HP Pavilion Dv7 No sound through Headphones.

Hi,
The speakers work fine, but when i plug in the headphones I dont get any sound, maybe an occasional loud click when i insert the jack.  I tried disabling and renabling the playback devices but still nothing.
Help would be appreciated, the laptop is a day old and headphone use is essential for me.

Are you certain you are plugging in the headphone and mic plug into the correct jack?

  • Sound Through Headphones Stops

I have a Pavilion Dv7-6b01TX and recently I have been experiencing an issue where after a while, the laptop refuses to play sound through headphones, even when there's a pair of headphones plugged in. I've seen other problems like this, and the solution is to reinstall the sound drivers, but I have already done this 3 times. The only solution is to restart the laptop, but that is purely temporary and only lasts a couple of hours, at most.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I assume the guitar has electronics? If so, you must have some sort of ground loop. However, recording an acoustic using the electronics will not give the best acoustic sound, if that is what you are after. A mic on an acoustic will give a much more pleasing acoustic sound.

  • HP Pavilion Dv7 Windows 7 No sound through headphone jack or speakers

Hello. I have been having trouble with the sound of my laptop for quite some time.
I discovered this forum, and was trying to find my laptop's problem, except I found that I could not find a thread that pertains to my laptop's individual problem. As stated in the title of this thread, my laptop does not play sound through the headphone jack or speakers. However, when I plug in a usb headset the sound works. I want to rule out the possibility that this is something I can fix myself before I have this computer sent in to be repared.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software that runs the sound (I forget what it's called). I also tried turning off the laptop, removing the battery and holding down the power but ton for 30 seconds; that didn't work. I have tried making headphones and speakers the default audio, except that didn't work either. It seems that maybe my laptop is just broken, and this is the second time this has happened. (The second time, what the hell!)

    Hello Pandabear277 and MicrosoftUser,
What is your product number and operating system?
    Thanks

  • Pavilion DV7-3090eo sound problem

    Hi,
I have a major problem that I need help with ASAP!
I just bought my first HP ever and as soon I came home and turned it on I realized that I can't use Skype and watch a movie or play a game at the same time because I use headphones in respect of my roommate. I need to solve this really quick because it's starting to get on my nerves. The sound from the game or movie goes out in my speakers and skype in my headphones.
When I don't use Skype all the sound is in my headphones.
    I have a pavilion dv7-3090eo, Windows 7 x64 and drivers from oct 20th 2009 (the latest I could find).
I have also tried to switch so my headphones to be my standard audio output but then all sound died and I had to restart my system.

    Hi,
Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Audio, Video and Games Controllers
and find there IDT audio card. Click on it with right button of Your mouse and choose properties.
Then go to ' Details ' tab and paste here Hardware ID .
Below You've got example how to do it:

  • M9177c: No sound through headphones

Hardware: HP Pavilion Elite m9177c, connected via HDMI (audio and video) to HP w2408h (LCD Panel). Sound is currently coming out of the LCD panel's speakers via the HDMI cable. I'd like to be able to use headphones through the desktop's front jack.
When I connect headphones to the front panel jack, there is no sound through the headphones, and the playback devices show that the "Realtek HD Audio 2nd output" (The icon is shown as headphones) and the status is "Not plugged in". In fact - nothing happens at all.
How can I enable my front panel headphone jack?

I have the same problem, only mine is a pavilion a6750f, plugged into a HPw1907 with VGA.
For my thing, playback devices would always assert that the speakers are plugged in and working, and then if you plug in headphones, the speakers shut off but...nothing comes out of the headphones.
Not the same problem you say? Well, I went into Realtek HD audio manager, and changed the settings to "make front and real audio panels playback two different audio streams."  That made my situation identical to as described above.
I did some research online, and it seems to be a common problem plaguing computers with some combination of Vista, Realtek HD Audio Manager, andtwo different audio panels...but no official word from anyone.  The only solution that seems to work is this: http://www.rm.com/Support/TechnicalArticle.asp?cref=TEC949416 but that seems to only be available on some previous version of Realtek's drivers, which I have yet to find.  After an ungodly number of hours spent uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and messing with options, I've gotten every possible combination of results...but never any sound out of the headphones.
I eventually gave in and bought a $20 USB sound card to use, but I'd really like to be able to use my front panel as it was intended.

  • No sound through headphones/microphone ALC892

I've been trying for days to fix this issue, and am lost.  I've got a new desktop and cannot get sound to come out my headphones, or take input from my microphone.  I believe my sound card driver is installed correctly, and that it is a pulseaudio problem.  I've gone through the troubleshooter on Arch's alsa, and pulseaudio wiki pages.  I do get sound through my monitor speakers when I use HDMI, but would prefer headphones.  I have tried Debian, Linux Mint, Manjaro, and crunchbang and none of them have had working audio for me.
where I see a problem is in pavucontrol, all my profiles, and input/output devices say (unplugged).  So in output devices, and next to Headphones it says (unplugged) when it is plugged in, same with my mic.  i see the visualizer playing to the music under headphones though.
    everything is unmuted in alsamixer.
I've tried both the front panel mic/headphone port, and the back panel.
    thanks in advance.
EDIT: i did get sound to play through my roommates USB headset, they have there own sound card. So sound does work, but I cannot always use these and still want to get sound through my headphones/mic.

Perhaps you have previous configuration files on your system (~/.asoundrc or similar)? You might want to look at you mapping of signal paths/jacks with hdajackretask found in alsa-tools (Frontpanel might be inactive on your particular hardware setup). Double check if correct module model is loaded for your card (line 36).
If you kill pulseaudio, does aplay produce sound?
To unload jack detection module this should work:
    pacmd unload-module module-switch-on-port-available
Some people have issues with pulseaudio since upgrade to 5.0, so checkout changelog for configuration changes, here in forum there are several topics on this matter.

  • Windows 7 on my iMac won't play sounds through headphones

On Windows 7, I can't make sounds play through my headphones plugged into the audio jack; the internal speakers always do it instead. The headphones don't appear in the "Playback devices" column, even though RealTek recognises that something's been plugged in/unplugged to it.
Also, the latest version of Boot Camp software drivers I burned to a DVD after upgrading to Lion (v.4.0) refuses to start; it keeps saying that 'Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"; I was able to install the v.3.0 drivers by using "Troubleshoot compatability" within the Drivers/Apple/BootCampx64 before, but now it insists I use setup.exe- which refuses to install, even in compatability mode!
It's incredibly aggravating, since I always use my good headphones for gaming so I don't disturb my wife! Help!

So the Bootcamp 4.0 drivers won't work with my 2008 iMac? I'm running 3.3 then, and the problem persists.
I've just tried uninstalling the RealTek drivers; Windows seems to auto-install a "High Definition Audio Device" that DOES play sounds through the headphones... albeit incredibly quietly. Barely perceptible at full volume. I've tried to install the Cirrus drivers from the 4.0 Bootcamp disk; they claim to install correctly (in less than a second, which makes me skeptical), but they still don't appear.
It seems I can have Realtek and no headphones, or no Realtek and minimal sound...

  • Can't get sound through headphones

I cannot get sound through earbuds

Couple of things to check here.
    1.  Toggle volume buttons on headset
    2.  Check sound settings
    2.  Try a different headset to rule out the phone
    3.  If a second headset does not work check the headphone jack for debris
    4.  If no debris, and the phone is still under warranty, contact Apple Support or go by an Apple Store for service

  • No sound through headphones

Here's the problem: I can't seem to get the sound through my headphones in stead of the built in speakers.
I go here: Preferences -> Audio -> Sound Out. All I can choose is Built in speakers. I can't chose wether I want the front, the back or headphones. I have even tried with different headphones.
I just bought my Mac, so it is still new to me. However, this used to work when I first got the thing.
I have had a sound card and a USB MIDI keyboard connected, but not now. Maybe that is what messed it up?
There are many disadvantages to this situation, one being using GarageBand. I am trying to record in GB using the built in microphone. It works fine when not plugging in my headphones and using the built in speakers instead. But it is obviously no good, as the sound from the speakers get recorded too. And when I plug in the headphones, GB stops recording. Well it records, but no sounds gets in.
When listening to iTunes, it makes no difference wether I plug in the headphones or not.
Have I accidentally changed the settings for the Headphone In or something? I have a suspicion, that it might think it should be a Sound in in stead of sound out. I don't know. If so I can't seem to find the place to correct it, not in the Mac settings, not in the GB settings. What am I missing?
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

    Hi again
Nevermind - I found out that I should set the Sound in to Out. Not the most user friendly interface I've seen... Sorry.

  • X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS

    <FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>UPDATE: To Creative employees
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Please respond to this thread and try to sort this issue. Is bad sound from "headphones"+CMSS On due to a limitation of the hardware (is the sound quality degradation compared to "2/2. speakers"+CMSS On due to a much more complex algorithm of 3D positional sound mixing)?
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Is there a way to adjust the speaker angles in Calibration tab of THX Console to more than 60 degrees (I would definitely consider a hexediting hack as a viable solution, whatever works)?
I have this problem with X-FI Fatalty. Maybe someone knows what to do about it... I'm trying to get 3D positional sound to work through regular stereo headphones using CMSS 3D. The way I have it set up is as follows:the win xp Control Panel is set to 5., X-FI audio console is set to "headphones" or "2/2. speakers", and CMSS 3D is enabled at default settings. It does work - the 5. sounds from, say, a game is downmixed to stereo with 3D positional effects mixed in (sounds coming from behind are of a different tone, and actually sound like they come from behind). There are problems however. With "headphones" setting, the sound quality is atrocious - the sound is muddy and boomy. The 3D positional audio effects work great - I can pinpoint every direction from which the sound is coming fairly accurately. Note that without CMSS 3D, the "headphone" setting sounds great. With "2/2. speakers" setting, the sound quality is normal (sounds great on my HD555 headphones), but the 3D positional audio effects are not good - audio control panel in X-FI software allows only a maximum of 20 degrees setting for the angle between the speakers, whereas 80 degrees would be required to simulate 3D effects through headphones (X-FI software has two settings for that actually, (+/-)60 degrees maximum for each speaker, with the reference angle of zero degrees being directly in front of the listener - directly in between the two speakers). So my questions is this. Has anyone figured out how to either improve the quality of the sound with "headphones" setting, or increase the angles of the speakers to (+/-)90 degrees (80 total) with "2/2. speakers" setting?<!-- / message --><!-- sig --><SPAN>

The only possibility that I can think of is that 2/2. mode is NOT as simple as headphone mode with crosstalk cancelation. Perhaps the HRTF only kicks in for sound sources outside of the arc directly in front of the listener. If that were the case, you wouldn't percei've any distortion for sound sources in front of you.
Also, you are wrong regarding DirectSound3D. Keep in mind that Direct3D and DirectSound3D are not the same. The whole point of OpenAL and DirectSound3D is that they present an API to the programmer through which there is NO specification of the number of speakers. When using OpenAL or DirectSound3D, the only thing a programmer can do is specify the location of a mono sound source in 3D space relati've to the listener. The speaker settings for your DirectSound3D or OpenAL device will then determine how this sound is "rendered" by the soundcard. It is not under control of the game. For example, if you have 5. speakers and the 3D position is behind you, the SOUND CARD will make the decision to use the rear speakers. If you use headphones, the SOUND CARD will decide to apply an HRTF to create the illusion of a rear sound source. The point is that the game does not have control over how many speakers you will get sound from.
However, to further complicate the situation, there are SOME games (HL2 is an example) where DirectSound3D is used, BUT the sound output of the game itself IS a function of the Windows speaker settings. This is not how programmers are SUPPOSED to use DirectSound3D. I've written about this countless times. There is a good post on [H]ard|Forum about this. Do an "advanced" search with my username (thomase) looking for the terms "hl2" and "cmss".

  • ThinkPad T430s No Sound Through Headphones or Internal Speakers

My laptop is unable to play sound through both headphones/earphones and its internal speakers.
I downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the following site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t43... .
As a result, the Device Manager shows that the HD Audio Device is working properly.
Also, there is a green check mark over the internal speakers icon and headphones icon (when I plug the headphones into the jack), which was not present before I installed the Realtek Driver.
However, there is still an "X" over the audio icon in the taskbar.
When I click on the audio icon, the following window appears, stating that the audio device is disabled.
I have went through various forums and solutions, but none have been helpful so far.
Thank you so much for your time and help for this issue!

The Unknown Device seems to have disappeared from my Device Manager when I restarted my laptop. However, the HD Audio Device is still there.
My audio stopped working around December 23, 2014. Since then, I have tried to find solutions on various other sites. But, when I search for the System Restore, it only brings up a recent Windows Update.
Roll Back for the HD Audio Device is greyed out.
Also, after uninstalling the HD Audio Device and rebooting Windows, this dialog appears, mentioning that the Unidentified Device is something that was unplugged, which I think are the headphones. Also, there was a Failed installation for the Audio Device.
Thanks so much for helping me look into this problem.
