HP Pavilion dv6-3050tx Overheating while Running Over Battery

I have an hp pavilion dv6-3050tx, Running Windows-7 64 bit. Few days back I had changed my battery as my earlier battery was not able to provide backup more than 5min. But after inserting the new battery I am facing a problem.
When I unplug the charger, after some time my pc get hibernated, and when I again turn it on it shows following massage
"The system bios has detected your notebook PC was placed in hibernation to avoid overheating.
The system is now operating normally and your data should remain intact.
Overheating may occur if the cooling vents are blocked or the operating temperature exceed the specification. The notebook PC should return to normal operation once the situation is resolved.
System Temperature (90D)"
I cleaned the fan and also applied thermal paste, but the problem is still there. And the main thing is, it happens only when the pc is running over battery, on Plug-in I have used my pc for 3-4 hours continuously and its running smoothly. But as soon as I unplugged the charger, the fan starts moving faster and soon after some time the pc automatically gets into hibernation due to overheating.
Again I am saying specifically that, this problem occurs only when the PC is running over battery. While Plug-in pc runs smoothly and properly.

Hi
This wat you can try.. install the Bios update from

     Hi,
    Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.  Note: You may want to deselect the option to include McAfee Security Scan Plus before downloading.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if videos play Ok in this browser - if they do, close Firefox, open Internet Explorer and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart Internet Explorer.

  • W510 checkered pixel patterns while running on battery [workaround]

Hey all, got my W510 in the mail yesterday and am quite pleased with it so far, but I have one issue that I've determined to be related to the power profiles.  When using any energy-saving power profile while running off battery power, when I have a flash website (e.g. Nvidia's homepage) open in IE or Chrome or if I move any window around the screen enough, some kind of strange pixel checkering occurs constantly when the screen has too much activity.  It's as if every other pixel gets shifted over by one making what looks like a checkerboard out of all the pixels on the screen.  I can still read the screen, but it makes my head spin.
If I choose the standard 'Max Performance' power profile, the issue doesn't manifest when running on the battery.  If I choose any of the others or create my own profile to mimic the Max Performance profile, I still get the checkers.  It still manifests if I go through and turn off all power-saving options or increase the brightness of the backlight.  If I start with the Max Performance profile and adjust it to my needs, the problem doesn't occur.  Something tells me that the performance profile has something subtly different than all the others and it's not a configurable setting.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Should I upgrade my Nvidia drivers from version 188.25, which came with the machine?  I've read that other people have had issues upgrading their Nvidia driver.  The way the system behaves, this seems like a power management issues more than an Nvidia driver issue.
Edit: I should also add that I don't have the issue while running on the AC adapter.  Also if I take a screenshot while the pixel shifting occurs, the screenshot is crisp and clear with no signs of the pixel problem.  This seems purely hardware/power management related.
Edit: see my later post on adjusting the power settings to work around this issue.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's reasonably likely that whatever issue you're seeing is linked to a setting in the NVIDIA Control Panel. So the best diagnostic you can do is, in high-performance mode (where the problem DOESN'T occur), write down the value of EVERY single setting that's available in that control panel.
Then, put the machine in a power mode in which the problem DOES occur. Then again go into the NVIDIA Control Panel and check every single available setting to see if anything has changed. There's a reasonable chance that you'll then find out what setting is causing the problem.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video probably ten times that. Taking a close-up shot of the screen while the problem is occuring, with either a still camera or preferably a video camera (or both), may help siginifcantly in diagnosing the problem. A simulated picture may differ in some subtle way from what's really happening, and those subtleties may be important. For instance, does the effect only break up vertical lines, and not horizontal lines? And does it only happen to content that is moving on the screen? And you're running your display at its native resolution, and not some larger or smaller resolution, right? Is the horizontal offset in the effect always just one pixel-width, or is it more than one pixel-width if you move things fast enough?
The simulated picture that you provide looks like it suffers from an artifact that appears WITHIN moving items that are displayed on an interlaced-scan display. The artifact goes away when the item ceases to move. But these aren't supposed to be interlaced displays. And I assume that you're talking about the built-in LCD in the W510, and not some external display, right? If somehow your display card is in interlaced display mode, then the problem probably won't appear in any screenshot the W510 takes of its own display. So at least that part of such a problem would agree with what you're describing.
So maybe the card is in an interlaced display mode when it's not supposed to be. Such a setting would normally be contained under some sort of "Video" menu in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    And from nVIDIA's website:
    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2343&p_created=1231528...!!&p_li=&p_topview=1
"Graphics card temperatures typically range from 40°C to 90°C."
The only mention of interlacing that I see on their site for that graphics card is in the "Features" section of:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_quadro_fx_880_m_us.html
    "PureVideo HD Technology
NVIDIA® PureVideo® technology is the combination of high-definition video processors and software that delivers unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for SD and HD video content. Features include, high-quality scaling, spatial temporal de-interlacing, inverse telecine, and high quality HD video playback from DVD."
Plus there are many references to interlace features in the "NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver README and Installation Guide" which covers your video card. And those features are also presumably present in the Windows driver as well:
    http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/195.36.08/README/README.txt
    One such reference is:
"While [it] is possible to apply de-interlacing algorithms to progressive streams using the techniques outlined in the VDPAU documentation, NVIDIA does not recommend doing so. One is likely to introduce more artifacts due to the inverse telecine process than are removed by detection of bad edits etc."
So maybe it's trying to do spatial temporal de-interlacing when it doesn't need to (I once wrote software to do spatial temporal de-interlacing for a thermal camera, and you don't want that to be turned on when it's not supposed to be turned on). It mentions the de-interlacing in connection with a video mixer feature. So that's another possibility.
Anyway, that should keep you busy, if you want to fix it. ;-)  Good luck!

  • While running on battery, MacBook Pro crashes after a few minutes of use.

While running on battery, my MacBook Pro crashes (shuts down) after a few minutes (less than 10) of use. Battery indicator still says I have enough power (more than 75%) so it can't be related to the other reported issues with low battery crashes.
While on power adaptor, I don't have any issues.
I checked battery condition as suggested in all the forum threads I can find and its fine.

PRAM reset did not resolve the issue

  • MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) shuts down while running on battery

    Hi,
Five months ago, my MacBook Pro 15'' (2.53Ghz) started showing me the message 'Service Battery'. I took it to an Apple Store and I was told that everything is still fine. Nevertheless, for the past 2 months my laptop shuts down while running on battery (with 20% and 40% levels of charge) periodically. This does not happen every time.
Does anyone know if AppleCare covers this failure?
Is there any other way to fix this?
    Thank you,
    George

Mine does the same thing.  May i suggest downloading istat pro to look at the health of your battery.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
Also do you calibrate your battery?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
I had never done that but after 15 months and 450+ cycles I was experiencing the same problem.  I am a heavy user of my mbp 15"  (2.4Ghz).  After calibrating my health in istat which was going between 30-53 % Is holding steady around 65-mid 70% health wise.  I have also noticed that my battery icon has gone from service battery to replace now to holding at replace soon for the time being.
I am not sure how many cycles you can get out of one battery but as far as i know 700ish is good.  While i wish i was closer to an apple store (3ish hrs or more) i do hope i have helped you.

  • Hp pavilion dv6-2170ee overheating !!!

the hp pavilion dv6-2170ee laptop is overheating (Excess heat) !!!!
    why ??!!!

    Try this:
    Hello,
I decided to sacrifice 1 percent (just) of performance for the sake of cool temperatures and silent fan. I have HP DV6, with AMD Turion RM-74 and HD4650.
So, Yes, You will loose up to 1 percent Your CPU power, but heyh, this processor is so fast that You will barelly notice the change. You will still watch HD content with 720p and everything else smoothly. Note, that gaming will be harder part but consider Your laptop not as a device created for heavy gaming.
    However,
I rarely do play NBA 2K10 on my laptop. It is very cpu demanding. After I've done the above, my CPU temp never reached beyond 71 percent while gaming, GPU - 75 percent.
Without the above mentioned my CPU went over 100 and GPU over 90.
    No more overheating.
So, how to reduce Your notebook temps:
    (i) Power Options -> More power options,
(ii) Balanced plan -> Change settings,
    (iii) Change advanced power settings
(iv) Processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> On Battery - 50 percent, Plugged in - 99 percent.
    (vi) Save changes and close.
Now, mine temperatures are - idle 48, heavy load - 57, extremelly heavy load (HD 720p content) - 62-63. (At the moment my CPU cores are at 47 celsius).
And please note, that the notebooks coolers are just a joke and designed not to cool your laptops, but to take away your money. Their effieciency is minimum: -1/2 celcius.
    Best regards.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • Random Shutdown While Running On Battery

I've been experiencing random shutdowns when running on the battery of my iBook G4 12" (2004). The iBook has been working fine when the power adapter plugged in and I don't know the route of the problem! If anyone could enlighten me it would be much apppreciated! I have run the Hardware Test and everything has come back thumbs up. I'm thinking this maybe a Logic Board problem, im hoping that it isn't because that is costly!
Any help is greatly appreciated, Cheers.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
I would suspect a bad battery. It's ~2 years old (the average life of a lithium ion battery) and it doesn't happen when plugged into the mains. Older batteries often report false information about the percent of charge in them. It can read 60% when in fact it's 1%.
Go to Apple Menu>About this Mac>More Info and see what the capacity of the battery is and the number of charge cycles.

  • Bad Connection via Wifi while running on battery

    Hi,
I've been quite happy as after a update of the Airport-Chipset my WIFI network has not to bee selected manually every time after coming back from standby - but I therefore got another problem - when using my WIFI on battery, I do have failed connections (TCP-Sessions) - I also assume packet loss or hard resets of the WIFI connection... as soon as I plug in the power supply, everything's like happy drugs and sunshine...
    Anyone sharing my experiences?

I did more searching and found the answer.  It isn't a battery issue but how well the micro HDMI cable fits into the laptop.  Check out how to fix your cable here.

Hi I own an HP Pavilion dv6-3043ee, 64bit and running Windows 7. And somehow the network adapter for the LAN got uninstalled for some reason. Now after posting something on the site I finally downloaded the driver for my laptop.
Now another problem, after or at the end of the installation process a pop up message was shown:
"The Realtek Network Controller was not found,
If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable."
Now I checked Device Manager to see if the Realtek Network Adapter was there but it wasn't. All I can see are:

    -Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
    -Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocl TDI)
    -TAP-Windows Adapter V9
    Someone please help. Thank you.

If device is identified but there is no driver for it, it will be appeared as unknown device in Device Manager with question mark icon (?), are you seeing such thing in device manager?
If not, you should refer to your PC manufacturer's website and download.
