HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC touch pad glitching frequently

HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC, windows 8.1, 8GB ram (7.89 usable), 64 bit os, 1.80 GHz intel core i3 processor
I got my new laptop that I bought recently (3-4 weeks, give or take) and I've noticed that my touch pad us acting up OFTEN. Sometimes it brings up the charms bar and randomly opens an option while other times it just straight up freezes. I can tell that it is the touch pad freezing and not the pc because I can still use the keyboard to do things on my laptop and I use a usb mouse that always works without fail.
I have installed quite a few things but I have done frequent full system scans using norton internet security and it has "removed" 1 virus so far. I haven't done a malware scan but I'm getting to it right now.
My question is has a spirit possessed my laptop or is my touchpad broken?

I will be happy to help with the TouchPad freezing. I don't think that you need to call the Ghostbusters quite yet. Is it only freezing when you try access Charms Bar or does it freeze at other times? Start by reinstalling your Synaptics TouchPad Driver.

I have a 3 week old HP Pavilion 17 Notebook that was working fine but last night the touch pad stopped functioning and I have tried tapping two times in the top left corner and checking under setting for the mouse functions but nada.  There is no orange light, or any other light that I can see other than the white power light, as mentioned in other posts.  Any fixes?

I have read your post on how the touchpad on your notebook computer is not functioning recently, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose this issue, I recommend following this document on Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8). This should help restore the touchpad to working order.
If the issue continues, I suggest returning your computer back to an earlier restore point before the touchpad began acting up. This can be done by following this resource on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • HP Pavilion 15-p042ax Notebook PC - touch screen

HP Pavilion 15-p042ax Notebook PC - can the HD  screen be touch screen active?

    Hi,
I can't find its specs from the following link:
         http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=au&dlc=en&lc=en&product=7393295
but normally the Envy 15 has touchscreen not for the Pavilion 15 series. Before buying a machine, you need to do a research, from Pavilion to Envy with TS may only cost you a bit more. Updrading it now may cost you up to 4 times that amount.
    Regards.

  • HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC key pad not working

HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC keypad do not work.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu - if it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • Touch Pad of Satellite P50-A-M13 doesn't work anymore - Solution

    Hello *,
before someone should have the same problem, I wanted to share my problem and my solution here:
    Information about my system:
I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional and Scientific Linux 6.5 in Dual Boot on my Toshiba Satellite P50-A-M13.
    _*Problem:*_
The Touch Pad suddenly doesn't work below Windows 8.1 Professional anymore, the mouse pointer vanishes after a reboot. You can't deactivate/activate the Touch Pad with the F5 key (without pressing the FN-button) anymore. The white LED of the Touch Pad doesn't work anymore. Another operating system (in my case: Scientific Linux) in Dual Boot doesn't recognize the Touch Pad anymore after a reboot, too. So it isn't working below the other operating system anymore, too. It looks like a hardware defect since it affects more than one operating system.
    _*Additional information:*_
If you attach an external USB mouse to your Toshiba notebook, the Touch Pad will work again, you can activate/deactivate the Touch Pad via the F5 key (without pressing the FN-button) below Windows 8.1 again, but the white LED of the Touch Pad still doesn't work and doesn't turn off or on. Same below another operating system in Dual Boot. The BIOS doesn't offer a feature that you can activate or deactivate the Touch Pad there.
    Reason:
I had the problem that the feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1 Professional was activated. The driver for the Synaptic Touch Pad got replaced by a Microsoft driver in the background automatically.
    _*Solution:*_
_Keep the external USB mouse attached and start Windows 8.1 if it isn't started already. Then deactivate feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1. Then reinstall the Synaptic Touch Pad driver from the download page of Toshiba website again. Then reboot Windows. The Touch Pad should work then again. And never, never activate the feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1 again!_
    Many thanks, Jana

    Thanks Jana for this post!
I also noticed that sometimes Windows updates could break the driver functionality...

    Hi Sy,

  • HP Pavilion Volume Touch-Pad NOT WORKING | NO SOUND HELP

HP Pavilion Volume Touch-Pad NOT WORKING
I have an HP Pavilion dv3t - 2000, Windows Vista computer.
SOMEONE DID ALREADY HELP ME HERE WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY STOPPED RESPONDING | Please check that link out!
The volume touchpad above the keyboard is not working properly (There is no sound coming out of the speakers or the headphone jack) , If you touch the megaphone part of the touchpad above the keyboard then it stays red, however the sound icon on the taskbar changes from mute to unmuted when you touch the red megaphone. The volume slider on the touchpad works suprisingly.
I don't know if I uninstalled something or what but I need this problem fixed!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and remove the battery.
Follow the procedure detailed on Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC battery.  Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Leave the notebook for 10 minutes and then re-insert the RTC battery, re-assemble and replace the cover, insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
If you still have no audio and the installer you downloaded previously still doesn't detect the Hardware, it would start to look like a Hardware failure, but to try and rule out any further software cause, try the following.
Follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if this OS will run.  The 'Try it' option runs the OS from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  If this runs Ok ( it will be slow running from a CD ) and you still have no audio output, this would tend to confirm a Hardware issue.

  • Awkward touch-pad on notebook

I have an HP Pavilion DV7 notebook with the touch-pad mouse and integrated buttons. From what I can see, the buttons are integrated within the touch-sensitive area of the touch pad, so when I position the mouse to where I want it and place my finger on the left touch-pad button, the on-screen cursor moves away from where I placed it. I have to be very careful how I press the left or right touch-pad mouse buttons so that the on-screen cursor does not move which is VERY annoying.
Is there anyway to change this behaviour so that the mouse/touch-pad buttons are NOT considered part of the tracking mechanism? Thanks.

  • Changing touch-pad sensitivity on on HP Pavilion dv7

    Hi,
I'm having issues with the sensativity of my touchpad, which seemed to start occuring after a windows update about a week ago. My touchpad is now ultra sensative, and I only need to glance a hand over it whilst typing and either the cursor will move and reposition itself in a random part of the text, or things will accidentally be opened etc etc. I have also noticed that the left and right click buttoms at the base of the touchpad have now swapped in functions as well, ie left click now acts as the right click, and vice versa (this also happened to the mouse after the update, but that was able to be fixed).
I have gone into the 'Control Panel' and searched under the 'Mouse' - but there are no device setting options nor anything to deal with a touch-pad issue.
I noticed this is a problem with a few other users, which has been solved by downloading the latest Synatpics software. However I'm not too sure that my laptop is using this software - I can't find 'Synaptics' under my 'Programs and Features'.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! The details of my laptop are as follows -
    HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
    Product number: XB100UA#ABA
    64 bit
    Windows 7

    Hi,
Synaptics is listed as the driver software for your notebook, so first of all, try downloading and installing the latest version of this on the link below.
    Synaptics Driver Installer.
If this does install Ok, restart the notebook and then see if you now have the options to configure the device as shown in the document Here.
