HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook

Hi !
I wonder if i can uppgrade or change to a better graphic  card on this PC ?

Hi,
In all practical senses it's not possible to upgrade your graphics card as its physically soldered to your motherboard.
Best wishes,

  • How to Install a parallel port printer to usb port of Pavilion dv5 Notebook

In trying to install my HP DeskJet 610C Parallel Port printer to my HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, I followed instructions given by HP Support some two years back.
I connected up the two units through a Parallel-to-USB ports cable. The PC loaded and confirmed suitable driver. (Following advice from sites on the Internet, I have made repeated attempts to carefully install the printer, but to no avail).
Upon my issuing the Print instruction, the printer invariably prints two copies of what appears to be 'gibberish' in two lines at the start of the sheet. Thereafter it picks up and then ejects 6-8 sheets of blank paper.
Any help in resolving this anomalous situation will be be most welcome and much appreciated.
I might add that the printer works normally when connected in parallel to an older, Compaq Armada 1750 Notebook (XP OS). In this instance too, the Parrallel/USB worked as in the Pavilion PC, above.

    Hi khalidem,
Sounds like you have a communication problem with the printer cables. Have you tried a new parallel to USB cable or adapter?

  • Replacement DVD Drive for Pavilion dv5 Notebook

My DVD Optical Drive will not read disc so I can't load software.  I'm trying to replace it but can't figure out what drive to buy.  In the HP Support Assistant it says the Model is CDDVD TS-L633N.  The product number for my computer is WQ799UA#ABA.  Can't anyone tell be where I can get another drive like the one I have?

Thanks, I got it to work by going to the cmd prompt and manually auto running the program. At first it said there was no disc in the drive. Weird, and this keeps happening.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41698.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
    Chipset Driver - Windows Vista.
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Pavilion dv5 2035dx - reinstalling after replacing hard drive

My hard drive in my Pavilion dv5 2035dx failed -every test imaginable and I could not get Windos 7 to load.  I purchased a replacement drive that is an exact dupilcate of the original Toshoba 500 and installed in my laptop.  I was not too concerned since I had created my backup disks and had them in my possession.
Well I put the system repair/boot disk in and everything went alon fine, until I was asked to put in my other disks. None of the other disks seem to have the information my notebook is looking for and I can not install the drivers or get the machine up and running. I've checked the HP website and can nt find a recovery kit.
I was unable to get to Windows on the old defective drive to and since I have replaced the drive, there is no restore poit to look for so I have to reinstall back to the day of purchase.  I need help, any suggestions on getting my notebook up and running again.

I grasp that when you power on the notebook it flashes 3 times but does not boot to Windows.  Here is a link to Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps that will help you determine the cause.

  • Driver stopped working (pavilion dv5 1388)

My laptop froze and a message popped up saying my driver stopped working. Then another message popped up saying my driver isn't working at all. I can't play any games, because of this they do not work properly; they just stop working. Does anyone have any clue on what I should do to get the driver working again? Is there a driver that I need to download?

I understand that your notebook froze and you received a message that a driver has stopped working and you are unable to play games.
Have you tried running The HP Support Assistant to look for HP updates and help resolve issues.
Here is a link to HP Pavilion dv5-1388us Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers.
    Have you checked for viruses?
I would also run a hardware test to rule out a malfunction. HP Notebook PCs - System Diagnostics (F2)
If everything tests fine and you are unable to install the required driver, you can do a system restore back to a knonw good date. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
If that is not an option I suggest you do a recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery  process you will receive a prompt to backup you personal data. If you have not done one recently, I suggest you do one now.
