HP Pavilion dv6 All 4 USB ports stopped working

Hello,
I recently bought a Pavilion dv6-6c11sa laptop. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Everything was working fine for about a week, and then yesterday all of the USB ports stopped working. I have 4 USB ports in total, two 2.0 and two 3.0. No matter what peripheral device I plug in, mouse or flash drive etc, they're not recognized by the laptop. The lights don't even light up on the devices, regardless of the port. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in device manager, taking out the battery and rebooting, installing the chipset drivers (AMD), nothing works. No programs had been installed 3 days prior to the occurence, although I had rebooted several times in that time frame. I simply booted up the laptop yesterday, and nothing worked.
Could anyone offer a solution or suggestion, please?

  • Help, 10.6.8 update, all usb ports stop working after 10hrs

I've been running 10.5.8 for ever and finnaly tried to update to 10.6.8.. After I did it, the usb ports all kick out any connected devises after around 10 or so hours. I ran of the install disk, using disc utillty, disk repair, and repair permisions a few times and it did not help.
I did the install a few times  again to try to see if it would help and didnt.
i tried an erase and install and migrated everything over from my orignal back up external drive that is running 10.5.8 and issue is still  there.
My old 10.5.8 back up external drive works fine and does not have this issue, and I have been using that as my start up drive instead and working from there. But that is not really a solution and a temp work around.
Any suggestions would really help. thanks!

I have a early 2008 macbookpro 2.8 duel with silver keys.
I purchaed the 10.6 disk from the apple store. I've had the machine for years and purchased it refurbished from apple.
I did the erase and install and migrated everything over from external drive, then did update to 10.6.8 and the usb ports still would stop working after a few hours.. Then I read on another apple community forus to reset pram, and pull out the power cable, take out the battery and hold power key for 5 seconds, then restart. that seemed to fix usb issue so far..
But overall my computer seems to be running slower then when using just 10.5.8 and it did not wake from sleep once and I had to force power off and restart.. But maybe its just getting used to 10.6.8. we will see..
Also, on another note, my battery is totally dead, and I can only run computer with power cable.. Will this affect things? it never did with 10.5.8..
Oh, on my erase and install, I just did the simplest version and did not do the full erase to zero using he advanced security measures.. I just did the one where it writes on top of everything..

  • Z87-G45 all USB ports stop working until I reboot

Hello everybody, This is my first post on these forums due to this problem, and I hope some people can help me out.
In February, I purchased myself a Z87-G45 motherboard along with all the other components needed to build a gaming PC, the build went brilliantly considering it was my first time!
About 3 months into my new build I started having problems with my PC, especially my USBs directly connected to the motherboard and the ones at the front of my PC as well, I have a back lit
keyboard and mouse and the lights started flickering erratically like it was being connected and disconnected extremely quickly, then after about 10 seconds of it doing that, they both stop working.
The lights on my mouse completely go out as if it had being disconnected but the keyboards lights are still on, but none of the keys work.
Sometimes I can do a 6 hour gaming session with my mouse or keyboard not playing up at all, but other times it happens within 5 minutes of booting up my PC!
My PSU failed at one point, and when I used a lower power PSU until my replacement came, none of these issues occurred.
I really want to get to the bottom of this because I cannot game while my peripherals are cutting out mid game!
    My specs are:
    Intel Haswell i7-4770k Processor
    MSI G87-G45 motherboard
    Nvidia GTX 780 Graphics card
    AX860 Corsair 860Watt PSU
    Seagate 3TB Barracuda HDD
    Sandisk 128GB SSD
    16GB Vengeance Pro Black 1866MHz CL9 Memory
    Windows 7

Can you download CPU-Z. Then check the Mainboard Tab in CPU-Z and check the what revision your Southbridge is.
I may be wrong but the USB disconnect after sleep was an inherent bug of the Intel C1 chipset which was corrected in C2. The initial boards all had C1.
It may be that yours is just faulty to the point that it started loosing the USB connection even though its not coming out of sleepmode.
Do check and let us know.

Sorry I missed this part in the initial read.
If that is the case, then it is also possible that you may have a defective PSU. The only way to confirm that is to run with another PSU for an extended period to ascertain if that is a consistent occurrence. If it doesn't happen, well then you know for sure it is PSU related. Also recheck all your connections from the PSU (especially the 24 pin connector)
Are your USB connections on the front panel or are you using the onboard USB connectors on the back?

  • USB Ports stopped working - Vista Home Premium (32bit)

I reloaded Windows Mobile Device Center yesterday.  When I got home and booted my computer, all 3 USB Ports and the card reader do not work.  There is power, but no use of the device.  I have read several help posts on this and I have attempted to fix without success.  The one thing I keep reading is the USB Root Hub.  I do not have this in my device manager.  I have uninstalled all of the Universal USB Controllers in attempt to allow Windows to install the drivers.  I am getting a Code 39 error and it says the system cannot locate the preconfigured driver folders.  I cannot use a mouse, printer, or sync my phone without the use of my USB Ports.  Can anyone please help me?

USB ports stopped working in my Macbook Pro

I do not know anything about audio consoles nor do I have an iPhone.
My iPod also does not show on the desktop but it is recognized in iTunes,  Check if that is the case for your MBP.
Do you have the appropriate boxes checked in Finder Preferences?
See if this support article is of any assistance:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410
If you have an external HDD, connect it to your MBP and see if it is recognized.  If it does not show on the desktop, check Disk Utility.
Have you tried all USB ports?  It could be that the problem lies in your MBP.
    Ciao.

    Hi,
What about if you try to install drivers from your product's page?
    http://uk.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-driver
And when exactly it starts to fail to work? Did you try to have OS just installed, restart it and see if it works then? Are you able to determine which driver installation causes USBs to stop working?
    thank you
i just remove USB3 controller driver and work
    thank you all :D

  • I have a Pavillion dvd Model 1245dx. USB ports stopped working. How can I fix this?

My USB ports stopped working.  So did my DVD drive.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time ▹ Time Zone
    Check the box marked
Set time zone automatically using current location
if it's not already checked. If the box is checked, uncheck it and then check it again. Test.
If the correct location and time zone aren't shown in the preference pane, then either Wi-Fi is turned off, or you're not within range of a network in the Location Services database. Under those conditions, the computer can't determine your location.
Credit for this idea to ASC member Easyas314.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Maps
Right-click or control-click the line and select
             Services ▹ Reveal in Finder
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.Maps" selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the folder you moved. The list of recent places displayed in Maps will be lost.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Satellite P850 - right hand USB ports stopped working

I have a new Satellite P850, after a short period the two right hand usb ports stopped working, I only had a wireless mouse plugged into them at the time. Is there a reset for these ports, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no change.
    Any one have any thoughts.

First of all, I don't think you should have done that.
The solution, either a full system recover (probably not necessary) or reinstall the drivers manually. Since they are USB 3.0 (I guess for what I googled about the P850) they use different drivers (specially if we are talking about the sleep and charge ones) so go ahead and download them from toshiba website, that should solve it...

  • A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  WHen we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?

A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?  Obviously the device is operational.  Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn?  If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

  • 1 of 2 USB ports stopped working after 10.7.2 upgrade

I have the newest Macbook Pro.  I upgraded to 10.7.2 today and immediately after, 1 of my 2 usb ports stopped working.   Thought it may be the cable, so I switched cables.  Tried plugging in my iPhone, my portable drive and nothing.   Both work on the other port though.   Both ports worked fine before the update.
    I've rebooted 4x.

One of my USB ports stopped working today. I think it may be related to Itunes update today. Has anyone else seen this recently? I restarted my computer - but that didn't help. I have a MacBook Pro - running Lion 10.7.5
Any suggestions? I saw one USB Hub when I went to Apple --> About this Mac, but couldn't tell if both were there.
