HP Pavilion Dv7 4180ea Black Screen

Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion Dv7 4180ea and my problem is that last night I put my computer on sleep and today, when I turned it on, there was nothing but a black screen, even if the computer was working fine in the background.
I connected it to my TV through a HDMI cable and the laptop is just fine, everything works perfectly when connected to the TV,  but when not, the bloody screen won't turn on.
I searched what the problem would be, but I couldn't find anything relevant to my situation.
I tried a hard reset and then I took the whole laptop apart, cleaned it out, changed the thermal paste and everything, connected the display cable...and made sure it was properly plugged in and turned it back on, but no luck with the display, it is still black, even though the computer itself works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Flav,
I see that you're having issue with a blank display. I will try to help you with this.
As you've tested with another output source and it's working, this generally imply something wrong with the actual display.
Though you've taken it apart and put it back together may not have resolved, it it wasn't just a loose wire.
Anything software related, may not be viable to try, but you can still attempt a few things:
The remaining steps in here: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
This may have additional steps -Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays
Also, make sure that the graphics driver is up to date. There were also recent Windows updates effecting computers in various ways included black screens. If this happened recently (after updates), try a System Restore
If none of the above works, I'd advise contacting phone support for repair/replacement options.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx dark screen

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx.  It has been working great until I shut down, put it in travel bag, and tried to boot up once I was at my destination.  It gives a black screen, but I can faintly see the screen when I shine a light on it.  I can see the desktop when I attach an external monitor to it.
Could you tell me if my screen has gone bad and needs replacing or is it something else?
BTW, I am running windows 7, if that makes any difference and the only change that I made, program-wise, is having Carbonite upgrade my machine to their newest version of software. That was done about one week before I had this problem occur.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

i've had a quick look through myself and can't see the backlight either, you may have to purchase an entire LCD unit assembly which is very expensive (605337-001)
this can be purchased from the link below
    http://www.chilternitparts.com/productDetail?PartNumber=605337-001
unless somebody else know the part number for the backlight specifically then this is all i can advise

I tried to disconnect everything but nothing does work !
    Any suggestions ?

    Hi @Taqui3 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and issues with the LCD screen not showing on the display after fan replacement. if you can see the image on a monitor it is not the graphics card and could be the LCD screen or the cable.
Have you connected the Notebook to a monitor? Here is a document on how to connect to a monitor if you need it.
You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which could resolve the issue with the fans.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
I hope something here helps you.

Followed by 65 seconds of "nothing" on the screen, followed by the "log in" screen that stays on the screen until the desktop appears. The HDD light shows activity for about the first 30 seconds, then a flash or two for the next 30/40 seconds! From Sleep:65 seconds of black screen before the "log in" screen appears. HDD light has little or no activity until the "login" screen limps on the screen. I have tried disabling everything from the "Startup" via Task Manager and "Services" via msconfig (disable all except Microsoft products)I know from past experience, this is normally a driver issues...and I never install drivers unless they are offered by HP for the their HP laptop...So:I was offered an update from AMD when I finished installing Windows 10 "Home"…I ignored the first offer as I wanted to finish the total setup of "10" (UPDATE: AMD Catalyst Software Suite 15.20.1062.150715a-187146C)Over the past few days I have spent many hours trying to eradicate this black screen issueI have installed the AMD Catalyst update shown above, with no resolution...I then installed another update to the driver 15.20.1062.1002 which was offered by AMD ...still no correction...Right now I am back to my Windows 7 64 HP Display drivers (AMD Driver date 7/15/2015 version 15.200.1046.2) & (Intel® Driver date 05/27/2015 Version 9.17.10.4229)...which allow me the opportunity to go and get coffee before I see my desktop…I tried Windows 8 drivers from the HP website but that did not work eitherI disabled the Intel graphic drivers and the screen resolution was terrible!. I have not tried to disable the AMD driver.Does anyone have an answer?...looking at the post on this site, many have the same issues, so HP get busy...PS. many more issues with the 10 O.S. which show up in the "Reliability History" report, but most are corrected by disabling the respective "service" from the msconfig program. • Pavilion Dv5-1009el - Black screen and blink caps lock and block scorr

    Hi,
I just replaced the motherboard of my pavilion that reported an error as object. The purchased motherboard is new and hp original.
After having changed, I turn on the pc and work fine, i see the hp logo and enter to bios, after I turned off the pc without starting windows.
I inserted the battery and powered on the pc and returns to the old error, the LED of caps lock and block Lock blinks...
So I tried to update the bios from USB using winkey + B. The computer emits two beeps but does not read from any USB port and the LEDs go out for a while and then blink again.
    What can I do?
    Greetings,
    Enzo.

    Hi @shmurray,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand you are getting a blink pattern on the Caps lock LED, when you turn on the notebook. I am happy to help you with this.
I am including the page on the error codes for your reference: Blank Screen LED Error Codes
From that document the pattern you are getting indicates a memory problem. You said that you have tested the memory. What exactly did you try?
The document suggests reseating the RAM or trying a new set of RAM and then restarting the notebook. If you are still getting a memory problem after trying both of those things, ie a 3 blink code again, then it would likely suggest that there is a problem with the motherboard itself, either with the memory slot or one of the controllers related to memory.
In that case I would suggest contacting the technical phone support number at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Pavilion dv6-1230us Black Screen after installing Windows 7...Please Help

    Hi,
I recently installed Windows 7 and everything was working fine until my computer went into hibernation.   Before this, I installed all the drivers and software from the HP website for my computer for Windows 32 bit setup.  After my computer went into hibernation, my computer will not start up in normal mode; rather, it starts in safe mode only.  When its starts in normal mode, the screen just turns black and nothing happens.  The login screen comes up perfectly fine but after I login at startup, the screen just turns black.  Please help, I don't know what else to do whether it is a driver or software issue from the software from the HP site.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Hp pavilion dv6 laptop black screen

Hi all please is any one help me I have my hp pavilion dv6 laptop.
The laptop is working, have the necessary sounds after i
turn it on,but the problem is that the screen stays always black
..I connect the laptop to external monitor and it shows that everything is working properly. But It not working on laptop screen what should I do heplllllll

    Hi
I'll try helping you with this,
You'll have to give it for repair - display assembly replacement. The display panel might be at fault here as your system works good when connected to external monitor.
    But before that,
Do a hard reset first --
Turn off the computer by pressing SHIFT KEY while you click SHUT DOWN.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer, shut down system.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
    Next:
To confirm, connect it to other monitor & do a full extensive hard drive & memory test from BIOS, tap quickly F2 or F10 soon after powering on the system.
If all tests are passed, contact HP service center.

  • Dv7-3112sa Black screen

hy, the screen is completely black , I tried to connect it to an external monitor (VGA) and work , but when I tried to reinstall Windows gave me a blue screen and reset . I initially thought it display (LCD ) broke and I want to buy one , but now I'm not sure if it's GPU video card or LCD screen . If is videocard damage , can you tell me if I could order a motherboard directly from HP and a link from where I can buy . Thank you.

my friend bought a  dv7  pavillion notebook.
Just two months out of warranty it overheated, there was a quickening of the fan, the screen went black and since then it has not been possible to activate beyond the initial flashing led lights and the keys are locked. she rang hp and they  told her it needed a  boot disc which she then purchased .....but it  is still not working. I have noticed that there seems to be a lot  of problems with the pavillion dv7, is this being recalled
it should not fail like this so early out of warranty.
    please advise.

  • HP pavilion dv7-6c21nr blank screen

Please Help! My husbands Hp dv7 screen won't show up. The computer itself works just fine and I have been able to use the computer via the HDTV we have but I need his computer screen to start working again so I can do my quizzes and give the kids back the TV. The day before the computer was working fine and now the screen refuses to show up on the computer screen. I even downloaded and installed the new BIOS and it's still not working. I'm hoping we don't have to send his computer in to be fixed and there is quick solution to the problem

    Hello jschronce,
I see that you are having display issues with your HP computer. I have a couple of suggestions that may help with the issue. Here is a link with troubleshooting steps to correct common display issues. Follow the steps in the link and it may correct the issue.
The first step I would suggest is testing to see if the screen stays blank when inside the BIOS. This would let you know if it is a hardware or software problem.
Follow these steps to enter the BIOS of the computer.
    Power the computer off
Power it on and immediately start tapping "F10"
This should open the BIOS utility on the computer
If you are unable to get this screen on the laptop display that means it is an issue with the screen itself. Since the computer is working on an external display the graphics card should be fine.

  • DV7-3162nr Black screen/no LED code

Hey!  Running a DV7-3162nr--I cleaned out the fan a month ago and repasted the whole works, and its been running much cooler since, also swapped out the keyboard about a week ago.  Things were going great, but today, when I went to pull it out of hibernation, it refused to get up.
The touch-sensitive controls right beneath the screen are all light up, but unresponsive.  The battery light would stay on for 30 seconds, flash 6 times, stay on again, and the go dark; when I removed the battery, it naturally stopped.  The fan continues to run but Num/Caps lock are both dark, no flashing.
Any ideas?  I've tried hard resetting, turning it on and pushing f8/f2 numerous times, plugging in a new monitor, and reseating the RAM.  Thanks for your time!

    Hey @giollachriost ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your screen is blank on your DV7 notebook.
If an external monitor presents the same issue you're probably dealing with a hardware issue. This is typically an issue with the motherboard or GPU.
Unfortunately there isn't anything I can suggest that you have not already tried (another display and reseating RAM). I would suggest contacting the HP Phone Support line to schedule service for the notebook.

  • Pavilion dv6-3040sa, black screen, flashing caps lock

Hey all, In need of some help for a friend, her laptop has had this issue for a while now and only just come to me for help. Her HP Pavilion DV6-3040SA has an odd issue with it, if you power it up the display doesn't come on and the caps lock just flashes, it will continue to flash until the laptop is turned off. On the help section a flashing caps lock does not refer to any particular error. I've reseated RAM, tried hard resetting, reseated the CPU and it managed to power up, then after it was turned off, it wouldn't power up again and had the same issue, after playing with it some more it powered up and worked for 2 days, when it promptly stopped working again. Any reason for this issue?

Processor failures can be have inconsistently.  I have seen processor failures start with 1-2 second hangs in the OS to working one day and not at all the next.
