HP Pavilion 15-p073TX with Windows 8.1, FC 17 installed for dual booting.

I bought the laptop on 06/11/2014. I work in Fedora Core 17 platform. I installed FC 17 with inbuilt windows 8.1. After restarting FC working properly, but Windows 8.1 can not load. Can somebody help me resolving the problem, so that I can work with (both windows and fedora 17). Before this laptop, I used FC core with Win Vista home premium.

    Hi,
I belive that action OR f5 is for the backlit keyboard, not the touchpad. For the touchpad (my machine is also a dv7-70xx) you need to touch the switch (rapidly twice) which is on the left corner of the touchpad. The following image shows where is the light (yellow circle) and where is the swich (red rectangular):
    Hope this helps.

  • Pavilion dv5 - 1217AX with Windows 8 - multiple booting and crashing issues

I have a Pavilion dv5 - 1217AX with Windows 8 operating system. It was upgraded from Vista to windows 8 last year and it worked really very well for about 1 year. Here are the issues I am facing these days
    1. When powered on - Caps lock and Num lock LEDs keep flashing twice and the sequence keeps repeating - I checked the error code on some forums and it sounded like BIOS issue so I flashed the BIOS F38 again (SP46501) but it didn't help. I also thought it could be a memory issue so I removed the memory module and cleaned the slots and fixed the modules again but no luck. I also tried running the laptop using only one module, tried both the modules one by but no changes in error code. Then I thought it could be a toy bettery issue so replaced the toy batter that fits on the motherboard but no luck. I have also tried booting up removing the laptop battery pack but no luck.
So how does it boot now? - Once powered on I keep getting Caps lock Num lock LED flashing issues every time. Then I power off using power on/off button on laptop around 15 times or more then the laptop somehow boots up. There is no fixed pattern, sometimes it boots after 15 attempts, sometimes 50 attempts.
Whats happenes after booting? - Sometimes the screen goes completely blank without any error message on the screen. Sometimes Windows 8 crashes and laptop restarts, when it restarts I never see LED flashing issues (surprising). It crashes when I am watching some videos or playing some games, so looks like ATI Radeon driver issue (driver is 8.970.100.7000 for HD 3400 display card).
Let me know if there are any suggestion to fix the botting and crashing issues faced.

    Hi Expertit ,
At first sight ,seems to be a boot issiu.Did you thry this?
Booting into the Windows 8 setup, select “Repair your computer” in the bottom part of the window, then “Troubleshoot” and “Advanced options”. Here I was given a good reminder of another cool Windows 8 feature. If you have a restore point created you can go back to that working copy of the OS without losing your data.
So the first thing you will want to try is the Automatic Repair.
If that fixes your boot problem, you had it easy and go on to create a restore point for another time you are out of luck. If Windows is unable to fix your issue, read on.
Go back to the Advanced options and choose the Command Prompt. Going for the next easiest way to fix the problem, enter the following four commands into the prompt:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
After receiving a success confirmation. Close the CMD window and restart your PC.
If you are booted into Windows, excellent! If not, let us know , so we can try some more solutions.
2.If your video crashes , it is probably wrong Catalyst settings.Right click on screen , open Catalyst control settings , set it to high (Radeon) performance.
    Expecting your next post.

It could be a compatibility issue as well as Acrobat 8 is an older version.
Do you get any error message while registering for the product?

Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... • How to add another operating system for Dual boot in Windows 7 boot configuration

    Hi,
I have dell laptop with excellent configuration. On which i had windows 7 Home premium on C Drive and Windows server 2008 on D Drive.
Now i upgraded my Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. But after fresh installation of Win 7 Ultimate my dual boot screen has gone and Win 7 is getting start directly.
Now i want to add my Windows server 2008 again for dual boot which is still on D Drive.
Can anyone please tell me how to add windows 2008 boot option in boot configuration to active my dual boot options.
    Thanks

    1) Using bcdedit.exe /enum
To enable the computer to also boot Windows 7 you again use bcdedit.exe with the following command which will copy the current Windows
Boot Loader details for Windows Server 2008 to Windows 7.
     bcdedit.exe /copy
    {current} /d "Microsoft Windows 7"
     bcdedit.exe will
respond with something like the following.
    The
entry was successfully copied to {................................}.
    Using
bcdedit.exe /enum to again enumerate through the current entries within the BCD store you'll see the newly added entry.
Before you can use the newly created Windows boot loader configuration, you'll need to change the partition for Windows 7 using
    the following two bcdedit.exe commands.
    bcdedit.exe /set {.................................} device partition=D:
    bcdedit.exe /set {.................................} osdevice partition=D:
If you now reboot the system you should now be able to boot into either Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7.

  • Attempted to install windows 7 for dual boot but OSX installation now missing???

I've tried to install Wndows 7 on my macbook air for dual boot but got the kernal error on boot.
I loaded from the CD again and it sucessfully installed win 7 but when I start the macbook air up it only appears to have windows installed?
How can I get my OSX back?

For some odd reason when you use bootcamp to install the second OS bootcamp is defaulted as the primary OS you will need to hold option key to select the apple OS then in the sys preference under startup disk select apple as primary.

  • XP on shipped T400 under Windows 7 Professional Downgrade Rights- Possible to Dual Boot?

I just received the laptop, and booted Windows XP, all configured and such. I then created recovery discs using the Lenovo utility. If I boot from these discs, will they give the option of installing Windows 7 in a separate partition and dual booting?
If no option is given to dual boot, then will discs allow installation of Windows 7, clean install, over the XP partition?
Also, I apologize in advance if I have missed a thread that directly addresses this question. Please direct me to it.

No, the recovery disks will restore Windows XP on the system. Lenovo doesn't support DualBoot configs.
    >If no option is given to dual boot, then will discs allow installation of Windows 7, clean install, over the XP partition?
A clean install infers a format of the hard drive.
I have written a clean install doc for Windows 7 that should be posted in the next day or so.

  • Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop (dv6108nr) with Windows-XPsp3 OS - Need Data Recov

Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop - Need Data Recovery Help
HP Pavilion DV 6108 NR, RG365UA, purchased in late 2006 at Best Buy, with Windows XP, upgraded to Service Pack 3. It has a Fujitsu hard disk, 60 gigabyte, partitioned into C: and a Recovery D:.
Windows tries to boot up, but goes to blue screen with the message: "Unmountable Boot Volume" for one second, then just keeps recycling until I force a shutdown.
BIOS Phoenix, hard drive test result: " #1-08 Fail "
I ran a disk analysis/recovery program on the Cdrive and it seemed to show the directory structure intact, and it was able to recover some files. I was using the free one from Seagate (which only recovers small files). The second pass didn't run so well, and during the third run the program said I should not proceed further, and I should contact a professional disk recovery company.
However, the D drive seems to be intact, so, I wonder if the disk is corrupted or just some aspect of the logical C drive is bad. Or does the disk have a mechanical failure, in which case, is a recovery disk even helpful at all?
How can I get the D: to run the recovery software on it? The recovery disks, made by Best Buy, only proceed to the R / F / Q option screen, and when I press R, I get a blue screen every time.
Tapping the F10 key during startup gets me nowhere. Ditto the F11 key.
I dont care about the hard disk; it is the data (files, docs, images, etc) that I want.
I contacted HP to order recovery disks but they are no longer available for my computer. (But see below, "UPDATE")
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Jon

    UPDATE:
I found a website that offers the following:
    www.computersurgeons.com/p-13442-recovery-kit-435422-001-for-hp-model-number-dv6108nr.aspx
Recovery Kit 435422-001 For HP Model Number dv6108nr
    Price: $27.00
Recovery Kit Set (An Entire Image of the Computer hard drive when the computer was new)
But I wonder how useful it would be. Early XP , no doubt. And if my hard disk problem is a mechanical fault, would any recovery disk even work? The disks made by Best Buy when I bought mine new in 2006 don't do anything more than go to the R /F/ Q screen and then my computer goes to a blank blue screen when I press R (to recover the OS and apps and data files). And, as I wrote, it is the data that I want, not the disk drive.
Any help here would also be appreciated!
    Jon

    Hi @goshenguy
Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help.
I grasp you tested the hard drive from the bios and it failed.  This tests the physical aspcects of the hard drive and when it fails it does require replacement.  You were able to retrieve some of your files using recovery software but not all.
Your recovery partition is still intact and when you try to do a recovery with the disks from Best Buy you do not get past these options R / F / Q  but will not proceed.
Here is a link to Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows XP, 2006 or Later) that may assist you in performing a recovery.
Here is a link to the Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook PC. Please note chapter 3 page 42 for a replacement hard drive part number.
    HP Parts, HP Replacement Parts
If you are still unable to do the recovery, you could try contacting Best Buy for assistance with the recovery kit they provide.
I don't know if it is possible, but you may want to check cloning software to see if you could clone the D partion to the new drive or connect both drives and  try a drive to drive copy of the D partition.
If you were able to successfully put the D partition on a new hard drive you should be able to do a recovery from the  D partition  to take it back to factory.
If none of the above has allowed you to successfully do a recovery, I suggest contacting Best Buy to see it they have  options other then purchasing  a  third party recovery kit.
    Good Luck!

  • Problem on HP Pavilion dv7-6c90el with Windows 8 Pro x64 on Video Card

    good evening,
I just finished installing Windows 8 x64 from Win7 Pro, I was able to find all drivers for my notebook, but I have problems with the video card settings.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv7-6c90el with two video cards, one run by the processor because it seems to me to be a part, and the other normally installed on the PC.
The cards are read by Windows as:
device 1: Intel HD Graphics 3000
device 2: AMD Radeon HD 6700m Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.20)
the problem resides in the fact that the device should be only one support per second, or deactivated, as it will not. The video card AMD should be set to 1, and the intel 2. Only if I go to the "Device Manager" to disable the intel card, Windows works as if it were not present any video card, also installed driver is not correct because the card is an AMD Radeon HD7690M XT, the problem is that even if I uninstall this driver then always comes back. I also tried to download AMD Catalyst in the latest version, but can not find the card. It 's like the Windows is imposed only use the device 1, which, however, I can not disable the BIOS, because there is no voice. I note that under Windows 7 had no problem.
I ask you to help me because I need the performance of the video card for my work.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
First, uninstall Skype and when this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, download and reinstall the Chipset driver Here.
When the installation has finished, restart the notebook again.
Let windows fully load, then download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45044.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
Let Windows fully load, then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.
Reinstall Skype and see if the Mic now works Ok.
