HP pavilion a1310y has no sleep mode, I have been able to recover the Hibernate tab, but I cannot get the Sleep tab to become ungreyed out. I have tried to look for support on this issue, some state that the graphics driver needs to be updated, but I cannot find any drivers on HP's site or Intel's site. the only thing on the shutdown options are switch users, log off, Lock, Restart, the sleep tab is greyed out not selectable, and hibernate. Please help...... I used the cmd prompt and used the powercfg -h on to get the hibernate mode, but cannot figure out how to correct the sleep mode problem, also if the hibernate mode is used the computer will not come out of hibernate by any keyboard or mouse movement or keystroke. I will try anything at this point. Thanks

Hi, I have the same firmware version and my phone behaves the same - screen saver kicks in a few seconds after I lock the keypad, and then sleep mode kicks in right away.
I also noticed something else which I wonder if anyone else has noticed: the phone has entered sleep mode, so the screen is blank and the blue light is flashing. Then I receive a call, and answer it by either sliding the phone up or pressing the answer button. After I end the call, I notice that the blue light is still flashing, and it continues to flash as I use the phone to do other things, when the phone is obviously not in the sleep mode. The blue light will only stop flashing after the phone has entered sleep mode again and is "awakened" by me sliding it open or unlocking the keypad, i.e. not by answering a call.
Has anyone noticed this happening to their phone? If I understand correctly, the only function of the blue light is to indicate that the phone is "sleeping" so I think this is a bug. Thanks for your input.

My ipad doesn't seem to make a sound when it is closed or in sleep mode to let me know there is an imessage until you see it on the screen that someone has imessaged. When you're taking it makes the swoosh sound, just not when it's in sleep mode. Help

Am having some problems with the sounds on my ipad, specifically my imessage notification sound when your ipad is in sleep mode and someone is messaging you. Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps

4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

How many of these you can answer...
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

Late 2012 Mac mini with OSX 10.8.2 has started shutting down instead of going into sleep mode.

Sometime in the last week or so my mac mini has started going into full shut down instead of sleep mode.
I have tried checking and unchecking energy saver boxes but haven't found anything which will get me back to where I used to be - and I haven't knowingly changed anything to make this happen.- maybe an OS update caused it?
The machine will fire up with a tablet click rather than needing the reset button to be pushed so clearly the machine is sort of halfway between sleep and full 'off'. Most frustrating as one of the key issues for me in getting this my first mac was its easy sleep and super quick fire up compared to windows.

Oh yes I just remembered that I did just install 2 8gb of crucial RAM (to replace the supplied 2 2gb but surely that can't have anything to do with it - can it)?

Adding to my first post I can now advise that when the mac goes into sleep mode the light on the front stays on (it does not pulse so clearly it is not really sleeping).
When i click the tablet / keyboard this is actually what triggers the mac to reboot

Pavilion dv6 won't go into Sleep Mode

My HP Pavilion dv6 always used to go into sleep mode everytime I closed the lid as it's supposed too. However recently when I close the lid it just loops the login screen as if you've locked your laptop. It makes the sound it used to make when I'd open the lid to wake it up. As far as I am aware there have been no software changes recently that could have caused this. Thanks.

HP Pavilion starts up in hibernate/sleep mode and remains there - there is nothing on the monitor

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f (Core i7) desktop computer.
I was using the internet. Suddenly, the computer made some sound, and the screen went blank. The computer seemed to go into its usual hibernate/sleep mode. Usually, when the computer goes into hibernate/sleep mode (after some period of not being used), the color on the power button changes from blue to yellow. But, this time, the color remained blue.
Usually, I can move the mouse and get out of this mode. But, this time, I moved the mouse, and nothing happened.
I pressed and held the power button and turned off the computer. I then turned the computer back on. The power button was blue, there was a green light on the back of the computer, and the fans were working. But there was nothing on the screen.
I restarted several times, and there remains nothing on the screen. There is no beeping sound when the computer is restarted.
What do I do? Please help. Thank you.

I removed the RAM memory cards and reinstalled them. That solved the problem.

Since 5.1 update, my Apple TV has no audio after waking from sleep mode. I can get audio back if I manually put it to sleep through settings. Help please?

Since the 5.1 update, my Apple TV 2 has no audio after it wakes from sleep mode. To get audio back I need to go to settings and manually put it to sleep then wake it up. Once I do this I have audio. I have restarted the Apple TV as well as me modem and router. I have searched the boards and cannot find a solution. Please help.

Your problem has been reported many times, but causes are as varied as individuals.
Can we assume that a hard shutdown allows a normal restart?
Can I assume that you have used Disk Utility from your OS X install disc to repair the hard drive directory? The freezes and hard shutdowns require that the drive be repaired (not permissions) or soon the machine won't boot at all.
If the root issue is software related, in Console (the application) under Logs, there should be loggings around the time of sleep and logs that tell you what process went wild and froze the machine.
Network activity is also a common casue.

If hardware related, such as an external drive, other USB device (Wacom tablet) or USB PCI card, ejecting, disconnecting, removing, or in the case of the Wacom, updating drivers, are all potential remedies.

My imac has a gray screen when waking it up from sleep mode. about 9 months ago, I installed OS X Maverick.

This is the second time this has happened, since installing OS X (9 mos. ago). (I can't recall the fix from the last incident.) Upon waking the pc up from sleep mode, I get a gray screen. Nothing works except using the Command and P & R keys to get to "reinstalling OS X", to no avail. What do I need to do to get it back to normal?
My imac is a 21.5", mid 2011 item.

Those keys do not reinstall OS X. To do that:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

This is a suspicious sign of power supply failure. I would have that checked into. Others who have had similar problems have had the power supplies replaced which fixed the issue.

HP Pavilion 500 series running Windows 8 not returning from sleep mode

I've just bought a Pavilion desktop 500 series running Windows 8.
When the pc goes into sleep mode, I wiggle the mouse (as usual) to re-awaken it. The screen returns, and I can see my screen saver (a rotating series of photos), and the icons on the taskbar for the items that I have open, but all the icons on my desktop have disappeared and, whilst I can move the mouse pointer around, no amount of clicking will bring anything up.
I have tried switching users (my wife shares the pc under a different user name) to see if this works, but still no change. The only thing that appears to work is to switch the computer off and back on again.

Well, contacted the weblink helpdesk, only to be told that, as they were in the USA and I in the UK, they couldn't help me and to contact the UK. This is via an 0844 number at 5p/minute. Looked up all the other (supposed) helplinks, which suggest that the user goes through a swathe of possibilities to cure the issue, without actually diagnosing the problem.
Bit the bullet and phoned the helpdesk. 22 minutes of chat later, the solutions offered were (a) return the pc to the retailer under warranty or (b) perform a systme restore which means backing up all my data (again), re-formatting the system, then re-installing all my software and data again less than two weeks since I last did it. Of course, there's no guarantee that this will actually cure the issue.
For the meantime, I've set the sleep modes on the pc and screen to "never" to see if that makes a difference......
Always good to get a premium service.

HP Pavilion 23-b010 All-in-One Desktop PC must unplug after sleep mode

I'm somewhat computer illiterate but my best description is that instead of just going into "sleep" mode it requires unplugging and turning back on rather than just moving the mouse or hitting a key but then it resumes all screens and positions that were open when we stopped using it momentarily. I have switched the surge protector and put new batteries in the mouse and keyboard and of course my warranty has expired. Any help will be appreciated by Old Mr Edd.

you can disable sleep mode and set it to never or follow the instructions from the link to customize sleep and hibernate mode if you want it enabled.
