  • DVD Will Not Eject, iDVD Restarts Itself Over and Over

I have a DVD that simply will not eject itself no matter what. Instead, it starts to eject, then iDVD starts up, and begins to play the DVD. I have unchecked "Start DVD" in iDVD's preferences and reviewed the forum articles about stuck DVDs. Reboot does not help Safe Boot does not help. Restart wth right mouse button held down does not help, perhaps because my mouse is Apple and there is no Right Mouse Button?
I'm not about to enter terminal commands because I have no idea of what I'm ding at teh system level. Any ideas?

    HI,
Try restarting your iMac while holding down the eject key.
If that didn't help, open Disk Utility (Applications / Utilities).
Select the disk on the left side of the window then click the Blue eject button in the menu.

  • Laptop hp pavilion dr clicks by itself

My hp pavilion dr is starting to click by itself, even in the sleep mode...What can I do to fix it?

    Hello Caninecatfish,
I understand you state that your computer is making a clicking noise, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.
The first thing you need to do is find the location of the noise. You can remove the side panel and turn the computer and try to verify the location of the clicking noise. Here is a document that will show you how to remove the side panel.
    Respond when you can.

  • Ahh, my new iPod Nano automatically ejects and disconnects itself, Help!

I brought a iPod Nano just a few days ago, and when I got home I managed to Sync a bunch of songs onto it. However, now when I try to sync movies, music, pictures, whatever onto it, the iPod ejects itself before I have to chance to do anything!
I've tried re-installing iTunes, it didn't seem to change anything.
I have tried updating the iPod software, but it doesn't work.
Also I have read other tips from other people who have had the same problem. Nothing they have suggested has worked.
    Help!

I'm having a similar and very frustrating problem. I originally synced my new iPod nano onto my MacBook Pro (OS X version 10.5.1), and had no problems. The frustrations began when I tried to transfer a few files from my old Windows computer; a window popped up and indicates that I have to reformat my iPod before it can be used (even when just transferring files).
Now, when I go to use it on my MacBook Pro, the iPod momentarily connects itself but then ejects itself almost immediately. The computer won't seem to read that it's connected and the iPod reverts to charging itself (it's fully charged).
I reset my iPod, I reinstalled the latest version of iTunes, I restarted my computer, I restored my iPod to its original settings... nothing seems to help at all.
    Why is this happening???

  • Disable eject key?

I have a 1.67 ghz 15" Powerbook and occasionally while typing I'll accidentally hit the eject key. This is frustrating because sometimes I'll have something in front of the slot area (namely my Rain Design iLap's wrist pad) and I have to scramble to lift the Powerbook before the CD/DVD ejects as I don't want it to try to eject and get stuck somehow by something in front of the optical drive.
Is there a way to disable the eject key or map it to a different key combo (like maybe I could have to hit TAB-EJECT or something, and hitting the eject button by itself will do nothing)?
Thank you for any and all advice.
    15" Aluminum Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Automator would be of no use, neither would Applescript... unless I knew of a command that could control individual keys. But if I knew the command I could just invoke it from Terminal. If there is a Unix command (or one specific to OS X) then I could easily either a) create a delay so that the eject key has to wait x-seconds before ejecting media or b) disable the eject key entirely, and make a key combo that would eject it (say, TAB-EJECT or whatever).
I'm delving in to the Unix option as I have experience in that field. Thank you very much for your ideas. It is helpful and I'll keep everyone posted if I find a solution for my MacBook Pr, erm, Powerbook.

  • Blank CD wont show and then ejects.

Ok so, I buy a black Cd, I put it on my MacbookPro, I wait and wait and wait, NOTHING SHOWS UP, and then ejects all by itself.
    Things I have already tried:
*On iTunes>File>Burn Playlist to Cd>Insert a Blank Cd... WHEN A BLACK CD IS ALREADY IN
    *Download ALL latest versions
    And thats it.
And no I have not being ripped off. I have a bunch of blank CDs and brought so many.

  • Can't eject this cd

hi, I burned a cd with toast today, then another. the second one when finished did not eject, I quit toast as usual, I tried ejecting multiple times to no avail, I tried booting with the mouse held down, I tried using the terminal to eject, ejecting from finder windows, etc, nothing is working. Here's what happens when I attempt to eject it at all:
sounds like it is going to eject but then does not eject and remounts itself on the desktop, it is an audio cd and it can be played and read from in the finder as well as itunes, it's just a cd-r with no label. it's almost as though something is blocking it from ejecting. I tried calling apple and they were busier than usual and couldn't get to me before there support hours ended, I have the apple care protection plan and the imac is just over a year old. I read some posts about turning the imac on it's side, sticking things in, etc, but I won't try that and possibly screw it up more or void my warranty. any help is appreciated. thanks.

Did you try all the method listed in this article?

Well, except the one about using the emergency eject hole.

  • Cannot transfer anything to iPod & cannot eject

This is all since upgrading to 10.4.
Essentially i was having problems backing up using the 'dotmac' Backup, whereby the backup process hung & I couldn't cancel the app or eject the ipod without crashing the finder which in turn wouldn't relaunch. Even system monitor wouldn't cancel the app.
I suspected the fault was the iPod (20gb - 3G)so ran the latest iPod software updater which told me to restore. After doing so(successfully)it wouldn't mount at all!
I then tried to examine it with Disk Utility which basically gave me loads of bad permissions etc. After repairing it i then had to mount it manually wth Disk Utility. Despite all this when it did mount and recognised by iTunes it will not transfer anything. Have tried it with hard disk use enabled & unenabled to no use. Have had error 36 & am examining the knowledgebase article on what the do with that. the best I get is that it starts the process of transferring but hangs on the first track. I also get a message saying one or more tracks can't be transferred before the trasnfer process begins, which I acknowledge; have even deleted the specific track mentioned, which was a 3g movie I made using Quick Time pro 6.5.1 (now updated) to test the video abilities of iTunes 4.9. iTunes also hangs and iPod won't eject via iTunes itself or the Finder, both of which hang and won't quit/relaunch.
I have to say until yesterday 10.4 ran fine since installed last week. Now I cannot transfer music or even use it as a hard disk as when I try simply to drag files across via the finder it gives me a message about the filenames being too long, even when some are less than 10 characters.
Upshot is I cannot backup to iPod as I have sone happliy for 1 year+ & cannot use to play music. I bought it last June so its not in warranty either.
having sat up to 2.30 am to try & fix this (& then had to get up @ 6.30 for work) I am exhausted.
I have probably repeated myself but wanted to get all info across so some genius could help.
Discussions have always been my saviour (more so than Apple support!) so i am hoping this will be true this time.
    Someone heeeeelllllp!

    Isaac,
While I never got my dual G5 to work properly using USB, I did isolate the problem.
After researching the issue, I purchased a firewire connector. When the iPod is connected to my dual G5 using a firewire connector, iTunes no longer complains with -36 errors.
Some users believe that if the USB bus has many devices connected to it, especially USB 1.0 and 1.1 devices, those devices will interfere with the transference of files on that. My dual G5 does have a number of devices connected to the USB bus and I cannot simply disconnect them, so I decided to use the firewire bus and have not had a single problem since.
Though I did not mention it in my earlier post, my iPod works perfectly with the USB bus on my 12" iBook, which only has one USB 1.1 device attached.
Good luck and report back if you find any new information.

  • IPOD Classic won't show up in Itunes 9.0.2.25

Hello, Hopefully someone here can help me. I upgraded from Itunes 7.6 to 9.02.25. It looked like it loaded fine, I downloaded music to the library, but when I plugged my IPOD in, it dings, says "connecting" on the IPOD screen, but never shows up in ITUNES. It does list under my computer, for about 3 seconds, before it says "ejecting" and disconnects itself. I have tried everything at this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363 - twice - including doing a full recovery on my computer. I tried switching the usb cable and port, I've rebooted the ipod several times - and in disk mode 2x, I also tried the troubleshooting here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493. Basically, I've deleted itunes about 20 times and reloaded. I finally thought, screw it and tried to load 7.6 back (i have it on disc, as I live in a rural area and couldn't freaking download it a couple years ago) but i just get an error that I can't download the 7.6 version as I have a newer library. BTW, Apple support basically said, Yep. sounds like a problem. Never heard of that before. What the heck is left to do?

Solved it. In my case, I had used a utility program I found in my Utilities folder called iPod Software Updater that I tried to updated the iPod software with... (it looked like it worked and then I used the restore function, which deleted all the music)...but it would still not appear in iTunes. Finally after a few hours of resets and restarts, I pressed the select and play keys for 6 secs and triggered a reset while I had the iPod plugged into the computer. Bingo...it showed up in iTunes and prompted me to download new software...which I did and now its back. Geez Apple, how did the iPod become such a killer product with an interface like this? So I assume this utility was for a different iPod model or older version OS.

  • Nano trouble

I made a thread the other day about some difficulties I had with my first Nano, and as neither the recommended troubleshooting, nor that suggested by anyone on these forums led to any avail, I opted to exchange it for a working unit.
Again, the Nano has not been functioning as it should, though it's been behaving differently than my last. When I first connected this new unit to my PC, I was prompted with a message saying that an iPod had been detected, and it appeared to be sorting itself out. Of course, then I was informed that an error had occurred during installation, and that my hardware would not function properly, then another prompt stating that the USB device was not recognized by windows, as it the foreign device had malfunctioned.
The iPod continually ejects and connects itself to my computer, though I haven't touched it since I first connected it. Occasionally, it resets itself. iTunes does not automatically open when the Nano is connected, and when it is opened manually, it does not recognize the Nano as existing (beforehand, it stated that the iPod was merely corrupt, and should be restored).
I've tried these "5 R's" for troubleshooting, everything save restoring the unit, only because I can't, seeing as iTunes doesn't acknowledge it.
Where should I go from here?

As you have already tried most things probably then next is this Restoring iPod to factory settings

  • Severe issues with Macbook Pro

    Hello,
My cousin has a Macbook Pro which is at least two years old, and it has been encountering some bad problems recently. There are two main problems described below.
    DVD Drive:
-Optical Superdrive makes clicking noises when trying to mount blank disks and fails to burn them, eventually ejecting them by itself. Apple had replaced it a while back, but they haven't kept information on the replacement so they refused to service it.
    Fans and Overheating:
-Computer reaches really high temeperatures and the fans vary randomly from 10RPM to 2003 RPM.
Thanks for your help. I understand that at this point, it seems as it has reached the end of its life, but I would really appreciate some help if anybody is familiar with MBP Hardware.
    Carpetfizz

Does your cousin have Applecare? If so, Apple should fix whatever is wrong. If your cousin is having problems with Applecare, he/she can ask to speak to Apple Customer Relations and perhaps they can help sort out the difficulty with the replacement optical drive.
Fans should idle at ~2000 RPM. If you have one at 10 RPM, it very likely needs to be replaced, and probably the other one as well since it may well be compromised by having been doing the work of two. The high temperatures are likely due to inadequate fan operation and hence inadequate cooling. Hopefully the high temperatures have not led to any damage--the computer is supposed to shut down first--but the fan problem is something that absolutely needs to be fixed.
Probably the best thing to do is to find the original grey system discs  and run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test, which will be on one of them.
Alternatively, make an appointment at the genius bar if you have access to an Apple Store and have them run their hardware test. Running a hardware test should be able to give you a good idea of all the things that could be wrong with the machine. That will give you the best information about what is wrong and what it might take to fix it.
If it's just the optical drive and the fans, the Mac could well be worth repairing. If something really expensive is wrong, like the logic board, then maybe not. You would have to weigh the costs of the repair against putting the same money towards a new Mac.
Also, Apple offers a depot repair for around $300-$350 if your Mac qualifies for it. This means no drops or spills or any other type of accidental damage. This might be an option to consider looking into if you get a high repair estimate.
    Good luck!

  • IPad problems after iOS5 update

Long process so I'll go through step by step.
I downloaded the iOS 5 update on Wednesday and backed up my iPad 1 (64gb, wi-fi) both seemingly without issue. Let iTunes do its thing and install the OS and restore my backup and while it seemed to update the software OK the backup failed. Tried again probably 10 times getting various errors (-35, -48, 4056xxx, not sure if those are exactly right but you get the idea) so I decided to delete the iOS 5 file from my computer, restore to factory settings and try downloading, installing and restoring again but got the same problems.
So I bit the bullet and accepted that somewhere in the backup the file may have been corrupted and tried to set it up as a new iPad with iOS 5. Got all my apps synced, but when it goes to sync my music/movies/etc. it will just stop and iTunes will just eject the iPad itself.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm not too worried about the restore as I can recreate my home screens and sign back into the apps that require it, I just want to get everything back on there.
EDIT: All this on a Mac running the newest versions of both Lion and iTunes.

Same problems here. Also browser issues, Safari (the worst), Atomic and Opera. Have tried every cache clearing and reset suggestion I can find. IOS 5 has been a royal pain. 5.01 didn't help anything here.

  • Bad Sectors, Frequent Resets, and Useless Restores

    Hello all,
After much effort to restore my iPod back to its original happy state, it has refused to emerge from its purgatory. Right now, this is its status: iPod refuses to sync more than 1.45GB of data (it has 80GB capacity), iPod refuses to restore properly (problems such as various errors, -1418, -40, -50 are not resolved), upon proper ejection, iPod resets itself before the timer runs out.
I have attempted restoration from various states, Disk Mode, Regular Mode. I have attempted to repair the disk with the disk check utility. Nothing has changed.
And here's some more monkey's to throw in the barrel. Right now I do not live conveniently near an Apple Store, Santa Barbara. Also, I will be leaving the country soon, to Japan.
Here are my questions. What, if anything, may I do to resolve this issue, by myself? If that isn't the case, most likely, would going to an Apple store be troublesome if I had to go to a different city, San Francisco? (with a receipt from the retailer I purchased the iPod, Amazon.com) And, more ludicrous I can assume, would I be able to take care of this issue while in Japan, if the repair cannot be done in a timely fashion?
Sorry for the length and complexity of this issue.

These proceedures might work for you. For best results it might pay to disconnect any unnecessary USB devices & power-cycle your computer before starting to eliminate potential driver clashes.
    *Checking hard-drive for errors*
Hold Menu+Select on your iPod for about 6 seconds until it resets, then hold Menu+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Connect to your computer, closing iTunes if it opens. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors* (Optional - takes ages but a good idea if you've reason to suspect physical damage). Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you can reset the iPod (hold Menu+Select ) and should stand a better chance of a successful restore.
Once you've restored your iPod don't rush to dump all the data back exactly as it was before. Complex smart playlists can sometimes trigger constant reboots or dumping of the iPod's library. In addition, larger transfers can fail leaving data in an inconsistent state. Try this technique for populating the iPod in stages.
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete disconect the iPod & check that it can play the music you've downloaded to it. Now modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos etc. and put back any playlists that you want on the iPod.
