I just replaced the motherboard on the HP Pavilion 17-e066nr notebook laptop, and during startup I get an error saying the the serial number, model number, and product number is not recognized.  Is there any way to input this information?  I tried to enter BIOS, but it won't let me change the info.

What is your Product Number? That will tell us what hardware and we can locate the service manual to see if it backlit keyboard or not.

  • C850 laptop motherboard replacement

So my brother was playing on his laptop, when suddenly his laptop it cut out.
The machine turns on, the screen is completely black (no back light), and fan seems to run at a much lower rpm than previously, no sound comes from the laptop, nor does any indication that it is doing anything ( besides the low rpm fan and indicator lights).
After a bit a trouble shooting, trying 2 different external displays ( one with vga, one with hdmi) I came to the conclusion that the faulty component is most likely the amd mobile graphics card ( I think its the 7610 2gb). Although it could be the CPU, I doubt it, because I would assume it would  post or the lcd would at least turn on.
Anyways, since it is no longer under warranty, I took it apart and found the motherboard info, (H000052560) I only mamanged to find 1 place that had it at a resonalbe price:
    http://www.lambda-tek.com/H000052560-Toshiba-MAIN-BOARD-ASSY-PLF-MAIN-BOARD_0M-~cs/B1902018
however I find it still too much for the motherboard, as if I just look up c850 laptop motherboard on ebay
I found a couple that ARE extremely similar, (not 100% same, but still)
here is the one on ebay:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toshiba-Satellite-C850-L850-Laptop-Motherboard-Intel-H000038410-30-Day-Warra...
This is much more reasonably priced, and has the same gpu, and has a VERY similar board layout, and I am 99% sure it would fit the laptop with all the components.
Now the only thing I am worried about is if I purchase this motherboard, I fear the current i7-3630m won't be compatible with the new motherboard, is this something to be worried about? As I know that other c850 laptops have an i5 in them.
Any further advise on possible repairs would be much appreciated, I heard using a heat gun to reflow the gpu might solve this but I am a bit worried to try that out.
    Thanks

  • Product name: HP Pavilion dv2911us Entertainment Notebook PC Laptop failed to start up

    Product name:
HP Pavilion dv2911us Entertainment Notebook PC
    Problem:
Failure to start up. Upon trying opening the laptop, the following lines, in quotations,  were displayed.
    “ Windows Resume Loader
The last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to resume again?
(use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
    -          Continue with system resume
    -          Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu “
Surely, I have chosen the option “Continue with system resume”; however the display remained black but the laptop acted as if it was on because about 5 minutes later, the side of the laptop was warm as if it was working regularly.
Can you please diagnose the problem and tell me what to do?

  • My laptop failed to start up model hp pavilion dv2911us entertainment notebook pc.

Product model HP Pavilion dv2911us Entertainment Notebook PC
Problem: failure to start up,when I tried to perform a hard reset, the following symptoms were noticed ( LEDs glow , fan noise can be heard, the display remained black ( except for two lines of function keys information at the bottom of the screen and the computer failed to start up.
F10 key was pressed and the BIOS mode was entered. A memory test was done sucessfully but a hard drive test failed to respond.
What can I do to recover the computer without loosing my data.

You likely need a new hard drive and I would guess your old data is not accessible. Pull out the old hard drive and stop trying to access it because every time you do it lowers the already slim odds of recovering data from it. You need to attach it to another computer with a SATA to usb adapter and see if you can access the data in that manner.

  • Upgrade for HP Pavilion HDX9300 CTO Notebook PC

    Good morning people!
I have one HP Pavilion HDX9300 CTO Notebook PC and have some questions:
I am wanting to upgrade my HD drive for a SSD model and increase my DDR memory.
I know my memory operates at a frequency of 667 MHz but need to know if my notebook includes an upgrade to 8GB and what would be the ideal brand of memory card to do this.
I also need models of HD 480GB SSD compatible with my notebook.
Thank you all and sorry for english, I'm brazilian.

I checked out you service manual and it says the maximum amount of memory it can take is 4 GB or two 2 GB sticks.
I also went to Crucial and there memory advisor does confirm this.
     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01279508.pdf
     http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20HDX9300%20CTO&Cat=RAM
Crucial also gives you a bunch of different options for an SSD as well. It says that the 512 GB SSD will work, but it is expensive. Stick with a quality brand name like Crucial or Kingston. Avoid buying from e-bay.
When it comes to memory though just because the manual says the max is 4 GB does not mean that it can take more.
You can try installing two 4 GB sticks and it may work, it won't hurt the laptop to try, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
Keep in mind too that if you're running a 32 bit operating system it won't recognise a little more then 3 GB of memory anyway.

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment Notebook PC series Operating system not found

Hello to all how are you doing guys doing today I'm having a problem and need the help from the tech world. So i have a Hp Pavilion dv6500 cto notebook. I started it up and got a black screen stating "Operating System Not Found". I couldnt get into safe mode to recover back to a safe point, i was able to get into the bios system to do a memory and Hard drive test, my memory test came back as a Pass but my Hard drive came back as a fail and stated "Replace Hard Drive".
Now i went out bought a new WD 500GB 5400rpm hard drive for the laptop, i installed it and did a Hard Drive test to make sure it was good and the test came back as a Pass.  Now i had this laptop for years since 2007 and it broke just a few months ago, i just got the new hard drive yestarday and was playing doctor last night. When i got the laptop as a gift i was only given a recovery disk which did boot up and gave me the install now option and repair computer option. I chose the install now option and it was starting to install but then got this error message "Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\Install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002." I read that you cant install windows from a recovery disk so now im back to square one.
So current status is I got a new hard drive that pass the bios test, memory test was a pass. I have no windows disk other then the windows vista recovery disk i tried but failed to install windows. I also tried a windows 7 disk from work but the disk wouldnt boot up came back with a message stating that disk couldnt be read there may be problem with the cd dvd drive or hard drive, but when i put in the windows vista recovery disk that boot up no problem. i just cant install window with it. So Im stuck with a black screen stating no operating system is not found. Note that i havent change the boot up line up back to hard drive to see if it would boot up the new hard drive but i dought it would change anything since its a brand new hard drive with nothing on it.
If someone could help me with step by step like how to get an operating system on my new hard drive. My wife has a laptop but with no cd drive so i would need instruction to boot get it on the usb. Hope i was helpful with my problem.

You have only tried questionable disks. You could order a recovery disk from HP but I am not even sure they still have Vista recovery disks. You could also buy a Windows 7 OEM disk and try that. it will cost you a bit but will be legal. What version of Vista is it? You can also try to find a Vista install disk and use the Key Code on the bottom of the laptop if it is still legible. Here is a link to downloadable .iso files you can use to make a Vista install disk that will activate with your Key Code:

  • HP PAVILION TX2000 ENTERTAINMENT NOTEBOOK PC ISSUES!!!

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT.I BOUGHT A TX2000 LAPTOP A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.THE THOUGHT OF IT MADE ME HAPPY SINCE THIS LAPTOP COST MUCH AND I WAS ONE OF THE FEW WHO WAS ABLE TO BUY IT.AFTER A YEAR AND 2 MONTHS,IT SUDDENLY HANGED IN THE MIDDLE OF MY WORK AND WON'T TURN ON.CONSIDERING THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY,HP DID NOT GIVE A HELL OUT OF MY QUESTIONS.SO I JUST CONSIDERED THAT MAYBE BECAUSE I OVER USED IT OR WHATEVER.BUT AFTER I READ COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME MODEL,I SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT IT IS NOT MY FAULT BUT THE FAULT OF THE COMPANY.
PROBLEM:AFTER TURNING THE MACHINE ON,FAN AND LIGHTS ARE ON BUT IT NOTHING WILL APPEAR ON SCREEN.
I TRIED PLUGGING IT TO A DIFFERENT MONITOR AND STILL NOTHING.THEN I REMEMBERED THAT NO MATTER HOW COLD THE PLACE OR ROOM WHERE I WAS USING THE MACHINE,THE HEAT OF THE LAPTOP KEEPS ON INCREASING!!!
TELL ME,IS IT THE CUSTOMER'S FAULT?I,TOGETHER WITH SOME WHO I AM SURE WILL SUPPORT ME, DEMANDS A RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT SINCE AS WE CONNECT STORIES,IT OCCURS AFTER USING IT FOR A YEAR.COINCIDENCE OR INTENTION???
PLEASE HP,IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE CUSTOMERS AND LOSE TRUST, PLEASE HEED THIS REQUEST OF MINE AND RECALL THE PRODUCT!!!
PRODUCT NAME:HP PAVILION TX2000 ENTERTAINMENT NOTEBOOK PC

I also have the tx2000 with nothing but problems.  If you get the blank screen here is what you need to do:
Turn the computer off and flip it over.  Blow dry through the vents on medium heat for about a minute.  Keep the blowdryer moving.  Wait a minute and then turn it back on.   The heat from blow dryer warms up the chip and it will work again.  I have to do this every once in a while with mine.  And also make sure you buy a laptop cooling fan for yours.  I have mine on continuously and it helps, although it still overheats on occasion.
Here is a class action lawsuit that was just settled:  http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/521913-nvidia-reaches-settlement-class-action-suit-affecti...
Unfortunately for some reason it doesn't look like the tx2000 is included.  I may just take them to small claims court.

HP Pavilion 15-n221sa Notebook PC, windows 8.1, 8GB ram (7.89 usable), 64 bit os, 1.80 GHz intel core i3 processor
I got my new laptop that I bought recently (3-4 weeks, give or take) and I've noticed that my touch pad us acting up OFTEN. Sometimes it brings up the charms bar and randomly opens an option while other times it just straight up freezes. I can tell that it is the touch pad freezing and not the pc because I can still use the keyboard to do things on my laptop and I use a usb mouse that always works without fail.
I have installed quite a few things but I have done frequent full system scans using norton internet security and it has "removed" 1 virus so far. I haven't done a malware scan but I'm getting to it right now.
My question is has a spirit possessed my laptop or is my touchpad broken?

  • What kind of hard drive do I need for my HP Pavilion dx6650us entertainment notebook PC?

I have a HP Pavilion dx6650us entertainment notebook PC that has the BSOD. Even when I run it in SafeMode I have absolutly NO desktop. I've tried EVERYTHING. I have lost hope. So im just going to buy a new hard drive. Does anybody have ANY idea what type of hard drive I need and aprox. how much it might cost? Please let me know(: Thank you.

It is a standard laptop 2.5 inch wide SATA hard drive like shown in this picture:
Look at Page 9 of this Manual:
    Drive Manual
This will show how to replace it. Do you have the recovery disks that you could have made when the laptop was new? If not you are going to have to get a Windows disk or some HP recovery disks.
Here is a drive that would work for you.
    160 gig 7200 rpm drive for $45
This drive will be faster than what you had and is a bit larger. A very good deal for the price. You perhaps already have a second hard drive in the system. See the manual on page 9 for the location of both hard drive bays. You could move the secondary drive (if there is one) over into the primary position without spending a nickel. In fact, that is a great idea. If you do that and still get the BSOD, then it might well be something else going on other than the hard drive. The hard drive is a likely issue but it could also be the memory and other things, too. However, I think the second drive is only found in the dx9000 models so do not be shocked if you do not have a secondary hard drive bay in your machine. I have never seen a dx6000 series but am pretty sure it is a lot like the dv6000 series of which I have seen more than my share. They have a lot of issues and I am concerned you will be spending money on a new hard drive that will not fix anything.
Feel free to post back with issues or questions.

    Hi:
Graphics adapters cannot be upgraded simply.
You would need to replace the motherboard with one that would have better graphics (if one exists for your model).
This would cost as much as buying a new notebook, so it is probably not a good idea to undertake such an endeavor.

    * my laptop battery is not working , system showing 100% battery.
    * removed the battery and again plugged it, there is no sign of damage on it.
*it is in warranty , but since purchased from canada , indian hp customer care is unable to help.
    kindly suggest.

    Hi,
So when you say the battery isn't working, are you saying it won't power the laptop at all, even though it says it is 100% charged?  If you pull the power cord out while the computer is booted up, does it just shut off, like it would do if the battery wasn't installed, or does it give a warning about low battery and try to shut down, or does it do something else?
The first thing I would do would be to run the battery check and if it passes, run a calibration on the battery to see if that improves performance:
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
Post back with the status of the battery check.

    Hiya,
Is the beep sound happen while loading Windows? Is it coming from the speakers?
Have you tried your cursor in the Recovery Manager to see if it's a software issue? When the BIOS HP logo is on the screen press F11 to load recovery manager. If mouse works normally then you have a software issue, if issue still percists it is most likely hardware based.
