HP Pavilion dv7-4190us grounding issue

Hi,
My laptop regularly grounds me. I reckon it is because of its metal chassis. Whenever I accidentally bump the chassis, 50% of the time, I feel a light current. This is also noticeable on the laptop cover/monitor area. Any ideas regarding this? Thank you.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-3160US Fan issues

I woke up and turned on my HP Pavilion DV7-3160US which is less than 3 months old and it sounds as if the fan is loose and makes an awkward and annoying sound that stops after a few minutes  but anytime I move the laptop the sound returns while in movement.
Any ideas or suggestions? Also how long does HP normally take to fix computers? I'd hate to be without my computer for a while.
    Thanks.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4190us Bluetooth installation

This model doesn't have Bluetooth installed. I am planning to buy an internal module for this device. What do I search for on the web specifically to get one that is compatible with my unit? Thank you.
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
You will need to order the bluetooth module that is listed in your service manual.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02666747.pdf
Please see chapter 3, page 25.  You will need to order this one.
For use only with HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC 40xx computer models 537921-001
You will also need to order the cable...The Bluetooth module cable is available using spare part number 605323-001.
I hope you are ready for some major disasembly to install it.  See Chapter 4, page 87, and all the other pages necessary from there.
Parts can be ordered on line at the site below:
    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=61D96C6B74B9468D9D5ED0161584B318
The cable cost more than 2x as much as the bluetooth module!

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6025eo FAN ISSUE

How do I access the fan to a hp pavilion dv7-6025eo?? it makes sooo annoying noises, like some creep is attached to one of the blades and makes the fan instable... There are alot of guides on a dv-7 series notebook but none of them show on this model which has a different top cover... I just want to be able to see if there is something on the blades on the fan so I can remove it... did they really have to make it so difficult to access.........! thanks for advice

There ain't much left except the button board. If I recall, on that model the power button board is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable so there is no failsafe button on the motherboard. If the button board switch is bad there is no way to start it up.

  • Pavilion dv7-2270us Performance issues?

I recently bought a dv7-2270us laptop for christmas. When I first got it, it was running very quickly. Now, it's running slower. Is this inevitable when adding more software to your computer? Or is there something wrong with my computer? What could be causing it to run slower?
The main issues I have are when it's first starting up. It takes longer than it did at first. Again, is this just going to happen no matter what as long as I download more things on to my computer?
I still have over half of my C: Drive free- Not sure if that's significant or not.
Any info you have is appreciated, thank you for your patience.

    Hi
Please note that some softwares use background processes to work, what it means is when you install certain softwares no matter if you are using them or not they might run few services in background when your system starts and the more you install the more services need to run at startup and hence more time in loading.
In some cases even after uninstalling the software some services still may run for no reason, after all humans make these software and they make mistakes and leave bugs.
What you need to do is choose softwares carefully and only from trusted companies/sources/websites.
One more thing...i do something that i dont think mostof uses follow but its working fine for me.....
If you want to try a lot of softwares which you might not use and uninstall then i suggest you make a restore point in your system. If you dont like the software and feel to unstall it..then unstall it and restore your system to the previous restore point you created..In this way you will get rid oif anything that software might have left for your system to slow down.

  • Hp pavilion dv7 hard drive issues

I have an HP Pavillion dv7 Notebook PC(product number: XG834UA#ABA) that is currently displaying an "imminent failure" warning in the form of a SMART hard disk error (Hard Disk 301).
I ran a Primary Hard Disk Self Test where it passed both Quick and Full test but failed the SMART check (again at Hard Disk 1 SMART 301).
It isn't making any particularly strange noises (clicking etc.) and I guess it is also important to say that I am no longer under warranty.
I have already backed up (and removed) my documents onto an external drive for safe measure.
I am completely new to this type of thing so some words of advice as to what to do would be greatly appreciated. I live only 30 minutes away from the Atlanta HP Support Center but I'm not sure they will repair a laptop not under warranty, even if I have to pay a fee.
Where would I begin fixing it? As a college student with online portions of class, I'm afraid of how this will affect my schooling and registration.
The hard drive is a SAMSUNG HM641JI.

I would replace the hard drive. That is a 640 gig 5400 rpm drive and you can get a bigger faster drive for a reasonable price.

If the computer is still working well enough to boot into Windows you can do a complete system backup and recover all your data, settings, programs, etc onto the new drive or we can help you do a disk clone of the old drive to the new.
Since your laptop will actually hold two hard drives simultaneously you could even put the old drive in the secondary bay so you have a copy of all your old stuff right at hand.

  • Pavilion dv7 horizontal lines - Display going bad?

DV7-7025dx bought in 2012. Today, on boot, horizontal lines right from the moment I turn it on. Lines are so bad I can barely see anything. Booted into windows - lines still there. After a few minutes they cleared up. Powered down, removed battery, reset bios, rebooted. Still there. Is the display/adapter going bad?

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and issues with the screen flickers and going pink and green. Here is a link to a document that will help you troubleshoot the image on screen flickers, has lines or distorted colors. Have you connected a monitor to the Notebook to check if it happens there as well? Here is a link on how to clean the fans as this could be an issue. If this does not display on the Monitor it could be a connection issue with the LCD screen or the inverter cable. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks.

  • Pavilion Dv7 4165dx Hard drive failure and performance issues?

I have a pavilion dv7 4165dx notebook that was working great until a couple of months  when the performance of my machine started to decrease rapidly. I have performance issues with the machine because it takes 1 to 2 minutes to get from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and another 3 to 4 minutes for it to be ready to use. I already upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb but instead of going faster it goes slower and i also did a clean install of windows but it didn't help. Before i have problems it took maybe 30 to 50 seconds to go from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and 1 minute and 30 seconds to be ready to use and by the way i use soluto to tell me when the machine is ready for use. Then last week i notice that the headphone jack wasn't working properly so i contact hp and they told me to send them the laptop so i did, they replace the motherboard and they  send it back to me and i just got it today it got a little better but it still lags on the welcome screen and to open programs. I check the memory using memtest 86 and the memory it's fine, but i check the hard drive with HDD Regenerator 2011 and it show i have one delayed sector. Then i check on hd tune pro and it show me some WARNING on section Calibration retry count( as you can see on the picture below)  so my question is should i be worry and send it back to hp or what can i do to fix the problem i am having with this notebook?

I have the same laptop and have had issues with it since the day i brought it home. I have had it for a year now and am now replacing the hard drive for the 3rd time. My guess would be its your hard drive because most of the issues you seem to be having ar the same ones ive been dealing with for a while. I can say I'm very mad about the quality of this laptop and am in the process of  battling with HP over this issue. If you have a chance go online and look at all the hard drive issues that this laptop has had and even look at the HP forums for this issue it will irritate you and make you wonder why this hasn't been fixed yet!

    Hello!
I've just decided to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv7-6c09tx Entertainment Notebook PC to Win 8.1 pro.. Bit of an effort to say the least!
    Installed all drivers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4132&lc=en&cc=au&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5219...
..but the gfx wont install giving error this computer does not meet min requirements.  All seems to work ok thpough until I try getting widi to work.  nightmare!  Can HP support pls provide correct config to use ie. supported driver ver for widi to work?  the widi app says some xomponents may be missing after using the recommended widi update app for win 8.  Now I can uninstall- it gives a msi error...
    thanks

    Hi @trevevs
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help.
As you stated there is not any updated drivers for Windows 8.1 on the driver page for your notebook only for Windows 8.
This tells me that it is unsupported on your notebook as it has not been tested by HP.  This does not mean it will not work.
Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
I grasp that all is working well except for the WiDi.  Have you done all your Windows updates?
Windows 8.1 has WiDi built into the Operating System.
Introducing Intel® WiDi on Windows 8.1
Here is a link to Intel® WiDi Software Setup for Windows* 8.1
Here is a link to Intel Wireless Display (Intel WiDi) download page.
    I hope this helped.

  • Scrolling issue on HP Pavilion DV7-4270

RE: HP Pavilion DV7-4270; Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
    Scrolling issue:
As my finger reaches the bottom edge of the Synaptics Touch Pad, I lift finger to begin scrolling at top of touchpad again, but it will not scroll until I tap on the touchpad.  Tapping was not necessary in the past to begin scrolling again. This occurs in one-finger and two-finger scrolling. It states the latest driver (15.3.29.0 from October 2011) is installed.
Maybe there is a conflict with Microsoft and Logitech software for the external mice. If so, this is the only conflict.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for such a quick reply, unfortunately, disabling tapping did not correct the scrolling issue. Any other suggestions?

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC graphics card issues

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC (Product number: QG704EA#B1A) with an AMD radeon HD 6700M graphics card. Most of my games crash, im always given a graphical error, i experience freezes, lagging and general overheating. This only happens when playing games.
I have done every update Intel, radeon and hp offers and nothing works including bios updates. All my research tells me its just a bad compatibility with the graphics card. Can that really be true? Have i wasted over a thousand euro on just bad hardware??
My warrenty expired already, i had no idea this could happen with a laptop.

  • Pavilion dv7 keyboard issue

    Product Name: Pavilion dv7
    Product Number: QG703EA#B1A
Recently purchased, which IMO has an issue which is probably a BIOS-solvable one. There is a setting in the BIOS, named "Action keys mode", which:
    - when set to "Disabled", action keys work as normal function keys (F1 to F12), without requiring "Fn" to be pressed.
    - when set to "Enabled", action keys work as action keys and in one wishes to make them work as normal function keys (F1 to F12), he has to press "Fn".
This setting however does not apply to "Ins" key. Regardless of the "Action keys mode" setting, "Ins" always requires "Fn" to be pressed, something which is not acceptable for everyday use.
IMO this is most of the time a setting which will be set to "Disabled" because when working on a computer, most of the time one needs the function keys to work as function keys and not as action keys. Have in mind that this is a computer, not an mp3 player, so one would want to quickly access F1-F12 and Ins, not Brightness controls and PrintScreen.
If anyone from HP support sees this post, please pass this issue as a bug report to the appropriate support team.
    Thank you
