HP Pavilion dv6626us needs a special bracket to connect the hard drive and I don't have one

HP Pavilion dv6626us Entertainment  Notebook PC
For US models a bracket is required to connect the SATA hard drive.
Is this bracket available?   Or are hard drives for this laptop specially made with an unusual sata connector?
(The specs for this laptop say the original hard drive is SATA 1.5 speed.)
I don't have the original hard drive or bracket.
I would like to use a regular sata laptop drive with this computer.
HP sells this item:     451862-001
(HP's description is below)
160GB SATA hard drive - 5,400 RPM, 2.5in form factor, 9.5mm thick - With mounting bracket for US models ONLY!
( HP wants alot of money for this hard drive  -- I hope there are other options.)
Can you help me find a bracket or tell me what my options are?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
You should be able to reuse the existing mounting bracket on the machine, no reason to buy another bracket. Please check the first manual (page #51) of the following link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&document=&product=3548378
HP does not make HDD's for personal computers (PC's & Laplops) You can check the brand and buy a similar HDD, should be much cheaper, you can also buy a bigger (capacity) HDD.
Hope this helps.

The circuit of my macbook is dead yet the hard drive is fine.  I need to access a file from the hard drive, how can i do this? The mac turns on the screen freezes as bright blue.  Is there a cable i can connect to another mac that will let me transfer the file?

There is another option if the Macbook will start up in Target Disk Mode.
Restart the computer while holding down the T key. If you see the firewire symbol moving around on the screen you can connect this one to another one in TDM. You will need a suitable cable to connect the two Macs.

They're in the iTunes folder, in iTunes Media or iTunes Music depending on when your iTunes was first installed. The iTunes folder by default is in My Documents/Music.

    Cloning And Backup Tools
A bootable clone is an exact copy of your drive which is capable of booting your computer.  Making a copy of your computer which is capable of actually starting the computer requires special copying procedures which simply dragging files in Finder won't achieve. Some people just back up data files but if you have problems you have to reinstall all your operating system and all your applications. With a bootable clone you just start up from the backup drive and clone back everything.
To clone one hard drive to another hard drive you can use:

  • I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to Mavericks OS.  The screen died and it's not worth replacing.  How do I remove the hard drive and use a drive sled to access info I need?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to the Mavericks OS.  The screen died and I took it into an Apple store and was told replacing the screen and the hardware to repair everything would cost almost as much as buying a new laptop or a cheaper model.  I was told that I can use a drive sled to access data I need on my hard drive. How do I remove my hard drive and use a drive sled to get to the information I need?  What makes matters more complicated is I need to update my iPhone and my iTunes/App store purchases.  How can I accomplish this?
My wife has a late 2008 Macbook Pro as well, which I am assuming I need to run my hard drive.  Is there a way to just access just my hard drive without interfering with hers?
I know this is lengthy.  Thanks to whoever looks at this and offers advice/instruction.

the device you need is an External enclosure for a 2.5" (laptop form factor) SATA drive.
A USB-interface enclosure will be slow, but is adequate for this task and for re-purposing as a backup drive later.  A firewire-interface drive would be faster, but is harder to find, more expensive, and faster than needed for this purpose.
The drive will mount as an "extra" drive on your wife's Macbook, and you can drag and drop whatever you wish. You could create a separate Account for yourself on her computer, and use Migration Assistant or just copy your stuff over to the new account. Then it would not interfere with her files.

  • What do I need to do after I upgrade the hard drive on my macbook pro?

I just bought a new 13" Macbook pro i5 on May/03/13 but I need more space and I want to upgrade my Hard Drive from the 500GB it come's with to a 750GB. So I just want to know the steps I need to take after I do the upgrade and start up my Macbook, Someone told me that the Macbook won't work right away because I have to do something to it, I just dont know what. Can anybody plz tell me what I have to do after I do the upgrade step by stpe? Thank You!
Oh and my Macbook pro is on OSX 10.8.3

Correct. After installing the new hard drive, your Mac won't have any operating system, so you will have to reinstall OS X using Internet Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To start in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting. Then, open Disk Utility and create a partition formatted with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", if it hasn't been already created. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If you want to copy all the data you had on the old hard drive into the new one, use Disk Utility's Restore feature > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html Note that you will have to buy an enclosure to put the old hard drive

  • Need Help: I want to change the hard drive in MacBookPro

Good day! I have a problem, I want to change the hard drive MacBookPro, but I do not understand how to make recovery disks of the existing system. The system of Mac OS Leopard 10.6.8.

You do not need to make a recovery disc, you just need to clone the hard drive that is currently in your mac to the new hard drive.  What you need to do is purchase an external enclosure for the new hard drive, plug it into the usb port and run a cloning program such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!  Then put the new drive in the mac.

  • Need to replace failing hard drive but I don't have RnR discs

The hard drive has started to fail on my brand new T500 with WIn7 Pro pre-installed. I have not had time to create RnR discs. Lenovo support says they are ready to ship a new hard drive but there is a problem getting the RnR discs put together with the drive for me. When the drive first started to fail, I tried to create the RnR DVDs but it seemed to be going nowhere.  I got 1 DVD created that I was told to label "Final SP". What is that?  There is next to no information available describing the process, but I'd like to take another crack at it in case there is a major delay in Lenovo replacing my drive and providing RnR discs.  Any idea how long it should take and how many DVDs? Any suggestions??
    Thanks.

OK. I took another look and I think I found what I need to create the Rescue discs... don't know how I missed it the first time around.  I will give it a shot.

  • My MacBook pro motherboard needs replacing (expensive!!), would I be able to remove the hard drive and have it put into my partners MacBook air?

My MacBook pro would not boot up, took to genius bar and tech tried everything to boot up, but no luck, he says it looks like main board has gone, It would cost £750!! He said if I wanted to purchase a new mac, they could transfer my hard drive to the new mac. My partner has a MacBook air, which they hardly use, so I was wondering if the techs would be able to transfer my hard drive from the pro to the MacBook air? Any advise would be appreciated

Not the Hard Drive itself! In the MacBook (Pro) you have 2.5" hard drives, and in the MacBook Air there are 1.8" (the older once) or special form factors SSDs (MacBook Air 2011). So the hard drive quite bigger in your MBP.
But the data could be transferred to the MacBook Air with an external enclosure, if the hard drive in the MacBook Air is big enough.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then partition and format the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one.

  • I have a 2008 Macbook.  How do you change out the hard drive from one macbook to another?  Maybe I just need the special screwdriver to get the hard drive out?

I have a 2008 Macbook.  I want to install a newer (used) hard drive into this one.  I think all I need is the special screwdriver to remove it, then install it.  Where can I get that screw driver?

There is some information on how to, plus some tool lists in the online iFixit guides for repair and replacement of parts, in these computers.

  • I need to install CS6 on a replacement hard drive and need help with deactivation/reactivation

I have had a major hard drive crash that is resulting in my replacing the drive in my Mac with a new one, then re-installing my programs onto it. I have a copy of CS6 on the current bad hard drive that is activated. Do I need to deactivate it before installing it on my new hard drive even though it will be on the same computer, just a different hard drive? If so, how can I deactivate it when the drive the Creative Suite is on is bad? Is there a place on Adobe's website that I can log in and manage my activations if I have to deactivate in order to put CS6 on my replacement drive?

hi. I have the exact same problem. I'm getting the 'configuration' error, and my uninstall application for each application with CS6 'can't be found' since it is apparently an alias. I'm not getting any answers from Adobe and getting frustrated. Would simply like to know how to uninstall or start from scratch. I'll let you know if I hear anything. I posted the question on the 'creative suites' forum.

Not sure if this applies to your region, but in Australia the SIM password is often written on the "credit card" sized plastic card that the SIM was provided to you with the phone by the telco. Do you still have this? It could be in the iPhone box?
