HP Pavilion 15-p042ax Notebook PC - touch screen

HP Pavilion 15-p042ax Notebook PC - can the HD  screen be touch screen active?

Hi,
I can't find its specs from the following link:
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=au&dlc=en&lc=en&product=7393295
but normally the Envy 15 has touchscreen not for the Pavilion 15 series. Before buying a machine, you need to do a research, from Pavilion to Envy with TS may only cost you a bit more. Updrading it now may cost you up to 4 times that amount.
Regards.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n241ca TouchSmart Notebook PC touch screen not working

I got this Notebook a couple of months ago at The Source in Alberta Canada. Worked fine for a week or so and then the touch screen began to stop working intermittently.
Once or twice it seemed that cleaning the (not dirty) screen helped but not anymore.
It has just stopped working completely for the past month or so.
I've tried glass cleaner on a napkin and on a microfiber cloth..all the way to the edges and nothing.
I've run all the troubleshooters, driver updates...everything is up to date and working properly or so they say.
    HELP?????????
    Thanks in advance
    This question was solved.

Thanks for the help. Wish I had asked sooner.
But...I went to the site's support chat and spoke to an HP service rep. He remotely diagnosed and tried to get mmy touch screen up and running but nothing would work. Ended up wiping my machine and trying from scratch. Still nothing.
My computer will be picked-up by UPS in a couple of days for a ride to the nearest service center. Evidently I'm having hardware problems.
So, my computer isnt working properly BUT HP's customer service sure is.
Everyone I spoke to there was just awesome and SO happy to help. Sounds like I'm being sarcastic but I'm NOT. First day was Gio(sp?) and yesterday it was Cory I believe the fellow's name was.
I'm in Canada, they are in the Philipines.
These guys were both so friendly and we chatted and laughed while we worked on my machine.
    They felt like old friends.
    Yesterday with Cory was hilarious.
He asks a few questions..in his professional voice...I let him know that the system restore didnt help and after a couple more questions he asked for my shipping address so that my notebook could be picked-up.  I spell-out my street address and name of course...I tell him the Town, then the province (Alberta) and dude BUSTS-OUT a "CANADA!!!!!  you're in CANADA!!!"   YES! Yes I AM in Canada!!!
You see, here in Canada and especially in Alberta (80% of all the NEW jobs in Canada are created in ALBERTA) there is a SERIOUS labor shortage. We import a lot of workers and a LOT are Philipinos. Many are great friends of mine. I am a musician as are a LOT of Philipinos (they are kinda like Mexicans...somehow SO MANY of them are GREAT singers. Like I mean SCARY good singers...and I met and was good friends with a bunch of Philipino musicians back in the early/mid '90s called the Manilla Boys -Shout Out to Freddie and Oscar).  and so ...I feel a kind of connection to the Philipines and it's people and obviously, a lot of Philipinos love Canada and Canadians.
WHY the rave about the Philipines? Well yes...I got a little sidetracked BUT...my POINT is that Westerners whine and complain about having to deal with any company's Customer Service centers. Sometimes justifiably so. You know, a lot of times you call to ask about an item and you're speaking to people in India (also have many Indian friends...this is NOT a bashing) or China or somewhere where they TRY to help but the language barrier is difficult to overcome. Tempers flare. People on both ends of the line or internet get frustrated....you know how it goes.
BUT...with HP, and I spoke to three different CS reps at LEAST, EVERYONE was VERY helpful. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing. They were patient. They were HAPPY. They spoke PERFECT English.
Were we able to get my machine...my touchscreen working again? Nope :-(
WILL my machine be working again soon? I hope so. MAYBE...IF the service center it goes to employs Philipino techs lol.
Like I told Gio, this is the FIRST factory built, name brand computer I've bought in over 10 years. My FIRST one was an Emachines and it worked flawlessly for YEARS. I just grew out of it. Since then I have been buying from small outfits or I have pieced-together my own machines.
I'm SO glad I chose an HP machine this time.
I didnt even need to produce a receipt (which I have and would have been able to). Gio remotely logged-into my notebook and find all the info he needed.  There was one point where I said something like..."oh no. Well do you think maybe The Source has a replacement policy or something?" and Gio replied..."oh you don't have to worry about that. I see here that you have full warranty coverage (I did not purchase any extended warranties when I bought the notebook) until March of next year.
So again...my experience with HP's Customer Service was phenomenal EVERYtime I called or chatted with them. Gio performed every diagnostic test in the book. He uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. He troubleshot. He tried this and he tried that. He gave me GREAT instructions. We did a complete system restore.
Once that did not fix the problem they immediately sent me a UPS box to return my machine in. I didnt have to complain or argue or ask or demand. Once the restore didnt work THEIR next thing was to get my machine in for service.
Between you and me I'm hoping that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong and maybe they'll send me a NEW notebook and maybe it will be the next model UP!  Yeah yeah I know...wishful thinking. But hey..my Son's iPod broke down a couple years ago and Apple (whos CS was ALSO amazing...at least it was a couple years ago) sent him a replacement. The NEXT generation of iPod!!
My Wife's Samsung Note 2 started dropping..well not receiving calls. Samsung had her send it to the nearest service center. It worked fine for a day and then started not receiving calls again. Samsung graciously (kind of) said...ok this ONE TIME ONLY we will send it to a service center AGAIN.
They did and it dint work..again. Clearly they were just doing a hard factory reset...which my Wife had already tried a bunch of times. She kinda gave-up on Samsung and said...you know...I think I'm gonna go back to Apple. Their CS was SO much BETTER than Samsung's.
But the next day (like 2 weeks ago) she spoke to Telus, her cell provider and explained that her phone wasnt working and that she has been a loyal Telus customer for decades. That her monthly bill (for 3 phones..mine, hers and our Son's) is like almost $200 (yeah we live in an isolated place). She said that when her contracts are fulfilled she will be going with a different (cheaper) provider and to a different phone. Btw...all 3 of us currently own Samsung droid phones.
Welllll...Telus took the wheel and said...Don't worry m'aam.  There is no authorized service center in your town so just go back to where you purchased the Note2. We just called them and they are expecting you. They are ready to replace your phone. Just bring the Note2 in for a trade-in.
She goes to the store and they say...pick any new phone. It's on Telus.
They didnt have the S5 in stock but she prefers the larger notes anyway so she walked-out with a brand new Samsung Note3 :-)
The moral of the story is that these days most companies' Customer Service is VERY GOOD. HP is NO exception.
My HP hardware has some issues so I wouldnt be able to rate their products as EXCEPTIONAL but their CS? That is MORE than EXCEPTIONAL.
If YOU are in the market for a new computer, DONT HESITATE if an HP is in your sights. You are in GREAT hands with HP. I will recommend HP to EVERYONE.
My computer is not working properly. I will be without while it's away (it would be SUPER nice if they had a loaner policy but..hopefully turn-around time will be SHORT) but hopefully I wont be without for TOO long and who knows...MAYBE they will have to replace my whole notebook and if they do, maybe they'll upgrade me to the next model. Wishful thinking AGAIN I know but either way...I KNOW I'll have a properly working computer again before too long.
THANK YOU Hewlett Packard. And ESPECIALLY Thank You Gio!! And Cory too...AND the others whos names I dont recall because our time was very short.
I'm SO glad I chose HP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I dont think I've ever been THIS glad to have a broken product. Lol.
Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I think this thread (without THIS lengthy post) will be helpful to many people who have touchscreen problems in the future.  Let's just hope that "many people" wont NEED help and wont HAVE touchscreen issues.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC touch pad glitching frequently

HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC, windows 8.1, 8GB ram (7.89 usable), 64 bit os, 1.80 GHz intel core i3 processor
I got my new laptop that I bought recently (3-4 weeks, give or take) and I've noticed that my touch pad us acting up OFTEN. Sometimes it brings up the charms bar and randomly opens an option while other times it just straight up freezes. I can tell that it is the touch pad freezing and not the pc because I can still use the keyboard to do things on my laptop and I use a usb mouse that always works without fail.
I have installed quite a few things but I have done frequent full system scans using norton internet security and it has "removed" 1 virus so far. I haven't done a malware scan but I'm getting to it right now.
My question is has a spirit possessed my laptop or is my touchpad broken?

I will be happy to help with the TouchPad freezing. I don't think that you need to call the Ghostbusters quite yet. Is it only freezing when you try access Charms Bar or does it freeze at other times? Start by reinstalling your Synaptics TouchPad Driver.

  • HP pavilion g7-2293nr Notebook PC black screen

hello here is my issue, i got this laptop christmas of 2012 so my warranty has run out but have had no major problems, sadly 2 days ago i had turned my laptop off and it was working fine no crashes no blue screen or sudden shut downs but it turned off normally, later on in the day i turned my laptop back on and i was greeted with nothing but a black screen
1 yes i have turned it off and turned it back on
2 yes i tried closing the lid and opening it again
3 i tried taking out the battery and AC power cord and holding down the power button for 15-20 seconds
4 i have taken out the two rams and checked both slots and put them back in
5 yes i have connected to an external monitor and it shows up and works just fine
6 i have shined a bright light on the screen and no logo or anything shows up just black
also on a side note, im unsure if this might of caused it but i think it should be mentioned since it is near the screen,
before the black screen issue i recently had a situation where the left side of the laptop near the power button has suddenly disconnected and no it didnt suffer any prior damage i just adjusted the screen and it suddenly snapped, i believe the hinge needs to be repaired or replaced but i cant full describe the problem so ill post a picture

    http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/hanyou-ren/20140906_044229_zpsyecbzlgp.jpg
the more i open the screen the further that lifts up, as for the right side everything is fine only the left side has this issue, even so when i first had this problem the screen was working fine still, but my question is could this possibly be linked to and or cause this black screen problem? and if not then is there anything i can do to fix this problem on my own?
i'd like to try all possible options/fixes before i consider sending it off, i dont want to spend alot of money if i dont have to so if anybody got any other suggestions on a fix i would really appreciate it

Hello Xbox-one. I understand you are witnessing a BSOD on your Windows 8.1, and I will do my best to help you! Before I go into troubleshooting, I just want to break down the error you provided and explained the parts of it:
    - A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. This indicates that some portion of the video software/drivers failed. It could be the program you are using, or you may need to update your graphic drivers and chipset.
    - Problem Event Name: LiveKernalEvent. A kernal is the part of the OS that runs and controls basic services and commands. The error took place when a basic command was occurring.
    - Code 117. This error code indicates that an input/output call was not correct or valid, which is typical for graphics issues. It can also be referred to as an "invalid category" error.
    - aticfx64.dll, aticfx64.dll, aticfx64.dll, aticfx32, aticfx32, aticfx32, atiumd64.dll, atidxx64.dll, atidxx64.dll, atiumdag, atidxx32, atidxx32, atiumdva, atiumd6a.cap, and atitmm64.dll are the questionable files in the error that occurs. These are related to your graphics drivers.
    - It also mentions that Hybrid Graphics GPU and Power P-states are not supported. This could be because of conflict with the following: The OS, chipset, and current drivers.
Now that I have provided this information, I will list the troubleshooting I want you to do:
    - Update the graphics driver from this HP website.
    - Follow the troubleshooting steps in this Microsoft document. (Note, this is intended for Windows 7, but most of the steps are applicable on Windows 8.1)
For now, please try this troubleshooting and let me know the results. If the issue is not resolved, can you post back with the answers to these questions:
    - What OS did you upgrade to Windows 8.1 from?
    - Did the computer work properly before upgrading to Windows 8.1?
    - If you remove Windows 8.1, and reinstall the drivers for the OS, does the computer work?
Please respond when you can. Thank you for posting on the forums and have a great day!

    Hi,
I have U430 Touch Screen Hinge issue, but lenovo service agents are not responding even if I give them the reference of below forum. Can you please help me resolve this issue as the laptop is under warranty (bought on december 2014)and it was not damaged. It was used last night and then just closed and kept on the bed. When I returned and tried opening it, I had this hinge issue. Please help me get this issue resolve at once.

Hi, This is the third time I called them but they are persistent that it is not cover under warranty for U430T. I do understand that if it is an accidental damage then it will not be covered. But my point is, from my end, there was no damage on the laptop and simply closed it and tried opening it after a while caused it. Furthermore refering to the post link, it is mentioned by Amy Tuper that if it is under warranty and cause is not by damage contact support. It is also mentioned that Lenovo launched an investigation in which it was concluded that there was mount failure on this model. So, my question is, isn't there a possibility that this defect could have been the mount failure issue ? Last call, they state that it is just for U530T even when the post says it is for both U430T and U530T. People on the same post have posted that they got it repaired by Lenovo for free. I am not sure what to believe, the post posted by Lenovo or the support service ? Can you please escalate the issue as it is hampering my day to day work. Awaiting reply from your end.

None of the offerred solutions work, please see screen captures.
First Screen Capture: Computer does not recognize that a TouchScreen is an active device. [This indicates a driver is damaged and/or missing]
Second Screen Capture: There are no Tablet PC Settings available. [This confirms that the driver is missing]

  • How can I fix my touch screen on my HP Pavilion g6 Notebook?

Can anyone tell me how to reset the touch screen on my laptop. My brother dissabled it while he was setting it up for me. I recived this from my sister-in -law for Christmas in 2012 and it had the touch screen at that time.

If the brightness of the screen does not adjust automatically anymore, try these steps:
    Display doesn't adjust brightness automatically
The ambient light sensor brightens the display when using the iPhone in brightly lit environments, and dims the display in low light. To test this sensor, do the following:
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case. If there is a protective film on the display, remove the film.
Verify that the Auto-Brightness setting (Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper) is set to ON, and that the Brightness level is set near the middle of the slider.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen and then press the Sleep/Wake button to lock the iPhone.
In a bright environment, cover the top third of the iPhone to block the light, then press the Sleep/Wake button or the Home button to wake the phone. Slide the slider to unlock the phone.
Notice the brightness of the screen and application icons; they should be somewhat dimmed.
Remove the cover from the top of the display and in a few moments the display should get brighter.

Hi Slimon, I got the same issue as your prob that after the AUO firmware installed, then I ran over the internet to look for a solution. I tried tons of them but finally your way helps. Thank you! If the touchscreen of your laptop has been not working yet, you'd better try to erase the current one in the system, then re-install the firmware one more time. However, sorry I dont know how to erase it. You can probably create a new topic to post your question on this hp support forum and wish an upcoming answer helps. Good luck! Ray

    Hello @junk4are,
I understand that you are having issues with your HP Pavilion 23 Touchsmart Desktop PC's touchscreen and are wondering if you should install your drivers. I would certainly recommend that you do so. I would be happy to assist you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer as there are various versions of the HP Pavilion 23. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number I can provide you with accurate information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
