HP Pav17 Acronis on usb

HP Pav17 Acronis on usb
I am trying to boot acronis on usb on a 2014 HP Pavillion 17. It has uefi so I turn it off with legacy mode, but it won’t boot. I try different usb ports, it won’t boot. Every other computer in my house can use this usb device to boot acronis fine except the hp. Acronis says dev_driver_string at the top and “SGI XFS with large block numbers, no debug” at the bottom. What does this mean, can I get this machine to boot Acronis?

Hi,
Probably you did not follow the process to create the right bootable recovery set on USB. Noe please contact HP to get the right recovery media:

For a brand new X1C,  may i ask what some pointers are might be relevant to imaging?
apparently,  USB 3.0 flash drives will not work due both to Windows 7 as well as Acronis not recognizing USB 3.0 for a boot up drive (as USB 3.0 post dates Windows 7 and Acronis).
have y'all been successful with a 32gb USB 2.0 flash drive?   any particular brand?
also:  how much of your 32gb flash drive was consumed with a brand new image of the X1C please?
    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hello Champs,
I have this HP Touchsmart Envy 4-1115dx came with Windows 8 installed.
As it came with 500 GB of Hard drive as i needed 1 TB so i replaced the HDD by below steps.
    1. Made HP Recovery Media Drive via 32 GB Flash Drive from Windows 8.
    2. Confirmed it on 500 GB by running recovery and it worked fine.
    3. Now i open the Laptop and replaced Hard Drive.
    4. ran recovery via USB on 1 TB Hard DRive.
Everything gone normal and all softwares (HP default) done successfully but upon completion it restarted and since then it keep restarting again and again.
It gave some RAID volume error and i delete that volume.
I again ran recovery and it completed till same place and now again restarting after window logon screen.
    Someone please Help,

They are smart enough to fetch money from customers but there are other ways to solve it and as i didnt get a reply from someone to solve so i did it my way.
You need following stuff and a little work to solve it out
WD External Drive with at least 20 GB free space
An extra computer/ laptop to make bootable USB
A Hiren CD or Acronis True ImageSoftware (First one available free and second one trial can do the magic)
Follow below steps and you''ll make it work
Insert your existing hard drive into computer (that came with your laptop)
Reset or run recovery on your computer
    AFter successfull Installation
download Acronis True Image or use HIREN CD/USB to use acronis from it ---> Make a bootable USB (you can make bootable usb from their Trial version as well)
Restart your system and Boot with Acronis Bootable USB or HIREN USB or Hiren CD
Now Do a DISK BACKUP of ur whole DISK and save the image to your WD drive - remember whole DIsk not few partitions (it takes an hour to complete.
When it is done Shut Down the Laptop and Connect your new hard drive to it
Again boot from ACRONIS OR HIREN and then run RESTORE disk
Select image from WD hard drive and let it run on whole disk (same takes an hour)
When it is done shut down your computer
Remove all USB and WD Drive
It will Turn on Swiftly and your recovery from Disk and HP Recovery USB will also work on it
    Enjoy

  • New G500 1) how get to bios, 2) can't boot SSD Help! Thanks!!!

If this is not the right forum please tell me where.
    1) apparently only way to get to BIOS is from power off and press little button?  Apparently no F2 F12 or whatever?  Yes? No?
    2) I pull the SSD out of my V570 and stick it into the G500 and it does not see it in the boot menu.  I plug it externally through a Apricorn sata to usb3 adapter and boot menu does not see it.  Boot menu DOES see a usb flashdisk that is bootable (Acronis)  What do I have to do to the SSD to get the G500 to see it?
SSD has Win7 Pro x64 SP1 current and works fine on V570 (typing on it now).  It's in MBR format.
    SSD is Sammy 840Pro 128GB.

pity. nice set of hardware. bios/mobo is wedded to Win8.  It will not boot my Acronis flash usb or a Win7 install flash usb, or my SSD.  back it goes.

  • Acronis Backups (XP to USB HDD (fat32)) connected to AEBS

I can't seem to use my airport disk as a destination for my acronis backup. I keep getting an access denied error. I can map the network drive - although doing that was more trial and error. I kept getting a username/password dialogue box but didn't know what to populate the username box as user access was turned off. I tried with user accounts, same problem. Backup fails. The windows taskbar utility is very weird, it has settings that you can click but there is no 'apply' button just a close window so really don't know what the point of that is. Anyone got a tutorial for using Airport disks in XP??

Per chance, did you try checking the Acronis support forums/Knowledge Base to determine if this backup/imaging software supports AirPort Disks as a destination source?

  • System Image Restore can't see USB hard drive

    Hi
I've just spent a day taking System Image backup images of three different hard drives. Well ok I didn't just sit and watch the bar move across the screen although it did hold up my computer. Anyway, what a waste of a day from my PC because
when I try to restore using System Image backup from my USB drive, the USB drive cannot be found. I have followed the procedure on page 750 of Configuring Windows 7, 70-680 precisely.  I tried booting from an OS DVD and a Windows Repair
DVD, but no USB drive.  I tried using a blank usb stick and that can't be found either. The USB drive can be seen when I logon to Windows to get the images on it. Might this be more to do with hardware such as adjusting BIOS boot settings,
or updating BIOS firmware. There seems to be others with unresolved problems like this. Should I join them and buy Acronis instead?
    Tx

Thanks for sending me these links and I will check them out. I think I came across most of the answer on the following link although doubts are raised:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/windows-7-restore-from-image-wont-recognize/ce8e3d0a-236d-4eff-8370-c171d2dfa555?tm=1333929198413&page=1#footer
Basically, I should have had three files on the external drive as follows:
    a.      A file named: MediaID.bin
    b.      A file that has the same named as your computer name (this is where the .zip files are located).
    c.      The 'System Image' folder named 'WindowsImageBackup'.
By moving my backups into a folder out of the way and doing a fresh backup I prevented some confusion in the system. After this I could at last see the external drive and backup when doing a system image recovery. But how is
it be possible to store more than one backup of hard drives on an external disk? The only way I know is by moving backups in and out of a folder which will take ages to do. Maybe I can rename the unused backups but this will get confusing
because there are thee files to a backup and I think files are overwritten when doing backups if left in the route of the external drive. I is too easy to overwrite a backup of another drive by accident.

  • USB EHCI chipsets causing Windows 7 x64 failures in Pavilion

I use Acronis TIH 2012 to backup the primary and logical partitions on my pavilion g6 notebook, currently running windows 7 x64 with 8Gb RAM.  I have a problem on this particular notebook, it looks like a hardware compatibility issue, and this query is about the USB hardware of the notebook compared to other pavilion machines. The problemI can successfully backup the primary partition (C: drive) of the internal SATA HDD to a separate logical drive on that internal HDD, but when I try to backup the C: drive to an external USB3 drive the backup starts, creates two 4.7Gb files (out of a usual 6 files in the set) on the external drive  and then fails.  Fails HARD - usually I need to completely remove power (mostly by removing the battery) and do a cold boot to get control back.  The failure seems to occur when the software thinks the usb drive has disconnected. The softwareThe TIH application is a 32bit item that works fine on a 32bit windows 7 platform (desktop and laptop) both using external usb3 drives as the target.  Those machines however only only 4gb RAM installed. Other software - eg windows explorer and demanding video editing programs - work fine using data on the external usb drive. Pavilion hardwareA member (joey) on the Acronis forum has reported a case where a specific combination - windows 7 x64, more than 4Gb RAM and the nvidia EHCI chipset - caused his Pavilion a6403 system to malfunction using an external usb3 drive with this combination. Microsoft issued a specific hotfix for this - see the Kb article here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976972which Joey reports as correcting the problem. The questionMy notebook and Joey's are members of the HP pavilion family.  Both use the same windows 7 x64 OS, and have more than 4Gb RAM.  Does my g6-2002 use the same nvidia EHCI usb controller chipsets as the a6403?  In short, could his problem and mine be the same one? Thanks, Davidk10

    Those few need extra drivers.
As they are USB3.0 ports: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2025
Yea as I stated earlier, after installing these drivers all the usb ports stopped working in the current windows 7 install.

  • Portege R700-17Z bios not recognising USB devices

    Hi,
I'm after some advice about a problem I'm having with my R700, I can't get the laptop to recognise USB hard drives at the boot stage. I'm trying to use Acronis to create an image as I have 40 of these laptops.
The USB CD rom drive is recognised, and so is a Corsair USB pen (which unfortunately isn't big enough), but I have three USB hard drives (a Freecom Tough Drive, Buffalo MiniStation and a Western Digital Passport) and none of them are recognised by the BIOS. USB legacy emulation is enabled.
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks, Karen

In the past many people have noticed the same problem. External HDD cannot be used as bootable device. Paolo is right, you can use USB stick, USB optical disc drives or old USB floppy disc drives.
In my opinion you should create recovery DVD using Acronis and use this disc for OS installation.

Do you overclock?  Use corecenter?  Flash bios recently?  Could be bios corruption....as I recall Murdok saying loss of usb can be an early sign of it.   Consider c-mos reset (carefully with power cord removed during whole process) and possible floppy flash to last good working bios.  Don't know yet, depends on your answers to those questions.  Good luck.
EDIT- By the way, do you have Ghost or Acronis installed to bring your earlier XP install back?
I do overclock but it has been running at 14x200=2800 (2600 stock) for over a year with good temps.
Do not use corecenter, not flashed the bios in months. I did a cmos reset thinking that might be a reason but still have the same problem.
The USB ports are working fine in bios, just windows doesnt load any drivers for them.
And I dont have ghost or acronis installed :O(

  • [SOLVED] can't boot from ssd after "reset" from recovery usb flash drive

I have a Twist s230u with the original Hitachi 500GB hdd, running Windows 8.1.  I want to replace the Hitachi 500GB hdd in my Twist s230u with a PNY 240GB SSD that i've purchased.
While running Windows from the Hitachi HDD drive I followed the "create a recovery drive" procedure to create a recovery usb.  Then I removed the Hitachi HDD from the s230u and installed the PNY 240 SSD in its place.  I booted the s230u from the recovery flash drive that I made.  I selected the "Reset Your PC" option and then the option to wipe all partition/files.  After the Reset completes, I try booting from the SSD but am unable to do so.  I just go back to the F12 boot menu.
I put the SSD in a drive dock attached to another computer.  Disk Management shows the partitions as follows -
I've looked at the partitions on the SSD after the Reset - Disk Management console shows a 1000 MB Recovery partition, a 260MB EFI System partition, and a 221GB primary partition with volume label Windows8_OS.  It is not marked as Boot, Page File, or Crash Dump.
Diskpart shows an an additional 128MB Reserved partition between the EFI partition and the primary partition.
I do notice that the 10.6 Lenovo Recovery partition is not present - but I did make sure that I included that partition on the recovery key - though the files on the recovery key only use 8.03 GB for some reason.  Made the key on two different flash media.
Diskpart also shows the following for the SSD:
    DISKPART> attributes disk
    Current Read-only State : No
    Read-only : No
    Boot Disk : No
    Pagefile Disk : No
    Hibernation File Disk : No
    Crashdump Disk : No
    Clustered Disk : No
(It also looks like this when I run DISKPART from the recovery media with the SSD inside the internal drive bay of the s230u.)
When I did the Reset on the SSD in the s230u, and when I tried to boot from it - I had the Secure Boot disabled, the "Legacy Boot first" option set, etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to boot Windows 8.1 from this SSD in the s230u?  I've been working on this for a couple of days.
(I also tried cloning the HDD to the SDD using Minitool Partition Wizard, Macrium Reflect, Clonezilla, Acronis, etc - the SSD wouldn't boot after those clone operations either, and I thought maybe I'd have better luck with a reinstall from the USB recovery media.
(I also tried installing from a Windows 8 iso I burned to a DVD.  I got a product id mismatch message when I tried to install from that, and I was not allowed to proceed.)

well, I seem to have solved my own problem.  Maybe someone will learn from my mistakes.
I went into System Setup, went to the Startup tab, and changed the boot setting from "Both" to "UEFI Only".  After doing this I booted from my USB recovery drive, and Reset the PC.  After the Reset, I booted the s230u from the ssd, and I booted into a fresh Windows 8 installation.
It seems that the Reset operation could not work properly while the boot setting was "Both" (UEFI and Legacy) and "Legacy First."
I got a clue when I looked at the contents of the EFI System Partition and there was nothing there except a Temp folder. The EFI System Partition had not been properly written by the Reset operation.  I got some helpful hints on how to see the contents of the EFI System Partition here - http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2013/12/how-to-repair-the-efi-bootloader-in-windows-8/#.U-Qz2_ldW7q
I've also buggered up my original HDD now, so that it won't boot to Windows now.  Now to fix that!

  • Qosmio G10 - Problem booting from ISO CD for Acronis Rescue disk

Hi, I use Acronis TrueImage to make backups of my G10's hard drive. I need to be able to boot from the Acronis Rescue Media ISO CD that I have created. I intercept the boot by pressing F12 and change the boot priority to CD. It then says something like "Trying to establish Link", then "Media failure, Check cable" and then continues to boot up into XP. The burn of the ISO CD seems to have gone ok. My G10 still has the original BIOS v1.0. Is this the problem or should I upgrade the BIOS. Any ideas would very much appreciated. Thanks for reading this post.

    Hi,
thanks for the replies so far. You were right it was a problem with the rescue CD. Although the software writing the CD said it finished successfully it hadnt.
I cleaned the CD laser lens and removed a hair that was floating around inside the CD drive and then re-burnt a CD using the Acronis software. This time when I view the CD from My Computer/CD/Properties I could actually see files that were on the CD. Before it just said D: inaccessible. So then I tried to boot from the CD and this time it went into Acronis Linux system as expected but when I clicked Acronis full system option it now gets an error as it does not recognize my external drive where the backup is.
The external drive is a Transend Storejet 2.5 80 gb partitioned with NTFS. I'm going to try to write the log to a USB flash card and seen it to acronis to see if they know what the problem is. Possibly the Linux drivers for this drive need updating g or are not even present. I'll keep you posted just incase anyone else gets this problem. Anyway, thanks to all that have replied so far as your comments definitely helped.
Any other ideas or advice is gratefully accepted. Cheers guys.

  • Restoring to SSD from USB drive with no HD

My Acronis cloning software refuses to work, and they refuse to help, so I'm trying to make my solid state drive the bootable device by making a system restore image on a USB external drive, and booting to a system repair DVD. I can't make the DVD disk boot! And I can't make recovery manager start with F11 despite it saying it will on the lower right screen.
I get an error "This version of system Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair" I just made it from the computer I'm trying to repair! And if the hard drive is unplugged, how dies it know what version I'm trying to repair?

    Hello @davidstreb,
I understand that you are not able to enable a system recovery from the RECOVERY Partition on your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you!
To recover your system, I recommend acquiring new recovery media by following the steps in this document on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive. Once obtained, you can recover your operating system by following this resource on Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8).

He probado los siguientes supuestos:
    ¡Resuelto!
    Ir a solución.

Solucionado.

  • Restoring Sol10 using whole disk backup package (Acronis)

Anyone ever tried backing up the disk that Sol 10 is installed on
using a whole disk backup package?
I've tried doing it using Acronis backup which allows you to boot from
CD, and backup to USB hard drive. Anyway, it seemed to work when I
    restored it.
Only problem is when the machine now boots it seems to run some sort
of Acronis pre-boot and then GRUB appears on the screen but then it
    hangs.
Any ideas at all? I'm just wondering if just the boot sector/bit needs
    to be fixed?

Sounds like either the device links are incorrect, or that it got installed onto a different partition after the recover.
If you haven't already, you could try and boot to failsafe (or from CD/network), mount the root-disk under /a and run devfsadm -R /a .
Never tried acronis, so i don't know exactly how it functions.
