HP Pavilion dv6000 (service tag dv6620ea) not powering on

Hi,
When I plug the power adapter in, the blue light displays around the plug indicating power is reaching the notebook.  When I press the power button, it starts to power up but then turns itself off.   When I press the power button again, nothing happens - eventually when I press the power button it might start up but then it turns itself off shortly afterwards again.
I have tried removing the battery to see if that helps and have used compressed air to clean out the fans and heat grills..  I have also pushed in the memory sticks in case they had become loose - but none of these have helped..
Do you have any ideas what might be the cause of this problem ?
Thanks
Nick.

Try a hard reset as follows:
1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
4) Press the power button
Please post your positive or negative results here in your thread.

I have a HP Pavilion zv6000 (service tag zv6130us), The manual says it takes 2GB the HP help and support center says it will go to 8GB. Does any one know how much memory this will actually take on a per slot bases?

When I click the Help and Support tab in my start menu then click My HP Computer. The System Information shows Installed memory - 512.00 MB, Memory Slot 1 - 256.00 MB, Memory Slot 2 - 256.00 MB, but it says Maximum capacity - 8.00 GB.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n034sa Notebook PC not powering up and charging light not coming on

Two weeks ago my daughter's laptop would not switch on. The charging light was on and the power light was blinking. I looked this up on the internet and the suggested solution was to remove the battery and power on which worked. Now when plugged in the charging light isn't on, the power light is not blinking and the laptop won't switch on. I've tried my son's charger which is compatible but still no luck. Any ideas?

Is the daughter's laptop under warranty? Failure sometimes comes on slowly and at first a kick in the pants like a hard reset can bring it around but it is only temporary until it finally fails. If you get no response when a known good power supply is attached it is almost certainly a dead motherboard.

    Hi lads from HP community.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7-3080us which is not powering up and the problems is most probably at the Video Chipset so I’ll definitely need to have it replaced. By the way, my Notebook’s configurations is HP Pavilion dv7-3080us, running Windows 7/64 bits, 6 GB RAM and 640 GB Hard Disk and it uses an Integrated Nvidia geforce gt 230m chipset. Computer was bought in May 2010.

    Hello rmcunha,
    You need you system repaired.
There is not a HP repair center that you can take it to, but you can take to one of the big box stores, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples.
They are authorized repair centers and will be able to repair the laptop for you.
    Have a good day.

    Hi again Al259,
Thank you for the quick reply!
If you are not able to successfully restore to a previous working point on your desktop, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

Please identify your notebook with the product name (p/n). It should be on the barcoded sticker on the bottom of your notebook or in the HP Support Assistant.
What you probably need is to install the chipset drivers. You can find them at the drivers & software download section of the HP web support portal for your notebook. Install the drivers that match your installed operating system.

    Hi Tom,
Hold down the Windows key and press R.
Into the Run box type services.msc and hit enter.
Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
Audio Service   ( this may not be in the list )
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • Zen Inventory will not collect Dell Serial Numbers (service tags)

The 'Serial Number' query will not work on Dell Optiplex systems.
The 'asset tag' query will grab the service tag on older versions of the
Dell BIOS in GX1 and older systems (that did not have an asset tag
field). On newer machines (GX100's - GX260's), I've not been successful
in obtaining the Dell Service Tag at all. Dell says that their DMI is
industry compliant and can't understand why Zenworks will not work. Then
they want to sell me their product. Novell says that their product is DMI
compliant and cannot understand why Dell systems will not report the
serial number. I'm caught in the middle. :--(

    Hi,
It is stored in a different place in the BIOS, but this shouldn't be an
issue. Zen simply doesn't seem to be addressing the DMI subclasses
correctly - if it did so it'd have no difficulty at all in finding the
serial number regardless of where the BIOS stores it.
As I've already said twice on different threads, if you access DMI through
WMI using a bog-standard VB script, you can get the serial number every
    single time.
If you have VB, try this code:
Private Function StripNulls(OriginalStr As String) As String
' This removes the extra Nulls so String comparisons will work
    Do While (InStr(OriginalStr, Chr(0)) > 0)
    OriginalStr = Left(OriginalStr, InStr(OriginalStr, Chr(0)) - 1)
    Loop
    Do While (Right(OriginalStr, 1) = " ")
    OriginalStr = Left(OriginalStr, Len(OriginalStr) - 1)
    Loop
    StripNulls = OriginalStr
    End Function
    Set WMI = GetObject("WinMgmts:")
    Set objs = WMI.InstancesOf("Win32_ComputerSystemProduct")
    For Each obj In objs
    MyVendor = obj.Vendor
    MyModel = StripNulls(obj.Name)
    Next
    Set objs = WMI.InstancesOf("Win32_SystemEnclosure")
    For Each obj In objs
    MySerial = obj.SerialNumber
    Next
    MsgBox (MyVendor & " " & MyModel & " Serial: " & MySerial)
Shaun, if there is a patch for this I'd be interested. We've got an audit
coming up and it's CRITICAL we can address this requirement.

  • Problem swapping Display Assembly on HP Pavilion dv6000

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000, Windows Vista.  It has a stuck pixel producing a red line on my screen.  Fortunately, I have another dv6000 with a bad motherboard that I can cannibalize for parts.  Unfortunately, I am stuck on trying to remove the Display Assembly.
Specifically, in the Maintenance and Service Guide, on page 5-34, the book says to remove the two screws holding the display assembly.  The screws are in the corner, so I removed all four screws.  However, the display assembly will not budge from the computer.  Also, on page 5-35, the book says to disconnect the display cable.  I cannot figure out how to do that.  It will not budge.  Further, it says to remove the microphone cable.  The only other cable that is next to the display cable is the cable that was connected to the switch cover.
Can someone give me some guidance on this?  I would really appreciate it.  Thanks!

    Hi:
    1. Install this driver for the coprocessor.  If it does not install the driver automatically, manually install it as follows:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55781-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Go to the device manager and click on the coprocessor needing the driver.  Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.
Select the browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.  That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp37730.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.  Then reboot.
2 & 3. Install this driver for the base system devices (card reader).
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55777-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    4. No such thing.  All BIOS flashes must be run in Windows and only with the supported operating system (Vista).
If you make any attempt to flash the BIOS when running any other operating system but Vista, you can take your notebook straight to the trash bin.
    5. Your notebook is not supported by HP for W7, W8 or W8.1, so I imagine there is a driver problem of some kind or another with which I would not be able to help you with as there is probably no solution to it.
You can try manually installing the Vista graphics driver from your notebook's support page in the remote chance that may get the hdmi to work properly.
    6. Video adapter upgrades can't be done.

  • Need change full body of hp pavilion dv6000

I have Hp pavilion dv6000 now its body look very bad. Can I change its full body.If yes how much cost will be.Please inform me.ThanksSumon

Hi Sumondey, Well, it may be possible, and it may not, it really depends.  The DV6000 series of notebooks is getting pretty old now, so all the parts may not be available anymore. If you want to investigate it, first you will need to identify the specific product number / model number for your notebook.  Take a look at How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for details on how to find that.  Then you will need to find the Maintenance and Service Guide for your model.  You can find that guide on the support web site, go to http://support.hp.com, and navigate or search for your specific model, to get to the Product page for that model, from there find the Manuals tab and see if there is a Maintenance and Service guide listed.  Open that up, and there you can find the part numbers for all of the parts (including the body parts) associated with your product.  Once you have the part numbers, you can see if HP still has them available by visiting the HP PartSurfer and searching for the part numbers.  If the parts aren't available there, then it is possible that you can find parts from other vendors by just searching for the part numbers on Google, though you will need to be careful about finding a reputable dealer when going that route. It would take some homework, but you can find out what all of the parts are, and how much they might cost, if they are available. R

I also disassembled and reassembled for second time to find out if the problem was minor like an unplugged cable but everything was completely fine. • HP Pavilion dv6000 Hard Drive Upgrade Question

Hello all, and thank you in advance for your advice.
I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop.  It came with a Western Digital Scorpio WD800BEVS (80GB 5400rpm 8MB 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s) hard drive installed.  This drive finally failed after making funny noises for about 14 months, and I'm looking to replace/upgrade as the computer itself is still in good condition.  Thankfully I back everything up on an external, so nothing was lost.
I understand that a faster drive (7200rpm) will run a bit warmer, and draw power more quickly.  Power is not a concern, I rarely run the laptop without AC attached.  Anybody have an idea how much warmer a 7200rpm drive would run?  Would this be an issue on an older computer where the fans may not be as efficient as they were when new?  I do keep the vents clear and clean, so air flow should not be impeded.
    What I want:
    1) I'd like to upgade to more volume.
    2) I'd like to upgrade for speed as I frequently use the computer for photo editing (up to 18MB images using PhotoMechanic, Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, Noise Ninja).  I'm thinking 16MB cache and 3.0Gb/s internal would help with this.  Any downsides or compatibility issues with those upgrades on the dv6000?
    3) I intend to re-install the Windows XP Home OS that came with the machine, do the updates, and strip out all the HP/Windows extras.  Not about to purchase a new OS.
    4) Haven't checked prices yet, but I'm fairly certain it only has 1GB of RAM at the moment.  Will likely max that out to 2GB.
A quick search on Newegg brought up dozens of drives that appear to work with the dv6000.
Right now I'm between this Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $75 with 5-year warranty
    And this Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    $65 with 3-year warranty
Will the dv6000 accept a SATA-II drive without issues?
The original part is $45 on Amazon with comparable prices elsewhere.
Any advice on which drive to go with (especially if you've used them personally) would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!
    ***edit***
    Additional information:
Looking at the label, my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6500, CNF74143HW, AMD Turion 64 X2 and nVidia graphics.
Also, I was mistaken, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium, not XP, so I will be reinstalling with Vista HP.
The RAM is HP 449929-001, it has 2x 1GB sticks already installed, not sure if this is the max or if it can take 3 or 4 GB and actually use it.

You don't give us the exact model of the dv6000 series you have but if it is an AMD processor and the model number is equal to or lower than dv6499 I would be concerned about any extra heat. If you have the Intel version I would be less concerned. The fact of the matter is that the newest SATA-II laptop hard drives draw less power and put out no more heat than before so a current 7200 rpm model would not be any hotter or draw any more power than the 80 gig you have now. However, that model series of laptops has been plagued with unexplained issues with all 7200 rpm drives and all 500 gig drives. I have been telling people here for quite some time that the optimum, low risk upgrade is to a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive.
You want more speed. A SATA-II drive will work fine but obviously will adjust down to a SATA-I connection. You do not lose much because the difference is only in max burst speed which is rarely attained anyway. I have personally installed 7200 rpm drives in dv6000 laptops and have not had a problem. I have not installed a 500 gig drive. My advice to you is to find a 320 gig 7200 rpm drive and look for one with a 16 or 32 meg cache rather than an 8 meg cache.I have also not tried one in a dv6000 but you might want to consider a 320 gig SATA hybrid drive. They cost a bit more but will be the fastest non-SSD drive you can buy:
    hybrid drive
    not hybrid
Good luck. There is a small risk of issues with a 7200 rpm drive but I think you will be OK. Keep in mind installing XP takes some special steps, all covered here on this Forum in the XP downgrade guide.

    Hi.
    1. Restore group deamon . Check and edit /etc/group or
    groupadd -g 12 daemon
    2. Generaly, it's not nessesary, but check:
    mkdir -p /var/sadm/servicetag/registry
    chmod root:sys /var/sadm/servicetag
    chmod svctag:daemon /var/sadm/servicetag/registry
