HP Pavilion dv9700 screen is blank - uses NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

My screen ghosted for a minute then went blank.
The screen is totally blank, but I am able to connect another external display device, and that works fine.
Is this fixable?

Maybe the LCD backlight went out, use a flashlight up close, can you can see anything on the screen

Mercury CUDA not enabling when using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 on Apple Mac Pro after Mavericks install

Been using the same setup since CS5 with the Mercury CUDA running perfectly. After recent upgrade of OS X to 10.9 Mercury CUDA is no longer available and only lets me run with the OpenGL or software options. Im using a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 for apple computers. Here are the results for the GPUSniffer program in the latest Premiere Pro 7.1.0 files. The LAST line make me chucle because it the first on the list of supported card in the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" file. Anybody else seen this?

Sorry for the inconvenience. NVIDIA is currently working on drivers that support CUDA on Mavericks 10.9 with some of the older NVIDIA cards such as the GTX 285 and the Quadro 4800.
For others interested, the Quadro 4000, K5000 and GTX 680 ect... work with CUDA in 10.9.

Hi I saw the list of graphics cards that are compatible with after effects... and am wondering if the nvidia geforce 650 2 gb would work?
I realized all the graphics cards have cuda cores, the gtx 650 2 gb isnt on the list but it has 384 cuda cores?

HP Pavilion dv 6730ew - Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS - fan speed

After upgrade few packages:
kernel26 2.6.29.4-1
kernel26-firmware 2.6.29-1
nvidia 180.51-1
nvidia-utils 180.51-1
I observed strange work of fans. After start system, fans are working on full speed. This state persist for few minutes in spite of temperature of CPU and GPU is normal.
After that fans work normal (I think ) - they accelerate when load is big and slow down after.
UPDATE: I don't think that fans work normal. They work too fast and too ofteen without seriously reason.
With older version of this packages (kernel26-2.6.29.4-1 kernel26-firmware-2.6.29-1 nvidia-180.51-1 nvidia-utils-180.51-1) everything is normal, that's mean - fans doesn't start after boot, only during bigger load.
Have anyone similar observation?

I have new observations. Probably that's not problem with acpi/kernel etc but with nvidia drivers. Always after wake up or start X, my graphic card switch on to 2 performance level and temperature of GPU growing to about 60 degrees (normal is about 50).
Why nvidia needs to switch to 2 level after wake up or start X?

Now, I'm sure that nvidia driver is guilty.
With Nvidia 180.18.14, GPU is still working on the fastest performance level so temperature grows and fan starts. Whatever I set in xorg.conf, performance level is always 2.
With nvidia 180.51 everything is normal. GPU switch level if it need or hold level that I set in xorg.conf
I have a GeForce 8400M GS - Have somebody this same card?

my problem is almost a week now after i reformat my laptop due to viruses that cause my laptop to get more slower even worst, then everything was fine all drivers are installed correctly but the display driver seems having problem, any possible solution for this matter? can i get the exact driver for my display?

Well now you know what happens with newer drivers for your laptop - it really isn't compatible. This is the exact same issue I had with the my Pavilion notebook when I installed latest ones from my download site. So, I had to be satisfied with the one that came with my laptop & no newer versions that were released by HP for my model doesn't really suits my model.
For the black-out you're having probably with the updated driver, enter SAFE MODE and do the restore OR use the last known good configuration in the Advanced Boot Options menu. To do this, just follow the Using Safe Mode at startup or Using the last known good configuration in the Advanced Boot Options menu to return the computer to a previous restore point section detailed in this document , to restore to previous known good time or to a last known good configuration respectively.
Could you provide me with the exact model name / model number of you laptop (like dv6500xx) . I'll look for the drivers again. If any previous versions are there.

Cover flow slow to scroll in Vista with Nvidia GeForce 8400M

I recently purchased a new laptop with vista service pack 1. One issue is the cover flow motion is really slow to scroll compared to my last computer using xp. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?

I have had the same problem with my new Dell XPS notebook since I bought it in mid Feb. I have googled the problem and a lot of users are also having this problem. Cover flow mode is painfully slow and unuseable. If you find a fix, please post.

HP Pavilion 15-p050sq , NVIDIA GeForce 830M problem

I just bought a new HP Pavilion 15-p050sq with Windows8.1Pro and after one day I realized the NVIDIA GeForce 830M graphics procesor is not used at all. I tried to set the NVIDIA GeForce 830M as preferred graphics processor but after I hit the "APPLY" button the setting just goes back to "Auto-select". I updated the last driver version from Nvidia (344.65) and also for the integrated bord Intel HD Graphics but the situation is the same.
Please give me a solution.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-p050sq Notebook and your NVIDIA GeForce 830m issues. Here is a document that might help you. It is a different system but the Graphics are the same. If you notice the section on managing your updates as there is a section there to uncheck the Auto
Windows will always use the Intel GPU . The NVIDIA card is only utilized when configured specifically to run an application or when the notebook requires extra graphics processing power. Some settings may not be available for a software program. If a setting is not available, the NVIDIA Optimus technology does not support the software program for that setting.

I am testing the official Windows 7 release, but the Nvidia driver is not compatible.
Where can I get a hold of a windows-7 compatible driver?
Nvidia site said I must contact HP, but can't find a win7 version anywhere on the HP site
is it hidden somewhere or about to be released?

In the world of video cards, the nVidia geForce 8400 is ancient, slow, and outdated. On a scale where the fastest modern cards benchmark in the vicinity of 3000, the geForce 8400 measured out at 160 (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/).
Do yourself a favor and buy a modern video card mesauring at least 1500 on that scale (see the High End Video Card page). They're not that expensive! Your entire system will pick up speed, and Photoshop can really scream.

Blank display when exiting X, using NVidia blob

I'm using the proprietary NVidia drivers for my Macbook's 9400M graphics card, and while X can start, it seems to have trouble quitting. I can startx normally, but if I kill X or quit my window manager, the screen will go entirely blank. The system is not actually frozen, because if I issue a "reboot" command while in X, the screen will blank for just a moment (as opposed to showing the console, which it usually does) before rebooting normally. I've also tried to startx from the console, quit the WM, and blindly type "sudo reboot" and my password, after which the computer still reboots. If I blindly type "startx", the display will show whatever's in X as it would normally, but once again blanks when I return to the console. Xorg.0.log says that the server terminated normally.
It seems to me that the console is still present and working, but not doing anything. What can I do to restore its normal behavior while keeping the NVidia binary blob?
EDIT: I might not have been clear on what happens when I first start the computer. The console appears normally before X starts, but it only breaks after X has been started at least once.

Try downgrading if possible. There are some kernel line switches that may help (e.g. acpi=off) but it's all Greek me.

Connect the device to iTunes and restore from the most current backup.
If the issue continues, restore as new.

There's been a problem with this all day. Seems to be a server problem - wait a day and try again, or use itunes on the computer to update, that works.
