HP Pavilion dv7-6b78us Sound Problem (sound routes to built-in speakers during voice chat)

I'm having an issue with my laptop. When I play using Steam with headphones plugged in, and  I attempt to start a voice call, the sound routes to the built-in speakers and I cannot switch it back to just headphones.
I tired unplugging and replugging the headphones, that didn't work, and  turning down the speaker sound made the game sound not go through the headphones. What could be wrong? Restarting fixes the issue, but it happens everytime I attempt to voice chat...

This used to happen to me when I 1st purchased my laptop. Heres a solution that worked for me.
RIght click on your audio icon next to the clock, then left click the "Playback  Devices" option.
On this window, look for the tab named "Communications" at the top. Heres a screenshot: http://puu.sh/4OtOO.png
When on this tab, click on "Do Nothing" this will prevent windows from switching your headphone to the speakers everytime you get a new notification.
Cheers.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1130us IDT HD sound card problem: recording levels too high

I have been trying to get the IDT HD sound card in my HP Pavilion dv7-1130us laptop to allow me to switch from "microphone" to "Line In" input signal. I cannot find an option anywhere in the laptop do this. There is not a separate Line-In jack on the laptop. The mike jack is it.
The reason I'm trying to change the input setting is that I am using Audacity/Lame (the Win 7-compatible Beta version) to convert old cassettes to MP3. My laptop came with Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) earlier this year.
The problem is that recording levels are way too high using the mike input and so the recording comes out harsh and distorted. I have tried all possible recording level adjustments on the tape deck (no option), IDT sound card control panel, Windows device manager, etc.
From what I am reading on the online Audacity forums, using a mike input will cause the recording levels to be too high, and the setting has to be changed to "Line In" and not "microphone." Is there not a way to do that with this laptop and sound card?
The HP Support Assistant tells me that the driver for my sound card is up-to-date.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I've been trying to find a solution on my own for a couple days with no luck.

    Hi Amanda,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Hp pavilion DV7 blue ray problems

    hello everyone
My pavilion DV7 stopped playing blue ray dvds after upgrading to windows 7. it work perfectly with all other media but when i put blue ray dvd will not recognize it or play it. in device manager i have: optical BD ROM BD-5500s ATA device.
is there a special driver for it of what may be the problem it use to work before.
    thanks

    Hi,
One possible cause is that there is a problem with the Blu ray laser, but I would definetely try the following to see if it resolves the issue.
Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 is now available for HP notebooks and can be downloaded on the link below - save the installer to your downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53029.exe
When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features and uninstall HP MediaSmart DVD if you see this in the list of installed software ( if you don't have this software installed, go straight to installing Power DVD 10 ).  When the uninstall has completed, restart the notebook and when Windows has fully loaded, double click the PowerDVD 10 installer to begin the installation.  Again, when the installation has completed, restart the notebook and then try a Blu ray disc.

  • Pavilion dv7-3155el eSATA problem

    Hello,
I've recently bought an external hard drive, a Seagate GoFlex Pro with an eSATA adapter module; when I connect it to my notebook, a Pavilion dv7-3155el (product code WG610EA#ABZ with Windows 7 64bit), at first the device is detected by the system, but after a few second Windows becames unresponsive for a quite an then the device it disappers. It happens often that the device starts apparing and disapperaring in a sort of loop. Sometimes Windows asks me to format the drive, but even this action is useless since after formatting, the drive disappers again.
I've tried updating the firmware from revision F.15 to F.1D A, but this has not resolved the problem.
If I change the external hard drive connector module to USB 2.0, the drive works well, but I would like to take advantage of eSATA greater speed to perform my backups.
I thank you for any advice you can give me...
    Alessandro

I've just tried to install the last version of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver (sp46531); now, when I connect the external esata harddrive, it is detected and the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Console opens showing the three disks of my notebook (two internal ones and the Seagate GoFlex), but if I try to use it, the system hangs for about 30 seconds then the screen goes black and then back again after the system restores the NVidia driver which is signalled to e crashed.
The external hard drive continues disappearing and when reappers, the system hangs again.
I've been able to save a report from the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Console; I'm writing it down here after:

  • Pavilion dv7 keyboard replacement problems HP Pavilion dv7-4069wm

Hope I can get some help. HP Pavilion dv7-4069wm, windows7 64bit. Ok, the sad story, I spilled a drink on the keyboard. Did not seem to mess anything up but the keyboard. First mistake, bought a used one off ebay. Turned out to be the wrong one, screw lugs on back did not match. Bought a second one, it seemed to work the first couple times I used it, backspace key would not work, then nothing worked. I did break one of the little tabs on the zif connector and used some tape like I found in another post. Could this be a connection problem, or just a cheap keyboard problem? I am smacking myself for the spill anyway, so ANY help is appreciated.
I forgot to ad, I am using this laptop as a media center, I currently have a wireless keyboard and mouse I use with it, and it works well, one concern being that on this laptop I can only turn on the wifi with the wifi key on the laptop keyboard. Is there a way to go into bios or a workaround to turn on wifi other than the laptop keyboard? I have the laptop power settings to put it to sleep when not in use, but If it would get shut off, not sure how I would get the wifi restarted if it did not automatically come back on.

use windows mobility centre to control Wifi. May require wifi to be turned on via dedicated key for first instance before it can handle toggling of wifi but may not so worth inspecting & setting up.
Problem with broken connector is probably cause of keyboard issue, the tabs don't just hold cable but also push it against contacts so you may need to revisit & improve your solution to this ribbon connector.
Have come across damaged connectors before & been able to use them by adding thin tape to top of ribbon making ribbon tighter fit in socket & contact better & also use some tape across top of connector socket & onto ribbon to hold it in place.

  • Hp pavilion dv7-4273us keyboard problem

On my HP Pavilion DV7-4273us and has Win7 Home Pre, my keyboard has turned into one big shortcut board.  While typing if I press "E" My Computer pops up, Space bar all windows close as if in peek mode, "L" locks the computer, ect... I have used Windows Update to see if the driver was out of date, Device Manager and uninstaled it and reinstalled it, looked through the Ease of Access but nothing seems to be working.  If I restart it might work fine for 2 minutes or so.  What can I do?

Went to another computer and opened Ease of Access Center and looked at every check box and did the same and worked for a little bit than back to where it was.  I think I have narrowed it down to the windows key.

  • My sound is coming from my built in speakers instead of through the headphone jack.

I have an Envy 15 1270ca and last night it froze while I was listening to music, forcing me to manually shut it off by holding down the power button. When the computer came back on, my sound was coming out of my built-in speakers instead of my external speakers through the headphone jack. I checked the speakers through my mp3 player, so I know that they are working, so it seems to be the jack which is not working.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Pavilion dv7-2180 eg SRS Sound problems

I have a dv7-2180eg and am having problems with my SRS premium sound since I upgraded to Windows 7.  I flashed my bios and went back to the previous version.  I also uninstalled my audio drivers and reverted to an older version.  Nothing has worked.  The drivers say they are high definition drivers, but all it recognizes is the two speakers rather than all three, which results in incredibly tinny sound because the third speaker is where the bass comes from.  Does anyone have any ideas?

  • HP Pavilion Dv7 Windows 7 No sound through headphone jack or speakers

Hello. I have been having trouble with the sound of my laptop for quite some time.
I discovered this forum, and was trying to find my laptop's problem, except I found that I could not find a thread that pertains to my laptop's individual problem. As stated in the title of this thread, my laptop does not play sound through the headphone jack or speakers. However, when I plug in a usb headset the sound works. I want to rule out the possibility that this is something I can fix myself before I have this computer sent in to be repared.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software that runs the sound (I forget what it's called). I also tried turning off the laptop, removing the battery and holding down the power but ton for 30 seconds; that didn't work. I have tried making headphones and speakers the default audio, except that didn't work either. It seems that maybe my laptop is just broken, and this is the second time this has happened. (The second time, what the hell!)

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC. Sound Glitch!

    Windows 7
    Serial number: {Private Information Removed}
    Product number: QC333PA#ABG
When I plug the charger into the notebook, the normal sound from the notebook (such as music, audio ect) disappears and instead I get this constant "tick" pulse every halfsecond untill the notebook is restarted WITHOUT the charge pluged in.
I recently went on a software purge and got rid of everything and anything which I thought could be the cause of such a strange bug and the "ticking" stoped for a day or two and it only came back?!
The "ticking" pulses are audio only, and can be heard either in headphones or from the speakers. But no other audio can be heard at the same time. At full volume there is only a loud constant "tick" pulse every half-second.
    So... any advice?

  • HP Pavilion dv7-2177cl No surround sound after installation of Windows 7! Worked in Vista though.

I did an install of Windows 7 laptop came with Vista. I used all of the HP drivers from there site and everything is up-to-date. I use my laptop as a media player and have it connected to my TV via an HDMI cable and I have my TV connected to my receiver via an optical cable. It worked perfectly when I Had Vista installed and now it’s only stereo no matter what I am playing. Ive tried everything I can think of and nothing works. I cant even get the subwoffer thats built into the laptop to work.
After searching the web I see this is a common problem for all users across all platforms. Does anyone know if HP fixed this issue??? Or does anyone know of an update for the IDT HD Audio Codec that will fix it?

I saw your post regarding the problems with your notebook after you close the lid and reopen it. I will be happy to help. I have a couple of things for you to try. First we are going to reset your power schemes to do that go to your Start Menu and search for cmd and hit enter. Then in your Command Prompt type “powercfg /resetdefaultschemes”. You will then have to go change you power plan settings so that when you lose the lid it stays on. This HP document Managing Power Options will show you if you need a visual.

  • Pavilion dv7-4190 audio problems

I have the 64 bit dv7-4190 and when I am looking at a movie or playing music the audio intermittently gets a momentary honking or bleeping sound and the sound level highers and lowers on its own.

    Hi,
This can sometimes be caused by a build-up of static.  Shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Now hold down the power button for a good 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook to see if this has helped the issue.
    Best wishes,

  • Pavilion dv7 (new) Keyboard Problems

3/15/11    I have a brand new dv7-4287, purchased thru Sam's Club.  It is less than ten days old, and am having ALL of the same problems many others have described:  spacebar is the WORST, but shift keys and other keys do it sporadically, too.  Spent 1hr with a very helpful Tech Support guy last night, uninstalling BIOS and Touchpad drivers, then dowloading and reinstalling new drivers for both.  T.S. guy was awesome, not his fault, but the reinstalls did NOT solve my problems at all.  Spacebar seems to have big "dead" areas where no matter how many times I strike it, it won't advance the cursor.  Other areas it works pretty well.  My right shift key only works if I am very careful to hold it down for a second before typing the letter that I want in Caps.  The left shift key works, then doesn't work, then works..... on and off.   Some other keys work with very little stroke pressure, and some need to be hit hard.  What is annoying is that in this $1,1000 computer there is NO consistency to the keyboard and touchpad problems.   The store demo seemed to work fine, but maybe I didn't really give it a thorough test and would have noticed if I had typed more and cruised around Win7 less.   This is definitely a mechanical issue, not a software driver issue.   What are my options, other than to return it for another one or a refund? Also am wondering how long it will be before my keys start to wear and become unreadable as others have mentioned, or just fall off altogether.  REALLY disappointed in HP quality out of the box.

    Hi,
You may return it to the shop and ask for a refund.
