HP Pavilion dv7t-6100 CTO keys not working

The key 5 on the number pad and the normal keyboard do not work and also my f9 key (volume down) button also is not working. I've system restored back all the way back to the beginning of the month becuase i found it odd that both 5's were not working, as if a virus is affecting the key board.

Hello,
An idea for you would be to test the keyboard in a different enviroment ro see if it's hardware or not.
We can check the keys by booting into the recovery partition and opening a command prompt.
Power down notebook
Press power button then tap F11 until the screen says recovery at the bottom left or says Windows is Loading files. If it shows a different menu on your screen you may have press it too late or continues to load Windows you may have an issue w/ the partition.
Next when it loads into the menu choose an option so the program is slected. I select "System Recovery" then at the next menu press FN+SHIFT+D
At the commpand prompt window that pops up test the keys w/ issues.

  • HP Pavilion tx2500z - Default Function Keys not working

I have a HP Pavilion tx2500z (model: KD436AV) laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed. Since last few months, I am not able to use default function keys (F1, F2...F12) and other keys at the top row of the keyboard, including Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, End, Insert, Delete. However, all the Action Keys available on these keys are working without pressing Fn Key (e.g. Sleep, Brightness, num lock etc). I get same Action Key behaviour even after pressing Fn Key.
It looks like, somehow system is locked in action key mode and I am not able to come out of it. I tried to upgrade Bios (currently on latest F.0F version) and also tried to disable the Action Key mode in BIOS, but Action Key mode is not available in BIOS of this computer. Even to enter BIOS, I faced problem because F10 key was not working to enter BIOS setup. I had to connect external keyboard to enter BIOS.
I am disperately looking for help to come out of this situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • PAVILION P6-2002es F11 KEY NOT WORKING. HOW I CAN GET IT working AGAIN

Hi all. My pc isn`t working the f11 recovery key. The partition is right but I can`t restore de system because the f11 key do not work. The system don`t start. How I get use de recovery partition?

I see no mention of trying the Recovery disk set, so I assume those were not made.  First thing would be to try to enter the BIOS to see what information is still available.  If the PC can do that there might be a possible solution.  Report back with results.

  • Satellite Pro 6100: Fn keys not working

    Hello,
Ive got a Satellite Pro 6100 notebook. Im having trouble using the secondary function keys (im not sure what they're called!). When I press the function (Fn) button, the light below the F10 button come on as it should, but when i press any of the F buttons i.e brightness up/down, nothing works!
I had a quick look at some of the keyboard help and troubleshooter in control panel which suggested the driver may be incorrect so i tried looking for an updated driver, but windows said i have the latest driver.
Does anybody else have this problem with the SP6100? Can it be fixed? If so how?!
    Any help would be great.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC Hard Drive Replacement

    Hello,
I have HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and I had had hard drive issues from within warranty period. i.e. I purchase in 2010 and had a hard drive replaced in 2011 and again in 2012. Next time it failed in 2013 (almost 11 months apart on an average).
Last time when it failed, the warranty had expired so I thought of giving it a few try e.g. running thru bad sector fixing/writing-off softwares from seagate, Toshiba....this got me out of Smart Drive Error.
I have been using the HDD for sometime now but want to be prepared for the next round and I'm sure it'll be gone for good the next time.
Current HDD is 640GB, 7200 RPM Hardrive (replaced in 2012). HP Part# 621046-001.
When replacing, can I use ANY 640GB hard drive? Can I use a hard drive that is larger than 640 GB? Different RPM?
    Any suggestions about hard drive?
The recovery discs I had received with the replacement drive did not work correctly. I had to use the first set I had created right after I purchased the laptop.
    Thank you.

    Hi Pratik Patel
    According to product manual:
Your system supports SATA 9.5mm or 12.5mm , 2.5" HDDs
    supports upto 2 hard drives
    supports SSD too.
    Single hard drive configurations supported:
    250GB, 320GB, 500GB @7200RPM @9.5mm
    640GB @5400RPM @9.5mm
    750GB, 1TB @5400RPM @12.5mm
    160GB SSD
If you want dual hard drive configurations, please click following link (user manual):
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02666747.pdf
But, there is not hard fast rules that only 5400rpm can be used instead of 7200rpm, which was used to replace your earlier hdd.
    hope this has helped you.
    thanks

  • 2nd hard drive for HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Notebook - What do I need?

Hi, I have the HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook (Product # WV703AV). It has room for two harddrives but only came with one. What would I need in order to install the second hard drive? Would I need just a connecting cable or do I also need caddy or kit?
Also, could I get a solid state? Would my notebook support that or does it only use regular ones?
    Currently, I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I've got a 500GB hd (which came partitioned with hp tools/recovery).
Any help with what I would need for a traditional hdd or ssd would be greatly appreciated. I tried to look through other people's posts first,  but couldn't find anything specific to my model. Thanks for your time!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
The only place I know of where you can get a 2nd hard drive kit is from this vendor.
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345
Your notebook should be able to work with a SSD but I cannot guarantee it.
I really don't see any point in adding a SSD unless you make it the primary hard drive, and in order to do that, you would need to get a SSD the same size as the original 500 GB hard drive to use the recovery disks to reinstall the operating system.
Most folks get smaller SSD's and they use the W7 product key to activate a plain installation of W7.
If you can read all 25 characters of your windows 7 product key you can make your own installation media and use that to install Windows on a smaller than 500 GB SSD.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • My Recovery Drive is Full, How do I clean it up? (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO)

Hi, I'm not too comfortable with messing around with the inner workings of my computer, but the Recovery Hard Disk Drive has been slowly filling up for a while now. It is just about full and I was wondering if there was any way for me to clean it up/restore it without messing up my programs and files? I did it once before, but I can't remember how and I'm too scared to mess with it without some kind of instruction.
I have a USB hard drive for making back ups that I use now as a precaution if something goes wrong with cleaning the Recovery Disk.
My computer is a HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC running on  Windows 7.
If someone could give me some advice, that would be wonderful.

    Hi,
See the HP document on the following link regarding this issue - although the document refers o Vista, it also applies to Windows 7.

  • HP Pavilion DV7T‐4100 CTO USB 3

    I have a
    HP Pavilion
    DV7T‐4100 CTO
and it appears that is does not have any usb3 ports.
    I just bought a usb3/sata hd caddy.
Now my questions is will the usb 2 ports put out enought "juice" to run the usb 3 caddy which has only one usb connections and no external power supply?
I know that my HP Pavilion DV7T‐4100 CTO has a combo usb2/firewire port and I'm wondering if I pug my usb3 caddy into it will it power up the HD?
I belive that usb3 is downwardly compatable with usb2.  So if the connection has enought "juice" will it run the HD?
    Thanks
    rafalovich

    Hi rafalovich,
You are correct, that USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. There are plenty of USB 2.0 SATA Docks, so it should provide enough power, but the transfer rates would be at 2.0 USB speeds.
    Hope this helps.

  • Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC hard disk failure imminent.

Lately this laptop has been running slow and hot. Just yesterday,  I recieved an error message on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO), saying "SMART Hard Disk Error" followed by a message telling me that the SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. It told me to backup my files and then press F2 and run a hard disk test. The Quick Test Passed. The complete test gave this error.:"Hard Disk reporting failure 301 Disk Name: Toshiba MK7559GSXP Volume C:/D:/F:/)". I am sure I will have to replace the hard disk. Right now it is a Toshiba 750GB SATA hard disk drive, 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch small form factor (SFF). Can this hard drive be replaced with a Hybrid SSHD like the following:
    Seagate Hybrid Drives ST1000LM014 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 2.5" Laptop SSHD
    or
TOSHIBA Hybrid Drives MQ01ABD100H 1TB+8GB(NAND Flash) 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Laptop SSHD
If not, what would be the best replacement hard drive that you reccommend?

    Hi,
You can put the second HDD on the second bay, existing BIOS can handle this BUT you need more hardware namely a caddy set (caddy & cables). You can buy from:

We need the P/N to verify what board will fit in that laptop and also you can use that P/N from service manual to locate the part on eBay to find a match or call HP support to see what the board would cost.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade Processor

    Hello,
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.  Because of a new job I need to update my processor from the current 2.30 GHz (see exact specs below, please) to at least 3.0 GHz.
Is there a 3.0GHz processor out there that is compatible with this particular computer? I've called technical support and was told they don't know. I really don't know who else to ask.
This computer was just purchased a few months ago (before I got the new job). I would really like to avoid purchasing a new computer, if at all possible, if I can upgrade the processor in this one.
Here are the specs of the current processor:
    Intel Core i7 3610QM
    Code Name    Ivy Bridge
    Package    Socket 988B rPGA
    Technology    22nm
    Specification    Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.

Well, there appears to be just one (that I've found) 3.0 GHz processor that Intel makes for my chipset  (HM77 Express Chipset) and it's the i7-3940XM Extreme edition (http://ark.intel.com/products/71096/)
At a retail price of $1,000+ it looks like I'm going shopping for a new computer.
Not sure if anyone from HP read the peer forums, however, I will not be purchasing another HP product.
This machine has had issues outside of me needing to upgrade the processor for my own personal reasons. Your support is grossly lacking in all areas Your techscannot even pull up the model number with the serial number.
Customers should not have to go out on the Internet to research questions like this.
