HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl won't start-up

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl with Windows 7 Home Prem OA. There have been no installations or upgrades made. Everytime I turn on my computer it becomes a black screen then it says "Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating disk. Hard Disk (3FO)" I don't know what any of this means. It also allows me to view system diagnostics so I can run a start-up and run-in test. My memory is 100% fine but the start-up is a failure. Please help.

Sounds like the hard drive has died, not uncommon in laptops. You can replace it with a retail laptop hard drive, but will need Recovery Disks to install Windows-hope you burned your set? If not you can >> order from HP for a small fee.
If you need help selecting a new hard drive post back. Just be sure to purchase one of at least as large a capacity as you have now (640GB) in order to use Recovery Disks. Can be>> larger capacity, but not smaller. Your>> Service Manual has instructions for replacing hard drive.

  • Pavilion G6-1b59wm won't start at all

Good day .. I have a Pavilion G6 that won't start at all when the power button is pushed. I've tried it on battery only, and with the power cord plugged in. Yet nothing.
Here is what I see: When the power cord is plugged in, the power LED next to the port is white. I press the power button and it momentarily flashes white (and the F12 LED flashes). Nothing else happens. No other LEDs lite, and the screen remains black.
    DIagnostic steps followed:
    1. Battery was removed, and unit unplugged. Power button held for 30 seconds, and plugged back in. Nothing.
    2. Battery removed and unit plugged into the wall. Power button pushed and nothing.
    3. Tried a different power cord, different battery .. nothing
    4. Removed the RAM boards, power button pushed .. nothing
    5. Removed the hard drive (RAM still uninstalled), power button pushed .. nothing
    Any further suggestions ?

  • HP pavilion dv7 microphone won't stay muted on reboot

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 P/N-A1L97AV with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I am having a problem with both the integrated microphone array and external microphone not staying muted when I reboot the computer.  I can mute system sounds and reboot that is still muted when I reboot, but not the microphones.  The only way to keep them muted is to mute all.  The reason this is a problem is that when I reboot, if I forgot to turn sound down I get feedback until I can mute the microphone.  I have not been able to figure out what has caused this but it is quite annoying, especially since I use the laptop with events for playback.  I do use the microphone for recording classes forweb-based classroom for elementary schools so I need it operational.

  • Pavilion dv7 3079wm won't power up with/without battery or ac cord

Tried to power up with a.c. cord or battery. Leads flash once attempts to start, then goes out.

I hope you folks won't mind my piggy-backing on this thread.  I have a very similar problem with a dv7 (belongs to my grandmother).
When I plug in the AC adapter, the small LED next to the socket usually does not light up, but will flash briefly when the power cable is removed.  The AC adapter is fine, because I've used it to charge and run my dv5 with no problems.  If I unplug and then plug the AC adapter into the socket repeatedly, eventually at some random point the LED will stay on.
    However...
The battery light is slowly flashing.  It flashes anytime the AC adapter is plugged in (whether or not the LED next to the jack lights up).
The computer won't power up.  It tries to for a second or two, then shuts down... as if the battery was critically low.
Now the thing that puzzles me -- The computer won't start up on AC power without the battery installed.  I can do this on my dv5 with no problem.  It does not require the battery to be installed.  I figured if the battery is completely dead in the dv7, that it may be confusing the system and not allow it to start at all.  But, trying to start up the dv7 without a battery does absolutely nothing at all.
I'm hoping that the dv7 is designed to always work with a battery and that all I need to do is just install a new one.  Does that seem sensible?  I just don't want to buy one (they cost a whopping $140 from HP!) only to find that the computer is suffering from a more serious problem.

    Hi @arkas
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having some graphic problems. Did you install that ATI driver from the AMD website? If so that is the problem. You have switchable graphics meaning that you have two video cards. The Intel card is designed for your everyday basic graphics processing while the ATI card is designed to handle the heavy lifting. Switchable graphics drivers are configured by the manufacturer of the notebook not the manufacturer of the graphics card.
I would suggest that you install your AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver and your Intel High-Definition Graphics Driver. If you are looking for more information on switchable graphics this HP document Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 1334us won't start after windows update, stuck in Error Recovery

My computer is an HP Pavilion dv6 1334us with 32bit-windows 7. The computer did automatic updates and when it started up said there was another one avaliable through WIndows Updater. I installed the update and it said the computer needed to restart for the update to take effect. I choose to restart and the computer wouldn't boot back up, it boots to the 'Windows Error Recovery' screen where my options are 'Launch Startup Repair (recommended)' and 'Start Windows Normally'. When I select the repair, it says it loads windows files, then goes back to the error recovery screen. When I choose to start normally, it freezes the second it trys to start, flashes a blue screen and then returns to the Error Recovery page again.

  • Pavilion HPe-510t won't start with new gtx660

I recently got a new PSU and GPU to upgrade the PC's gaming ability. PC came with a gt440, and I am upgrading to a gtx660. Power supply was upgraded to a Corsair 750M. The problem is when I go to start I get to the blue HP start screen and it just sits there. There are three beeps spread out by ~30 seconds each, and then the screen goes black with a blinking cursor icon in the corner. The PC came with windows 7 so it is not an UEFI problem.  Everything works fine when the old card is put back in.
Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi,
Trying running a full set of diagnostics without the gtx660 installed to make sure that your hardware is good.
It could be an incompatibilty with the video card and the UEFI level in your PC.  Your PC does have partial UEFI support.  Some NVIDIA 660s may have shipped with a video bios that require full UEFI support which your PC lacks.   You will have to check that possible issue with the video card manufacturer.
I did update the video bios on my GTX660 to allow for full UEFI support. I was informed by the manufacturer that my particular video card was not shipped with the full UEFI video bios support as it would not work in older PCs that were not a full UEFI support.
There is a bios update listed for your PC so be sure that you are at that level.
Try clearing the CMOS and see if that solves your problem.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1175eo Won't launch windows

When i start the computer up i get to a screen telling me that windows had a problem being launched, and it gives me the option to start in fail-safe mode or start it normally. Neither options works. It's goes as far as showing the initial windows loading screen, but then the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I tried doing a harddrive test but it wouldn't go past 0% and gave an error message.
Could this be fixed by doing a system recovery?
    This question was solved.

If you have received an error(303/301/3F0/Immenient HDD Failure/Smart DST Error) during Hard Drive Self Test, that confirms a hard drive failure, if covered under Warranty, you may contact HP and have the drive replaced, or purchase a new one.
The issue cannot be fixed by a System Recovery.

I grasp that you are unable to update the drivers manually that you receive an error " "WINDOWS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM INSTALLING THE DRIVER SOFTWARE FOR YOUR DEVICE"
    "ACCESS DENIED"  ".
You could also try a restore back to when it was working  properly.  HP and Compaq PCs - Restoring Windows to a Previous Point (Windows 7)
If that is not possible or does not work I would try installing the original drivers from the recovery manager and then run the HP Support Assistant   to obtain the HP updates.
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
If the issue remains, I suggest you do a full recovery back to factory.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl True Vision Webcam Capture?

    Hello,
I have a new HP notebook that meets all the system requirements for using Premiere CS5.5 and it has an integrated HD webcam that I cannot seem to capture with using any of the adobe products. I saw a thread that on location recognizes the webcam like it does on mine as well but that it is just a glitch and that in order to capture with a webcam it would have to connected via usb or firewire. I don't think this is totally accurate though because the MediaSmart software that comes with the PC captures and overlays effects and such just like you would be able to do if you had it set up right in premiere after effects onlocation etc. I was just wondering if anybody else has also tried to do this and got it to work?
I work in a professional studio and use the same software with professional equipment and I understand that your project settings need to be set up correctly in order to capture in premiere. ex: installed an AJA breakout card and after the install premiere has a preset for capturing with the device. So my question would be is there a way to set the HP MediaSmart Webcam up to be a capture device? I guess I could always capture with MediaSmart and then import to premiere but that's lame and I want to make my own effects and things around the facial recognition and stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Joe

Thanks for the feedback, however, I am not a rookie here and I and I am not having a problem with codecs at all, and yes I can bring footage in and edit it easily, I love using premiere. Also I have no problems hooking up a usb webcam or dv cam and capturinging, it's only the internal cam I have an issue with. I know it is prefferred to have a raid set up with high speed drives and all but if you check it's not required, that's the main reason I use premiere and not some clunky old school system like Velocity HD  Here is what it says in the specs "
7200 RPM hard drive for editing compressed video formats; RAID 0 for uncompressed"

  • Hp pavilion dv7 on start up says primary hard disk 1 fault, won't go to windows

    Hp pavilion dv7
    windows 7
message is hard disk 1 fault
seemed after installinharp inter a software it started giving error messages when starting computer up several times.

    Hi,
Turn on power, press F10 to enter BIOS mode, Go to Diagnostics and run Hard Drive Test if any test fails you need to replace the part.
The failure ID will either be a Smart or Disk Self Test failure - both would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Recovery Discs from HP won't start in my HP Pavilion Dv7

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 that I need to wipe clean due to spyware. I bought the System Recovery DVD's from HP and on them it states "to begin, insert the disc into the optical drive of your computer and follow the on-screen instructions." Unfortunately I insert the disc and I get the info from the disc to come up but no instructions. I have even tried to make the laptop run from the disc drive at start up. when I did that it wanted me to create system recovery discs. I do not need to make them, I have them from HP. Just frustrated on why the disc from HP are not doing as instructed.
Here is a picture of the screen I get when the disc are inserted:
I really do hope someone can help me I have been waiting to do this for weeks since I had to wait for the discs.
    Thank you,
    KC
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    You're very welcome, KC.
If you can't boot from the DVD, it could indeed be a bad disk.
Also, make sure you have disk 1 in first to boot from.
And yes, you should get a very brief message to hit any key to boot from CD, so watch carefully for it.
If you miss it you have to start all over again and reboot the PC.

  • HP Pavilion Entertainment won't start just shows blue screen

HP Pavilion Entertainment won't start just shows blue screen. Sometimes says missing operating system after changing boot order. I have seen error message 303. This happened after I couldn't stop coolncheap popups so I saved everything to another computer and did a complete restore. When I was in the process of getting it back to working order I allowed updates recommended and optional and then everything started.

Also pressing F11 won't take me to recovery
