Hi,
Try the following to manually replace the driver for the optical drive.
1.  Download the following utility that will add 'Take Ownership' to the right click context menu.  The download is on the following link.
Take Ownership
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip  ( if you have a 64bit version of Windows, you will need this version 7-Zip ) which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.  Then just right click the zipped folder, select 7-Zip and select Extract Files.  When done, open the newly extracted folder and you will find the utility to add 'Take Ownership' to the right click menu.  Just double click it to install and then close the window.
2.  Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall and click the prompt to complete this.
3.  Click the Start Menu, open Computer, double click Local Disk C, open the folder 'Windows', open the folder 'System32', right click the folder 'drivers' and select Take Ownership.
Just below this folder, open the folder 'DriverStore', open the folder 'FileRepository', open the folder that starts 'cdrom.inf', right click the 'cdrom.sys' file and select Copy.
Close all open windows and then Paste this file on your Desktop.
4.  Once again, click the Start Menu, open Computer, double click Local Disk C, open the folder 'Windows', open the folder 'System32', then this time open the folder 'drivers', right click and select Paste.  You should now get a prompt that the file already exists - select the Copy and Replace option and click on any further prompts to complete this.
When done, close all open windows and restart the notebook - when Windows reloads let it install the device driver and then let it idle for a couple of minutes.
Check if the drive now works correctly.

DP-K

  • Graphics Driver for HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC for Win 8.1

    Hello Everyone,
I currently have an HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 Quad Edition with intel i7 and switchable radeon HD graphics card . I have made the jump from Windows 7 to 8.1 as I am a Current University student studying Information technology and have the need to be updated in terms of technology. I found Win 8.1 to run a bit faster on my PC than Win 7. I have ran into a couple of problems when upgrading to 8.1.
1.) I've been having an issue finding the correct and stable Video Graphics driver for my Radeon HD 6770M switchable graphics. I tried intalling the original Win 7 driver in the HP driver but does not work properly. I have also tried download a generic driver from the AMD Radeon driver website, but the screen is extremly dim when intalled and is almost impossible to use unless I hold a lamp to the LCD screen. The brightness function keys DO get reconized when pressed, but the brighness will not change no matter how high or low the brightness threshold is at.
2.) It is a bit out of topic, but I have also been having alot of trouble getting the validity fingerprint sensor to work with Win 8.1.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me with these issues or point me in the right direction in order to get them fixed. I am an IT student and have done alot of reasearch on these topics but have been unable to get them to work as intented.
P.S: I have read alot of fixes about brightness using regedit and edditing some values on specific registry entries. I have found them for many other pc manufacturers, but not for HP. Not an expert on registry stuff, but seems like many people get it fixed by doing so. Just an idea.

Due to the age of this model, HP is only providing drivers for Windows 7. After searching through the HP Forum, I was unable to find a satisfactory solution to your issue.

  • Rradeon HD 7690 dual-graphics doesn't work in hp pavilion dv6z-6c00 cto quad edition laptop?

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion dv6z-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC from HP's online store. The laptop was customized with a  Radeon HD 7690M discrete graphics card. There is a "dual-graphics" feature that allows a program to be configured to use either the low-power integrated graphics (a Radeon HD 6520G) or the high-performance discrete graphics (the Radeon HD 7690M). However, even when I set a program to use "high performance graphics", the program refuses to use anything but the low-power integrated graphics. When I use ATI's driver, it calls the card a "6700 series", and the card still does not work; when using HP's driver, it calls it the proper name, but the ATI Catalyst Control Center does not work (necessary to assign programs to the discrete card). There is no setting in BIOS to set the computer to use either card exclusively: in fact, there are no graphics settings, period.
Some examples of the games I have tried are:
    - Minecraft (I know OpenGL does not work with Dynamic Graphics)
    - Portal 2 (Direct X, so should work in theory)
Will I have to get the "special" BIOS update (outdated) that adds the setting for graphics switching?

I suggest dowloading and installing the latest driver for the radeon HD graphics module from the web support portal for your notebook.
What is the p/n for your notebook? (you can remove the main battery and get it from there or from the HP Support Assistant)

  • Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC hard disk failure imminent.

Lately this laptop has been running slow and hot. Just yesterday,  I recieved an error message on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO), saying "SMART Hard Disk Error" followed by a message telling me that the SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. It told me to backup my files and then press F2 and run a hard disk test. The Quick Test Passed. The complete test gave this error.:"Hard Disk reporting failure 301 Disk Name: Toshiba MK7559GSXP Volume C:/D:/F:/)". I am sure I will have to replace the hard disk. Right now it is a Toshiba 750GB SATA hard disk drive, 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch small form factor (SFF). Can this hard drive be replaced with a Hybrid SSHD like the following:
    Seagate Hybrid Drives ST1000LM014 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 2.5" Laptop SSHD
    or
TOSHIBA Hybrid Drives MQ01ABD100H 1TB+8GB(NAND Flash) 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Laptop SSHD
If not, what would be the best replacement hard drive that you reccommend?

    Hi,
You can put the second HDD on the second bay, existing BIOS can handle this BUT you need more hardware namely a caddy set (caddy & cables). You can buy from:

  • Headphone Jack Problem HP Pavilion dv6832tx Influx Special Edition Entertainment Notebook

    Hello.
My laptop has spontaniously stopped outputting sound to my head phone jack. I ran trouble shooting and came up with no problems. Checked the sound and could hear the chimes but not any other program; music, game or otherwise.
After a bit of searching I tried the fix on the Windows 7 discussion board and 'rolled back' the drivers for the headphones. Too bad it made things worse. Now my computer no longer registers that anything is plugged into the headphone jack.
I found a few other fixes on this website that suggested to redownload the audio drivers. However, I cannot find drivers that match both my Notebook model AND O.S.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6832tx Influx Special Edition Entertainment Notebook and run Windows 7.
How important is is that I have audio drivers for my specific model? Should I only worry about the O.S the drivers are designed for?
    All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi I have a HP Pavilion Dv4 laptop computer. My E:\ CDDVDW TS-L633M cd drive has stopped working. When I insert a new CD or an exiting cd into the cd drive, the computer displays a message to insert a cd into the drive. i Know that the cd that I'm inserting into the drive should be readable, but the computer doesn't recognize it. When I run the HP support assistant, and choose the HP Optical Disc Drive Check, I get the message "Insert media in : E:\ hp CDDVDW TS-L633M

    "Media Identification:
Wait while the media is being Identified."
Then another window is displayed with the message:
    "Media Identification
      No disc has been detected."
But I know that the disk is formatted correctly for my cd reader to recognize it.
    Please Help,
      -Ron

    Hi Ron,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • HP Pavilion dv6z-3000 CTO Needs CoolSense and it won't Install

    Product Number: WG457AV
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: Phenom II X920 (Lowered Voltages) / GPU: Radeon HD 5650M, Radeon HD 4200 / Hard Drive: HTS725050A9A364
    BIOS: F.29
The vent is cleaned, there is Arctic Silver thermal paste replacing the stock stuff.
The software posted for this machine has the old version of HP Support Assistant, but CoolSense 1.0 is nowhere to be found within that program.
I found steps from someone at HP (at the bottom of the page) and the CoolSense 2.0+ there just says the same error that everyone else got, "There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
In 65F-70F degree rooms the laptop is fine (66-69C CPU / 63-65C GPU / 37-40C Hard Drive). It doesn't shutdown though, the fighter. The problem is at higher temperatures:
My little heater idles around 67-70 Celsius on the CPU, 66-68 Celsius on the GPU, and 47-50 Celsius on the Hard Drive.
I've undervolted it, but the ambient air temperature is about 26.7 Celsius to 29.4 Celsius (80F-85F). Anything more than idle causes the heat to rise until the GPU seizes.
It needs to run in these temperatures.
Despite the hard drive being 10C from its maximum operating temp, and the laptop being too hot to touch, the fan does not go into its jet turbo mode. The fan can get WAY louder, yet with the CPU at 70+C it thinks it should save that for later.
"I don't want to bother the human with my 787 turbine, I'll choose death instead."
When I installed the new F.29 BIOS yesterday, the BIOS program put the fan into jet turbo mode. Obivously someone at HP knows how to do it. When I restart it after its died, the fan also goes to max on turn on. To mock me, I assume.
So: fan control with CoolSense required. Speedfan / HWiNFO / CPUCool all do not control the fan. The DSDT lookup table is gibberish to me (looks nothing like what others have worked with).
How do I get CoolSense or ANYTHING else to work?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Do you have CoolSense Pre-installed on your machine ? If NOT then your machine is not suitable for this software  (put this way: is not designed to use this software). Because it clearly says:
HP CoolSense Technology is a feature in some HP notebook PCs that combines hardware, software, and mechanical design to dynamically manage the temperature of a notebook, and help keep you comfortable while using it. This feature is available on supported notebooks that are running a supported operating system.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-2075eo Entertainment notebook pc - Can´t, get TV tuner working

HD went down, and after I made a recovery, I opgrated to Windows 8.(32 bit)
All driver for hardware were lost.
I´d found all drivers on HP´s site, but I can´t, get TV tuner working - can´t find hardware-
Can enybody help me with that?

I am going to be honest here. There is a good chance that not all hardware will be functional. This system was not designed for Windows 8 and was long before Windows 8.
With that being said, you can try this Vista Driver in compatibility mode. This is the driver for the express TV Tuner Card.
    1. Download the driver.
    2. Start the extraction process and take note of where it is getting extracted to. Cancel the installation once the extraction is finished.
    3. Navigate to this extracted folder. Right-click the setup/installer file and select Troulbeshoot Compatibility.
    4. Follow the prompts in the troubleshoot and select the automatic settings option.
    5. Select Test Program when prompted.
    6. Follow the installation.
    7. If no errors were presented, it may work at this point.
NOTE: This process may not work, but it is a good place to start.
If you were using Windows Media Center previously, you may need to find a different solution. It is not available by default and will need to be added separately to Windows 8.
Here is the link for Media Center for Windows 8. It starts off by adding it to Windows 8 Pro, but the actual wording of the special offer towards the bottom does not specify Windows 8 Pro as a requirement. It may be worth trying.

  • Hp Pavilion dv7 2030 ea - overheated and stop working. Charger cable in fire

I have this notebook that almost set my house in fire.
What is wrong with HP?? How COME THEY ARE HAVING THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICES? After I send a couple of complains about how lucky I was to be at home when the cable started to burn, nobody ever replayed.
With all do respect, HP is the lowest brand. Not only for the quality of the products but most of all for the Customer service. There is no such a thing.
I have posted some pictures on the internet - f.book. Check them out and watch out. This is serious!!

    Welcome to the new HP!
It seems that the entire dv7 line has overheating problems.  The support people I have talked with are worthless for properly diagnosing the problem.  Apparently if a machine shuts down due to excessive heating there is no error / log message to determine that overheating is actually the problem.
With as many complaints s they have had you would think they would design in a solution, but after receiving my new dv7-5000 I have determined that HP no longer has qualified designers of any kind.
I especially like the cute little design touches, all the icons that go to the ports are located on the inderside of the case, That does a lot of good!
By default the function keys are "reversed" .  To use F1 you have to use a double keystroke: Fn & F1.  Not only that the Fn is not a toggle.  There is a little fix, you can go into the BIOS and reverse it back to normal behavour.
Some keys, like the caplock & wireless key have a little light indicator, but the Num Lock key does NOT.
These are just a few complaints....
If they can;t get these things right how can we expect them to fix an overheating problem, slow disk drives, lack of USB3, external ports without proper seperation between connectors, or screw down connections.

  • Audio through HDMI dv7 Quad edition

    Operating system:

I wonder if anyone can give me an accurate answer since I cannot find one anywhere else. I am planing to buy some bookshelf speakers that will be connected to my laptop through an a/v receiver. Since the laptop does not have any digital audio output I thought about connecting it using HDMI but I am not sure if it will work as I hope for. My target is to use this HDMI connection only as an audio connection to provide signal to the receiver and further to the speakers but I still want my video to be on the screen (the build-in one).  I have seen in the user guide that there is an option in Playback Device menu to select HDMI device as a default playback device but does it work even if the video is not streamed to the HDMI? Can anyone answer if the setup I have described is feasible? I know that I can connect through 3.5mm jack audio output but I do not want to, that's why I am asking about HDMI.
PS. The receiver I want to buy is either Yamaha RX-V471 or Denon AVR-1312.
Thank you in advance for any relevant answer.

  • 2nd hard drive for HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Notebook - What do I need?

Hi, I have the HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook (Product # WV703AV). It has room for two harddrives but only came with one. What would I need in order to install the second hard drive? Would I need just a connecting cable or do I also need caddy or kit?
Also, could I get a solid state? Would my notebook support that or does it only use regular ones?
    Currently, I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I've got a 500GB hd (which came partitioned with hp tools/recovery).
Any help with what I would need for a traditional hdd or ssd would be greatly appreciated. I tried to look through other people's posts first,  but couldn't find anything specific to my model. Thanks for your time!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
The only place I know of where you can get a 2nd hard drive kit is from this vendor.
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345
Your notebook should be able to work with a SSD but I cannot guarantee it.
I really don't see any point in adding a SSD unless you make it the primary hard drive, and in order to do that, you would need to get a SSD the same size as the original 500 GB hard drive to use the recovery disks to reinstall the operating system.
Most folks get smaller SSD's and they use the W7 product key to activate a plain installation of W7.
If you can read all 25 characters of your windows 7 product key you can make your own installation media and use that to install Windows on a smaller than 500 GB SSD.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
