Hp pavilion dv9815nr notebook PC does not recognize dvd drive

I had the PC worked on for this problem and it was working ok. I don't use it very often so didn't know it had stopped working until I tried to use it again about 3 months later.

This has been the same problem with my HP Pavilion DV5. It could be a cause that I haven't been able to use it until it wear out, but still not sure if this is possible. Any suggestion?

  • Windows 8 does not recognize DVD drive on Satellite P775-112 - code 19

I have a Satellite P775-112 that was previously running Windows 7.
This weekend I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro RTM.
Following the upgrade, the DVD drive is no longer recognized.
In Device Manager the drive "MAT****A BD-MLT UJ240EF" has a warning symbol, and the Device Status in Properties is "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".
I've tried everything I've found on the web without success:
    - Reinstall driver (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/cc772156)
    - Look for and remove UpperFilters / LowerFilters values in the registry (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) : in my case they weren't present
I also tried connecting a USB DVD drive to my laptop - it failed with the same Device Status in Device Manager. Which suggests the problem isn't specific to my DVD hardware.
    Any suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

    1. At the START screen type Control Panel
    2. Select Programs --> Uninstall a program
    3. Find the two programs listed above and uninstall these applications
    4. After the application programs are uninstalled restart your computer using the Power-->Restart option in Windows 8
    5. When the computer power back on the CD/DVD drive should be available
If the CD/DVD drive still does not appear follow the instructions below to uninstall a device driver
    *To uninstall a device driver:*
    1. At the START screen type Device Manager
    2. Select Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > right click on the device displayed > select Uninstall.
    3. After the driver uninstalls, power down you computer using the restart method. The driver will install automatically when the computer restarts.
    4. The CD/DVD drive should now be shown.

I recently moved and had to disconnect my WD My Pro Edition II 2TB external drive I had been using for backup.
Its been several months (many upgrades to the iMac software during this time), and now when I try to reconnect the external dire (Use a firewire cable) it does not recognize the drive is there.  I also tried "reloading" software from the Western Digital site, but after following all the instructions, it looks like my iMac doesn't support this software (I can't even locate it after I follow all the instructions.
Thnaks,  for anyones ideas on how I can get this working again.....

First of all, you do not really want to use their software; if you want a bootable clone, use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. If you simply want to drag and drop some files, you don't need software to do that. The important thing on any external drive is that you format/partition it correctly (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and using GUID partition scheme).
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about WD drives or their software, so I don't have any idea what kind of backup you did. Having said that, it should still recognize the external even if it's outdated. Have you tried mounting it manually in Disk Utility? If you can get it to mount, you could (worst case scenario) just drag your stuff off onto your internal and then reformat the external.

  • IQ506 does not recognize DVD+RW Drive

I have been messing around with this problem for a couple months now and I'm about ready to give up.  For some strange reason my IQ506 decides when I have a DVD drive and when I do not.  I'd say about 90% of the time the computer does not recognize the drive.  This is after many reboots as well as many restores to the original settings.  I have formatted my computer twice now and even when it replaces everything with the OEM software about 50% of the time it still can not recognize the drive.  The other 50% lets it work for a day and then disappears.  This usually happens after the computer locks up for about 3 minutes and then the drive is gone.  I've replaced the drive once already due to HP support, but it's not the issue.  I'm about to give up on this as there seems to be no way to fix this problem.  HP support has claimed that it's software related and not hardware since both drives I have installed do the same thing, but what am I supposed to do if the software that comes pre-packaged with it won't even recognize it after a full clean install of the OEM software.
    Someone please help!

    Mindset83,
I have had the same problems with my touchsmart IQ506 however, I just found the solution & it worked. Please see the link below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00817052&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3752240
I first followed the directions under:
step 1: Does Windows detect the CD or DVD drive however, the DVD-CD ROM drive still was not recognized and of course, the drive would not work. I suggest you try this first anyway. This may resolve your problem.
    BUT
Step 3: Clearing upper and lower registry filters (YAHOO!!) -worked like a charm!!
Carefully follow as directed in step 3. Restart your computer. My DVD-CD ROM drive now works.
There are additional steps # 2, #4 that I did not use.
I  would bookmark this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00817052&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3752240
    for future use.
I Hope this resolved your drive issue as well.

  • DVD-ROM SD-M1612 does not recognize DVD's

I tried to do a search but this search system is not very intuitive. Anyway I did find the topic "DVD-ROM SD-M1612 Does not recognize DVD's"
    I'm having the same problem.
I know the drive works, I've been using it for 5 years or so now, however long it's been out. I replaced my hard drive, reinstalled my OS and now it doesn't recognize DVD's. !!????
I've been searching all day trying to find a solution. Fireware v1004. It reads CD's just fine, but not DVD's very strange.
It also delays my boot process if a DVD is in the drive by a very long time.
Any thoughts as to what I need to update?
My motherboard is an ASUS P4TE

    Hi
Like Ivan said, its possible that the drive is defect. Such issues could appear if the lens cannot calibrate properly.
However, I have investigated a little bit in the net and fond a very interesting Toshiba site about this drive with the firmware update and device drivers.
    http://www.toshiba-europe.com/STORAGE/pft.asp?page=PFT&nav=ISH_ARC&model=SDM1612&spr_mod eltype=DVDROMHH&spr_model=SDM1612
The other possibility could be a wrong media. According to the informationa on this site, the drive cannot read the DVD + medias.
Be sure that you use the compatible DVDs.
But as mentioned above its possible that the drive has a malfunction.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9120y bios does not recognize any cd/dvd/bluray or hard disk drives

I erased my hard disk to install Windows 7.  Now my computer intermittently does not recognize that there are any drives attached to the sata ports.  I go into BIOS pressing F10 and it does not list any drives at all.  I have a DVD burner and a bluray and a western digital 1TB hard drive connected.  Sometimes they show that they are connected other times it doesn't.  It's strange.
When it does recognize there are drives connected, I boot up from the Windows 7 DVD.  Then I try to create a partition on the hard drive.  The installation recognizes a 930GB hard drive with no partitions.  Every time I try to create a partition, it says I need a driver for the hard drive.  I have a driver that I downloaded off of HP's website yesterday, the driver for nvidia sata.  I put it on my usb drive.  It recognizes it but says it is the wrong driver.  I don't know what else to do.  I have built dozens of computer and repaired hundreds, but I have never run across a problem like this and I hope you can help me.

Thanks for your help, but that's exactly the driver I used.  It didn't work.
My problem is not just with the hard drive.  All three drives (two optical, one hard disk) should show up in bios, whether or not there is a disk in the optical drive or a partition on the hard drive.  It intermittently stops detecting the drives.  One time I boot and go into BIOS they are there, and I can run installation of Windows (partially).  But if a turn off the computer and turn it back on, they've disappeared.  Sometimes they will be detected, sometimes they won't.
I'm thinking the driver problem with the Windows 7 Professional x64 installation is somehow connected to the drives randomly not showing up.  All drives stop showing up at the same time, not just the hard drive.  So it's not a driver issue.  It has to be connected to the BIOS and motherboard.
This computer is only 4 months out of warranty.
Any more help would be appreciated.

  • Snow Leopard Installer does not recognize Hard drive in disk utility.

I first at the suggestion of apple technicians because of other problems erased and partitioned hard drive. Now when I go to reinstall Snow Leopard it does not recognize the Macintosh Hard Drive, not even in disk utility. Any help will be greatly appreciate.

To make sure we understand everything correctly, you are saying that when you start up from the Snow Leopard DVD & run its copy of Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, it shows only the DVD installer disc itself in the list on the left of Disk Utility's window? There is nothing else there?
Also, what are you booted from when you try to make an image of the installer DVD, the DVD itself or something else? Are you using Disk Utility or something else to make the image?
This seems very weird for sure. If you were running from some hard disk copy of the OS, I would suspect that its copy of Disk Utility or some OS support file was corrupted, but if you are doing this from the DVD that is extremely unlikely unless the DVD itself is physically damaged.
Apart from that, pretty much the only thing left is a damaged hard drive or other hardware failure in your Mac.

  • Mac Pro Hexacore does not recognize new drive

I have just received my new 2 TB Seagate constellation drive and the mac pro hexacore running OS X 10.6.7 does not recognize it.  From touching the drive it is warm and feels like it is running but nothing shows up on the desktop and Disc utility does not see it at all.  Since this is the highest quality drive with a 139 year MTBF it seems infinitely more likely that something is not right in the mac than in the drive.  In the past adding new drives has been simple enough but this one is not even showing up.  Ideas?

Actually I had ordered 2 of these drives and at first I thought it was an Apple problem but I put the second drive in and it worked perfectly, so the first drive must have been DOA.  Thanks for the reply.  I just wanted to make sure I had not forgotten to do something to make the drie be recognized.
    Thanks

  • Windows server 2012 R2 does not recognize DVD burner as read/write device

I've seen problem fixes for this on Windows 7 but nothing on 2012 R2.
I changed the drive letter on the server (2012 R2 with all current updates) and now it does not recognize the working DVD burner as a read/write device.
The device does work correctly with other Operating Systems on the same hardware.  The box is a Lenovo D30.
Any idea as to how to go about this fix.  All Microsoft troubleshooter downloads run and say the problem was corrected but no luck in burning anything.

  • Mac mini does not recognize external drive

I have an 80GB external drive full of music files. I disconnected my computer to move to a new house and, with everything re-connected, the mini does not recognize the external drive. I wonder whether it is because the internal drive is nearly full. I have tried restarting the computer, disconnecting and re-connecting the USB cable to the external drive, serching for it with the disk utility, un-pluggin the external drive power cable and re-connecting it, but I'm out of ideas. What might have happened?

  • Computer does not recognize exteranl drive

I have been using a Maxtor OneTouch II FireWire 800 external drive as backup for several years and it has worked fine until recently. Recently when I turn on the drive the computer does not recognize that the drive is connected on either the FireWire or USB port. I disconnected the drive and shut down the computer several times with no success. When I connect the drive to my Windows Dell laptop the laptop recognizes that the external drive is connected. Any ideas about what could be the issue with my iMac?

All USB 1.1 devices will no doubt work on a USB 2.0 port (as long as the running system has the proper driver for it). However, not all USB 2.0 devices will work on a USB 1.1 port.
Any suggestions about how to isolate the issue?
The device itself (the hard drive) seems to work. To rule out FireWire port on device, you would need to connect it to another computer over FireWire to see if it works. To rule out FireWire port on iMac, you would need to connect some other FireWire device that is known to be working. For the cable, you would need to get another one that is known to be working and try it with the FireWire drive.
Also is there anything I can try from a software perspective?
You can start up from your Mac OS X installation disc for Panther (10.3), by inserting the disc and holding down the C key during a restart. When you get to the first Installer screen, go up to the Menu Bar under the Installer menu and select the command to run Disk Utility. See if the hard drive shows up in the Disk Utility sidebar, when you are started up from a different system.

  • Ibook does not recognize external drive.

    Hi,
I have a G3 ibook running 10.2x and it won't recognize my maxor external drive which was formatted fat32. All other macs I'd tried can read it. I have installed the software (for backing up) and when its running it can detect the drive, but the finder will not show it. Is there a driver or an update I can use?
    Thanks
    IBOOK G3   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   600 mrtz

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
FAT32 formatting is not ideal for backing up. Unfortunately you will only be able to use it for data file backing up. Many applications rely on resource files and keeping the same filenaming conventions and permissions to run smoothly in Mac OS X. FAT32 does not observe Mac OS X's conventions for this. If that does not matter to you, and there is no data on the drive you want to preserve currently, use Apple's Disk Utility to reformat it. If there is data you want to preserve on it, find out if it is readable by a PC and offload that data to another drive, and then reformat it with that Mac. It may be the drive requires a specific firmware update to work in 10.2, and that you may only be able to get from the manufacturer. Though usually Disk Utility in any version of Mac OS X will give it its blessing when you erase the drive.
Edit, if you want it to be readable by a PC, and be a solid format for backing up both applications and data files, PCs can read HFS+ with MediaFour's MacDrive:

  • HT201250 Time Machine does not recognize external drive at start up

I have an external WD 2TB drive which I use as my Time Machine back up drive.  When I restart the iMac desktop the Time Machine drive does not start automatically and I must open Time Machine each time and remember to identify the external drive that contains my Time Machine back up data.  Is there some way to make this drive the default Time Machine back up device when the system starts?  It is annoying to have to remember to do this each time my machine restarts.  I have a drive icon that displays as "My Book" on restart where the Time Machine icon is located but this icon is yellow and my Time Machine drive icon is blueish green.  Once I set the correct drive it will go into the mode to refresh the backup (usually in 118 seconds) and then once the backup is updated then the icon become blueish green and all works normally.  Please help!  Thx Tom

I called Apple tech support and went through the recommended actions with doing the disk check with the Utilities and all checked out okay.  They had to ask the senior support advisor and was told that it does not automatically start the Time Machine drive until the next scheduled back up.  There was a misconception that this drive SHOULD be identified as the Time Machine drive on boot up but that is not the case.  I waited for the next schedule back up after reboot and it DID recognize the drive and it appears to be working fine.
The Time Machine does start on boot up but does not indicate that the Time Machine is recognized until the back up is done then it is back on cycle and will operate normally until the next reboot where it will then refresh during that cycle and become recognized in green.  Until that time the drive will appear as a yellow icon for the disk.
Oh, by the way, the drive has external power on my WD 2 TB drive.
