HP Pavilion dv4t-1300 fan is always on even with low CPU

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-1300 Entertainment PC with Windows 7. Even with a low CPU (around 20%), my laptop fan is always on, and the noise is annoying. Why is it always on? How do I turn it off (I have a separate laptop cooler)?

There's a free programme called speedfan to moniter temps, my fan runs all the time its normal it runs at 30% unless cpu and things get to high temps, you can turn off the fan in the bios but i wouldn't recommend it.

    1) I need to know what all are hard disk compatible with my laptop
    2) I need the maintenance and service guide for my laptop as i'm unable to find..
also i heard about hp laptops tatooing ....whats that ? would the new hard disk baught from outside won't work with my hp laptop ?
Many Thanks in advance for your help!!
    Cheers!

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
    See Page 60
The new hard drive will work fine. Tattooing applies to motherboards, not hard drives. It needs to be a 2.5 inch wide and 7 or 9.5 mm thick SATA drive...it can be regular mechanical a hybrid or a solid state drive.
As the best bang for the buck I recommend a 7200 rpm mechanical drive like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145587
But if your budget is a bit bigger you can go with a number of options at higher prices.

  • CPU Fan running really fast even at low temperature.

I bought a HP Envy 700-160eo desktop computer 5 or 6 months ago and for the last 2 months the CPU fan has been running really fast even at low temperature. It's like locked to about 2400RPM as soon as I boot up my PC. Even if I get 30 degrees celcius it runs at 2600RPM. I've tried resetting my CMOS and tried updating my BIOS, but the BIOS update that you are providing me on the HP Envy 700-160eo driver & update section isn't compatible with my PC. The update is for 700-0xx. I've been using the program called Argus Monitor for controlling my fan speed.

I've got the opposite problem, my AMD CPU is running around 55C and the fan hardly ever exceeds 1200 rpm most of the time its running around 950rpm.  I think the 48C to 65C is running on the edge of to hot in my opinion, I like to stay around 35C-40C. Motherboard, video card and hard drive all stay in the 30C range. I tried to speed the fan up with SpeedFan program but it can not interface.
I hope someone can give us a answer, I checked the  UEFI and could not find any setting allowing controlling fan speeds on my ENVY 700-200z/AMD A10 cpu.

  • JSPs always recompiling even with pageCheckSeconds -1

I have sent the jsp-descriptor pageCheckSeconds to -1
indicating that I don't want my jsps to ever be recompiled
(I include the generated class files in the war and so they
should never need recompilation). I see from the weblogic.log
that this setting has taken effect, however, the jsps are still
              being recompiled when referenced.
Somehow the installed petstore.ear file manages to avoid
              recompilation, but I can't seem to make this work for my ear files;
              the jsps are always recompiled.
Is there something special done in the distributed petstore.ear?
If I take the petstore.war and replace any one of its class files
with a newly recompiled one and put this back in the original
petstore.ear, then restarting the server and referencing
the page will again recompile the page. Is there any way
to avoid this recompilation? Is the isStale method not working correctly?
Does setting pageCheckSeconds -1 not work?

Hi again. That is a good idea. Check if router can grab an ip from your modem since wireless local connection through the router is working. If it can grab an ip and works fine on wireless, then you might have a problem with the ethernet ports. You might want to try assigning an ip address on the wired connection and see if ip of router is pingable. If really not working at all, possibility that router is not working properly anymore.

  • Fans going at 6000 rpm with little cpu usage--computer too hot?

    Hi,
I am not sure what normal temperatures are for my computer, but often the fans are running at 6000 rpm when the computer doesn't have all that much going on. When I am trying do anything actually demanding, the fans are running non-stop. I've also noticed that things have just been running rather slowly, with lags in mouseclicks and typing. I am not sure if these are related, or why the computer might be working so hard to complete simple tasks. Here is a picture of iStatPro showing what's going on--CPU is 95% idle and the fans are at 6000 rpm. Does anyone know if the temperatures shown are normal or what I can do to improve the situation?
    Thanks!

  • Tecra M10 fan is always on

    Hi,
I have had a Toshiba Tecra M10 for a few days now, and compared to my previous laptop, I notice a very different behaviour of the fan. The fan of my old Satellite Pro L10 used to be turned off unless the system really got hot. This was around the 55 to 60C. But now, with my Tecra, the fan starts running upon system start and never shuts off. This happens even on a cold start. It looks like the BIOS triggers the fan, as it did also happen during the installation of Windows Vista and Windows XP. This is definitely not OS-related. Even when I clock the CPU back to 798 MHz and set the cooling method to optimize battery life, the fan runs and runs.
After looking at the temperatures, it turned out that my CPU(-cores) were working at 30C, and my hard drive was running at 35C. The hottest thing was the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150M, at 40C. So you'd say that the fan runs to cool this GPU. However, as I wrote above, the fans do always run, even if the entire computer is below the 20C.
So I've got two questions, and I hope that anybody can answer them for me.
First of all I'd like to know if there are other users of the Tecra A10/M10 that experience the same "problem" as I do. Can this be seen as a defect, or is it perfectly normal?
And secondly, if this is perfectly normal, is there a way to turn the "fan always on"-thing off in the BIOS? As I am visually impaired I cannot check this for myself, so I'd like to know if this is at all possible before I ask a friend or relative to help me.
I don't ask all this because the fan noise annoys me, but merely because I'd like to squeesh the most out of my battery.
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply! I'll answer your questions below, hopefully this will save me from sending the notebook back to the reseller...
The BIOS-version that was preinstalled on the machine was v2.00, and this seems to be the latest and greatest. (I looked it up on the Dutch Toshiba website.) So I don't think I can solve the issue that way.
And about the fan speed, it is constant until the internal temperature rises. A basic scenario would look something like this:
    - You turn the PC on, and the fan starts to run while the Toshiba-logo is displayed. That's not too weird, some of my previous computers did that as well.
    - The Windows XP bootscreen pops up and the fan maintains its speed. This is not the maximum speed, perhaps 1/4th or 1/3rd of it. But as the computer is sitting in a room with a temperature below the 15 °C this really shouldn't be necessary.
    - Windows is ready to go and just displaying the desktop. After 1 minute the LCD-screen and the hard drive power down to maximize battery life, but the fan keeps on running.
    - After a while I start using my PC to convert some MP3s or to create some highly compressed RAR-archives. During this process, the fan starts running faster. The longer you use the computer intensively, the faster the fan will spin. So it definitely is responding to heat sensors.
    - After the heavy work is done, te fan quickly slows don, but never stops completely. It will only slow down till that "stationary" speed.
    - When I shut down the computer, the fan stops running about half a second before the screen goes black. So basically, the fan runs when the computer runs, kind of like a desktop PC would do.
As my computer is not even a week old, this can't be dust and debris that's causing the problem. And the temperatures are not that high either. Is there any Tecra-user (A-series or M-series) who can confirm this odd behaviour?
    Thanks for the help!

  • [HELP] HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa fan - abnormal whirring and grinding noises even after replacement

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.1 C  (current)   01-2013
My laptop fan started making a very loud grinding and whirring noise constantly (very loud, easily heard in other rooms from the laptop) and after cleaning out with compressed air with no improvement I decided to get the fan replaced as it was clearly worn out in some way. (This laptop fan has always been loud, but never making this sort of grinding sound).
Replacement fan was ordered directly from HP and installed. However, while the noise is much quieter, the fan is still making a constant sort of whirring/very low grinding noise which gets louder and changes pitch whenever the fan kicks up to a higher speed.  While the laptop is now at least useable, this noise is still annoying after being on for a long time and I did not expect it to still have the same problem after fully replacing the fan.
Since then I have looked online for solutions and similar problems, having since flashed the BIOS to the latest version, checked both the hard drive and memory in the BIOS (both proved fine)  and tried switching between having the fan mode set to always on or not always on in the BIOS and messing around with HP coolsense. None of these have helped remove this constant whirring sound.
Now this laptop fan has always been loud. That I am ok with, I know the sound of a loud, yet working fan drawing air, but this is not the same sound. The fan is still drawing air sufficiently and keeping the system temperature down to an acceptable level, but this constant whirring noise is annoying when having to work on the laptop.
    [In Summary]
-HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa  Laptop fan had loud whirring/grinding noise
    -Fan was replaced
-Noise reduced and grinding somewhat gone, but whirring and some grinding remains even with the new fan from HP
Any help would be great, I have tried to include as much information regarding the problem as I can but if there is anything else needed dont hesitate to ask and I can try to provide such information as required.
    Michal.

Also, when the fan is running at higher speeds the whirring/grinding noise is quieter and less noticable than when it is running at very low speeds... When running at very very high speeds (while playing games)  the fan sounds almost the same as my old one when it was still working, and at high speeds its more a whirring humm... Then at lower speeds it goes back to a more low whirring/grinding.
Not sure if this helps but its just something I've noticed...  Any help with this problem?

  • Possible to connect an external monitor to HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. It says my drivers are up to date...but I don't even know what I should be looking for. Do I need to install something or buy some sort of adapter?
I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but  I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing here - please help!

    Hi,
All Dell monitors come with CD's for drivers. Your laptop may not know the monitor w/o its driver, it won't install automatically. Please check:
Ringht click a blank space on desktop,
    Click Personalize
    Click Display
    Click Change display settings
Can you see BOTH laptop screen and external monitor in there as shown on the following image:
For testing, I put my Dell monitor is my main display. If I can't see 2 monitor, you need its driver first and then check the cable.
    Regards.

  • HP Pavilion dv4t-5100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC Graphic Card Replacement

    Hello all,
I have, as listed in the subject, an HP Pavilion dv4t-5100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC, and I had a few questions about it. First off, I bought it 2-3 years ago and the NVIDIA graphics card it came with has broken, and by broken I mean it doesn't function the way a working card would. To get into detail, it is a NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 630M 1GB, and there are updates for it, however, when I try to update, I experience the following, I can download the update just fine but when I go to restart to install the update is when I have problems. As my laptop starts up again, it crashes and I have to do a System Restore. Thus, I consider it to be broken.
So, I wish for help from the HP Community.
I wish to know if I can purchase a replacement to me installed on my laptop to get another 630M put in or if better yet, I can instead upgrade to a newer NVIDIA graphics card without having to buy a whole new laptop.
    Please help,
    Sincerely --RareFindsYou

For your case of a dead GPU your only choice is to replace the board with same matching board with the GPU fixed. Otherwise if there is a eBay seller that does GPU repair is the only other way to fix the dead GPU problem. I doubt being 2-3 yrs old HP would repair or fix your dead GPU and if they do they would mostly likely swap the board with another board hopefully with the GPU fixed.

  • HP Pavilion dv4t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

I was gifted this HP Pavilion dv4t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC laptop in October 2008 which was purchased in US. I am residing in India. In the first 6 months, the keyboard started having problems. I took this laptop to the HP service center in Bangalore, India which told me that this model is not supported in India. (Product Code # KH600AV)
Somehow I managed to send this back to US for repairing which got repaired under warranty.
Now my laptop is not rebooting. There seems to be some issue with the motherboard.
So far, HP Service Center in India is denying that it is not supported in India. Is there anyone who have come across situation.
    Please let me know.

The maximum memory supported by this notebook is 8192MB(8GB). Your notebook as 2 memory slots hence you need to get two 4GB modules each in order to upgrade it.

  • Fan is alway running on my new dv7-4290us. Should I exchange for a new one or is this normal?

I just got my new dv7-4290us from the HP store and after a little while of playing with it, I noticed that the fan seems to always be running. It's not spinning very fast, just kind of a soft blowing or purring sound but audible for sure. Is this normal for this notebook or notebooks with quad cores and dedicated graphics? I called HP tech support and asked them if it was normal for the fan to run all the time, but they where kind of clueless with, 3 different guys giving me 3 different answers. I did mess around with some power management settings and the HP Thermal program but that didn't help. Turning off the fan always on setting in the bios just causes the fan to blow up every 20 seconds, so that is not a solution. There wasn't a bios update on the driver page, so I don't know about that as a fix. Otherwise everything seems to be functioning properly with no BSOD or lockups so far.  The computer doesn't seem to be running hot (core temps stay under 50°c under light load) and the fan doesn't sound unhealthy like it has a bad bearing or anything. I just want to know if the fan always running at a low speed thing is normal on these machines. From my expereince with notebooks the fan alway running is a sign that your system is not cooling properly, so I wanted to get a second opinion from fellow users before I go through the hastle of exchanging this for a new one.

Does this happen on AC power only?  There maybe an option in BIOS for 'Fan always on while on AC power'.

  • PowerBook running warm/hot & fans almost always running

Does anyone else have their fan(s) constantly running? I can be doing something as simple as checking my e-mail on a flat table like surface and before I know it both fans are running. Back a couple years ago Apple replaced my fan under the screen under AppleCare, now it is buzzing again and being out of AppleCare coverage I'm not rushing to have it replaced. Any ideas why my book's fans are always running? Anyone else have this?

Hi, PBJohn. Assuming for the moment that your hardware is working properly and your fans are running to remedy an excessive heat buildup, plausible reasons for the heat might include:
    1. accumulated dust and crud inside the Powerbook, obstructing the fans and/or the cooling airways;
    2. multiple CPU-intensive processes running at once, including processes running in the background that you've forgotten or never known about;
    3. insufficient heat-transfer paste between the processor and the heat sink;
    4. lack of routine maintenance and periodic cache cleanup;
    5. an overly full hard drive;
There are probably others I'm forgetting, but this list gives you some things to check.
For 1, flip back the keyboard and blow the interior out with compressed air, then remove the bottom panel and do the same to the underside of things. Make sure the air intake and outlet vents are unobstructed.
For 2, open Activity Monitor and see what's running. If you have Tiger installed, turn off Widgets — they're incredibly CPU-intensive. Drive indexing can also consume a lot of CPU cycles and produce constant hard drive activity.
3 is quite unlikely, unless you've dismantled the Powerbook and separated the processor and heat sink yourself, wiping off the transfer paste and then forgetting to apply any when reassembling.
For 4, run the background maintenance tasks manually and/or download Onyx and use it to run them and clean the various caches.
Mac OS X: How to force background maintenance tasks (logs and temporary items)
For 5, make sure your hard drive has at least 3GB and preferably at least 5GB of free space available at all times.
If you check on all these things and still can't reduce the constant operation of your fans, you may have a hardware problem.

i already reinstall the software many times and still the same i dont know what is happening is there is somebody who can help me please im will waiting

There are any number of possibilies... you could have problems with runaway applications, causing your machine to overheat and setting the fans off, you could have bad fan sensors, etc.
Open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and see if you have any apps that may be hogging the CPU. Call back.
