation) an iMac and Macbook Pro (both run on Lion). For some reason the Macbook can see the 2GB HD I have attached to the Airport Extreme and uses it as it's Time Machine. However, the iMac cannot find the 2GB HD to use as it's TM. It's really pi**ing me off.
To make it worse, when I open the Airport Utility I can find the HD, but when I open Time Machine I can't find it. Grrrr!!
    Thanks for any help, Tom

First off, Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port at the AirPort Extreme.
It does seem to work for some users, works somewhat for others and does not work at all for some users. So there may be some differences in the hardware on the iMac and MacBook Pro that might account for some of the difficulties. I cannot say for sure.
Oddly enough, I have both a MacBook Pro and and iMac as well and I've experimented with Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme here several times with varying results.
I too, could not "see" the drive from the iMac when I first tried to set up Time Machine from that computer.
When I mounted the drive on the desktop of the iMac, then Time Machine was able to see it and backups started, but I had corruption problems on the backups after a few weeks.....as some other users have reported as well.
Backups did run OK from the MacBook Pro for a few months before I started noticing error messages and started to have to run Disk Utility to repair the disk. After another month or so of this, Disk Utility could not repair the drive and I had to start all over again.
So, count me in the group of users who have had some success and some difficulties with this unsupported method of backing up via Time Machine. My "experiments" with this on several tries have convinced me that this is not a reliable method to backup my important files, so I use other methods that are supported.
    You may have better luck.
Try mounting the drive on the desktop of your iMac first, then open Time Machine to see if it can "see" the drive to setup backups.

  • IPhone connected to Apple Wireless Extreme but cannot access Internet

I have the Apple Wireless Extreme that I use to connect my MacBook Pro online, and for some reason the iPhone cannot access the Internet. I can connect to the base station, but can't go online - it's getting an IP address and I can see the DNS server addresses. I have tried no security, WEP, WPA and WPA 2 with no luck. I have to resort to connecting to someone elses wireless network so I can go online with the iPhone.
    Any ideas?

I have an Airport Extreme base station using WPA2 Personal encryption for my wireless network without MAC filtering, and I connect with my network with no problems.
How many characters is your password when using WPA2 Personal encryption?
I would also try resetting your wireless network.
Power your MB and your iPhone off.
Power your Airport Extreme Base Station off, and then your modem.
Wait several minutes and then reverse the process.
Power your modem on allowing it to completely reset and connect.
Power your Airport Extreme Base Station on, allowing it to reset with the modem.
Power your iPhone on and try connecting to your wireless network.

  • None of the 3 iphones in the house will connect to my airport extreme, but my macbook and iMac will, no problem.  HELP!

HELP!  I have comcast using a Motorola Surfboard Modem, fairly new, 3 iPhones in the house - 2 4S, 1 4, an iMac, Macbook Pro and Airport Extreme.  The iMac and Macbook pro connects ot internet fine, but none of the iPhones will connect to the internet (though they do connect to the wifi singnal.  I've reset the AE, even to factory default but no luck....

I discovered the solution to the problem, hopefully it helps others with the same issue.Using the airport utility (sorry, i don't recall the procedure verbatim or have access to the utility right now for exact details) find where it lists settings for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, they are probably both set to "Automatic". Change the setting for 2.4ghz from automatic to one of the channel numbers, try a number 1 - 11. Update. You might have to disconnect and connect the wireless device from the network. It worked for me!
