HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC power on/start windows issue

HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC, Windows 7 Pro. When powered on (using the power switch), the blue power light and amber hard drive lights on the front illuminate, but monitor shows no signal and the keyboard lights do not come on. F10 on the keyboard doesn't bring anything up on the screen either. Sounds like there is hard drive activity, but the amber light does not flash. If I put a bootable dvd in the drive, it appears to read the dvd, but does not boot from it (nothing appears on the monitor.) Monitor, keyboard and mouse have been verified operational. Hard drive data appears to be intact and have verified 12v and 5v operational from power supply. Haven't found a place to verify 3v power. Depressing the power switch does not turn the computer off, only way is to unplug the power cord. This sympton happened a couple of weeks ago, but after several power cycles, it booted fine and worked for a while. Not this time, though.

I understand that when you boot up, you get a blank screen. You also said that you know the keyboard, mouse and monitor are working. Hello,
         I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9280t CTO Desktop PC ... The memory card reader recently stopped working. I believe, maybe the firmware, and/or driver was deleted by one of my optimization softwares. I checked the "Device Manager" list and was unable to locate "any" memory card device.  All the USB plugs work fine. When I place an SD card in the memory card reader slot, the light comes on, but the computer does not recognize the card. The card does not show up in my "Computer" window with the other drives. I checked the card out on my other computer, and it worked fine.   I also have an HP laptop that I tested my SD cards on, and the cards worked fine on my laptop.
        I would appreciate any help, or suggestions, that any one might give.

I have a 2 year old HP Pavilion Elite i7 Desktop w Windows 7 and I desire to add a 3 TB Hard Drive. Can I add a 3TB Hard Drive (probably the Segate Barracuda XT 3TB HD) as a secondary drive without changes. If not, what should I do?

Make sure that the power supply unit is powerful enough. It's a desktop so adding a 2 or even 3TB hdd shouldn't be a problem..

How big of a hard drive can I install in my HP Pavilion Elite e9220y Desktop PC

Should be ok to use 2TB HDD and lower. Anything bigger/larger (capacity) than 2.2TB you may get problem and have to do more work to be able to get it right.

Step 1- Try booting to Startup Manager by holding Option/Alt key.
Select the boot source and click the right arrow.
Once booted, open System Preferences and select the desired boot volume.
Replacing the PRAM battery is likely wise if the machine keeps forgetting it's boot source.
If that doesn't work,
Step 2- Boot holding a mouse click, insert the OS X install disc and hold C to boot to the install disc.
Once booted, open Disk Utility and "Repair Disk" on the boot drive.
Once done, reboot normally.

HP Pavilion P2-1013w Desktop PC - UEFI Install with WIndows 8.1 Pro RTM causes hang

I have an HP Pavilion P2-1013W Desktop PC with the UEFI enabled bios.
With Windows 8.1 Pro RTM Build (MSDN Download available now from Microsoft - Released September 17th 2013 - Again,. this is 8.1, a.k.a. Windows Blue RTM)
SATA Mode is set to AHCI
BIOS is UEFI Enabled
I boot from the Windows 8.1 Pro USB Installation Media using the UEFI: USB Storage option, Windows Setup starts. I get to the partitions screen, remove the partitions then click New. Windows Setup creates the 4 Partitions (Recovery, MSR, System and Primary) as expected.
When I click Next and Setup begins to copy files, the system locks up. The mouse pointer stops moving, keyboard is unresponsive, and it will sit at 0% for as long as it's left on.
After checking, Microsoft makes a few notes about the requirements. Setup will not run if the OS does not match the UEFI 'bitness'. If this were the issue, I would get a text-mode message about it being the wrong architecture. I don't get that. I get the install wizard, so it is supported.

And I suspect this is a version problem as the original Windows 7 install was a UEFI install, not Legacy. It appears the BIOS firmware I have installed is not compatible with Windows 8.1.
Will an update be made available? Or will I have to revert to WIndows 7 UEFI, and upgrade?

We're moving to Munich in a few months. Will my desktop work in Germany (i.e., is there a power cord I can buy that will go from the CPU to an outlet). I'd prefer not to have to use an adapter long term. Thanks!

You will need a converter to change the power from DC to AC. Check with electronics shops for your best choice.

It has been a long time since we lived in Germany, but I don't believe there is any way to avoid the adaptor. You have to change the power from the DC used in Germany to the AC your computer requires. It's a pain, but better than nothing.

HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Desktop and Fire Wire 1394

I have the above mentioned Desktop. It has a 1394 plugin on the front of case. Does the Pavilion come with all the software to make fire wire work? I backed up my hard drive onto an Toshiba external disk with a USB cable the other day and it took 6 hours. Isn't fire wire suppost to transfer data faster than a USB cable? Is there any special things I need to know when buying fire wire 1394.
I was looking on the internet the other day and they showed fire wire with 4 and 6 pins. Looking into the hole on my computer it only looks like 3 pins?

Rick, welcome to the forum.
There is no software necessary for Firewire (IEEE 1394a). The driver is installed with the OS.
Here is the Motherboard Specifictions page for the computer. It only shows that there is a Firewire (IEEE 1394a) port (# 11) in the Back I/O ports.
Here is an article that shows the comparison of speed of Firewire vs USB. Firewire was developed by Apple.

Pavilion p6-2203a Desktop PC . Operating system Windows 8, 64-bit

I am having trouble with my keyboard. Some of the keys I use in conjunction with the Shift key do not produce the symbols I want - especially those above the number keys. For instance Shift+3 produces the £ sign instead of the hash symbol (which I cannot locate anywhere on my keyboard) and the @ sign has to be produced by using the Shift key + the " key. I have sent email messages to HP Help online, have followed the instructions they have given me regarding re-setting my input options in the Control Panel, but to no avail.
Can someone help me with this frustrating issue I have.

I'm assuming you are using Win 7.
It seems like your keyboard isn't set to US Region.
Please go to Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region. Click on "Change Keyboards or other input methods". Click on "Change keyboards". Capture a screenshot and post it here.

HP Pavilion 15-n253sv Notebook Computer does not start (Windows 8)

Hello, yesterday my laptop shut down and since then it cannot start.
Even with repair/install disks of windows (8.1) or Linux, it recognises the disk, gets to the first menu (of the Linux disk) or the press any key to boot from cd/dvd (on windows disk) but then it get to a blank screen and does nothing else.
I run the System tests (quick and extensive) and both found (pretty quickly I might add) an error on the HDD (I think).
the error Id istrk03-74j79q-mfpv6j-60wc03 but I cannot find any reference of that on the web.
I suppose that since it is a hardware issue I will have to take it to HP support, the main thing that concerns me (as you might have already guested) is if I might lose any files.

Yes, I just took it to a service support and they told me just that, if I want to keep my files I would have to pay extra.
The live cd solution was my first thought too but (as I wrote at my original post) it doesn't seem to be hopeful either.
It gets to the first stage of the disks (boot menu of linux live disk/press any key to boot from disk on the windows disk) and then it gets to blank screen doing nothing as well, also the optical drive stopped reading the disk (that is how I figure that's doing nothing). :-(
Anyway thank you for your good will but I suppose I would have to pay for the recovery if I do not want to void my warranty.
PS:By the way and since you mentioned it, the issue with the bootable disks can it be connected with the hard disk failure?

E9280t boots to Starting Windows and then monitor loses signal

PC just arrived last night and is giving me fits. Upon boot it will proceed to the Starting Windows and then the monitor goes black and I get a No Input Signal message. I can hear the Windows startup sounds but it will never go any farther.
I can furiously click to put the system to sleep and after it goes into sleep mode I can power the system off and back on and it will boot to Resuming Windows and then work fine. However the next time I reboot the system it goes back to the Starting Windows issue.
Help please of this thing is going back to HP in pieces.
Video Card is ATI 4850 1GB
Motherboard bios version is 5.24

If you can enter setup, then go into the bios and see if the hard drive and the CD/DVD are recognized. If you can't get past the entering setup message then try the below procedures.
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. You might want to buy a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink. Plug your PC back in and give it a go.
Try this procedure and see if you can isolate the issue. Trouble Shooting Power Supply Issues. Don’t skip any steps.

How can I add USB 3.0 to my HP Pavilion Elite HPE-190t CTO Desktop PC? It uses Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS.
I can't tell how many or if there are expansion slots inside the case. Is there a reliable source for such an expansion card?

Considering the different options that PC could have been ordered with, it might be there is not an empty slot to mount a PCI add-on card to add a USB 3.0 card. It would be advisable to open the case to see if there is an empty slot. If there is, then THIS is a choice to add USB 3.0

I need help to replace my power supply for the hp pavilion elite m9510f

This computer has given me many problems since I bought it in '09. From graphic card fan issues, a hard drive crash, and now the power supply has failed.
I did the blow dryer trick but it still ends up breaking a week later. I want to know what new power supply should I buy. One that will be able to fit in the hp pavilion elite m9510f and is an upgrade to the 350w that it has. Maybe somthing under 60-70 dollars if possible. Thanks for any help.

Just an example of what is availble, but most any should work as long the physical dimensions match the one installed now.
