HP Pavilion DV6 not booting

This problem came to one of my friends, so he asked me for help, but I couldn't.
The problem is, When power on the computer the sound of the fan comes for about 2 to 3 seconds and dies. Nothing comes on screne. Tried with the battery on and with AC power without the battery, but the result is same.
If someone can help I will be very grateful.

  • Problem with a Pavilion dv7 - Not Booting

    Hello,
I've a problem with a Pavilion dv7 wich is not booting.
When I turn on the PC the F12 key (Wireless) is fix and red and Capslock is blinking.
After search on the forum, I try several things, turn on PC without its battery, turn on without RAM module (2 module with no module, only on,...) but each time I obtain the same F12 red and Capslock Blinking continuously (1 per second).
If someone have any idea to help me I stay tuned.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Cyrille

    Hi Visruth,
I've clean the laptop with a compressed air bomb, so i don't think it's a overheating problem.
When I take out the hard drive I obtain the same symptoms, F12 LED Orange fix and Caplock LED flashes continuously (every 2 or 3 secondes). I did not find this combination (F12 Red + Caplock Continusly blinking) ?
For the record, this is the laptop of my stepmother and I am sure she did not make BIOS update ...
Anything else to help you to make the good diag ? A tools to boot with ? A hardware test to do ?
    Regards

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I have created a new Post of your own for you -- the previous Thread was unrelated to your inquiry in many ways; the Thread is no longer active.
Because you originally tagged onto someone else's Thread, it is difficult to discern whether you have indeed just reinstalled the Operating System on your system OR whether you have just picked a Post that sounded similar and added to it.  To some extent, the details make the difference.
Hopefully you still have your Digital Persona Software; I do not find a replacement copy of the software in your Notebook's support pages -- I recommend you think carefully before removing your existing software.  Check your Recovery Manager for the original software that was installed on your system -- the software may be available there.
The following applies to Windows 7:

  • DVD/CD/Blu-Ray Drive on HP Pavilion DV6 not working....

    HP Pavilion DV6 with Blu-Ray
The DVD/CD/Blu-Ray drive suddenly stopped popping open or being recognized. I need to double check that there is nothing else I need to try to fix before having to buy a replacement part.
    I've already tried....
    1. reseting my computer back to factory settings (I know I had a virus or malware and then when it died I just decided to set the whole thing, but it didn't fix the dvd drive)
    2. Removed cd. (I had to remove the drive to get the cd out. It was a library cd so I thought that the security strip on it might have caused a problem.)
After these two things it still isn't working. Everything else is fine. I just want to make sure there is nothing else I need to try or check before buying a replacement part.

    Hi RavenMidnight,
For the DVD/CD/Blu-Ray drive no longer ejecting, there is not much troubleshooting that you can do to resolve the issue. I have included the document 'Opening a Stuck CD or DVD Drive Tray (Windows 7, Vista, XP)'. This document will show you two ways as a work around for opening the drive. When you do have the drive open, double check to make sure that there are no obstructions in the path of the tray.
If there are not obstructions, and the tray is still not functioning properly. I have included the document for 'Steps for Removing and Replacing the CD or DVD Drive'.
Please let me know if any of these steps have resolved the issue, thank you.

  • My Pavilion dv6 cannot boot+cannot restore

Win 7...smart disk has been a problem for sometime...now cannot boot. What can I do?

    @prankstare,
As long as Ubuntu is able to read the internal drive, you should be able to back-up to an external USB HDD.

  • My HP Pavilion dv6-3060sa is not starting up on power plugging. Removed Battery Tried Hard boot.help

HP Pavilion dv6-3060SA is not starting up, tried hard boot but still no solution. The charger is OK. The problem is no LED blink on power connect as well no starting up of Laptop. Please help.

If you have another Mac, use Target Disk Mode. Connect your Mac to the other Mac using a Thunderbolt or FireWire cable, and hold down the T key while booting up on the problematic Mac. If you go into Finder on the other Mac, the first one's hard drive should show up as a disk.

  • Pavilion dv6 will not boot up.

When I start my Pavilion dv6, the fan starts, the on key light on, light on f12 key and on caps lock key.
    Screen remains blank.
Have tried taking out battery, and unplugging. Wait and power again. Same thing keeps happening.
    HELP please.

    Hi Thesaloniki,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F2 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a diagnostic test.
I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of Pavilion dv6's could you respond with the mode.. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please respond with which Operating System you are running:

  • Pavilion DV6 1320sl stopped working and will not boot

Pavillion DV6 1320 was beiing used.  Had been running hot - fan was on all the time. The left mouse pad button was pushed and the screen went black with a blinking cursor. It will not boot.  There have been no software or hardware changes, a nd it hasn't been dropped.  Win  7 64 bit is installed and it has run OK since new in 2009.  There are no error messages.  Turning off the machine is with i single depress of the power button.
Turning machine on disk=plays BIOS message to sel esc to enter BIOS.  From BIOS, system check of memory, hard disk and hard disk SMART have been run.  All passed.
No other BIOS function works - ie f9, f8 ,or f11 all do nothing.
I ran the hard reset to no avail.  The buttons glow but the screen remains black with blinking cursor.  I followed the HP guideline for trouble shooting a black screen with glowing buttons.  Didn't help.  swapped each memory bank and tried each possible bank configuration.  Didn't help.  Replaced the RTC battery and reset BIOS to default.  Didn't help.  Hooked up another monitor but that didn't help either.
I did not try system restore, but f11 doesn't work and booting from cd was unclear as to results - I didn't have  a boot disk so I used disk 1 of the restore set.  Nothing happened.
I used canned air to blow out the cooling holes but they didn't seem clogged (although the fan was on much of the time these past few months).
I'd appreciate any ideas.  Perhaps a component has been burned.  What would be the visible symptoms of a CPU failure?  What about the chip set - if the Northbridge fails, what would it look like?
I don't think it has actually loaded and is a video chip failure but who knows?  I'm open to suggestions.
    Rob

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC unable to boot recovery disk

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC unable to boot recovery disk.  First when I power on my notebook it goes straight to the launch recovery or launch Windows normally screen.  When I choose start windows normally, it goes to the window screen and freeze.  When I try to launch the start-up with windows 7 start-up disk, the computer will not load the files.  When I tried to complete a hard drive test, it failed with a failure ID 9UXNXA-55E65V-XD003G-60XR03.
I'm looking for a solution, can someone help?

    Hi:
It sounds like you need to purchase a new hard drive for your notebook, and reinstall the operating system with your recovery disks.
When a HDD fails a diagnostic test, it normally means it is done for.

Had the C partition been split/shrunk to form a new partition previously?
Does disk management show the HDD as basic or dynamic? (Start>Right-click Computer>Manage>disk management on the left).
If it has been switched to dynamic (Windows does this automatically when more than 4 partitions are present on the disk), then the F11 recovery partition won't function until it is restored to basic, but I would like to confirm that is the scenario before providing those steps.
The Disk management shows that my HDD as Dynamic, what should i do then if this is the case and the possible solution to my problem?
please help me & Thank you for your time,

If you have more than 4 partitions you will need to delete the extra partition/partitions, then convert the hdd back to Basic.

  • AMD High Definition Audio Device Not Plugged In (HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa)

I have just booted up my HP Pavilion dv6-6b09sa (running on Windows 7) laptop to find that the sound icon has a red cross next to it and it claims that 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in'. In the Control Panel it states that the AMD High Definition Audio Device is Not Plugged In. As far as I know, I've done nothing to cause this.I have already tried:System restore to yesterday at 10pm;Instalation of a TDI driver from the HP website, however I do not know how to edit/disable/delete the old driver. I'm completely clueless about these things. Please help, I'm at a complete loss.

This happened to me too. I own an HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr (Windows Vista). The internal hard drive stopped working, I took it to a computer repair shop, they put in a new internal hard drive, asked Microsoft for a key code and jump started the laptop. I took it home with me yesterday, watched a few videos and wondered why the sound wasn't working. The volume light on the laptop base was indicated as red (which meant the volume was off, even when the volume on the laptop screen was on). The only way I was able to hear sounds from videos was when I put my ear phones on.
I read somebody say that this happened to them and they restarted/rebooted their computer. I did that and, expectedly, it didn't work.  I came across this page, opened up "Device Manager," opened up "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Right-clicked the "IDT Device" and then uninstalled it. My laptop then restarted and thankfully the sound was back up. I didn't need to download anything or right click the "IDT Installer" or "Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button" or any of that. It thankfully came back without me having to do any of that. I restarted/rebooted my computer to see if it was a fluke, and thankfully it worked again.  Now I don't have to use my ear phones. My ears didn't like being pumped with sound, even when it was on low. My "Digital Display Audio" is still not checked green. It says that it's "not plugged in." But hopefully I won't run into this problem again in the future. Because if I'm a week or two or a month removed, the repair people I initially went to for my internal hard drive problem, will say that this was a separate issue caused by me and will charge me extra, when it was in fact caused by them (not maliciously of course, I guess this kind of thing happens when you replace a hard drive, as do a lot of other things which I'm not beginning to see). Thanks DavidPK.

  • Pavilion dv6-6c35dx - Sound not working after a HP Support update

    Pavilion dv6-6c35dx with windows 7
I recently did a factory reset, and with the reset had to do all the updates. One of those updates from the HP Support assist was IDT High Definition Audio CODEC version 6.10.6381.0 on driver stwrt64.sys. And with that update i no longer have sound. When i put the cursor over the sound icon on the toolbar it says no headphones or speakers are plugged in. I already tried disabling and re-enableing the AMD HDMI output audio device through the control panel menus, didnt work, also it says its not plugged in. When i go into the hp supprt assist, to troubleshoot, to audio and sound, the status on the IDT says Error(52).
    How do i fix this?

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
It would appear that you two are experiencing different issues. I will definitely address both of you!
First, I feel it would be wise to perform a System Restore. You can return the computer to a point before the issue existed. Here's how to do it: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
If that doesn't work, then look at the below suggestions:
*Before any real troubleshooting, please put your computer in a clean boot state. This should prevent third-party programs from interfering. This document provides information on how to do it: How to perform a clean boot in Windows*
*Next, unlock a new Administrator account, so we can troubleshoot on a clean account. Open Command Prompt as Administrator, and hit Enter after typing the following: net user administrator /active:yes
You will be able to log out of your current user account, and log into the Administrator one.
*Finally, make sure all of your Windows updates are complete:
    1. Open "Windows Update" in Control Panel.
    2. Click "Settings", and then click "Install optional updates".
    3. Next, click "Check for updates".
If that step doesn't work, then look below for the appropriate troubleshooting:
@epicness50 , you need to perform all of the steps in this document: No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
Also, since there is a Device Manager Error 52 issue, you may want to look here for additional information and suggestions: Code 52: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device
*The above Microsoft document is for Windows Vista and Server 2008, but the troubleshooting can be done in Windows 7.
@LENNY12 , you mentioned you uninstalled and reinstalled Support Assistant. However, I'm going to ask you to do it again, but with a little more troubleshooting to address what could be causing the issue.
Source of the troubleshooting is my own post: HP Support Assistant Windows 8.1
Uninstall your version of Support Assistant in Control Panel, Programs and Features, then restart the computer.
Solution: Download Support Assistant from its own special home
    1. Click on the following link: HP Support Assistant. It will bring you to the following page:
    2. Click on "Notebooks, laptops, netbooks " under "Download HP Support Assistant". It will prompt you to download it. So save it, then run it AS ADMINISTRATOR.
If either of you are still experiencing issues,  I would perform a System Recovery to reinstall Windows. This will rule out which of the above options are to blame.
First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)
Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
Thanks and have a great day!

  • Pavilion dv6-3227cl sound not working

Hello, I booted up my computer today to no sound. The last time I used it, which was two days ago, the sound worked perfectly, but now the sound is not working at all. I have tried headphones and speakers, nothing works. I have tried to do a system restore to when it last worked, tried installing a new driver, and I am still getting no sound. It could be that I installed the incorrect driver or didn't install it correctly. Thanks in advance for any help, I will put my system info below.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6023tx Entertainment Notebook PC Will not start up. Suspect BIOS error.

    Hi guys,
Was recently using my HP Pavilion dv6-6023tx Entertainment Notebook PC and the next day went to use it and the computer would not boot. Turns on and I get a black screen with the capslock light flashing at me. It flashes twice which is why I suspect I have a Bios error. I have tried flashing the bios but cannot get the computer to flash. Maybe I am flashing the computer the wrong way.
Can someone please provide there expertise and the proper way to flash this type of computer.
Thanks for the help in advance.
    - Ben.

    Hi xdfrightener,
Welcome to the HP Community! You are correct that two flashes indicates a BIOS corruption. The only thing that I can recommend is doing a Restore of the BIOS. How long have you had the notebook for?
