When you have the computer connected to the AC charger only the small indicator light for it does it still go off after you press the power button?
Can you please provide the full make and model of the computer you have, If you are unsure where to locate that information have a look at this link for help if needed.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Help! Power trouble- pavilion Dv4

I'm a broke college student that saved up money for a good laptop. I bought a pavilion dv4 within the past few months. Just today, I had it on, working perfectly fine and left for work. When I came home, the power light was blinking but would not turn on no matter what I pushed. I plugged it in to charge it, assuming that was the problem. No luck. It makes a weird sound every two seconds and blinks. I researched it, and it said a lot about battery issues with that specific computer. I rarely shut it down. Did I overheat it or something? Please help, leaving for college in a far away state from home and need a working computer!

Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, hold the power button down to 30 seconds, connect power cord Only, see if it will power up.

    Hi @ibalpha ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook and issue with the Boot time. I would restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. This should restore the quick boot option in BIOS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Pavilion dv4-1275mx notebook - once-flashing leds @ caps lock and scroll keys @ start-up

My HP Pavilion dv4-1275mx notebook runs Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 1 for 64x-based systems.
Recently, when I turn it on, the led lights @ the caps lock and scroll keys repeatedly flash once.
I'm not sure what, if anything, happened prior to this starting.  It's possible that there was a power surge when it was shut off, or it may be related to doing a McAfee virus scan or installing the latest version of a software, e.g., Adobe Reader.
I was able to use my System Recovery disks to reinstall the Vista software, thinking this might "kickstart" my computer into working, e.g., as part of the restart process.  After the reinstallation, I was able to use my computer, although the led lights continued to flash.  However, once I shut down my computer, I have been unable to restart it.  The leds continue to flash upon start-up, and I have not been successful in again reinstalling the Vista software.  (I thought if could get my computer to work again that way, it might stay accessible if I used hiberate mode instead of shutting it down.)
The computer's about 4-1/2 years old.  The screen has a short of some kind (only turning on when the screen is low to the keyboard, so I use an external monitor.

Try the steps in the following weblink:

If the issue persists, please read the following document, understand the LED blink code, identify the root cause and try troubleshooting appropriately:

  • HP Pavilion dv4 notepad not booting. NEED Help!!!

    Hi There,
I have HP Pavilion DV4. For some odd reason, when I turn on my notepad, I just get one flash of power light, volume indicating light, num lock light, caps lock light, and screen stays blank. Notepad doesn't boot but power light keeps flashing.
Initially I thought maybe my battery was low, so I plugged in the AC adaptor overnight and in morning it behaved the same way. I have tried all solutions suggested in blogs all over (including removing AC adaptor and battery and hold down power button for a minute, etc.) I am still not able to get my notepad to turn on. I have even tried to have it plugged in for few days, but I get the same thing from it.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out with this issue.
    Thanks.

Have you tried to start it with just the power adaptor connected and the battery removed? Have you disconnected all external devices that may be attached to the notebook?

  • Battery on Pavilion DV4 only last 1 hour. Suggestions?

Battery on Pavilion DV4 only last 1 hour. Suggestions?

+When I brought up an issue regarding Win XP at the Genius Bar, I was just told "oh that's a Win issue, talk to Microsoft."+
Wow, perhaps the "genius" title is a little over-zealous. Windows interfaces with hardware using the drivers provided usually by the hardware manufacturer. The problem is most definitely the boot camp drivers, which were created by Apple, not Microsoft. Either they are simply in some kind of "beta" stage or Apple purposely did not build decent power management into them. I'm half wondering if this is some kind of "bait-and-switch" tactic. They promise the benefits of dual OS's with bootcamp but then make is so you never really want to run Windows because it will suck your battery down in nothing flat! And the funny thing is it's sort of working in my case. I've resorted to running VMWare Fusion rather than booting to Windows and I can get much longer battery life. But if I'm doing some serious work in XP I'd much rather boot to it natively so this is really pretty disappointing and not at all what I was expecting. Apple, PLEASE fix your drivers. You have nothing to lose. If anything, you might get more IT people like me buying Macbook's if it's known that they run Windows as well or better than most other laptops. Our new Dell Latitudes can get 5-6 hrs with a 9-cell battery. Hard to justify replacing that with a system that goes dead in 1 hour!

  • My hp pavilion dv4 screen wont turn on but the cap, and num lock blink

My Hp pavilion dv4- 2145dx and my laptop screens stays black but the key board stays on like the caps lock and the number lock, the mouse, volume, and the wifi light they all turn on and so do the fans but the caps and num lock blink every second at this point i dotn know what to do can anyone help

    Hi,
First, try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.
If it still doesn't start, is there a sequence to the 'blinks' that you can match to the table below?

I understand that when your HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC will not start and you have a cap lock and num lock that blinks once ever 3 seconds. According to the HP Support document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps the blinking pattern is an indicate that the CPU is not functional.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great weekend!

  • Touchpad doesn't work - HP Pavilion DV4 - 2120ca

    Re: Pavilion DV4-2120ca
Touchpad doesn't work after cleaning out the dust collection in the fan, heat sink area.  New Therma paste was applied.
Both the keyboard & touchpad were the 2 things that didn't work following reassembly.  The keyboard didn't work but able to use USB wireless mouse.  Couple days ago the replacement battery finally arrived, installed and charged for 12 hours.  After restart, the keyboard works as it should.
Unfortunately, touchpad still doesn't work. The light switch above the touchpad works, clicking on it turns white & amber but any movement scrolling doesn't work.
We tried the following, but unsuccessful
    double tapping top left corner
    Hard Reset
Uninstalled ALPS & Synaptics -- reinstalled , restarted
    Updated Windows, HP, BIOS, Drivers
Don't recall during reassembly if touchpad has a cable or connector.  If so, perhaps worth try to disconnect & reconnect to ensure correct connection.
What do u advise to try next?
    Thank u
    ~ Gayle ~

Did you connect the ribbon cable for the Touchpad. Often times there is one for the keyboard and one for the touchpad separately. Hopefully you have not damaged the ribbon cable. Just make sure you push it all the way in and seat it properly.

  • Hp pavilion dv4-1123us Media Card won't read

I have a hp Pavilion dv4-1123us laptop that won't read a 16 GB SDHC media card. The card works in my PC, so the card is good. I have a Scandisk 5-1 media reader hooked to my home PC that would not read it but I found through Scandisk site I needed to download the latest Firmware which I did and now the card works on my PC. The reader has always and still does read a 512 MB and a 2 GB XD cards on my laptop. I am running XP Pro OS.
I have searched the HP site for driver downloads but only see them for Windows 7 and 8 not XP.
Can someone help me on this?

    Hello wgray826,
You’re having a problem not being able to read a 16GB SDHC card.
I think that your computer does not support the SDHC card.
Here is a link to your user guide and what cards it supports.
I noticed that it shows the Secure Digital but not the Secure Digital High Capacity.

  • CAN I UPGRADE MY VIDEO CARD ON MY LAPTOP? I'M USING HP PAVILION DV4-1125NR

I'M PLANNING TO UPGRADE MY LAPTOP SINCE MANY SOFTWARE GAMES REQUIRES HIGHER VIDEO CARD. IS IT POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE MY VIDEO CARD? I'M USING HP PAVILION DV4-1125NR.

Not possible Unfortunately...all cards nowadays are built in only
It was possible in the old days
but laptop manufacturers found it more "profitable" to make it not, this way the user will have to buy a new laptop every few years.
there are some third party solutions but they aren't effective really

  • No sound when using HDMI to Vizio TV. HP Pavilion dv4-4310us

I just bought a Vizio HDTV and connected to my HP Pavilion dv4-4310us Entertainment Notebook.  I have it connected through the HDMI output on the laptop and get great picture, but no sound! I have scoured the forums for Win 7, and here on HP's site...tried a few things but it seems I'm having a different problem than others.  Other people have posted that they had sound before and now have no sound.  This is my first time using the HDMI output to a TV... I'm running Win 7 Professional, the Audio is IDT, and I have all updated drivers for the Intel 4 Chipset, and the IDT Audio CODEC.  I'm hoping someone can help with this!  It's very frustrating.  Thank you in advance.
    Michele

Yeah. It kind of *****! But it is true, HDMI does not transmit sound, just video. Which it does well I must say.
What I did is I have surround sound and I plugged a cord that has male connectors on both sides and I plugged it into my amp on one side and my mcbook on the other, so now I can get sound onto my surround sound and also get the video images on my HDTV. =) If you have a surround sound system with an amp, I would recomend doing this. Its easiest.

  • 3F0 Error, Hard drive does not exist on Pavilion dv4.

    I have a Pavilion Dv4 with windows 7 OS.
When I boot up the computer it tells me "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I have done the F2 system diagnostics and once I get there click the Hard Disk Test which brings me to where it says "Hard Disk Not Exist. Press <ESC> to continue" and prcoceed to hit Esc where it tells me the Hard disk test failed and "Boot device not found (3F0)"
After which I restarted and hit F10 to get to the BIOS which I then went to Diagnostics and tried to run the "Primary Hard Disk Self Test" and then it says "Hard Disk Not Exist" still. The memory test runs fine passes and gives me no errors.
I have also done a hard reset and have re-seated the hard drive and NOTHING has worked. Help would be appreciated because this has been happening for a VERY long time (just happened to be after the warranty ran out, convienent eh?) and I lucky had my fiances older laptop which is very old.

The notebook is not able to recognize the Hard Drive.
Are you shure that warranty of your PC has ended? Keep in mind that warranty starts from the date that you buy the PC.
If the Hard Drive test shows that the test failed, you will have to get it replaced. I suggest you to call HP technical support and get their advice on the available options for service.
