HP Pavilion dv7 . Primary (internal) Battery (601) charge is low .

HP Pavilion dv7 . On start-up , message says that Primary (internal) Battery (601) charge is low and needs replacing .
The PC operates normally on mains supply , so do I really need to replace the battery , being that I always use the PC powered by mains supply .
If I really must replace the battery , where can I purchase the replacement from , and how much will the replacement cost ?
                 Many thanks ,

Hi,
Just to clarify, the 601 error relates to your notebooks main battery ( not the rtc cell on the system board ).
If you're happy with running the machine on mains power full time, there's no issue with that and you can simply remove the battery.
If you do want to replace the battery at some time, you can order a new one through HP Parts Store or ( and often less expensive ), just google the full Model No. of your dv7 series notebook including the term battery.

  • HP Mini 311 - HP Battery Alert - Primary (Internal) Battery (601) - Error Message at Startup

I have a HP Mini 311-1037NR (Product Number is VBM262UA#ABA).   My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
When I start up my HP Mini 311 I receive the following message:
    HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.  For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
    Primary (Internal) Battery (601)
    ENTER - Continue Startup
    Here's are my questions:
First of all, what exactly is the problem here?  From what I have googled, it would appear the problem is NOT my external battery, but my internal battery.  What battery is needing replacement?  Does it have a name?
Second, is there a user guide out there that would assist me with the replacement process that someone can provide a link to or at least send me the page that helps me?  Is there a YouTube video (even better)?
Third, what exactly is the part number of the battery that needs replacement and exactly where do I purchase it (How much $$ does it cost)?  This question is important as I may be able to find out how to replace the battery, but without a way to purchase the replacement battery I'm still dead in the water.
Fourth, my HP Mini 311 just dies when I unplug it.  Will a remedy for the above issue remedy this issue as well?  I really do enjoy using my little HP Mini, but would prefer to have the option to use it without a power cord.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Hi Tim,
No problem and it's certainly wise to verify an answer.
I'd say you posted your question on the correct board.  It's usually best just to post once on the relevant board.  I do agree that the term 'internal' does cause unnecessary confusion.
Here's a link to your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Yes, I'm certain that the 601 error code refers to your notebooks main battery ( 602 is a failure code for machines that have a secondary storage cell ).  Interestingly, there is no error code generated for a failing rtc battery - or any in built diagnostic test for it, just the usual symptom of the system clock re-setting after each shutdown.
There's also a HP document regarding start-up battery alerts on the following link.
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01443470#N534

  • Primary Internal Battery needs to be replace?????????

Ok so it comes up saying Primary internal battery 601???? but my notbook is like 2 years old how can the battery be dead? can some plz help me out heres he info on my notbook its a hp pavilion dv7 plz any help would be great

Yes, mine has been saying the same thing for a little while also.  It's also a little over two years old.  I like HP, but their parts are wearing out quickly.  Best Buy tried to tell me my motherboard needed replaced last year for $900 - I left it alone until it started acting up again this year, and it's a $10 inverter that is causing the problem.  I have no idea about this primary internal battery yet - I'll be doing some more looking to resolve this for myself as well.

    Questions:
    - What battery is this message referring to (the "internal" bit leads me to believe it's the CMOS batttery but would like to be sure)?
    - If this is referring to the CMOS battery, and what is the part number?

    Hi,
The error message is a bit misleading as I believe it refers to your notebooks main battery.  One way to confirm this would be to download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.

  • Internal battery 601

    internal battery 601 needs replaced.

    Hi,
The error message 'Primary (internal) Battery (601)' actually refers to the notebooks main battery, not the RTC (cmos) cell.
A full list of battery error codes can be found in the document on the following link.

This error is a little confusing.  At first glance it appears to refer to the CMOS/RTC battery but does infact refer to the main battery for the notebook.  Even though the computer states that the battery is at 100% it would be a good idea to begin by verifying that it is in working condition.  I think this is a good first step because while it does show 100% charge, you state the notebook does not work unless it is on AC power.  This document discusses the issue further.
As stated in the document the HP Battery Check will need to be run in order to determine if the battery is faulty.
To perform the battery check perform the following steps and post the result.
Unplug the power cord and turn off the computer.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Press the Esc key immediately when seeing the HP or the Compaq logo screen.
    The Start Up menu appears.
Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics .
Select Battery Test from the list of diagnostic tests.
    Plug in the power cord.
Click Start Battery Test on the Battery Test page.
If your battery fails this test it will need to be replaced.  To get a replacement battery you will need to contact HP Technical Support.  If you are in the US/Canada you can call them at 1-800-474-6836.  If you are located outside of this region you will need to go to HP's support site and after selecting your country/region locate "Customer Support" in the bottom right corner to get the contact information for your region.
    I hope this helps!

  • Need part number to replace primary internal battery

Hi, I have been receiving Error Code 601 stating my primary internal battery storage capacity is very low.  I am trying to find the correct replacement part number.  I have been searching the site but am not confident I have the correct part number.  My laptop is critical to my job and I must order a replacement ASAP.  I appreciate the guidance!

This is a slightly misleading error message as it does in fact refer to your notebooks main battery, not the cmos battery. The reason it is call an internal battery is to distinguish it from the extended batteries that you can purchase with some models that attach to the outside of the laptop. Your battery should have a label with P/N.

    Hi,
You need a full product number (dv4 is a series of many products) to enter the following search for the RIGHT part #:
        http://partsurfer.hp.com/
You can order from there or use part # to order elsewhere. The following link shows you how to find the product number on your machine:

  • HP Pavilion dv7 plugged in but not charging.

I have aj HP Pavilion dv7 that's almost 2 and half years old. For some reason my battery won't charge even though I have the charger plugged in. Right now the battery is completely dead but before it died I tried everything to fix it. I tried updating the BIOS but this website said my laptop was up to date. I tried a hard reset, I tried turning it on with the charger in and battery out. Usually the light next to the charger port is illuminated but now it doesn't come on. I hovered over the battery icon and didn't even say it was plugged in. It just showed how much battery was left. Could the battery not be receiving charge or is it my charger that doesn't work?

    Huffer wrote:
Does the charger run the machine with the battery out? If so, the charger is good. 2.5 years is about normal battery life so the odds are strong you just need a replacement battery now.
Yes, the charger works with the battery out. My question is however: I just  bought a replacement battery, my problem is that my  battery is plugged in but not charging. I bought a non OEM Battery FY1. Is there help for this? Thanks

    Hi,
You have to replace the old battery. The part number is: 593554-001 for a 55Wh or 593553-001 for a 47Wh battery. Search the part number on google shopping or ebay for the best price.

  • Pavilion dv7-4047ea 'no battery is detected'

I have recently purchased and inserted a new battery for my Pavilion dv7-4047ea notebook.
However, when I boot up the  message "no battery is detected" appears in the hidden icons panel, together with a RED CROSS on the battery symbol. Hello mj-18
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I apologize that the new battery is not being detected in the notebook. I can definitely help you with this!
Normally, a new battery has to be calibrated before it can be used. Sometimes, an un-calibrated battery will not be detected until you calibrate it. I can provide an HP document with instructions on how to do this: Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7)
Following this document will allow you to successfully calibrate the battery. Additionally, it will test the battery for any issues it might have. Please try all of these steps and let me know what happens!
Thanks for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day!
