HP Pavilion DV8000 Dead?

Help! My laptop appears to be dead. When I turn it on the lights for hard drive and cd drive blink in unison and cd drive sounds(grinds) during blink. Most importantly the screen remains black and the power button does not turn it off.

It is much more likely to be the motherboard than the cpu and if you cannot do the labor yourself I think the expense for either is not going to be justified.  As far as the data on the hard drive; remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot8e0LKXZMo Then get a usb to SATA adapter:  http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437001103&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+to+SATA Now just plug the old drive into the usb port on your new laptop and the old drive will become available for copying and pasting files to the new laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • HP Pavilion DV8000 Notebook

HP Pavilion DV8000 Notebook, Windows XP, SP2:  I noticed lately on my laptop that I can be working on it and it will automatically just shut off.  My battery does not keep power very well so I have to keep plugged in all the time. I have done diagnostics on it no hardware problems show up at all.  So I am not sure what is going on.  Does anyone have any ideas of what can be wrong.  Of course this is no longer under warranty.   Any help is greatly appreciated

    >> I have to keep plugged in all the time
    Hi,
It looks like your battery does not work well, it should tell you the machine is low on battery before shutting off. I don't know how old is your laptop but you may want to check its battery and replace if required.

  • Pavilion dv8000 audio problem

    Hi everybody,
I did a clean install of windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv8000 just last night, most everything is working fine except one thing, my audio.
I successfuly installed the drivers but in the device manager I get a message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" wherther or not this is a problem with windows 7, I'm not sure, however the problem started when I installed it any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated

My problem with Win7 drivers on a dv8000 unit with AC97 audio is consistent with what has been aired here (audio, mass storage, modem). The audio was most egregious. I followed a number of solutions over (3) days which eventually led me me to sp35558. But it did not install without tweaking. I followed this advice, and then tweaked it. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Windows-7-Beta-and-test/NEED-HELP-Windows-7-sound-drivers-for-dv8310us/...
After that failed, I did this routine:
    1) right-click the question marked (unknown audio) device and choose update driver software.
    2) Click "Browse my computer for driver software."
    3) Choose "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer"
    4) Page down to and choose "Sound Video and Game controllers"
    5) Choose (Click) the "Have Disk" button on that dialogue box.
    6) browse to the folder with the CP6308Ba.inf file.
    7) Choose the inf from the browser, "open" it and press OK.
It will warn you that the driver is not signed in the process. Just OK it.
It installed the drivers after that as "Conexant AC Link Audio."
    I love my audio again.

  • Can my Pavilion dv8000 run 2g of ram and dual 250gb hard drives?

I have a older HP Pavilion dv8000 that has been wiped and reloaded at least 4 times because my son thinks all web sites are safe, and I want to know if it will handle 2 gig of ram and dual 250gb hard drives with the processor that it runs on, it currently has 1 gig ram and a 160gb hard drive, or do I throw it in the trash and buy a new one?? The 17 in screen is perfect but my son loaded Windows 7 on it and now it will barely run at all, it had XP but his "computer wiz buddy" said this will make it run just great. WRONG, so I need to start over. Any suggestions other than when or if I get it fixed to keep my son away from it.

The dv8000 series covers a lot of territory...most are single core centrinos but some are core duos...some are single core AMD processors. It was not a real poular model and I do not see a  lot of them, but always thought they are pretty well made and robust. To me a dual core processor is the minimum requirement for a useable computer these days. If it is in fact a single core I would abandon it and buy a new one if you can afford it. But even the single core would be OK for light use if there is no other option. I recommend XP be installed on it, but some of them have a video system that can handle Windows 7 OK. Yes it can be upgraded to 2 gigs of RAM and you can install 2 x 250 gig hard drives. It uses DDR2 memory and if I recall correctly some are PATA hard drives and some are SATA hard drives so you have to see what you have before you order a replacement. They evolved quite a bit over their lifespan. If you can give us the full model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop we can provide more knowledgeable help.

  • Pavilion dv8000 recovery questions

    Hi,
I have the Pavilion dv8000 laptop which came loaded with Windows XP. I have since upgraded to Windows 7, and now feel I need to run a system recovery but I am not sure how to proceed. I researched on HP about the recovery process but was not sure if my upgrade to 7 makes a difference or do I follow the diirections for the XP? I also can't recall if I bought my laptop in 05 or 06, so I'm not sure if I need a recovery disc or not. There is a D Drive listed as a recovery drive but I have no idea how to access it.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance!

Normally you can boot into Recovery by tapping away at the F11 key immediately after powering on the laptop. However, many times the F11 function is broken when you install another OS. Try it first to see if it works.
If not, this procedure has worked for many owners>>
1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without pressing F11).

  • Help. Can I go to a 1TB 2nd hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv8000 (also listed as a dv8333cl ?)

    hello-
I have an HP dv8000 notebook computer running windows xp-sp2.  I upgraded my 2nd hard drive (not the windows xp/boot drive - just document/family photo & video storage)  to a Hitachi 320 GB drive 4 years ago.  it works great but I"m almost out of space.
    item/specs -  320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145227
I would like to change it out for a newer Hitachi 1TB drive - as I am now approaching a full drive for photos, videos, docs.
    such as this one -  1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145584
It is listed as having a speed of 6.0 gb/s instead of 3.0 gb/s and It says it's 'Advanced Format'.    Any reason my windows xp-sp2 laptop won't be able to use this drive?
In searching around the web it seems that my version of windows xp with sp2 as well as my bios may be the controlling factors.  In entering my product number on the HP Software and Drivers page it indicates my bios is up to date (only available update is for an AMD processor).  I may update to SP3 - though further research indicates XP with SP2 has no trouble 'seeing' a 1TB drive.
This compatibility doc from Hitachi that mentions these drives are compatible with some HP DV computers - but not mine specifically (dv8000 or dv8333cl) - and it also lists my motherboard/chipset as being compatible - Intel 945PM Express (I'm not sure about the express part but I'm pretty sure I have the Intel 945PM).
    http://www.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/5E27D1BA34214ECB8825797B00282A2F/$file/TS5K1000_Compat...
If not the Hitachi - due to the Advanced Format issue - how about a seagate or western digital 1TB drive such as:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178006
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136927
I'm running windows xp with SP2 - it's very stable, my dv8000/8333cl is a centrino dual core intel 1.83ghz, i've upgraded to 2GB of Ram installed, Also I just recovered from a 'black screen' by 'reflowing' (tearing down computer and heating up the Invidia GPU to 350 degrees for a bit to 'reflow' the solder connections to my motherboard)  my nvidia Geforce GO 7600 GPU chip and cleaned/re-engineered the heat sink with custom copper heat shims  - so my HP laptop is running great and I want to keep it going for a long time.
What are the downsides to popping in a 1TB secondary drive to see if it will be 'seen' and if I can partition and format it for use as my storage drive?  Any thoughts?  Thanks much!

Seems like my 32 bit windows xp will recognize and use up to 3-3.5GB of the 4GB of RAM.  And since memory is pretty cheap now I'm going to try this also.
Anyone have any success going beyond the stated 2GB max for memory?
My Intel 945 PM motherboard/chipset lists max memory as 4GB - so it will only be limited by the 32 bit windows xp?
    Thanks for any thoughts.

    Hi:
    Be connected to the internet.
Try clicking on the audio controller in the device manager, and click on update driver.
Select the automatic search method, and see if the driver is installed by windows update.
If not, then try the Vista driver for your audio device. You many have to try manually installing it from the device manager and choose the browse my computer for software and browse to C:\SWSetup\sp34567.  Make sure the include subfolders box is checked, and see if the vista driver installs that way.

  • Pavilion DV6846TX dead

yesterday night I done my works on it, everything was working fine then I turn it off and went to sleep. when today morning I try to turn it on it doesn't power on anymore. Just the Charger indicator is glowing. But none of other lights are turning on.
I tried removing battery and charger then pressing power key for 30 seconds then plug in charger and try to turn it on but nothing happen. It's like my laptop became dead.
    Anybody any idea/ suggestion please

    Let me guess.
It got hot a couple of times, maybe even shut down. You did everything you could to diagnose and suspected the battery was the culprit and checked the recall.
But you were probably told yours was not affected. Now your battery, transformer and motherboard are all toast, and you're barely out of warranty.
All for a $20 battery that could have started a fire that HP would not replace.
    Sound close?
    Good luck to you-

  • Hp pavilion g6 dead

hi there, my laptop does not start. when i hit the power button, the power button lights up solid, the wireless button lights up solid [amber], and the caps lock button blinks slowly.what ive been reading indicates that its a blown cpu.  two questions:  1-is it worth fixing?2-how do i access the files on the hard drive and transfer them to my new hp laptop? any guidance is greatly appreciated.

  • Pavilion DV7 dead.

My Pivilion dv7 do not start and only the lights flicker. No sound from fans and no screen.

In order to help you further, could you please provide us with more information about your computer? Please post the specific model number or the PN (Part Number) from the white tag on your computer. (can be located on the bottom of your PC/beneath the battery)
This will help us locate drivers and identify correct parts for your specific model.
Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • Pavilion dv8000 - Sound jittery/slow after resuming Windows

I'm using Windows XP Home. After resuming Windows, sound playback is sometimes slow/jittery. It's almost as if the sound is playing at about half-time. It comes and goes (seemingly) sporadically, so it's pretty frustrating. I've been having this for years, but never found a fix.
At first I thought it might be a Firefox and/or Flash thing, since I mostly notice this in playing of Youtube videos or songs on Pandora.com, but I found that it also happens in Winamp and other applications with sound.
I'm almost 100% that this doesn't happen after a fresh startup, just after a resume. In fact, if I'm trying to watch something longer on Youtube, I'll often just reboot so the sound (and accompanying slow playback) doesn't drive me crazy.
Besides rebooting every time I want to listen to/watch something, any thoughts on things to try?

    Hi:
    Try these two...

The info for yours should be found under Models, Level 3.

  • Lost Conexant audio in DV8000 notebook

Recently had a virus (now cleaned) that seems to have wiped out my sound. Computer says no audio device is installed; everything in audio device box is grayed out. Conexant AC-Link Audio appears in software list, but I can't uninstall it or install the updated driver. I run XP SP3 w/ AMD Turion64 2.2 ghz/1MB. Suggestions welcome.

Okay, friends, this is going to sound just plain weird but for what it's worth ...
I have had the same problem and not been able to fix it for months!  There are several fora entries (here and elswhere) about manifestations of this problem in Win XP (SP3) and other environments.  I have tried virtually EVERY solution short of reformatting my hard drive ... not gonna do that.  Nothing has worked for me.  My precipitating event was ... well ... there wasn't one.  I came to the computer one day and there was simply no sound device.  It was as if aliens had snuck in during my sleep, opened the case, and run off with my sound hardware!  I couldn't load Conexant drivers ... cause there was no sound device.  Where it went is anyone's guess.  I tried to make the computer rediscover the hardware but it was having none of it.  Then ... magic!
I accidentally left the computer (a Pavilion dv8000 laptop) unplugged all night and, of, course the battery ran down to nothing.  When I discovered the problem I plugged the thing back in and booted the system up.  In the process of coming up it 'discovered' my 'new' sound hardware!  Yes, those thieving aliens brought it back!.  It worked fine for two days and then the sound hardware disapearred again!  Again, no clear or apparent precipitating event.  This time, I purposfully ran down the battery again and (after plugging it in and starting it up again the next day) once again the system 'discovered' and loaded drivers to the sound hardware, and everything was wonderful  (**bleep**, those system beeps are sweet!)
The sound hardware has not disappeared again.
When all else fails, pull the **bleep** thing's plug!  It worked for me!!  Good luck!!!
