HP Pavilion dv6000 will not power up.

I have had an HP Pavillion dv6000 for a few years, and suddenly, it will not power up at all. I can not determine that anything at all happens when I press the power button. What's weird is that when I connect the power, the AC LED (the one with the lightning bolt above it) lights, and stays lit for 30 seconds, and then turns off. During that time, and thereafter, the power light will not come on at all, and the computer will not power up. I have tried removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for 45 seconds, multiple times, but nothing seems to work. I hope you can offer some advice on things to try.

Well, I've had the problem for a while and was just looking around to see if anyone has had any success stories.
I will tell you how I get mine up and running, but first some background. I was gifted this computer DOA and asked to retrieve data which I was able to do but in monkeying around, I discovered a "fix".
You see, I live in an area where we occassionally lose power for a day or two or three so the weakened battery never outlasts the outage. That's when the unit becomes unstartable.
Now the fix:
It is a variation of all the other suggestions about undoing the power cord and disconnecting the battery but here's the twist: After removing the battery and power cord, wrap your laptop in one then another plastic shopping bag and place it in the freezer for about an hour or two. Now, when you take out your shivering laptop, plug in the power cord and fire her up. It has nearly always started for me after this trial by cold but once or twice it needed more chillin'. Once it is started, insert the battery. I've never had any issues with this sequence.
You will have a lot of condensate on the screen but gently wipe it up with an absorbent cloth and let the rest of air dry as you let it run.
As long as I leave the computer plugged in and not reliant on the battery, it has never died on me.

When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

HP Pavilion a1123c - will not power on after being unplugged while in use

So bit of panic:
I've been using the above computer since 2007 with the expected wear and tear, slowing down. Today it was put through its paces and while on a multimedia-hwavy web page it became unresponsive to the point I could not even bring up the task manager to restart. Being a computer noob, I unplugged the computer to force a reset. It now will not power on with or without the power source. While plugged in the LED flashes rapidly. When unplugged the LED flashes but more slowly. I have tried flipping the voltage switch on the back but still my computer won't turn on.
I have all of my digital photos on this computer and am terrified of losing everything. What should I do? Is there hope of the data being salvageable? Thank you all so much.

Assuming erico 's advice fixes the situation, please make backups of the important data - such as photos or other important documents to a DVD or flash drive or external hard drive.
If the power supply troubleshooting guide does not fix the problem, there are ways to still make the backups of that important data, on a working computer from the failed computer. Just come back with the report on whether the advice from erico worked or not.

HP Pavilion M9100t will not power on

The other night there was a thunderstorm with a large amount of lightning, so as a precaution I turned off my computer and powered down the power strip it was plugged into. We did not lose power from the storm, or experience any surges that I'm aware of. In the morning I turned the power strip back on, and my PC would not power on at all--no fans, no beeps, nothing. Everything else plugged into the power strip works just fine.
Here are the things I have tried so far:
- Plugged computer directly into the wall
- Removed video card (it had been having issues in the month prior)
- Reseated power button connector on motherboard
- Removed and replaced CMOS battery
- Tested power supply with a power supply tester--it seems to be fine
- Disconnected everything from motherboard and tested
- Removed memory
- Reseated memory
- Switched voltage switch on power supply to higher voltage and back again
- Removed dust
I hadn't really noticed any weirdness leading up to this. I had been having issues with the video card, which I thought to be a driver conflict, and it's been working fine for a few months. I do remember that one time after taking the PC apart to mess around with the video card, it did not want to power on, but slightly changing the position of the PC made it work again. That was a couple months ago.
The green LED on the power supply lights up when the cord isd plugged in. Initially, pressing the power button would cause that green light to turn OFF. Holding down the power button would cause it to turn on again. Now, after all the various things I have done in an attempt to diagnose the problem, the power button has no effect on the power supply whatsoever--the light stays green while the cord is in, and turns off shortly after the cord is removed.
If anyone has any further ideas to help diagnose this, it would be greatly appreciated! My dad is thinking motherboard because the power supply and the power switch revved right up when connected to the tester.

I think a surge came in through the network cable and has fried your network card. If you have a phone line into a modem, that could have also done the damage. Where is the network cable connected? To a removable card or off the mother board? Get the board in good light and look for burnt chips. blown capacitors and actual small hole in a chip, especially the network chip. Turn over your hard drive and see if one of those chips are damaged. Keep your hard drive out of the system while you experiment. Maybe your data is still safe.

Hp dv6000 will not power on

this has been a on going problem bit has gotten worse. it all started when one I started up my computer everything was fine booted up no problem. After I was done I shut it down. when I went to use it again it would not turn on at all.the power button did nothing. I checked to my sure it was all plugged and the led light around the plug was lit bit would still not turn on. Next morning it powered on fine as if nothing was wrong and work fine for quite a while until it recently it did it again an would not turn on for about 2 days and now it's doing it again. I tried hard resets making sure nothing is plugged in the USB ports etc etc and still have no idea what it is. On another note if the computer was left sitting for too long idle it was freeze up sometimes the screen would just go black. Any ideas?

had 5 week wait while being repaired, changed motherboard, processor, memory and finally the power button!
problem persisted and they eventually accepted a refund
still no idea what it was

HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer will not power on

My HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer (s/n CNF72132WJ, p/n GH783EA#ABU) will not power on - it gives 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps and then does nothing. I've been told that the problem is the NVIDIA graphics card but am unable to find this part in the HP Parts Store. Is the NVIDIA graphics card a separate purchasable item for an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer or is it integrated into the system board (p/n 443774-001)?
Where in the UK can I purchase either a replacement NVIDIA graphics card or a replacement system board (p/n 443774-001)?

The Nvidia graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard and you need to replace motherboard for the Notebook to work according to your diagnosis.
The Part# - 443774-001 is Out of stock and curent not available in HP Parts store however I just did a search for you on Ebay UK website and was able to find it in search results over here

Hp pavilion dm1-2010nr netbook will not power on

My hp pavilion dm1-2010nr netbook will not power on. It sits on my desk and most of the time I keep it plugged up. Now when I press the power button, the power light blinks 3 times. It does the same thing when I have it unplugged. It runs Windows 7 Home Prem and I have not made any changes to it. Is it possible that I have simply overcharged the battery or could it be something bigger?

Need Help HP DM3 (DM3-1130us) Laptop will not power on. No power at all except for light on a/c jack

Hello, I need some help.
I have a HP DM3-1130us Laptop that will not power on at all.
the only thing that happens when I plug it in is the power jack lights up.
When the power button is used absolutely nothing happens.
No power, no fans, no leds, no on/off cycles, no beebs, absolutely nothing
just the light by the power jack that says the cord is plugged in.
The laptop has Windows 7, 320gb hdd, 4gb ram.
I have tried new power adapter and still nothing.
I have taken the battery out and tried and nothing.
I've tried the option where you take the battery out and hold the power and nothing.
I have tried with different hard drive and no hard drive and nothing.
I have tried reseating the ram and tried new ram modules still nothing.
So I am kind of stumped on what to do, the laptop will just not turn on.
Its not under warranty anymore so cant send it off.
It has not been exposed to any elements(extreme heat or water).
and its never been dropped or anthing.
Im kind of wondering maybe the power button board its self is bad?
If feels fine, its not loose or anything but could it
have just stopped working? for those who are not familiar with this model.
the power button is on the side and is a kind of drag and release button.
Its also on the same board with the Wifi button and 2 Usb ports.
But Im wondering before I buy a new one if this is what it could be.
Or could the motherboard its self be bad?
But even if the motherboard is bad would it still power up
just not post?
Also does anyone know of any other way to try to power this laptop up
without using the slide button. I mean kind of like off a Dv6000 you can power the laptop on by using the Quicklaunch buttons on top but this laptop does not have those.
If anyone can provide any information I would appreciate it.

Hey Tyler,
Unfortunately it is difficult to troubleshoot this type of issue. The majority of the time when the computer wont power on with the same symptoms you described, the power supply board is faulty. Most of the time if the motherboard is bad it should at least turn on or so some signs of life. Like I said, this is most of the time. Sometimes it could do exactly what your experiencing. I would suspect the power supply board has failed since you are not receiving any sort of lights, sounds, etc.
You could check the motherboard for swollen capacitors or loose solder joints but sometimes you wont be able to find anything.

Disconnect the AC Adapter and Battery from the unit. Hold the Power button down for about 15 seconds. Then without the battery being connected, plug in only the AC Adapter on the unit and check if this powers on the unit. You can also try to reseat the RAM on the unit. You can find the removal procedures on the Service and Maintance guide on www.hp.com for your model notebook. In case the notebook does not work after these steps, it could possibly be a hardware issue on the unit.

HP Palion dv7 Notebook PC will not power up when power button is pressed.

My HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC will not power on when the power button is pressed. I have removed the battery, unplugged the AC adapter and pressed the power button for 15+ seconds then plugged in the AC adapter and pressed the power button for 15+ seconds. Then I release the power button and then press the power button again and the Notebook will power up and operate normally. I can reinstall the battery once it has powered up. What is causing this problem and how do I remedy the problem?

Unfortunately there could be a number of different things that caused that issue from drivers, software, possibly hardware. I am glad you got it up and running but there isn’t a clear picture of what actually caused. If a technician got the chance to work on it then they could at least narrow it down.

Laptop will not power on when power button is pressed

model: m6-1045dx
Laptop will not power on when I press the power button. It is fully charged. The only light that will come on is the light indicating that it is fully charged. I have tried removing the battery and then putting it back in but that did not work. I use this laptop for college and it is time to go back to school. Please help!

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
4-try power on

HP 60 will not power on ?

I dropped my HP 60 and broke my screen and I think a something else because when I power on my laptop the power light blinks continuously(this is while on the ac adapter) the laptop will not turn on without the adapter.... I took apart my laptop and did not see any broken piece. Aside from the screen which Im waiting to replace because I want to know if I have a more serious/expensive fix that is not worth the aggravation. I noticed that the bottom of the laptop where the fan is located gets very hot after a few minutes, but I hear the fan spinning? Or is the fan not actually spinning? I left the laptop on the charging adapter to see if I could get some juice into the battery and operate the laptop without the charger, but no luck.
I beleive it could be a battery and or fan issue, plus the screen... please help!

In your list: the chances of number 2 or number three are quite unlikely.
Solder type power jack replaced
Check for cold solder joints. Solder joints should be bright,not dull colored.
Did you try a hard reset before you started opening the laptop?
Always try to reset firmware (BIOS) before beginning any disassembly for a no-start condition.
Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
press the power button

I also recently purchased and installed a USB/power board connector under the impression that it was it was. This did not work so, to test the new power board, I tore apart the other laptop (which is also dead at this point for what we thought was the same reason) and put the board in it. It yielded the same results...nothing happened. So here are the possibilities that i can see...
   1. The new power board is defective.
   2. Both laptop motherboards are bad.
   3. Both power supplies are bad.
My question is, are there ways to test the power boards with a multimeter to determine if it's bad? Are there ways to test the motherboard?

My HP DV2000 series notebook will not power on. I replaced the power button, but system still will not go on. Adapter is ok. Blue light goes on when plugged in. Any ideas?
