What is the make/model of the speakers that you are installing?  This will help me understand how they should be connected.  There are several ports for connecting the speakers on the Back I/O.  Once I have the information that I requested, I will see what I can do to help you get them up and running.

Error Msg - "No Audio Output Device is installed" - Mine is dv6000 series.... tried everything on this forum... fixes provided by Hp / MS did not work; sound, video and game controllers did not appear in the device manager; Recovery of driver from Recovery Manager did not work; system restore did not work. .... See how i did it.....Did a complete system Recovery to factory condition using Recovery partition... sound returned... worked for a few days... then disappeared again... so it was clear that it was not a hardware related issue but the reason was some update provided by microsoft (sp1, sp2, silverlight, internet explorer or one from those 100 updates that i got from ms after the system recovery (you can never say for sure which update neither can u pinpoint it to sp2)... its actually a conflict .... what i observed was that internet explorer update continued to fall in despite it already being installed.... so went and uninstalled it (not much of an issue just about 9 to 10 MB as compared to a fat MB of SP2). ... and there it was = sound returned !!! so did the internet explorer update which i hid from then on .  Prob solved....  The webcam which had also returned after the system recovery remained with me from thereon and was not affected by the win updates this time.  Now the only issue before me is the CD DVD Drive... which also appeared after a long period of silence (something like after many years) ie after the system recovery, but disappeared soon after the updates... so again not a hardware issue but a windows update issue... here too fixes being provided do not work... search continues for the DVD Drive restoration.

Missing completely from device manager on an integrated component typically indicates a hardware issue.  It's not something that could have a loose connection as it is soldered onto the motherboard.
If you want to be absolutely 100% certain that it's not a software issue, you could perform a full HP system recovery back to factory conditions.  That would confirm without any doubt whether it is a hardware or software issue, but it is more than likely a hardware failure based on the behavior.
However, what is the hardware ID of the base system device?
This can be retrieved by opening the device in device manager and navigating to the details tab and changing the property to hardware IDs.  This should help identify exactly what the base system device is.

  • No Audio Output Device is installed error message

I have a hp pavilion m6- 1045dx and when I turned it on I noticed there was no sound and the speaker icon next to the clock in the bottom right corner had a red "x" next to it. I tried pressing the mute button, up volume, and down volume buttons and that didn't work. I've tried power cycles, uninstalling and re-installing and even downloading new drivers, checking for software changes, and checking to see if software and things pertaining to this problem were up to date (windows said yes). My frustration level is through the roof and I'm ready to get rid of this laptop. Can someone please help?

  • No Audio Output Device is installed

    Hi,
I have a brand new Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b029TU running 64bit windows 8. product no: c7e65pa#abg.
to the right near the speaker is a red cross. when i hover the mouse over it it says no audio output device is installed. i followed all the ideas on the internet, all the trouble shooting on these forums and on hp help to no avail.
also, when i requested online support, my model does not come up in the options so i couldn't get help that way.
So if i right click on the speaker and bring up the sound options and look into them, they say that there is no audio output.
i went into device manager as suggested by hp, went to hardware, sounds, and checked and under sounds there is:
    intel (r) display auto
    high definition auto drive
they both say they are enabled.
    what's the problem?
please i've tried so many options. i updated. turned off and turned on my computer etc etc to no avail.
i'm losing my mind. this is a new laptop. i don't understand why the hell this is not working???
    PLEASE PLEASE HELP

What you are describing seems as if the sound device mute might be enabled.
Hold the Fn key down and tap the F11 key once. That should enable sound and remove the red cross in the systray over the audio icon.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • No Audio Output Device is installed Windows 8 - no audio device detected in Device Manager

OS: Previously using Windows 8.1, now rolled back to Windows 8.
    HP Pavilion p7-1423w
    Product Number: H3Z92AA#ABA
This just seemed to happen on its own follwing a standard Microsoft Windows update. Suddenly, there is a red X on the speaker displayed down in the taskbar area, with the message: No Audio Output Device is installed. This originally happened using Windows 8.1. I tried numerous suggestions and nothing seemed to relate to my problem. Checking the Device Manager is Windows is useless, because no audio device is even detected. Drivers cannot be updated when no device is recognized as existing. I checked in the computer setup prior to booting to Windows and I cannot find anywhere to turn audio on. I thought that possibly audio had been disabled, at the source. Either that or the onboard audio on the motherboard has completely failed.
Hoping that a reset to factory settings would help, I backed up all of my data and proceeded with the reset. Now back to Windows 8, the same issue exists with the original factory settings. No audio output device detected.
Can onboard audio be enabled somewhere in the setup? OR is my motherboard's onboard audio fried?

Only option that I see in the BIOS is under Security.  Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
Really? Nothing? This computer is one year old. Absolutely no reason for this to be happening. What a joke.

  • No audio output device is installed message on dv9925nr upgraded to windows 7.

I have no sound on my hp dv9925nr.  Red X on speaker icon in task bar and "no audio output device is installed" when I hover over icon.
This did not happen immediately upon updating OS to Windows 7 Home (64 bit), but occurred shortly thereafter.  I have no sound device in Device Manager.
Sound worked intermittently for a while, but no longer works at all.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem. The problem arose randomly, and when I checked my computer's devices there was a device in "other" called 'High Definition Audio Bus' that had been installed (without my knowledge) right before my computer lost sound.
What had happened was my computer was running extremely slow all of a sudden and so I restarted it and when it restarted I had no sound. Because this device was installed on my computer immediately before the sound stopped working I assumed it was the cause of the problem and uninstalled it.
It didn't solve the problem, niether did installing the driver you posted a link to, it just posted an error message that read: "Could not find the device for this driver"
I'll try reinstalling the necessary drivers for my computer, which leads to my next and much more insignificant issue: How do I find the product name of my laptop? it's an HP Pavilion g series, and it lists the serial number and product number but from this list http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodSeries... • Audio Problem. says computers muted/ no audio output device is installed. works on start up

I have a HP pavilion dv6500 notebook, windows vista 32-bit.
My computer was recently wiped and was given to me by a friend. he told me the computer needed a new sound card and that the sound never worked.
However, when i first started my computer I had an update and a sound driver was installed.
I put on a movie, the sound worked flawlessly, so I know the drivers, audio output device and soundcard are all installed correctly, but after a minute or so of watching the movie my sound cuts out, the speakers icon shows it is muted, and won't allow me to change the volume, when i scroll over it a message pops up that reads "no audio output device is installed".
sometimes when I shutdown my computer and restart it, my speaker Icon appears normal, and I can listen to music or watch a music video and the sound works again, but after 30 seconds to a minute or so, it does the same thing and wont work anymore.
I dont know what to do. I have tried to use the site to scan my computer for missing files or drivers but it just said that my computer isn't the model i specified (which it is) and that I have an expired warranty. which shouldn't matter if all i need is support.
I work with music and need to use programs like Protools or Logic Pro but I cant do that without sound so haven't installed those programs on my HP yest. PLEASE HELP.

  • NO Audio output Device is installed as well as NO sound, video, or game tab in the device manager

Here is the issue I had with with my Compaq F700 series laptop. The sound was working one day and then not working the next. Over the volume icon there was a big red X and the warning that  No Audio output Device is installed. I also found that there no longer was the sound, video, game tab in the device manager. It had gone missing.
I couldn't use most of the fixes as they require having the sound, video, game tab available and this tab was, as I said missing. I tried reinstalling the sound drivers from the manufacturer’s website as well as using the driver re-install, but at each attempt it would fail as a result of not having any audio devices installed on the computer.
I tried doing the system restore and rolling it back but the problem didn't get resolved. What eventually worked was restoring the system to a MUCH earlier date, like a month prior to the problem. When the restore finished the sound was still not fixed. HOWEVER, the computer OS (WINDOWS 7) needed to re-install a bunch of updates and after the updates were installed, everything was working. I suspect that the original issue was a bad update (the updates didn't install correctly) and that by rolling the system back to a time prior to the bad updates and then re-installing the update was the fix.
With that said, if the restore option doesn’t work or can’t be done I would try looking through the add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall the most recent system updates, then restart computer and let the updates re-install.
    Good Luck

Only option that I see in the BIOS is under Security.  Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
