HP Pavilion 15 notebook : keyboard problem

hi,
Product Name:HP Pavilion 15 notebook
Operating  system: windows 8
I am having trouble with my laptop's keyboard. It started as a problem with both the Shift keys i.e. whenever I clicked on it , the keyboard typed either 'z' or 'q'  or 'zx' or 'qw'. Then after doing some surfing on the net , I tried some solutions but it resulted in the disabling of keys '1', 'w', 's' and 'x' instead of Shift keys. Shift keys are working perfectly now.I also tried uninstalling the drive but when I restart, the drive automatically comes back along with the problem. Its just been seven months since i bought the laptop, its still under Warranty but it would be helpful if an easier solution came along the way.

Hi,
First do a Hard Reset and check..it has fixed similar issue many times..

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2114sa keyboard problems

The keyboard for my laptop has been acting very wierdly. Most of the keys work fine but some ofthem do not bring up what they're supposed to.
For example, when I press the 'b' key, it brings up 'bgtv' and when I press the 'y' key, it brings up 'nhy'
I am falling behind with my university work because it takes me far too long to write with   the on-screen keyboard  so please help

99% of the time keyboard problems are caused by a worn and/or  dirty keyboard.
The only solution is to replace the keyboard.

Above are just some examples, HP made silver, black, copper etc colours.
Consider a wireless or wired USB keyboard if you're not inclined to replace your own. Usually it's cheaper to by an external one then it is to pay a shop to do it.
If you want I can help you to track down the correct one and install it.

  • HP Pavilion g4 Notebook Keyboard not working

    I own a HP Pavilion g4 1015dx Notebook PC.
Since the last few weeks my laptop was making a lot of noise and also was not performing well. So, I read an article in HP's website about cleaning the fan.
So, I disassembled my laptop and cleaned the fan. Then, I put together all the things as it was before(at least I think I did). Then I turned on the laptop and the keyboard was not working. I checked the device manager and it showed 'keyboard wroking properly'. So, once again I disassembled the laptop and I couldn't spot the problem. There's three plastic cable strips connected to the motherboard from the keyboard case. One runs to the power button and the other two run to the touchpad. So, I do not see any wires directly connected to the motherboard from the keyboard. In device manger, it shows the keyboard as PS/2.
I haven't lost any inner laptop parts and to the best of my knowledege I have kept the things as they were. Can anyone help me with this problem??
Yeah and one more thing... there was a BIOS update before me doing all these things.
    This question was solved.

never mind. I forgot to connect the keboard cable to the motherboard.

  • HP Pavilion g6-1219sv keyboard problem - kb types numbers and letters concurrently!

Hi. I have a problem with my notebook HP Pavilion g6-1219sv (product: A1Q32EA#B1A).
After of 1,5 year of correct functionality, the keyboard started a strange behavior:
    1) When I press a letter button, the keyboard prints a letter + a number. For instance, if I type the letter 'q', then appears in the monitor the string "q3". So, if I want to write "Hello" it will be written as "H3e3l2l2o" in the output.
    2) The up-down arrows keys seems like to be stucked (when i press the down arrow key, it's like the up arrow key is stucked somehow and i cant go down).
I thought that maybe there is a problem in Windows (any update, a faulty program, a virus) but the same behavior exists even in the HP Advanced System Diagnostics v3.7.1.0 when I pressing the F2 key at the start of booting (I can't go down to the list to select for example "BIOS Management")...
How can i fix that problem? Where do you think this problem is due?
    Thanks

That is the support from Hewlett Packard for its customers?? No one cares?
Terrible support, I am totally dissapointed.
I will NEVER buy any HP device again.

  • Hp pavilion dv7-4273us keyboard problem

On my HP Pavilion DV7-4273us and has Win7 Home Pre, my keyboard has turned into one big shortcut board.  While typing if I press "E" My Computer pops up, Space bar all windows close as if in peek mode, "L" locks the computer, ect... I have used Windows Update to see if the driver was out of date, Device Manager and uninstaled it and reinstalled it, looked through the Ease of Access but nothing seems to be working.  If I restart it might work fine for 2 minutes or so.  What can I do?

Went to another computer and opened Ease of Access Center and looked at every check box and did the same and worked for a little bit than back to where it was.  I think I have narrowed it down to the windows key.

  • Pavilion dv7 (new) Keyboard Problems

3/15/11    I have a brand new dv7-4287, purchased thru Sam's Club.  It is less than ten days old, and am having ALL of the same problems many others have described:  spacebar is the WORST, but shift keys and other keys do it sporadically, too.  Spent 1hr with a very helpful Tech Support guy last night, uninstalling BIOS and Touchpad drivers, then dowloading and reinstalling new drivers for both.  T.S. guy was awesome, not his fault, but the reinstalls did NOT solve my problems at all.  Spacebar seems to have big "dead" areas where no matter how many times I strike it, it won't advance the cursor.  Other areas it works pretty well.  My right shift key only works if I am very careful to hold it down for a second before typing the letter that I want in Caps.  The left shift key works, then doesn't work, then works..... on and off.   Some other keys work with very little stroke pressure, and some need to be hit hard.  What is annoying is that in this $1,1000 computer there is NO consistency to the keyboard and touchpad problems.   The store demo seemed to work fine, but maybe I didn't really give it a thorough test and would have noticed if I had typed more and cruised around Win7 less.   This is definitely a mechanical issue, not a software driver issue.   What are my options, other than to return it for another one or a refund? Also am wondering how long it will be before my keys start to wear and become unreadable as others have mentioned, or just fall off altogether.  REALLY disappointed in HP quality out of the box.

    Hi,
You may return it to the shop and ask for a refund.

  • Some keys on my pavilion dv7 notebook keyboard not working

For a while now my backspace key and a host of other keys distributed across the keyboard, some on the main alphanumeric key area and others on the numeric key area, are not working. Even after reinstalling windows it's still the same. I tried removing the battery, pressing the power button for about 15seconds then replacing the battery cuz I heard it would reset the motherboard, but nothing changed. Please what else can I try.

Next step is to replace the keyboard. Keyboards tend not to be very expensive and replacement on your model is not too difficult. If you want to try it we need to know the country you live in to find the part.

    Hi Prajeesh,
I see that you are having some problems with the “t” key on your keyboard. I will be happy to help you with this. • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC - Keyboard not working

HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC - Keyboard not working
My Windows 8 - 64 bit  laptop keyboard stopped working. I tried to uninstall and reinstall as explained in the support pages. but doesn't seem to work.  Is it dead?   what is the solution.  Please help
    Thank you

    Hi,
While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Note:  If the keyboard doesn't work when trying to access or navigate the Bios Menu, then this is probably a hardware fault.
    Regards,

  • HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC keyboard malfunction

    good afternoon,
I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC. As of (I think) yesterday, certain keys on my keyboard have stopped working like the six on both the number pad and number row, the five on the number row, the backslash (i think that's what it's called; right under the backspace), and the hyphen next to the +/=.
As far as I know nothing had been spilled on it and no sticky fingers have been touching it. No error messages have appeared. Is there a way to fix the problem without dismantling the entire keyboard? If not, how do I dismantle it?!
    Thanks

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Battery Problem

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Windows Vista 64-bit, I bought it less than 2 months ago.  Yesterday I fogot my charging cable so I ran my battery all the way out.  Then this morning after charging I turned on my laptop and it gave me a message about the internal battery being weak.  I tested it with the HP Support Assistant and got this message:
"The battery is functioning correclty, but due to normal aging of the battery, the battery life between charges has reached a point where your battery is no longer useful.  The battery may be covered by your HP Warrant.  Please contact HP."
What happened to my battery and is there a way to fix it without getting a new one (highly unlikely but I have to ask..)?  I'm hoping this problem is under warrenty because I've only had my laptop for less than two months and the battery is already aged?
    Thanks for your help!

Hi, try to download the latest HPSA and test the battery again, if it still shows the same problem, contact local support center to get the battery replaced.
