HP Pavilion dv6 speakers stopped working but headset jack working fine

OS Installed : windows 7 64 bit

I would first start with performing a hard reset. This will remove all electricity from the laptop unlike a reset or shut down. Here is a link that will walk you through the steps: http://goo.gl/25kKj
If this does not work post back with your exact laptop model number and we will continue from there.
Thanks!

  • Pavilion dv6 headphones stop working when certain programs launched

My pavilion dv6 (product number: A5F76AV; OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) is brand new, just arrived yesterday. On startup, the headphones work fine when watching videos online and for any other system audio, but when I launch a game (through steam) I no longer get audio through the headphones (system reverts back to playing audio through the onboard speakers). Once this happens, no audio comes through the headphones regardless of the source, although the volume coming from the onboard speakers changes somewhat when the headphones are plugged in and unplugged.
I've tried manually downloading and installing the audio driver for my computer by going through the HP support website, but doing so did not help. I would be extremely grateful for any help that can be offered.
    Thank you.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 audio stops working upon inserting headphone

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC with Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 installed. Almost every time that I insert a headphone into either of the two headphone jacks the audio stops functioning and this issue continues even after I remove the headphone from the headphone jack. As a result when I want to play an audio on my laptop I get an error that there is a problem with the driver/sound device. I have the latest IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver installed, i.e. sp59542 ver. 6.10.6381.0. Occasionaly, disabling and enabling, or uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver would resolve the issue but the problem would happen again upon connecting a headphone to my laptop. I have used two different headphones (differen brands) and the problem continues. From the searches I have done this seems to be a hardware issue and something related to the on/off switch in the headphone jack so I was wondering if HP is aware of this and whether any recall has been made. It looks like there are different symptoms associated with this hardware issue. Any help with fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi HP-User22,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion dv6 and audio stops working when inserting headphone. Here is a link to update the BIOS.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Have you tried to run a hardware test? Here is a link to do a hardware test. This will test all hardware functions.
    Please let me know.

  • HP pavilion dv6 touchpad stopped working (read this if you have dropped your computer)!

Hello, this is not a question it is advice for people having touchpad issues with their dv6 (I've noticed a quite a few posts). My touchpad suddenly completely stopped working one day (didn't respond to anything that I did).
Most of the forums I've been to (actually, all of them... and they were many) ask you to try reinstalling the driver. However, if you did not recently uprage your OS or make any such major changes this is not likely to be the issue.
Try going to device manager. If your touchpad is not showing up under the mouse and pointer devices section (it should say Synaptics something or other) then it means that either something is broken OR your touchpad came unseeded.
For me, it was the second option (I drop my laptop... occasionally). The cable for the touchpad is held in place by a little plastic lever-like clamp. It can easily become loose, so try this out before taking your computer into a repair shop (and loosing it for weeks, not to mention the price if you're not under warranty!)
    Three easy steps:
    1) take the removable bottom cover off (that little plastic bit in the center where your hard drive is). For my model (6145dx), it just snaps off (with a flathead screw driver or other tool for leverage). You might have to unsrew a few things, but it should be easy.
    2) Take out the hard drive (held in place by 4 screws in most cases). You do not need to disconnect the cables leading to the hard drive! Just pull it out and lay it off to the side.
    3) Toward the very front of your computer (right under where your hard drive was, and where the touchpad is on the top cover) you will see the ribbon cables coming from your keyboard, touchpad, etc. Give them a little wiggle (just pull the plastic tabs that stick up. If one of them moves, then you need to re-clamp it! Push the cable all the way in and push down the lever.
Super easy! Should solve all your problems!

So my touchpad wasn't working and I have an HP dv6-6135dx. It started being messed up shortly after I took my PC apart to upgrade the screen. Sometimes it worked perfectly, sometimes it was completely unresponsive, sometimes the ring around the touchpad was lit, other times it wasn't etc.... It got worse and worse to the point where the touch pad almost never worked.
I followed this guide, and it didn't fix the problem; however, this got me thinking, and I pulled the keyboard out and reseated the touchpad cable where it connects right under there. BAM works perfectly. THANK YOU so much for this post, for some reason I didn't think to reseat the cable... I must have not plugged it back in completely when I took my laptop apart. You can find the service manual for the dv6t here Its in the first post

  • Pavilion DV6 1320sl stopped working and will not boot

Pavillion DV6 1320 was beiing used.  Had been running hot - fan was on all the time. The left mouse pad button was pushed and the screen went black with a blinking cursor. It will not boot.  There have been no software or hardware changes, a nd it hasn't been dropped.  Win  7 64 bit is installed and it has run OK since new in 2009.  There are no error messages.  Turning off the machine is with i single depress of the power button.
Turning machine on disk=plays BIOS message to sel esc to enter BIOS.  From BIOS, system check of memory, hard disk and hard disk SMART have been run.  All passed.
No other BIOS function works - ie f9, f8 ,or f11 all do nothing.
I ran the hard reset to no avail.  The buttons glow but the screen remains black with blinking cursor.  I followed the HP guideline for trouble shooting a black screen with glowing buttons.  Didn't help.  swapped each memory bank and tried each possible bank configuration.  Didn't help.  Replaced the RTC battery and reset BIOS to default.  Didn't help.  Hooked up another monitor but that didn't help either.
I did not try system restore, but f11 doesn't work and booting from cd was unclear as to results - I didn't have  a boot disk so I used disk 1 of the restore set.  Nothing happened.
I used canned air to blow out the cooling holes but they didn't seem clogged (although the fan was on much of the time these past few months).
I'd appreciate any ideas.  Perhaps a component has been burned.  What would be the visible symptoms of a CPU failure?  What about the chip set - if the Northbridge fails, what would it look like?
I don't think it has actually loaded and is a video chip failure but who knows?  I'm open to suggestions.
    Rob

Thank you and yes it is an Airport Express.
Reset router; could not locate the unit using the Airport Utility.....took back for an exchange under warranty as it was only a week old....no problems at store - exchanged for a new one

  • Hp pavilion dv6-7020us speakers stopped working

My speakers stopped working at some point but I don't recall any programs or updates that may have caused this. I have uninstalled everything that I know was recently installed. I have run a driver update for the items in device manager pertaining to audio.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56155.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

    Hello San123,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I will definitely assist you with the computer's issue regarding lack of sound from the speakers. Before anything else is done, please make sure you try every step in this thread: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time
If every step does not help, please provide the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    5. What steps have been attempted from my first post on this thread, and what were the results?
Additionally, if the issue just began occurring, I would perform a system restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
Either way, let me know what happens. Thanks!

  • External speakers stopped working when Yosemiti was down loaded

My external speakers stopped working when I downloaded Yosemiti! how can I remedy this?

Dunno what it has to do with Yosemite, but:  press the alt/option key, while clicking on the speaker icon at the right hand top of your screen. This will show you all the sound inputs and outputs for your mac. Ensure that it is set to "Line Out" or "Digital out" (depending on your speaker's capabilities. Hopefully
    that works

  • My speakers stopped working, and i cannot even find them listed in the control panel.

I have a new (less than 2 months old) HP Pavilion g7, win 7.  My speakers were working fine, then a few days ago, the volume button in the system tray disappeared.  I rebooted thinking it would  come back.  There is now a volume icon, but it says there are no devices connected, and is looking for my headphones or some other output device.  The sounds folder in the control panel only lists external devices.  How can I  find my speakers?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • In built speakers stop working

    hi all,
i am connecting headphones to my tablet,it works fine
but when i disconnect it then the in built speakers dont work
i did all the control panel tests and all are fine
before connecting headphones they work fine
but after connecting external headphones and removing it,the internal speakers stop working
    can anybody help please?

if you do a restart (not a shut down, a restart) on windows, does it still not work?
Unfortunatly I was unable to find any thing that would relate to a windows software controled switch (It does not have any kind of popups signaling the audio source change) so it may be just as simple as a broken head phone jack. Unfortunatly the only thing you can do is return it.

  • Macbook pro speakers stopped working, earbuds fine

My macbook pro speakers stopped working, but the earbuds work fine.  Tried restart and preferences.  Volume icon is grayed out, except when earbuds are plugged in.  What am I missing?

Look in the audio output port.  If there is a red light, the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone jack a few times.  Blow into the port as hard as you can.  Use a toothpick or something similar and jiggle it inside the port.  If no success, bring the MBP to the Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.
If there is no red light, try a PRAM reset:

  • I own a HP Pavilion dv6915nr, it stopped working suddenly.

    Hello,
    HP Pavilion dv6915nr.
    Windows Vista home premium 32-bit.
I own a HP Pavilion dv6915nr, it stopped working suddenly last night. It was working perfectly, I was watching a video on HULU and I stepped away for 2 or 3 minutes, when I came back the screen was off. The laptop seemed to be on sleep, but when I tried to use it again it didn't do anything. When I try to turn it on the keyboard lights turn on for about 2 seconds, then it goes completely off and there is a faint cracking sound on the speaker bar.
I already tried taking the batteries off and using the AC/DC adapter only, it did not work. When I plug-in the AC/DC adapter the light around the power connector turns on.
Hope someone could help me. Thanks.

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on

  • Speakers stopped working on macbook

Internal speakers stopped working all of a sudden.  Headphones work just fine.  Under system preferences there is no choice anymore for internal speakers.

I have the same problem. the fact that this problem is existing since 2006 and Apple doesn't care, makes me very angry. All recommendations in the various forum are nice, but there is none satisfying me. I bought an Apple computer not a Dell machine. maybe I had better bought the Dell one, because I heard the service there is good. I bring my MacBook Pro once in the store to solve the problem. Lets see what they say.

  • External Speakers stopped working on Imac

External speakers stopped working.   Verified speakers operating with Iphone.   Checked that speakers plugged in correctly.   Tried usual power cycling step.   External speakers do not show up in sound preferences.    Anyone with any advice?
    Thanks,

If you unplug the speakers to the internal speakers work OK? If not try  resetting the system PRAM see Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If they still don't work or if the internal works OK then look into the speaker plug. Do you see a red light? There is a switch inside the plug that detects the presents of a  jack and sometimes it gets stuck or breaks entirely.
You could try gently using a non-conductive device (a toothpick is good) probing inside the plug to see if you can free the switch. Of course this could be harmful if done incorrectly. If the system is still under warranty you might want to take it to have it looked at.
    regards
