Hp Pavilian ZD8000 laptop

I have a Pavilian ZD8000 laptop, recently it began to overheat and switch off. I hoovered  the ports and fans this helped to stop the build up of dust internally. However I used it yesterday for a few hours and heard the fans screaming away, it went off. I tried to restart it after an initial cool down but it tries to power up gets so far but nothing on screen. After about 4 seconds it clicks and goes off and keeps doing it in a loop which can only be stopped by removing power lead and battery. I noticed that the left fan spins then the right one but the center one doesn't which I believe is the CPU fan?? Could this be a fan failure and it switches off to protect CPU?? Or is it normal for the center fan to be idle during boot up? Any advice on this would be a big help I recently upgraded the ram to 2gig and it were a lot better but did get very hot.

  • Possible to use ACD 30" with a PC Laptop?

    Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to hook up a PC laptop to the ACD 30" display? I am thinking about buying an HP Pavilion ZD8000 laptop for work. I have the ACD 30" display at home. It would be terrific if I could work at home on my ACD 30" display from my PC laptop.
I know I would need a Dual DVI video card but which one? Would I need to get some kind of switch box so I wouldn't have to always be unplugging my PowerMac G5?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Larry

I don't think there are any PC laptops that support dual like DVI. With laptops, you can't change the video card anyway.

  • Audigy NX Multiple Instances in Device Mana

Since I first installed the Audigy NX, I've had a problem with Device Manager having multiple instances of both the SB and the Composite USB device. It seems like it's associated with the SBUSBdll.Dll at XP Boottime that re-enumerates the Sound Card. Not a major issue, but everytime it gets redetected it uses the default values (Sample Rates, Volume mixer settings).
Has anyone else seen this type of behavior ? I'm tempted to take the SBUSBdll.Dll out of Startup and see if I can keep just the "Single" Audigy NX in my Device Table.
Usually, I'll have two instances, an acti've and a "Phantom". Last time I checked, I had 4 instances of each in Device Manager. All System/Drivers are updated and NX Firmware is latest available.
    Thanks -

I have a problem loading ASIO drivers with my Audigy 2 NX / USB sound card.My PC is a HP Pavillion ZD8000 laptop, with 52Mb RAM and a 60GB dri've,
    Windows XP home.
I am trying to select the Creative ASIO driver from within the Cubase LE VSTi multitrack setup dialogue.
I went into the VST/device setup and sure enough there was the creative
ASIO driver in the drop-down. However, when I try to select it it says
that the driver could not be loaded. I have run the update mechanism
from the Creative site and it has updated all my drivers, so I have the
    latest ones installed.
Does anybody know if there is anything else I need to setup to allow me
    select the Creative ASIO driver?
My version of Cubase LE is .07...
    Thanks.
Is ASIO on NX 'locked' to 6-bit/48 kHz or is there also 24-bit/96 kHz resolution available?
Try to set driver bit-depth to 6 and samplerate to 48 kHz on Cubase.
Have you tried USB-ASIO drivers? There is a demo available.
Another driver(s) to try out are Asio4All and Asio2KS. These are WDM/KS 'wrappers' but should work with low latencies too (as required on recording).

Hi, I have an HP Pavilian DV7 laptop, and I wanted to know how to lock the Funtion key. I have seen in other websites that they say to simply hold it, hit fn + num lock, fn + F11, and fn + scroll lock, but none of those work for me. Can someone please help me?

  • Computer crashes after cd is burned

I have iTunes installed on my Windows XP computer. For some odd reason when I burn a playlist to a disc, my computer will come up with a blue screen soon afterwards telling me that Windows had an error and that a physical memory dump was beginning. I've had iTunes versions and have upgraded regularly. I just upgraded to 5.0 hoping that the problem would be resolved. It is not. Now, the cd that I burn works fine everytime. I've read other posts saying that the cd didn't burn. I can burn cd's, I just have to reset my computer everytime. When it does restart Windows tells me that it just recovered from a "fatal error" so I send an error report and Windows tells me that it is a driver error, but it doesn't know which one. I've really enjoyed iTunes, but hate that this happens. Please help! Thanks
    Jonathan

I have the same problem. I have a brand new HP Pavillion ZD8000 laptop that is fully loaded and it has been doing it since I got it back in March. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that Roxio and Sonic are installed. I have not removed either yet, but I am thinking about it. I find it strange that disk finishes and as it spins down the error pops every fracking time. I have no problem burning disc after disk with Roxio to make my audio discs.

  • IPod 5G Movie Length Limit?

    Greetings,
I had earlier ripped The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (extended edition) onto my iPod 5G as two separate MP4 files (since it came on two DVDs).
However, I didn't like having one movie broken up as two files. So I converted the ripped ISOs to two MPEGs, and used MPEG Video Wizard to merge them together (I used this because I wanted the ending of the audio track of "Part1" to flow into the beginning of "Part2" - making a seamless transition).
    The resulting 4h23m06s MPEG2 w/2-chan AC3 video is 9.15GB in size.
I used Videora iPod Converter to convert the movie into an H.264 320x144 768kbps widescreen video (cropped 60 pixels from the top and bottom of the original MPG - creating no black borders and maintaining the aspect ratio) with 128kbps 44KHz audio. Since it's only going to be viewed on the iPod, I wanted to keep the file size down and keep the good quality.
Now, I did a few tests. I first converted the original merged MPG file into a 3-minute sample, then loaded it up in iTunes. I went through without a problem. The video synched to the iPod with no problem.
Then I imported the full 4+ hour H.264 movie into iTunes. No problem there. But when I tried to sync it to the iPod, it got rejected ("iPod doesn't support...." yadda yadda).
So, not giving up, I made a 1h58m sample from the original merged MPG file, and converted that to an H.264 video (using the same Videora profile as before - it never changed). That converted file imported into iTunes and synched to the iPod with no problems.
All three videos were created with the same Videora profile, and all play in Quicktime and iTunes. Only the full-length movie will not sync to the iPod. I can only conclude that the iPod does not like videos after a certain length.
Also, I can't think that the file size is a problem. The 3-minute sample is 20MB, the 2-hour sample is 750MB, and the full-length movie is 1.7GB (not bad for a 4+ hour movie). I did a manual check, and the full movie's video bitrate is not quite 768kpbs.
Has anyone else seen this? Any advice? I have a beautifully edited and merged movie (that I spent some time to make perfect). And now the iPod won't love it appropriately. How rude of it to reject a movie that won 11 Oscars!
    Cheers,
    Keirmeister

This "long clip-short clip" problem is actually quite common and depends on both the content of your movie and the particular software used to encode it. Some applications use a "loose" encoding approach while others uses a "tight" one. Basically we are talking about how quickly the encoder responds to changes in the movie content and how well it modifies encoding to adjust for these changes. The longer a movie is, the more likely that sooner or later it will contain segments (dark scenes, rapid action on a compex background, etc.) the will cause your "peak transient" data rate to climb above the maximum allowed by the iPod. Clipping a segment to see if it will load on the iPod is only helpful if you can locate actual segmet causing the problem.
There are basically two strategies (three if you include changing encoders) you can apply to correct the situation. One is to switch from a multipass mode to a single pass and more or less keep the current data rate you are using. The single pass option in most allplications tends to "clip" these transient peaks meaning you do lose a bit of quality during those scenes. (I.e., you are trading a variable data rate for a more fixed one which has variable quality). The other strategy is to keep the multipass mode, but lower your target data rate. In this case, you are keeping a constant quality strategy but lowering the overall average data rate in the hope that this will provide enough "headroom" for your movie so it will not "peak" above the iPod's limit and will, thus, load/sync properly.

  • Docking Station Compatability

I was just given a XB2000 docking station and I have a HP ZD8000 laptop but they don't connect to each other and I was wondering if there is an adapter that would make that possible?

I need an adapter for my xb2000 docking station as I upgraded my laptop.  Newer laptop has a type "3" port and older docking station has type "2" port connection.  I see some folks selling adapters for old laptops to newer docking stations, but I need the opposite.

  • Tuner problems since digital conversion

I have a ZD8000 laptop with Window XP Media Center 2005 and an external HP dual tuner. Since the over the air conversion to digital in June I have been unable to tune to any single digit channel 1,2,3...9. All other channels work fine. I have Comcast Digital (Flint Michigan) with individual set top boxes for both tuners and didn't expect the conversion to impact me. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried reconfiguring Media Center and reloading the HP tuner drivers with no success. I really don't want to invest in any additional hardware. Any ideas?

  • ITunes clears "My Music" Registry value

I have just tried to install iTunes (7.0.2.16) on my Wife's 2 PC's (Desktop w/XP Pro & Laptop w/XP Home both running Avast Anti Virus).
When I try to run iTunes, and I agree to the SLA then I get the "The folder iTunes cannot be created ....." dialog.
I then go to regedit, and find that the registry key which tells Windows where the folder "My Music" is has been cleared, I re-enter the data and restart windows, checking with regedit that the key is still intact, then attempt to start iTunes again, and get the error again, then recheck the registry only to find that the key has been cleared again.
This happens on both PC's & also with an earlier (6, point not known) version of iTunes.
    Can anybody help me?

It appears that there are two registry keys which store the location of Windows Special folders:
    HKEYCURRENTUSER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folders
    and
    HKEYCURRENTUSER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User Shell Folders
I was only editing the first key.
The situation arose when I used the Microsoft XP Powertoy TweakUI to change the special folder location to a Ximeta NetDisk external drive, but have since moved it to a dedicated FreeBSD based file server, but the most recent version of TweakUI has removed the option to change the "My Music" location forcing me to enter the registry myself.

  • Calibrating monitor and settings

    Hi all,
Well just received my brand new lenovo l220x monitor to add to my hp zd8000 laptop. I got this monitor primarily for photo editing and am running XP.
Now I am trying to calibrate with spyder2 (says spyderpro 2.2 in properties) and wondering if the monitor has RGB Sliders?
I know it has Kelvin Presets but can't work out it they are indeed rgb sliders or not.
Not sure if anyone has the same sort of package and calibrates also but if you do I would love some pointers/tuition on the subject.
I have calibrated my laptop screen in the past but it is so basic and doesn't have all the controls on the lenovo so that is where I am becoming unstuck!!!
I read somewhere that this monitor doesn't have backscreen lighting either?
Sorry for all the dumbass newbie questions, just like my colours to be spot on so any and help gratefully appreciated.
    Cheers, crackennz

This is a very advanced subject which ought to "just work" a little more often than it does. I suggest you try the Adobe User Forums, both for Photoshop and for Color Management. This topic can go on for years. Your choice of Gamma 2.2 & D65 White point is considered professional. That leaves the Color Management nightmare maze in between Photoshop, Apple & Epson. Good luck!

  • Laptop battery replacent needed for ZD8000

I have a HP ZD8000 and need to buy a replacement battery. Unfortunately, the battery does not fall under the HP battery recall program and HP does not have a direct replacement for it listed on their site. Not sure how that one works. They must be outsourcing.
Anyhow, I've never had to purchase a replacment battery and would like get recomendations for a reputable company that makes a quality replacement. It's a 14.8V 6600mAHr Li-ion battery.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

That is a bit older laptop and I have found eBay to be a generally reliable source of laptop batteries for older systems. There are three types of batteries sold there: "knock-offs" which are generally made in China, old stock of "new" genuine HP batteries, and used batteries. Except for very old units for which there is no choice I stay away from used. Knock-offs have some risk of defects but they are cheaper and actually can hold a better charge than real batteries since the manufacturers use current model cells. Old stock of genuine batteries cost more, but are going to be fully compatible. Batteries do lose some strength just sitting on the shelf, however. Find an eBay seller with very high positive feedback, of which there are many who sell batteries for laptops. Keep in mind that shipping from China can take two weeks, so try to look for one being shipped from the U.S.
    $30 knock-off
    $35 used
    $43 "new"
The zd8000 battery is the same guts as several other models like the zv5000, etc. You may have to swap out the plastic cover plate on the bottom of the battery. It might be glued in place so be persistent.
