Hp pavilion dv6 RAM usage problem ?

Hi last week got my new Hp pavilion dv6 notebook with 8gb RAM installed. But windows 7 shows only 2gb as usable and doesn't use all the 8gb installed. I have replaced the company installed windows 7 with my legal 32bit version of win 7.
Pls help me out of this.
Thanks on advance.....

Hi,
Check the following.
Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook and check in the bios if 8Gb of Ram is showing here.  If it is, but just not showing in Windows, check the following after windows has loaded.
Hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run Box type msconfig and hit enter.  In the System Configuration window, click the Boot tab and then click Advanced Options.  If there is a tick in the box next to 'Maximum Memory', click to remove it, click OK and click Apply on the System Configuration window.  Restart the notebook.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-3145dx Notebook-Problem with keyboard

My HP Pavilion dv6-3145dx Entertainment Notebook PC's keyboard is not working properly. After my laptop has been running for a couple of hours, the keyboard starts typing all kinds of letters, numbers and printing prompts on its own. I spoke with a tech support person at a local retailer and they believe that there is a "short" in the keyboard and/or cable. I have been using an external keyboard as a work around, but an external keyboard is cumbersome for traveling. Unfortunately the laptop is out of warranty by about a month. Also, this problem started right after I purchased a 4MB RAM upgrade from HP.... don't know if there is any connection??? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hp pavilion dv6-1355dx USB Problem.

    Hello,
I have an hp pavilion dv6-1355dx laptop computer. Recently my HDD crashed and i replaced it with a new one reinstalling Windows 7 64bit. Everything works great, besides my USB's. None of my USB ports work, and in my System devices > Universal Serial Bus Controllers it shows the yellow exclamation point under the multiple "Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller -####". I understand the USB support is based in the Chipset software and I have reinstalled this multiple times. This computer is running a T6600 Intel Core 2 Duo with Intel Series 4 Express Chipset. I have also tried to update driver software within device manager and it tells me my driver software is up to date. Does anyone have any insight about this? Below is a screencap of device manager.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, all! I might be bringing up a pretty old topic, but I've registered on this forum, because I've encountered similar problem. I googled and found quite a few people with the same question, some of them on this very forum as well.
The solution provided here didnt work for me, and it took me a few hours to figure out why my controllers kept returning code 37. All usb ports were working fine up until i started updating windows 7 x64 drivers for the dv6-1326ss, downloading them from the official page. The reason why the problem occured was the accidantly installed AMD USB filter driver, so i followed the steps described here, manually deleted all the troubled lines in the divice manager, and rebooted. After the reboot, all of the drivers have succesfully installed from the windows update center, but something tells me, that reinstalling chipset driver would work just as well. Hope that helps somebody.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2114sa keyboard problems

The keyboard for my laptop has been acting very wierdly. Most of the keys work fine but some ofthem do not bring up what they're supposed to.
For example, when I press the 'b' key, it brings up 'bgtv' and when I press the 'y' key, it brings up 'nhy'
I am falling behind with my university work because it takes me far too long to write with   the on-screen keyboard  so please help

99% of the time keyboard problems are caused by a worn and/or  dirty keyboard.
The only solution is to replace the keyboard.

Above are just some examples, HP made silver, black, copper etc colours.
Consider a wireless or wired USB keyboard if you're not inclined to replace your own. Usually it's cheaper to by an external one then it is to pay a shop to do it.
If you want I can help you to track down the correct one and install it.

  • MSI GE70 2OE, high ram usage problem

    Hey,
when i start my notebook everything goes fast and runs normal. but after a few Min's working with notebook my RAM usage goes up to 95-97%, and everything goes slow.
not running any special programs that can use so much RAM. and can't find anything in Task Manager what it could be.
    Normal RAM usage:
    High RAM usage:
can anyone help me with this? thx

I'm currently trying to help my friend with this issue... But worse.
He had the same issue happen to him. Brand new GE70, got it like a week ago. RAM maxed out, but task manager didn't show anything near that much being used by individual processes. Shortly after he said this he also said the disk usage had gone up to 99% or something similar.
The laptop became completely unresponsive and he had to do a hard reset - but it won't boot up anymore. Just flashes the MSI logo for a moment. Once it got to a screen that said "preparing automatic repair" for a second or two before shutting off again.
Tried EC resets, no dice. Got him to burn a copy of hiren's boot cd to try and run a disk check, it didn't even get to checking the drive. Now the power button doesn't even light up.
He's spoken to MSI support, they said to send it in... But he's got some data on there he needs and can't exactly get on to recover it. It's a real pickle.
So... uh... make sure you have backups.

  • HP Pavilion DV6-1253cl Fan problems.

    I bought a used DV6-1253cl laptop recently and it's in great condition. I installed windows 7 on it, installed the graphics drivers, and everything works great. But when I play games on it, the GPU temps soar. Here's a pic of the temps I'm getting;
Here is an audio clip of what the fan sound like (Turn up the volume) http://www.filedropper.com/fan_1
    For those of you who have problems downloading the audio clip,  or are just paranoid, I'll decribe it for you;
Fan starts up for 2 seconds... 5 seconds of silence... repeat.

Sorry to bump but the problem still persists. The only fan shown on the system is GPU Fan, and it doesn't give me RPM's.. simply xx%. It goes from 30% to 100% from what I can tell. And before you ask, no. As far as I can tell the fan speed doesn't change when the fan is revving, it stays at 100% (or so it says).

    Hello,
I see that you want to know how to do a system restore in Win8. Now, you can follow this document which shows you how to do a system restore in Windows 8.
You will need to open the document and go down to the section that says "Restore your computer when Windows 8 cannot start normally."
This document will show you how to access the restore option without booting into windows.
Now, if you have any more questions please let me know. Also, let me know the outcome to this.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1460er upgrade ram problem

    Hi,
    in my Pavilion dv6-1460er laptop I have Samsung M471B5673EH1-CH9 2gb memory (2GB, 1333MHz, DDR3-1333 PC3-10600).

    What might the problem be?

  • Pavilion dv6-3130tx Blue Screen (BSOD) on adding RAM to second slot

    Hi there,
I own a HP Pavilion dv6-3130tx with total of 3gb of RAM, one 1GB chip and one 2 GB chip. Recently I have been getting a lot of system crashes/freezes and occasional Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a variety of error messages. On contacting HP care in India they said to check the RAM chips and the slot for any problem. I have identified that the second slot is one creating the problem as the system crashes if use any one of the chips on that slot while both the RAMs work fine on the other slot.
Additionaly the RAM port/slot cannot be replaced as such, and since it is out of warranty getting the motherboard replaced isn't an alternative either.
So does anyone have any idea what might be the best way out of this problem?

Did the 3GB of RAM come with the computer or did you upgrade it at some point?
What version of Windows are you using?

  • Blue tinted screen, menory problems, underperforming battery - 5 day old HP pavilion dv6-6005sa

I bought a new HP Pavilion dv6-6005sa 15.6" Laptop - Linen White on 14/06/11 from Currys digital, Arndale Centre, Manchester. The laptop is less than 1 week old.
The screen is a frost blue colour from the second I turn it on to the second it is turned off. Weirdly I can see the entire screen, just that everything is blue!! Does anybody know how this can happen??? When I move the screen it flickers from normal to this blue thing. A loose connection maybe?
I am unhappy as I got to send it back to the shop for a under 21 days replacement involving an expensive airmail delivery :@ The alternative would be a 3 week investigation in the lab which I cant be bothered with!
Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon with a HP laptop screen? I also am beginning to experience memory problems and the usb prots are on the blink. I have looked after it very well, it has just been sat on a desk for 5 days! Can anybody explain me this phenomenon and if it is a comon problem with HP laptops?
Now for the next problem as if a faulty screen and memory cache wouldnt be enough! The battery:
The battery specs are as follows:
    Lithium-Ion 6-cell battery
    'upto 7.5 hours battery life'
The battery is advertised to perform 'upto 7.5 hours' however I get maximum 4.5 hours doing absolutely nothing on power saver mode with the laptop with it just sitting there idle on a desk. At the same time I also had wireless and bluetooth off; screen brightness set to 0%, maximum processing chip power reduced to 20%; battery saver mode active; all major applications closed).
I get maximum 2-3 hours doing basic tasks with it such as word processing. Gaming I get maximum 1.5 hours.
The battery checker displays the following:
    Status: Ok (0)
    warrenty type: 1 year
    cycle count 0
    manufacturer: 13-42
    battery age 136 days
    serial number: 12587 02/01/2011

    Cell Voltage 3: 4177 mV
    Cell Voltage 4: 0 mV
    Status: 0
    AC Power: True
    CT Number: N\A
I have highlighted in bold the things I thing are suspicious. I feel the results are those of a malfunctioning battery. Could anybody tell me if I am correct withmy assumptions?
As I am no expert coes anybody reading this think these results are normal for a new battery and can you provide me some insight to wether my battery might be faulty or not?
Basically I think at least one of the 6 cells inside the battery are malfunctioning.

Go to Power Options in the Control panel and select the  Power Saver option. Do not choose balanced. Then run your battery capacity tests again. Hopefully the new setting will improve the time that you get.
