HP Pavilion dv6-6135DX Fingerprint Scanner not Working

 1. Product Name and Number
    HP Pavilion DV6-6135DX
 2. Operating System installed (if applicable)
   Windows 7 64-bit
 3. Error message (if any)
Fingerprint scanner shuts down. After an hour or so, the fingerprint scanner shuts down. I've owned this laptop for about 3 months and it has only started recently. Could someone tell me how to keep the fingerprint scanner always on?

I have the same problem with mine. I called HP support and they made my update bios along with updating the finger print scanner drivers. This seemed to work for a week then it started shutting down again so my problem is still unsolved aswell.

    Hello Tajamal,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the webcam isn't working since upgrading to Windows 8.1. I would have to suggest returning to Windows 8 since there are no 8.1 drivers, as indicated here: HP Pavilion dv6-7043cl Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers

  • Envy 15 AMD A10 USB ports and fingerprint scanner not working

    Hi
I've had my HP envy 15 about 2 months now and today all the USB ports as well as the fingerprint scanner stopped working. In the device manager I have 6 entries under the USB headding, all have yellow triangles next to them, all display an error code 19 in the properties.
I have tried uninstalling the devices in device manager and then performing a hard reset. I've attempted to locate the usb 3.0 host controlers for my laptop, but I've had no joy and I've tried running both the Microsoft and HP update facalities to try and force a driver update but so far nothing.
Somebody please help because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point.

    Hello, @LeapM
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you cannot use any USB ports or the fingerprint scanner. That you have error code 19. I will try to assist you with this.
Here is a Microsoft document that may help you: Error codes in Device Manager in Windows. It will explain what the error code is and provide steps to try and resolve.
Let me know how this goes for you.

  • HP Probook 4540s: Fingerprint Scanner Not Working

    Hi,
Problem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
I really need help in sorting out this issue. Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
    Specs:
    1) Probook 4540s
    2) Windows 7 64-bit
    3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5229457&...
I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
    1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
    2)audio drivers,
    3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
    4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
    5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
    6) HP hotkey support
    7) HP universal camera driver
    8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
    9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
    10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
    11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
    -Credential Manager
    -Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    -DCOM Server Process Launcher
    -RPC Endpoint Mapper
    -Windows Biometric Service
    -Plug and Play
Then as suggested in another forum post, I first installed this :http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe and then the validity drivers from 4540s drivers page, and then HP Protect Tools.
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
Please HP provide a solution. Thanks!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok problem solved. I dont know whether it is related to the installation of HP windows 7 Essential System Updates and Intel MEI driver or not - but I did install these.
What really worked without doubt was this - > install both the fingerprint drivers and then the HP Protect Tools. Once rebooted, open HP Protect tools, then go to administration in the bottom right corner -> Administrative Console ->Increase System security -> tick windows login security and your done. Now you will be able to log in via enrolled fingerprints.

  • Thinkpad T61 fingerprint scanner not working..

I downloaded  drivers for fingerprint scanner ,Am using win 7(32 bit)Its option is available in bios security settings..
but when i enter to operating system and software starts ,I swipe my finger to enroll fingerprint it doesn't work..it says bad quality etc.it shows 0% when i swipe my finger.does any one have suggestions?

I've found it works quite well, but you do have to align your finger in the same position each swipe. What I do is register the same fingers multiple times but from different angles that way it will recognise the finger from different angles. If you can't even get the registration to complete, then you could have a problem. Try swiping slowly and carefully the same way and make sure your finger firmly contacts the clear part of the scanner for the whole swipe. It's easy to skim over it and not make contact since the sensor is recessed in the palmrest.
If it still doesn't work I'd recommend trying a known good sensor. I have some I could send you, but you'd probably be better getting one in your area, but if you can't find one let me know and I'll see about sending you one.

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv6 6150.  I took apart the pc to clean the fan, now the lights for the wi fi,  and  mute button, and f keys and numerica key pad is not working... All wire are connected.. The rest of the key pad works fine.. How do I trouble shoot this.  Thanks.

    Hey Keenemlj,
There are a few different things that could have occurred when the computer was taken apart. I would start with hard resetting the computer to see if that fixes any of the issues. You can find the steps on a hard reset here: http://goo.gl/6mk6K
Let me know if this resolves any of the issues.

  • Hard drive crashed - webcam & fingerprint scanner not working

    Hello,
One fine morning my Lenovo 3000 V100 Hard drive crashed. I couldnot retrieve anything but external backups.
With advise from IBM service center i had to buy new hard drive and new OS.
I downloaded all drivers and restored almost everything but finger print scanner & webcam not working.
I was using both quite extensively. I couldn't find Omnipass software to restore my saved logins and could not find Biscam software for webcam.
The drivers i downloaded from lenovo but not working are:
    Fingerprint driver : 62fi07ww.exe
    Webcam driver : 62ds13ww.exe
Can you suggest some driver & software to restore these.

  • Envy dv7-7202tx Fingerprint scanner not working

It was working until this morning. I woke up, turned laptop on, realized the built-in fingerprint scanner on my dv7-7202tx device isn't responding/working (no blinking at the start, it should be) I tried swiping my fingers over it, no response. I researched it online, one of the solution was to uninstall the HP Simple Pass program and the Validity Sensor driver under Biometric Devices and to reinstall both - I downloaded the Validity Driver (sp58900) off the HP website under my product , yet it's still not responding. The only problem here now is the Validity Sensor driver (HP Simple Pass is working fine). I opened Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes, now there's no Biometric Devices (or driver was it) but there is an unknown device under other devices (error code 43). I want the fingerprint scanner working again.
    Note:
Yes, I did reboot after reinstalling. I even shut it down instead of restarting it.
    I need help! Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I checked the Biometric Device under Control Panel, and it says Windows did not find any....
EDIT 2: In the Device Manager, I clicked on Show Hidden Devices, still no Biometric Devices ...

    Hello LouieBot,
There was an update to the BIOS for this notebook on the 15th of last month.  I'd like for you to begin there.
Simple Pass is located here amongst all your other drivers.
Please let me know what happens after you update the BIOS.
    Good luck!

I downloaded the Validity driver from the website, but my fingerprint scanner isn't working. When I was running the Insider previews it did work and I was able to use Windows Hello. • Fingerprint Scanner not working on ThinkPad T440p under Windows 10

    Question
The fingerprint reader on my ThinkPad T440p isn't working after updating to Windows 10.
I looked up my FP reader on the Windows Update Catalog for drivers, and the ones there are the same as what I have installed now under Win 7, over a year old.  They don't have any Win 10 drivers listed in the Catalog.
Setting up the fingerprint reader is greyed out for me in account settings.  Driver is installed and device is working.  Pin is set.
    Answer
On the screen where the fingerprint button is greyed out, check for a warning/error text at the top in red.
The message will be similar to:  “Some settings are managed by your organization”.    If this is displayed, try the following:
You can fix this problem by deleting a registry entry:
Open Regedit and navigate to here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WinBio\Credential Provider
find the value "Enabled=0" and delete it.
Reboot, then try to enroll fingers again.
This registry entry gets set when you uninstall Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro on Windows 7, prior to the upgrade to Windows 10.
    Additional considerations:
If you uninstall Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro before upgrading to Win10, then you run into the issue that you found with the "Enabled=0" registry which prevents fingerprint enrollment on Win10.
If you wait to try to uninstall Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro after upgrading to Win10, then you get an error message during the uninstallation like “Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro is not support on the operating system running” and the software cannot be uninstalled.    Fingerprint will still work on Win10 even if Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro stays installed.  This second scenario is being investigated.
Please see related article for additional information on Fingerprint reader support on ThinkPads for Windows 10

Since installing window 10 on my G505 laptop I have been having jerky sound. All the drivers say they are up to date. klt

Hello mahi_20. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand certain keyboard keys are not working. The issue could be hardware or software related. Before anything else, I would attempt cleaning the keyboard. For more information on how to clean a notebook keyboard, please reference this guide: How to Clean a Laptop Keyboard
If the issue is not resolved, after cleaning it, there is likely a software issue. To assist you thoroughly, I require the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Locating the Model Number of the Computer
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.

  • Pavilion dv6 sd card reader not working

I have searched the boards and have not found an answer to my built in SD card reader not working any more.  It worked fine until a couple weeks ago. When I go to "my computer",  the sd card does not show up as an available drive. I have tried several cards with no luck. The cards work fine when I use a USB card reader, just not the built in one.
I checked the driver in device manager - at least the one I believe is the correct one - Realtec PCIE Card Reader.
Any other ideas? It is a pain having to carry around an extra card reader. Thanks for the help

    View Solution.

    Good morning rv9a.
Prior to the uninstall did the computer make a noise to indicate it recognized the card when you put it in?
You should go ahead and reinstall the specific driver for the card reader just to make sure that doesn't have an effect on the issue.  Here is the link for Windows 7 and here is the link for Windows 8.
Another possibility is the the Plug and Play service is deactivated.  Try the following to check.
    Press the Windows+R keyboard shortcut.
Type "services.msc" into the box and click okay.
Scroll down until you find "Plug and Play" in the list.
Ensure that it is started.  If it is not right-click on the service and select Start or Enable.
I'll keep an eye out for your response; have a great day!

I just recently upgraded my Windows 7 32-bit operating system to a windows 7 64-bit operating system manually, and it erased all my drivers. I've managed to get all of them back except for this annoying volume slider one.

    Hi,
Download and install MediaSmart SmartMenu (version 3.1.2.2  for 32/64 bit Win7) from here.
    Important note!
Before you will install above software you need to have installed at least one MediaSmart product. The best choice will be in my opinion:
MediaSmart DVD here (version 4.1.4328  for 32/64 bit Win7)
If you don't want to use so many extra software then you may download and install 3VRX (ver 2.5 for 32/64 bit Win7) from here.
    Note:
Here is YouTube video which shows what can be done with 3VRX software.
