HP Pavilion dv6 2122eo fan running almost constantly

On my now 12 month old HP dv5 2122eo running windows 7 64-bit home edition, the fan runs almost constantly, and has done so since purchase, even without any load on the pc.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures, and the fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even after disabling this in Bios, the fan still runs almost constantly. Would be grateful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searching for solutions on the Web.

Andrew,
You can't control the fan speed/function directly on HP laptops.  If you haven't updated the BIOS then try that.  Also, here's some other stuff to try.

  • The fan runs almost constantly but is not hot

My macbook pro is making a fan-funning sound almost constantly, even when the computer is not hot.  I have tried shutting down and restarting, to no avail.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

As leroydouglas mentioned, the fans are always running, the idle speed is about 2000 rpm, if your fans are running at high speed when the machine is not working hard you can try a Systwm Management Control reset:

Follow direstions for a battery you should not remove yourself

  • 17" MacBook Pro fan runs almost constantly

Fan runs way more than it use to and the screen becomes pixalated when waking up from screen saver or switching between desktops. The fan seems to run when searching the internet. Is the video card going out possibly?

    Very real possibility.
The fan seems to run when searching the internet.
    Try a SMC reset:

If there is no change, run an Apple Hardware Test:

    Post back with the results.

  • Fan runs almost constantly-why?

So my macbook is about 2.5 years old, going on 3. I will admit that I don’t turn off my computer that much. I just close it for the night. However, my fan is been going kind of crazy for a while now. It’s okay for the first little bit it’s open, but then if I open certain websites or watch videos my fan goes at full speed and then won’t stop.
Is there anything I can do? Or do I need to take it to an Apple store?
    thanks.

Another thing to do is to open activity monitor and sort the items by the amount of cpu that they use. If an application is using too much, you can quit it. If it only runs when you use safari, reset it.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • [HELP] HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa fan - abnormal whirring and grinding noises even after replacement

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.1 C  (current)   01-2013
My laptop fan started making a very loud grinding and whirring noise constantly (very loud, easily heard in other rooms from the laptop) and after cleaning out with compressed air with no improvement I decided to get the fan replaced as it was clearly worn out in some way. (This laptop fan has always been loud, but never making this sort of grinding sound).
Replacement fan was ordered directly from HP and installed. However, while the noise is much quieter, the fan is still making a constant sort of whirring/very low grinding noise which gets louder and changes pitch whenever the fan kicks up to a higher speed.  While the laptop is now at least useable, this noise is still annoying after being on for a long time and I did not expect it to still have the same problem after fully replacing the fan.
Since then I have looked online for solutions and similar problems, having since flashed the BIOS to the latest version, checked both the hard drive and memory in the BIOS (both proved fine)  and tried switching between having the fan mode set to always on or not always on in the BIOS and messing around with HP coolsense. None of these have helped remove this constant whirring sound.
Now this laptop fan has always been loud. That I am ok with, I know the sound of a loud, yet working fan drawing air, but this is not the same sound. The fan is still drawing air sufficiently and keeping the system temperature down to an acceptable level, but this constant whirring noise is annoying when having to work on the laptop.
    [In Summary]
-HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa  Laptop fan had loud whirring/grinding noise
    -Fan was replaced
-Noise reduced and grinding somewhat gone, but whirring and some grinding remains even with the new fan from HP
Any help would be great, I have tried to include as much information regarding the problem as I can but if there is anything else needed dont hesitate to ask and I can try to provide such information as required.
    Michal.

Also, when the fan is running at higher speeds the whirring/grinding noise is quieter and less noticable than when it is running at very low speeds... When running at very very high speeds (while playing games)  the fan sounds almost the same as my old one when it was still working, and at high speeds its more a whirring humm... Then at lower speeds it goes back to a more low whirring/grinding.
Not sure if this helps but its just something I've noticed...  Any help with this problem?

  • New MBP seems to run hot & fan runs almost all the time

I've had my MBP for just about a week now. It's the new, 15", 2.2 GHz model. It's great, but I notice that it runs hotter than my Powerbook G4 did and the fan is almost always on. It's presently sitting on a wooden topped table. My house is not AC-ed, but the air temp is about 70 F/21 C today. Seems to run hot in my AC-ed faculty office too, when I am there. What is "normal" for this machine. TIA.

    David,
Ditto what Ned says. To be sure, 80 C is not too hot (it is the temp that the MBP is designed to maintain as a working maximum), but that you are experiencing this temp at all times indicates that something is pushing the processor at all times.
That is not normal. As has been suggested, have a look at Activity Monitor. If you are not doing anything of any consequence at the time, your CPU usage should be very, very low, and processes that you see using CPU intermittently (there will be many of these processes) should only use a small percentage when they use any at all.

  • My macbook air fan is now running almost constantly

Macbook air fan now starts to run within a very short time of waking the system up and then runs contstantly. This has not been the case in the past, although I did have the issue overa year ago and got phone support - don't remember what they did to resolve it.

For fan issues, reset the SMC >  Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Fan runs almost continuously

I recently bought a Mac mini & it seems as if the fan is running far more than expected - like almost all the time. I've tried repositioning it vertically, horizontally or in different locations without noticing any difference. Is this something others have experienced?

Re:  "&amp" :  It means I wrote this on my iPhone and didn't proof what I wrote before I posted it.
Please explain what I am looking for on the Activity Monitor?  Is it the CPU or Energy tab that I care about and at what point does the fan turn on?  Is it 50% CPU usage or something like that?
Thanks for the suggestion as I didn't know this existed to even look at it.

  • Pavilion Dv6-6146tx fan issues

    Hi guys
Im having fan issues, where when i play games such as Saints Row 3 or Dirt 3,  the fan will randomly cut out when the gpu temperature reaches about 75°C.
It is quiet hot where i live and room temperature is around 35°C
Is the fan cutting out due to the high ambient temperature, or is my fan just failing?
    Any help would be great!
    Edit: Here are the specs:
    Intel core i7-2630qm @ 2.0ghz
    AMD Radeon 6770m, 2GB GDDR5
    8gb 1333mhz ram   (2 x 4gb)
    640gb HDD
    Windows 7

Does the laptop shut down or the fan just cut off? We get a lot of posts here about hot dv6-6000 series. How old is the laptop? Opening it up and replacing the thermal compound might help. You can also go into power management and reduce the maximum cpu down a couple percent. For some reason that does not affect performance but lets it run a couple degrees cooler. As long as the fan spins at all the fan is not at fault.

  • Macbook Pro running Mavericks has fans running and constantly losing disc space

I installed Mavericks on my macbook pro (2.4Ghz intel core 2 duo, about 8 years old) in late october.
Since then, it's been running a bit slow quite a lot, and then has gradually developed more and more of a problem:
    - fans blow alot of the time
    - it loses disc space all the time, including when asleep
I did a reinstall from a back up a few weeks ago and this seemed to improve things for a bit, but today I woke it up this morning to find that my disc space had gone down to 60mb and this continued to dwindel until it was showing nothing, and couldn't function.
Around then I got a SMART warnign that my drive was goign to fail.
Opening it in safe mode it worked, with the fans not blowing at all and with a bit more hard drive space.
I did a bit of reparing permissions in disj utitlity and using disk warrior. DIsk warrior hardware check finds its working ok.
I used Grand Perspective and foudn that two lost+found files were each taking up 4gb of space. After reading around I tired out putting them in the trash and rebotting, and then when my machine was ok in normal mode, I deleted them.
I now have 10gb of space and in normal mode, my fans are even not blowing. So something seems possibly to be fixed for the moment.
    I've turned off dropbox.
    However:
    - the amount of space is possibly still going down (from 10.6gb to 10.14gb in the past half hour) and I'm just running safari.
    - should I basically do a clean install of mavericks?
    Any advice much appreciated!

I should also add that it has the problem where when it goes to sleep it's 50/50 as to whether it will wake up or not. If I click 'put hard disks to sleep when possible', it wakes up fine, but I don't like doing this.

  • HP Pavilion DV6-1253cl Fan problems.

    I bought a used DV6-1253cl laptop recently and it's in great condition. I installed windows 7 on it, installed the graphics drivers, and everything works great. But when I play games on it, the GPU temps soar. Here's a pic of the temps I'm getting;
Here is an audio clip of what the fan sound like (Turn up the volume) http://www.filedropper.com/fan_1
    For those of you who have problems downloading the audio clip,  or are just paranoid, I'll decribe it for you;
Fan starts up for 2 seconds... 5 seconds of silence... repeat.

Sorry to bump but the problem still persists. The only fan shown on the system is GPU Fan, and it doesn't give me RPM's.. simply xx%. It goes from 30% to 100% from what I can tell. And before you ask, no. As far as I can tell the fan speed doesn't change when the fan is revving, it stays at 100% (or so it says).

  • Pavilion DV6-2059so (AMD) runs only on battery

On my daughters DV6-2059so there was a beep signal from the battery charger (both connected and unconnected). I ordered a new charger with the same voltage and power as the original. My daughter used the computer as long as there was any power left in the battery.
When the new charger arrived and I connected it to the computer nothing happens. No light at the Dc-jack. No charging of the battery. If I put my ear to the charger, I can hear that the sound of the switching frequenzy is slightly different connected compared to unconnected. This lead med to think that the computer puts some load to the charger. Hard to tell how much.
Is there any filter components in the DC-jack that can be shorted? Or should I suspect a faulty main board? Any ideas?
    Best regards
    /Anders

When you say that the DC jack is broken, you mean that it has an electrical fault (filter components)? Because I cannot se any visible damage from the outside.

  • Re: Pavilion DV6 - loud fan noise and Core temp hits 89 degrees

My fan is beginning to be noisy, only started a week ago when it was a really hot day

What is the exact model and product number of the notebook in question?
NOTE: Do not provide the serial number.
How noisy would you describe it to be?  It is normal for the fan to spin faster as time goes on due to various amounts of dust build up inside the notebook.
I recommend starting with the steps listed in this video.  It covers desktops and notebooks.
