HP P6730f window 7, no video/wireless usb mouse wont respond/no caps num lock lite on keyboard

Good Morning, I have a HP P6730f running window 7 home that has developed a problem.  It had shut it down & rebooted but when I pushed the power on button on the box which turned on & started the reboot. However the monitor remained black (it was turned on), the usb wireless mouse didnt work, & the keyboard didnt respond (num &  cap lock lights wouldnt turn on or off).  I turned it off & removed the cables & replaced them & tried to start up again & same thing happened.
The system is abt 3 1/2 yrs old.
Any suggestions?

Hardtarget2, welcome to the forum.
The symptoms that you describe could be a failing power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot it.  If the computer doesn't boot completely or there is not enough power for the computer to operate properly, the USB devices won't power-on.

  • My wireless usb mouse freezes or gets stuck on right click/drag

My wireless usb mouse has been getting stuck on right click and/or drag, or the right click just freezes and becomes unusable. Sometimes, my mouse jumps erratically and opens anything that the arrow crosses. I can't use my trackpad because it's broken, but the trackpad itself isn't causing any problems. My system preferences for mouse and trackpad are all fine. My bluetooth is turned off in accordance with the recommendations of people having similar problems. My anti-virus programs don't detect a macro virus or any other problems. Only restarting in safe mode temporarily solves the problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Some people have suggested this may be caused by a swollen battery. However, my laptop is a somewhat more recent model and I don't have a portable/removable battery, so I can't solve the problem by taking it out and back in as some people have. Other suggestions?
    Thanks!

Update: I've also tried repairing permissions and that doesn't help.
I've experimented with other mouses just to see if there'd be a difference, but the problem is definitely with the computer. All plug-in or wireless mouses have the same results. Right click still won't work.

  • Trackpad or USB mouse wont work

I am struggling with my Macbook pro. Its an early 2010 model. Just in the past couple days the mouse wont work. It just decides it does not want to click at all. Sometimes i can get the right click to work. If i restart with keyboard commands it is fine for about 10 min then does it again.  I thought it was the trackpad but it is performing fine.  I can feel and hear it depress and clilck properly but no action on the screen when it clicks. If i plugin a USB mouse i get the same problem.  I have reset PRAM, repaired permissions, done a hard drive verify and run the hardware test from install disk both easy and extended hardware test. And everything comes up as fine and the permissions repaired fine.
A couple months ago this computer was acting really weird and i decided to reformat with a fresh system since it had been over a year since i got it. It was a struggle to do even that. It would not install the system after a basic HD erase (which has never happened to me).  I had to zero out the HD to get the system to install.  It worked fine after i finally got it reinstalled and setup until now this mouse thing is happening
I am just wondering if this seems more like system corruption or a hardware issue like bad HD or bad board.  I am about to reformat again but I hate to go through all that setup again if it is hardware. Anyone have any thoughts on what to try next. Thanks

The regression reported here http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=137523956310060&w=2 did not solve the problem as i installed the patch found here https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36296
Still the same message shown in the xorg log.
    EDIT:
Also, after being connected the mouse connects as a keyboard, but the actuall mouse functionality dosnt work.

  • HP wireless USB mouse won't connect.

I have an HP wireless mouse that uses a battery and USB to connect. It connects fine with my Windows but can't be found with my Macbook Pro. Any suggestions? Thank you.

It still doesn't connect. I plug the USB into the port, switch the mouse to "on" and then hit the connect button. Then a light on the mouse, below the scroll wheel, blinks orange.
Have you tried new batteries in the mouse?
Have you tried putting the receiver in the other USB port? Along with new batteries in the mouse?
Could be the USB port you have the receiver plugged into does not properly power the receiver.

  • Screen Saver lasts less than a second (Wireless USB Mouse)

When I put my pointer in the hot corner (lower left), the screensaver activates for less than a second, then goes off as if I've moved the mouse or pressed a key.  The pointer disappears, then reappears immediately in the corner before the screensaver goes off, so that makes me think the computer is thinking that the mouse is moving (which it is not) and thus turns off the screensaver.
I recently updated to Mavericks with the exact same mouse I was using before, which is a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 with Intellipoint installed.  The only way to switch off the mouse would be to disconnect the USB or remove the batteries from the mouse.
    http://jimlapbap.com/files/preview/Screensaver.mov
Also, the screensaver is set to go on after 20 minutes, but it never does.
    Any advice/help would be appreciated.

The problem is no longer there.  Repairing permissions may have been the solution, but I'm not sure because I tried a lot of things.

  • USB Mouse, Keyboard not recognized in Windows

    Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium on my late 2012 iMac, the installation seems to have gone well except that after running the Bootcamp setup program Windows restarted and now does not recognize any mouse/keyboard - USB mouse and keyboeard as well as Magic Trackpad/Bluetooth keyboard are unresponsive. They worked before the restart, and also work in Safe mode.
Has anyone had/fixed this issue, or can direct me to instructions to help? I've looked over the forum and not found same issue. I'm assuming any fix would have to work in Safe mode as I can't do anything in Normal mode!
    USB port issue?
I'm also assuming I will have to separately fix the Trackpad/Apple Keyboard issue, but first just want to get basic USB devices working.
    Thanks!

Good News: I got it working OK.  Not sure exactly what fixed it, but will list what was done differently in case it helps someone else.
    1. Did a clean install from the Windows 7 Pro x64 disk I had purchased.  The first time I had used an ISO image downloaded from the Internet (not MS site) to create the thumb drive installer, per Bootcamp 4 instructions.
    2. Updated the Windows install using MS Update.  I had to install some drivers I found on the Bootcamp disk I made the previous time.  Those drivers were anything relative to Network and WiFi, so I was able to access the Internet.  Before that I couldn't connect.
    3. After the above, I repeated the download process that downloades the Windows support software for Bootcamp and made a new CD.
    It worked.
I still find the service from Microsoft and even Apple to be an exercise polite but useless finger pointing.  Neither organization wanted to help me.  As with most tech support groups, the object is to get rid of the problem if possible by blaming someone else.  Imagine what might have happened if the Apple tech would have actually conferenced me on a call to Microsoft!  Tech support is non-existent for Bootcamp.
Drop a line to [email protected] if you need anything explained about the above.  Cheers.  -John

  • External Microsoft USB Mouse "slows" over clickable objects

I've just gotten around to plugging in a wireless USB mouse from Microsoft into my iBook. Everything is fine except that when I turn sensitivity to the highest setting (the way I like it and have it set on my touchpad), the cursor slows down over clickable objects.
Is there a way around this? The touchpad doesn't have this problem.
    Thanks,
    James

Thanks for the feedback and sharing the comments from Apple. That kind of information helps other users!
Some other things you can try.
Uninstall the LCC using the original installer.
Then do a manual search of the Library files and delete plist files showing Logitech or LCC in the file name. (Find and Spotlight do not search the libraries by default so you'll need to navigate to the User and System libraries manually before doing the search.)
I used to have a Logitech track ball and I did notice that the LCC software sometimes did odd things I didn't like. After uninstalling the LCC and the plist files, the trackball worked just fine with the default Apple drivers.
The one sure way to get rid of the LCC drivers is to do an Erase and Install of the OS - It is a lot of work....
Short of a full Erase and Install, after manually removing the LCC drivers and plists, you can download and run the 10.5.5 Combo updater which may (or may not) correct faulty driver issues.

  • Usb mouse doesnøt work on snow leopard 10.6.8

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacBook, my USB Mac mouse became erratic then stopped working entirely. I tried a wireless USB mouse. That also worked for a while, but it too then stopped. Please help. I'm not a Mac geek, so need to be held by the hand a little. Thanks for your help.

    Mkeschinger,
I was using it with 10.6.8 for a long time till now.

  • T61 Keyboard disabled when external USB mouse plugged.

    Hi,
I have a T61 with WinXP SP3. Also a Microsoft 4000 wireless USB mouse. If I plug in the mouse too early in the boot process, they keyboard and ultranav stop functioning (probably disabled somehow). The external mouse still works. How to change this functionality?
    Thanks!

    I use a Microsoft 3000 USB-attached mouse.
I plug the mouse dongle into the USB port BEFORE pushing the Power On switch, and have never had any trouble.

  • USB mouse failure

The wireless USB mouse I had been using on my Ideapad S10-2 for nearly a year suddenly stopped working. I borrowed a friend's wireless mouse for the time being and later that same day that mouse (only a couple months old) stopped working as well. Neither mouse works on any other laptop either. When you plug them in nothing happens, i.e. they're both dead. fairly expensive mice, too!  Now I don't dare put anything into the USB port where the problem occurred.
What can be the matter? I still have warranty left and would like to get things fixed, but am unable to find a single phone number or website in Finland to get an address where I could take or send my Lenovo Ideapad. Not one of the phone numbers I've obtained lead anywhere useful, and in fact, the number quoted by Telia-Sonera (where I bought this Ideapad) and several other sources keeps the customer revolving around the same recordings to no end or offers this website for an answer regardless of  which recorded instructions you follow! I do not want discussion; I want my Ideapad fixed before the warranty runs out!
    Thanks, people!

    Thanks for the tips!
If someone would be so kind as to disable the phone number  you gave, it would save people time and trouble. Also, if there is no place in Finland to take a Lenovo Ideapad to be fixed even though it still has warranty left on it, I wish that information were available when making the decision to purchase, and certainly no later than if something goes wrong. I've spent all kinds of time looking for a dealer that possibly doesn't even exist. I know it's not your fault, but it also is not fun, so maybe you could pass the word along...?
Again, thanks! Very kind of you!

  • Mysterious moving wireless mighty mouse...

I've noticed that my wireless mighty mouse, although sitting quietly on the desk, appears to be moving the onscreen pointer around the screen. This has been interfering with my use of TextExpander which I use to expand text snippets, so suggests that there's something wrong with the way the wireless mighty mouse is responding to being at rest. I've gone over to using a wired mighty mouse and don't see this behaviour. Anyone else getting this?
Should I just give the mouse to my cat? Or should I phone Apple?

Try taking the battery out of the mouse and putting them back in. Also, make sure nothing is blocking the LED.
Are you able to use your iMac with a regular wired mouse? In other words, if you use another mouse, does it function normally?
Otherwise (if the above is not helpful), it seems likely that the mouse is defective. You should take it back (or to an Apple Store) for replacement under warranty.

  • Transfer pictures and video wirelessly as they are taken to a PC. Wireless USB or Bluetooth or WiFi.

I have an application at work where we need to do this with a point and shoot camera as well as camcorder.  Wireless USB or WiFi would all work. The wireless network here has WEP security login as well.  HELP!

If you have built-in wireless camera you can do it. I don't understand your question, do you need help with purchase a camera like that or you already have a camera and need to set it up.

  • Windows 8 and Dynadock Wireless U

I have loaded the Windows 8 beta drivers located here
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?pf=true&soid=3460293
I am running the Windows 8 Pro RTM version.
The displaylink portion of this works fine but I have not ben able to get any of the other resources connected to the dock to work. LAN, Audio, and addtional USB cnnected items like Mouse and Keyboard are not recongnized.
When attaching the Wireless USB dongle the dock connects but requires pressing the button on top of the unit to dock. Then as above I get video only.
I have tried this on on notebook and a tablet with fresh installs of Wndows 8 x64 loaded.
I can see Toshiba components device manager but the ASIX NIC and the aditional sound device are not listed as they were in Win 7 x64.
Anyone work around this issue yet? Are there any alpha drivers available that might correct this issue?
    Thank you.
