HP P2055dn locks up when network cable connected

We have just moved offices on a university campus and our HP LaserJet P2055dn locks up as soon as a network cable is connected to it. The control panel locks up and none of the menu buttons do anything.

After re-installing iTunes, and doing a full restore on my iPod, I have determined that it was some album cover art that seemed to be causing the problem. The iPod would start to sync, and then hang on one song. Deleted that song, and it synced a little more, and got hung up again on another song from the same album.
I deleted the entire album from my iTunes library, and the iPod synced just fine. I re-ripped the CD in question, this time with out adding ablum cover art, and it worked perfectly.
Now I wonder why iTunes is getting stuck on certian album cover art. The CD in question is Eric Clapton's "Crossroads". iTunes was unable to retreive the album cover art when I ripped the CD [perhaps because iTunes has it listed as "Crossroads (Box Set)"], so I just scanned the cover of the CD and added it that way. I have done this with other CDs, and had no problems what so ever. Anyone have any clue as to why this would happen?

  • Datasocket error when network cable unplugged

    Hi,
I'm having problems with my datasockets.  I have applications running on multiple computers, which publish data to a datasocket on the localhost.  Whenever we unplug a network cable, or the network goes down, the datasocket write function reports the following error code:  -2147014843 in Datasocket Write.
I can't find any information about this datasocket error code.  Can anyone give me advice on how to find more information about this error code?
The result is that whenever there is a network issue, we need to go and resolve it, then we need to log onto each computer (25+) to get the datasockets working again.
Also interesting to note is this problem has only presented itself since upgrading the computers from NT to Win2k & WinXP.
Thanks for any help that can be given.

    Hi again,
Just in case anybody else looks here, and have a similar problem...
The error code we saw was related to the networking functions of Windows.  In particular, the reason we did not see this problem in Windows NT, but it started appearing in 2000/XP, is the media sense functionality of Windows 2000/XP.  In 2000/XP, if there is no connection detected, the OS dumps the IP stack, and with it, the IP address.  As a result, when we try to write to a datasocket on the computers IP address, Windows returns an error, since there is no IP address anymore.
To resolve this issue, we turned off Media Sense on the affected computers.  We followed the instructions on this page:
    http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Disable-Media-Sense-TCPIP-Windows-XP.html
Now, when the network drops out, we keep the same IP address, and so the datasocket can continue to write to the local computer, without any problems.

  • S20 Won't boot to windows with network cable connected

    S20-4157, Windows 7 x64
Every time I reboot my machine, I have to unplug the network cable.  I can plug it back in after I log in.  If I don't, it gets stuck on the windows startup screen.
I think this is related to the lenovo power manager.  I get the following event log error on boot:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    TPPWRIF
When I go to control panel, and start the power manager app, it does not start.  Locked up with splash screen.  I tried uninstalling the program as well, and cannot.  Get an "unable to run on this system" message when I try to uninstall.

That's odd to say the least.  DId this app come installed from the factory?  I'm not sure why a thinkpad power manager utility would be included in our preloads.  The fact that you're not able to uninstall it sort of concerns me.  Have you tried uninstalling via safemode or when logged in as administrator?

  • Kernel Panic when network cable is plugged in

    Hi everybody!
first, sorry for my english - i will give my best =)
    I have an 1,8 ghz G5 with 2 GB RAM, OS = OSX 10.3.9
It worked well for approx. 3 years. Since 1 week i get a kernel panic (a message appears where it says i have to restart the system) after a few minutes when the network cable is plugged in.
if the network cable is not plugged in, it works!
i have already changed the network card (i have tried 3 different) and a new network cable...
    so what could that be?!
    thanks for every answer
    Alf

yup. i've heard of a daemon that does exactly what you're looking for. It's called ifplugd, and there's a package available for it in Extra. You can read up about it at ifplugd's homepage.

  • No error with VISA CONFIG SER. PORT when no cable connected

I'm using LV8.5 and VISA CONFIGURE SERIAL PORT.VI, with an error indicator connected, and I expect to see an error displayed when I have NO SERIAL CABLE connected to my pc. Shouldn't this condx generate an error? If not, what can I do to display an error when no cable is connected?

Are you saying that you wan the configure serial port VI to throw an error if you don't have a cable connected to the serial port?
It can't.  How would the serial port know whether a cable is connected or not?  The VI configures the port which is the actual hardware implementation inside your PC.  It doesn't know what is happening beyond then connector on your PC.
You do have some alternatives though.  If the device you are going to communicate with puts any voltage on any of the hardware handshaking lines, you could check the status of the hardware handshaking lines and see if they are enabled or not.  If they are not, you can throw your own error saying the cable or the device is not connected.  Or if the device doesn't do that, you could make your own communication cable that does a loop back on the hardware handshaking lines.  If the line is not enabled, then the cable must not be connected.  Of course in that case it won't tell you whether the other end of the cable is connected to anything.

  • Laptop and Network cable connection

    I am thinking of buying the HP - 17.3" Pavilion Laptop - 8GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive - Dark Umber laptop [ http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+17.3%22+Pavilion+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+750GB+Hard+Drive+-+Dark+Umbe... ]
But I want to be able to hook it up to my cable internet connection instead of going wireless.  Can it do this [out of the box ] or do I need to adapt it somehow, or find another machine?

No, all you need is a Cat-5 or Cat-6 network cable.

  • No Sync when network drive connected

    Hello,
I have an ipod nano that won't sync through itunes when network drives are mapped.
I am not trying to sync to the network drive, but just the presence of network drives stops the nano from syncing with itunes.
As soon as I disconnect the network drives the ipod syncs with itunes fine.
I have tried this on two different computers and the same thing happens.
I am using Windows XP-sp2 with the latest itunes (6.0.4) and the latest updates for the ipod.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Any workarounds?
    Thank you in advance.
    Chris

    Hi win,
See this article, in particular the bit about mapped drives and changing the drive letter. Might help.

  • Lost Time Machine and Network when Network Cable Unplugged Briefly

    Hi,
I rearranged my desk and unplugged time machine (airport) from my network. When I plugged it back in it had gone to default settings with no sign of my previous network. I had to set up a whole new network and set up time machine as if it was new. When I finished and opened time machine I can see the previous files I had saved on it (by creating folders on it- something I won't mess with again), but have no idea where all the backups are. It still had all my default info on it (It new it's name but no sign of my previous network). Fortunately I just bought a new macbook pro so I'd already duplicated my data and I don't need the backups but is there a way to redirect time machine so it sees them? It also used to say that it was full and now the light is green and no warning about being out of space and overwriting my old files. I'm afraid to mess with it.
What happened? Anyone else experience this?

    I'm very confused.
Some of this may be terminology problems:
*+Time Machine*+ is Apple's software that performs backups.
An +*Airport Extreme+* is a wireless router that you can connect a USB drive to.
A *+Time Capsule+* is Apple hardware combining a wireless router and HD.
In one place you say you'd set up Time Machine, but in another you mention creating folders on "it" (I'm not sure what "it" is).
Could you clarify your setup please?

  • Qosmio F50 - Up arrow signal when HDMI cable connected

    Hello,
I've been able to connect my laptop to my LCD TV (LG LH4000) through HDMI but every 3~5 seconds it seems to receive a signal from the up arrow.
Let's say I'm browsing some files in the windows explorer and it goes up one file, just as if someone pressed the up arrow.
This only happens when its connected using HDMI. As soon as i unplug the cable, it stops doing it.
I've tried to search for similar problems, but no luck.
    Thanks for your help

    Hello

If you found a solution i would really want to know it in the mean time i will continue to try to solve the problem.

  • ITunes 7.3 locks up when iPhone is connected!

Just got my lovely new iPhone, and I can't do a thing with it.
Installed 10.4.10 and iTunes 7.3 (after a false starte with the iPhone before I realized I needed to add the newest software).
Now, when I connect the iPhone to my MacBook Pro, iTunes doesn't open. If I open iTunes first and then connect the iPhone, iTunes locks up and takes the entire computer with it. I can't Force Quit, change applications or start any new apps. I have to shut the Mac down by holding the power button.

  • Video playback from albums won't work when AV cable connected

I have created an Album on my iPhone 3G that has stills & video content. Previewing & playback on my phone works fine. However, when I playback the album hooked up with an Apple Composite AV cable, everything plays fine until it gets to the video where it just gives a black screen with the audio only playing. If I play the individual clip from iTunes on my phone, it plays back perfectly over the AV cable. Has anyone had any success playing back video in an Album over an Apple AV cable? Is it because I'm using an older model phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is not plugged into an Ethernet port on the back by mistake? That would present a 150 ohm short circuit. The sockets are very similar, and some Ethernet sockets will take a phone cable as well.
I am surprised that a Freesat box needs a phone line, unless its for some form of remote control.

  • Itunes locking up when ipod is connected.  Firewall problem?

Hi folks. For years I have been running itunes, an ipod touch and NOD32 firewall with no problems at all. But a couple of days ago I connected up my ipod and there is a problem.
itunes launches as you would expect, but it immediately hangs. After a few minutes, it will free up, but the ipod is not visible in itunes. I can see it in Windows and the USB driver is working fine.
If I disconnect the ipod whilst itunes is "stuck", then itunes immediately starts responding properly. So it looks very much like this freezing is caused by itunes hanging on the ipod.
Here's the wierd thing: I have found that if I disable my firewall, the problem goes away. i.e. everything works fine if the firewall is disabled. No lockups and itunes can see the ipod and will happily sync with it.
I really don't see how the firewall can be the culprit though. I didn't think firewalls applied to USB connections??!
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and it makes no difference. I have also upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2 and that didn't fix it either.
Any ideas what's going on (And how to fix it?)
    Thanks
