HP Pavilion DV6-1264CA Artist Edition 2 left touchpad button is screwed up
I'm a proud owner of an Artist Edition DV6 laptop, but a few months ago the left touchpad button suffered a bit of a failure. Through normal use, the left side of the left button (the one you use to click on just about everything) seems to have broken down. I am not familiar with the inner workings of this device, but it feels like there are two underlying supports that hold the button up and allow it to be clicked down on, one on each side of the button.
A while ago, the left side of the button started squeaking while clicking, and now it sags down, and the button can be rocked from side to side. The right side of the button is still up, and it now sits on a slant. Visually it is just a minor annoyance, but what is driving me batty is that now the button essentially "clicks" on its own. It can still be used normally, but often the button will click multiple times within a fraction of a second. I only use the laptop for entertainment, but it's still annoying as hell, especially when playing games where unintended clicking can lead to irreversible actions.
I have looked into the HP catalog for repair parts, but as other Artist Edition owners have discovered, there are no specific parts for the AE model, and the only relevant part is a complete touchpad with the whole palm rest attached to it. Of course, the palm rest doesn't have the Artist Edition graphics on it, which I absolutely intend to keep.
So I was wondering, if i can locate another palm rest with the touchpad, is the touchpad transferrable to my palm rest? Or is it inseparable? Are all DV6 touchpads the same? Or alternately, if I disassemble my touchpad, what are the chances that it is repairable? Maybe something just popped out of place?
Oh, and before you ask, the laptop is out of warranty, and I'm not sure I trust the clowns at Best Buy to be able to fix it, and to do so in a timely manner. I'd rather explore all options and see if I can fix it myself first.

Does anybody have any input? I see tons of sellers selling HP DV6 parts on eBay, I just need to know if I can swap over a touchpad from one palmrest to another, and if all touchpads are the same in the DV6-7 range.

DV6-1030US paint coming off left touchpad button
A small rice-sized irregular piece of the chrome paint has come off the plastic left button after only two months. It's not a nice smooth wear spot but with rough edges and is annoying.
I know it's just a cosmetic problem but it seems that the coating should not be coming off a two-month-old laptop that cost $700.
After about 90 minutes with HP Online Chat (who actually suggested I bring it in to the local Wal-mart for some reason !?), the Chat guy gave me a phone number and I talked with a Mumbai-based tech who was only willing to write up a service order for me to send it in which would entail unacceptable loss of use, risk of damage and the shipping expense.
I don't understand why they can't just send a new button cover. It would be cheaper than having me send in a functional laptop for a simple cosmetic repair. With 25 years of hardware & software development, I could easily change the part myself. If anyone has any clue as to how to get a replacement cover (even at my own expense), please let me know.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to be dismayed at the lack of common sense exhibited in my dealings with corporate America.

Left touchpad button delay in web browsers
I'm at a loss to figure out what could be causing my left button on my touchpad to delay intermittently. On both Google Chrome (whether stable, beta or dev) and Firefox, the left button when pressed may not respond for up to a few seconds. This is most noticeable when using Google Street View and Google Maps, which refuse to change viewpoint when holding down the left button. It isn't a Flash fault because there is also a delay when highlighting text.
I can rule out the possibility of any hardware fault as the left button on the touchpad works fine elsewhere, within KDE (ie. drag and dropping works without delay or fault) and other applications.

NB250-10G - left touchpad button does not work
I have a NB250 10G that until a couple of days ago had worked perfectly.
However, I then found that I could not operate the netbook with the touchpad.
However, all works fine with my USB plug-in mouse.
Everything seemed to be going haywire with the touch pad, but I now know what is wrong.
The right-hand touch-pad button works fine, but the left-hand button is producing the same result as the right-hand one. In other words, I have no working left-hand button - I can't click to open any icons, I can't close down - all that happens is that I get a mini-menu appearing just as with the right-hand button.
An online note to Toshiba has so far not been answered.
Can anyone help please? JohnThanks for your suggestion. Have been into the control panel and changed the touchpad keys from right-hander use to left-hander, applied change - No result. Then back to right-hander set up again - still both keys give the same results, ie a normal right-hand key result. But thanks for the help. You also suggest re-installing the mouse driver. I have no idea how to go about this - are you able to advise? Many thanks. John

Left touchpad button sticks on Pavilion DM4
My wife has a DM4 2180us Pavilion notebook and lately the left button stick or does not register a click. Looking at it I believe the problem is that its rubbing against the chassis frame around the button. Have tried cleaning around it with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. But although it helped a little it still is sticking. Kind of upset that we have not even had this PC a year and already have replaced the WiFi card and have had issues with it shutting down randomly. Fan runs all the time and seems to be struggling to keep it cool. But that's yet another issue that I can't find a solution for.
The touchpad is probably dead. The driver can be installed on your notebook with a non-functional touchpad, that is why you are seeing it in the device manager. I would recommend calling HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it repaired or replaced.

Some quick questions,
Is the problem with the internal speakers on the notebook, or are you using external speakers?
If you are using external speakers have you tried them on a different computer to be sure they are working properly?
Does your sound work properly in some applications but not in others?

Hp pavilion dv6 cpu not functional
Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion DV6 and after I press the power button the display remain black and the caps lock/num lock LEDs are flashing 1 time. I saw the LED flasing code and the error is CPU nou functional.
Please help me to solve this problem.

Dorunormally the only way to resolve the issue is to replace the CPU, if the unit is in warranty then HP will do this free of charge
I would suggest doing the following 2 things first however:
Power drain:
remove battery and power cable
hold power button for 15 seconds
replace power cable only
power on
BIOS recovery:
hold Win+B and power on with these 2 keys held down
if the problem still persists after these 2 steps then the CPU needs replaced

I recently bought the dv6-1260se, artist's edition. It has preinstalled several programs such as Corel's paint shop, painter and a few others. It also uses Stardock's MyColors.
I want to put Windows7 on it as soon as possible. Vista has been nothing but a pain with all the other pre-installed programs. I've had it for only 4 days and it already freezes when I alt-tab World of Warcraft or even the new Aion. I get a green alt-tab box and the bottom start/task menu. I end up having to hard-reset it. Vista is updated save for Service Pack 2 and the ATI video drivers are updated from ATI's site.
I've been digging around and discovered that a few programs such as HPs MediaSmart programs (dvd, mvp, slingplayer, smartmenu, tv, webcam, wireless assit, ect), the cyberlink dvd program, lightscribe program, ms works, sling player, stardock's mycolors, and norton is in there as option programs to reinstall from the Recovery Manager. So I assume these programs would be on the recovery disks if I burned them.
However none of Corel's programs are in the recovery manager. And I know Stardock's MyColors isn't Win7 ready yet.
Has anyone delt with installing Windows 7 onto this laptop version? I have Win7 RC on all the other computers in the house, I even had it on the old 3 year old Compaq V6210 laptop before the board gave up the ghost for good. Do I hafta contact HP directly for serials for Corel's suite of pre-installed programs if I lose them in a restore?i had the same problem, i did the windows 7 upgrade and my dv6-1260se is working horrible. Lost all the Corel programs, lost alot of my other programs (like you, I thought they would be in the restore window)...I had to order the recovery disks from hp, which they sent out for free, so my only option is to restore back to factory settings, which is an awful solution.
I bought the laptop aug 4, 2009, it was working very well until the windows 7 upgrade. I havent done the restore yet, and more problems are occurring. I activated the windows7 with microsoft, now I am getting an error that my copy of windows is invalid.
Yesterday, the laptop just stopped even though it was plugged into the power supply. I noticed the white light was not on the power cord, and the black unit in the middle of the power adaptor was beeping. Now I have a totally unfunctioning laptop.
One idea I had for loosing the Corel programs was to print screen all of the Corel programs about screen which shows the software keys. I also downloaded a backup program and was planning on doing a full backup before the upgrade.
I did not backup before windows7 upgrade because everything I read, was that if it didnt work right, I could restore to just before the upgrade. I also didnt want to loose the corel programs and other photography programs, so I chose the windows7 upgrade.
YOU CANT restore the computer to just before the upgrade. I couldnt even restore the program to factory settings even though drive D holds all the factory setting programs.
The problems I am having after the windows7 upgrade are ridiculous. The battery life went from almost 6 hrs, to less than 2, the laptop seemed hotter after the upgrade, and now the power cord is not working, so I am a photographer with photos to deliver and a non functioning laptop.
I am calling support and will keep you posted. If you do the windows7 upgrade, backup backup backup. I heard that the windows7 clean install is the recommended choice, but like you I didnt want to loose these programs.
HP support has not been that great, as they said they would send me software keys for all the preloaded software, that never happened. I did get the recovery disks (free) but it took about 10 days to get it. I have not tested the recovery disk, so not sure if it even has all of our preloaded software.
All the preloaded software was the reason I purchased this laptop, besides the upgraded configuration. Be careful with the windows7. I believe the upgrade process that hp provides does not work. -
AMD High Definition Audio Device Not Plugged In (HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa)
I have just booted up my HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa (running on Windows 7) laptop to find that the sound icon has a red cross next to it and it claims that 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in'. In the Control Panel it states that the AMD High Definition Audio Device is Not Plugged In. As far as I know, I've done nothing to cause this.I have already tried:System restore to yesterday at 10pm;Instalation of a TDI driver from the HP website, however I do not know how to edit/disable/delete the old driver. I'm completely clueless about these things. Please help, I'm at a complete loss.
This happened to me too. I own an HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr (Windows Vista). The internal hard drive stopped working, I took it to a computer repair shop, they put in a new internal hard drive, asked Microsoft for a key code and jump started the laptop. I took it home with me yesterday, watched a few videos and wondered why the sound wasn't working. The volume light on the laptop base was indicated as red (which meant the volume was off, even when the volume on the laptop screen was on). The only way I was able to hear sounds from videos was when I put my ear phones on.
I read somebody say that this happened to them and they restarted/rebooted their computer. I did that and, expectedly, it didn't work. I came across this page, opened up "Device Manager," opened up "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Right-clicked the "IDT Device" and then uninstalled it. My laptop then restarted and thankfully the sound was back up. I didn't need to download anything or right click the "IDT Installer" or "Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button" or any of that. It thankfully came back without me having to do any of that. I restarted/rebooted my computer to see if it was a fluke, and thankfully it worked again. Now I don't have to use my ear phones. My ears didn't like being pumped with sound, even when it was on low. My "Digital Display Audio" is still not checked green. It says that it's "not plugged in." But hopefully I won't run into this problem again in the future. Because if I'm a week or two or a month removed, the repair people I initially went to for my internal hard drive problem, will say that this was a separate issue caused by me and will charge me extra, when it was in fact caused by them (not maliciously of course, I guess this kind of thing happens when you replace a hard drive, as do a lot of other things which I'm not beginning to see). SOLVED: HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Windows 7 Recovery Partition Failed, Windows Partition Formatted
Hello everyone. I just joined the community, so I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong place or if I do not supply all the needed information about my computer and problem in this first post.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Entertainment Notebook PC, which came with Windows 7 Home Edition, and an HP Recovery Partition. Today, I decided I wanted to start from scratch, as the system was getting pretty slow, and the User folders were becoming very unorganized. So I followed the instructions found at the HP website and used the program HP Recovery Manager. However, after the Recovery Partition formatted the Windows Partition, and had three minutes left to copy the files into the new partition, a message popped up declaring the recovery failed, and the computer had to be rebooted. So now I have a computer with no operating system on it at all, and the Recovery Partition continues to fail. I have used the Recovery Partition before, and this has never happened.
Has anyone encountered or know of a similar issue? Does anyone know a solution? Am I out of luck, or is there someway to ask HP for a copy of the installation media?

How do i clean the air vents on my hp pavilion dv6 notebook pc?
Latelly, the fan on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC has been noiser than usual and it appears that my notebook becomes quite warm to the touch. The HP Support Assistant running on my notebook PC recommended that I can reduce the heat and fan noise by cleaning the air vents. How do I do this? Can I do this myself or do I have to have a professional do it?

You can clean the vents on your notebook.
Buy a can of compressed air. Essentially, you need to gently blow out the vents with the compressed air to clear out the dirt and dust. You need a can with a small straw like attachment for the nozzle so you can point it directly toward the vents.
Do take a look at this document first so you know which way to point the air and how to avoid damaging the fan inside the notebook.

HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook - Internal Hard Drive Options

I just purchased an HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Entertainment Notebook PC (at Costco), and so far it's been a great deal. Everything seems to be working just fine.
Because I do a lot of development work in Virtual Images, I have been running a number of external Hard Drivers from the notebook over the couple of weeks since I've owned it (including an external SSD). All that seems to work fine.
But, I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to install a second Hard Drive or SSD in this Notebook Model. I saw on the HP site that some Notebooks allow the installation of a second Hard Drive, but I couldn't find any information on this model that would suggest it can handle such a configuration.
My primary objective for doing this would be to retain the original 1TB Hard Drive that came with the Notebook, but have a secondary SSD Drive to perhaps run the Paging activity from, when such functionality is needed upon running some of my larger Virtual Images.
Any assistance with clarifying if this is an option with the HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl would be very much appreciated.

HP pavilion dv6 no longer working
Hi there
So i have just purchased an HP pavilion dv6 about a week ago. When i first got it the Cyberlink Webcam was working fine but then it just decided to not work. When i open the Cyberlink Webcam programme it just says 'webcam not dectected'. i downloaded the newest version of Cyberlink (youcam 5) thinking i mgiht help but my web cam is still not working. It also isnt working in any video programmes such as skype or facebook.
How can i get my webcam back up and running?
