HP p6040d monitor going to sleep when starting

Hi our desktop does not start anymore. Everytime I turn it on, monitor says "no signal", and goes to sleep.
My sister suggested me to check the cables. I reconnect all the cables, and it turned on successfully. The next day, when we turn the pc on, it does the "no signal" again and goes to sleep. I checked the cables again, but this time it does not work.
I don't have another monitor to check if this is a monitor/cpu issue.
By the way, the last 2-3 times I turn it on the cpu beeps(long beeps, for about 2 seconds each) multiple times.
What are your suggestions? Buy a new vga cord?
This pc is not that old, it's just 4-5 years old.

Any suggestions?

  • HP Monitor going to sleep on start up

Ok, I've dealt with this problem long enough. I have an HP pavilion Elite, hpe 400f. Monitor worked great on it, then one night while I was checking my email, the picture went scrabled, and ever since I am faced with a "Monitor Going to sleep" error on start up. I can not get into my settings or do anything.
It does not work on other working monitors, I tried a whole new set of cables and when that did not help, I went and bought a new graphics card. That did no good either. But I can not install the drivers until I can actually see how to do it.
So what now? Nothing HP told me works. I am about to go crazy with this.  I've begged HP to help me for a year off and on to no prevail.
    Can you PLEASE help me?

  • Monitor not going to sleep when close my lid to MacBook Pro

Hi. I was wondering if there was anyway that I could get my Dell E173FP monitor to sleep when I close the lid to my macbook pro. I do not have it on mirroring mode. When I close the lid to my laptop it will just switch my desktop to the monitor instead of the monitor going to sleep with my macbook. When I press the power button and click sleep or go to the apple menu and click sleep it will work though. This really irritates me and I would like It to sleep when I close the lid instead of having to do more. Please help.

Sounds like the system is going into Clamshell mode.  Here's some info on that mode.
One workaround would be to disconnect line voltage as that's required for clamshell mode, there may be others.

  • HP Pavilion, Monitor going to sleep error

When i start up my HP Pavilion, It shows a screen with no vga signal, and then it says "Monitor going to sleep" I do not know what to do? Please help.

I am having the same problem where my Desktop turns on, nothing comes up on the monitor and it goes to sleep fairly quickly, and the fan just keeps running in the tower and is louder than normal.  The keyboard does not seem to be responsive and I checked to make sure my monitor is working.  How would a bad graphics card make the fans keep running like that?

I have read your post on how your monitor goes into sleep mode and will not wake up, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • HPw2207 Monitor Goes To Sleep & Won't Wake Up

My HPw2207 Wide LCD Monitor goes to sleep and won't come out of the sleep mode.  The screen is blank and won't respond.  I have to unplug power and reboot the HP Desktop to get the monitor to work again.  Once the monitor is timed to sleep the same thing happens and I have to reboot the system again.  The computer is an HP-Pavillion d4999t (KC836AV-ABA).  I also have an  NVIDIA graphics card on the system.  This started about a week ago.  I checked the cable connection and it appears to be fine.  I tried downloading an updated driver for the monitor for Windows 7 from this site but it encounters an error when trying to install.  I have set the sleep mode to "Never" for now hoping that this will at least keep the monitor awake in screen saver mode.  I need some help.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi:
Thanks for your nterest in the problem.  Yes, I have tried pressing both the power button and the spacebar to bring the monitor out of sleep mode.  Neither works.  The power button is non responsive at this point.  Shutting off the monitor and restarting does nothing as well.  The only way to get the monitor out of sleep is to disconnect all power and cold start the entire system.  However when the monitror goes back into sleep mode the system freezes up again.

  • Since update download monitor shows "No Signal" and "Monitor Going to Sleep" over and over

I have an HP w2072a Monitor and a Pavillion p7-1436s computer.  I run Windows 8.  Since downloading an update yesterday, I cannot get my monitor to work.  I have unplugged it, plugged it in, tried another monitor, tried another cable, turned the computer off and on several times, played with the sleep button, tried all the buttons on the monitor--nothing works.  If I hit the "On" button, the light turns to blue briefly, I get the screen showing "No signal" then "Monitor Going to Sleep" comes up and the light turns amber---over and over again.  Could this be related to the update I received?  I think the update said it was setting a restore point, but with no monitor, I am stuck!

    Hi dianthus,
Sorry to hear about the issue after doing the update. Do you recall what the update was for? I have included a document regarding your issue.

  • Late 2012 mac mini display signal drops while booting and monitor goes to sleep

I have a new Late 2012 Mac Mini.  I have had it for a week, what just started happening is that during restart, the video signal drops and my monitor goes to sleep.  I then have to toggle through the input options on the monitor and the video signal is detected again and the monitor wakes up.
Here is what I see - If i shut down and then power back up, I get the grey screen, then the apple logo, then the little status circle spins for a few cycles then stops and then the screen goes black and the monitor says signal lost and then 5 seconds later goes to sleep.
It is possible it is my monitor but, I haven't had any issues with it and i only drops the signal like that during a reboot.

Welcome to the family. Search this forum for the main thread for this problem titled: "mac mini 2012 video blinking out".

  • Prevent monitor going to sleep during slideshow

Prevent monitor going to sleep during long slideshows. It's very annoyng having to 'shake' your mouse every few minutes to prevent screen blackout.
Some programs do that (e.g. BSPlayer when playing movies).

    Hello DeniWilco,
Since you can isolate when the issue happened the first thing to consider is doing a system restore to a time before the issue happened.
Can you reproduce this same issue while in safe mode?

  • IMac goes to sleep after start up

    Hi,
I've got a 2011, 21.5" iMac. I've had a few screen problems with it, and it's had two replacements now.
The first problem was a screen burn, or some cloudy patch behind the screen, so I got the screen replaced at the Apple Store under the warranty. The new screen worked fine for about a week, then wouldn't turn on, so I took it back, and they replaced the screen again, as well as the baclight board. This seems to have (for now) solved the problem. It's been about a week since I got my iMac back, and it's screen is now going to sleep when it starts up. So, it boots up, with the Apple logo, then the screen shuts off and it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button to get it back on. I've also noticed this only happens when I boot it up at the start of the day, so if I were to restart it now, it won't do it.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and stuff, but it's not made a difference... Does anyone know what the problem could be, or has anyone had this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Sam,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.

  • Why does my macbook pro "goes to sleep" when charging?

Why does my macbook pro "goes to sleep" when charging? It is working fine without charging but once I attach the charger to my laptop, it just blacks out or goes to sleep mode and I can't wake it up unless I unpluck the charger.
I read from threads that it is a logic board problem....How do I solve this problem?

Try an SMC reset. Follow the method for "a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • MacBook Pro goes to sleep when copying files from attached drives

I have noticed that since installing Yosemite my MacBook Pro goes to sleep when it is in the middle of copying a large number of files.  When I wake it up the copying continues.
I have also noticed that when I am watching videos from my shared iTunes library on an Apple TV the video will stop after about 15 minutes and the connection to the library is lost because the MacBook Pro has gone to sleep. When woken up then access to the library is restored but I need to reselect the movie and then resume.
I have changed the power saving options to do not let drives sleep when idle and do not sleep laptop.
Anyone else have any experience of this or better still a fix.
    Thanks in advance.

I have just found that if I turn off the display sleep in the power settings then the problem is resolved.  It means though that the screen on my MacBook Pro is on all the time albeit with a screen saver.

  • Computer not going to sleep when lid closed

My wife's new MacBook Air has a couple of problems we can't figure out.  First sometimes the computer is not going to sleep when lid is closed and when we lift the lid everything is frozen.
Second, the user Library folder is not seeable in her user account.  I know it's there because on the side bar there's a short cut to Preferences folder which we can open.
    Strange behavior.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Ron,
The user library folder (~/Library/) is hidden by default in Lion. I assume Apple doesn't want people mucking around with the sensitive files in there. So this is normal behavior.
As for the freezing issue, I would suggest you reset your power management and perform a safe boot to clear out caches. You should also see if the issue persists after disconnecting USB perhipherals.
    Here's how:
    Power Management:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Safe Boot:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

  • My Macbook Pro (5,3) sporadically goes to sleep when the lid is open and in use.

My Macbook Pro (5,3) sporadically goes to sleep when the lid is open and I am actively using it.  This problem happens both with OS X 10.7.2 and Windows 7 (64bit), so I don't think it's an OS issue.  Has anyone else encountered this? It's still covered under apple care... But I'd rather try to fix it myself before having to bring it in.
    Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case - it does get hot.  However, this happens even when I first open it after having it in sleep mode for an entire night...  Do you know how to run the diag tool with OS X 10.7?
