HP Pavilion Elite monitor sleeps, no LED

Hello,
If anyone could assist me that would be great. I just found some new RAM sticks and was going to put them in my computer. In the process, I had to disconnect and remove the CPU fan in order to get to the RAM. I then took out the old RAM sticks and put in the new, as well as reinstalled the fan. However, when I turn on the computer no LED displays on the front panel and the monitor goes to sleep. I tried putting back in the old RAM and it continues to do this.
Thanks.

    HP Pavilion Elite M9258
70 percent of the time will not boot up.
Computet light is on. DVD drive will open and shut. Fans sound slightly quieter when this happens.
The monitor comes on but the light goes to  orange. When I press any of the monitor buttons, it flashes a message for a few seconds telling me it is in sleep mode and invites me to move the mouse or press a key to continue
The problem is that the USB ports are not recognised by the computer at this point. The infra red mouse light flashes briefly when the computer is switched on then goes and remains off. The keyboard is also unresponsive.
The sole fix that  I can find is to repeatedly turn the computer off and on again. After 70 -100 attempts ( over 4 to 6 hours) it suddenly boots up normally. The problem began a year ago and is increasing in duration and severity.

I have unplugged all external devices like you told avro500 to do and I did finally get it started but the computer still freezes and it is doing it more often as time goes by! I even paid HP support the $100 dollars (or around that amount) to fix it but it keep happening even after they worked on it but it was after the 7 days or what ever their policy is! They downloaded some security suites and ran their scans! They left Advanced system care, ccleaner and superantispyware on my computer and I was just wondering if they could be conflicting with my paid norton internet security? I have become very flustrated because first off I paid a lot of money for this computer and it's not even 2 years old yet and I also have paid HP a lot of money to fix it and all the guy from India could say to me was "I have been working on this computer and it hasn't froze up so the problem must be fixed!" Well it's not!! and I don't know enough to fix it myself so thats why I paid you a hundred dollars to do it for me! haha thanks for any help!

  • HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3

HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3.  When I purchased the monitor a few weeks ago it worked perfectly when computer was in clamshell mode or with lid open. Now external display has stopped working.  When I turn on display it scans for signal but does not find it and then immediately goes into sleep mode.  I am using a DVI connection with the adapter for the mini display plug.  REALLY FRUSTRATING. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

  • HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC power on/start windows issue

HP Pavilion Elite e9280t Desktop PC, Windows 7 Pro.  When powered on (using the power switch), the blue power light and amber hard drive lights on the front illuminate, but monitor shows no signal and the keyboard lights do not come on.  F10 on the keyboard doesn't bring anything up on the screen either.  Sounds like there is hard drive activity, but the amber light does not flash.  If I put a bootable dvd in the drive, it appears to read the dvd, but does not boot from it (nothing appears on the monitor.)  Monitor, keyboard and mouse have been verified operational.  Hard drive data appears to be intact and have verified 12v and 5v operational from power supply.  Haven't found a place to verify 3v power.  Depressing the power switch does not turn the computer off, only way is to unplug the power cord.  This sympton happened a couple of weeks ago, but after several power cycles, it booted fine and worked for a while.  Not this time, though.

    HI JIMINFL:
How was your weekend, I  hope  it was super!
I understand that when you boot up, you get a blank screen. You also said that you know the keyboard, mouse and monitor are working.  I am sending you a link to a document on "Monitor or TV is Blank after Starting the Computer" click here. I am also sending "HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI" click here to test for hardware failures. Please let me know the outcome.

That depends on what type of connection your display has and whether or not your PC has a video card used for display or if you are using the onboard video outputs.
Do you really mean PC monitor ( the old school kind) or did you mean to say LCD display (thin flat screens) instead?

  • New monitor sleeps and causes computer shutdown

My system was working fine until I purchased and installed a new HP Pavilion 23bw monitor. We've got the monitor set for maximum resolution (1920 x 1080), which should be well within the capability for the dual ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphic cards we have installed.
The monitor has been going to sleep at strange times while the computer is up and running, often in the middle of a browsing session. The monitor loses a signal and cannot find one, cycling through them all and coming up empty even though it was JUST talking to the computer.  I haven't noticed any common thread as to when it loses the connection... it can be anytime while I'm doing anything.
Probably a related issue... I've got an old game called Stalker that I was using to test the monitor, and if I run it long enough (in any resolution), the computer shuts down.  The monitor goes dark and then the computer powers down. Usually on reboot, the monitor initially works but "sleeps" and loses connection before the windows login screen is reached... a second reboot is necessary to bring the system back up properly.
Let me be clear, this is behavior that wasn't happening two days ago with our old monitor... the odds are that something with the monitor is the issue, as that's the only piece of hardware that changed.  To clarify: the computer shuts down while playing a 1st person shooter game, and the monitor "goes to sleep" and loses signal during more normal operations.
I originally attached the monitor using the VGA cable, but I have switched that to the DVI cable and am seeing the same behavior.
I'm running Windows 7 SP1, and the driver information is as follows:  Driver date: 3/20/2013, Version 3.0.0.0 (monitor.sys version 6.1.7600.16385).
I would appreciate any help, as this is incredbily frustrating.  Thanks in advance...

    Hello,
What computer model do you have?
If you use your old monitor now, does this problems go away?
Can you try to make a monitor reset on the menu of the monitor? Its called factory reset.
Have  you installed HP Driver for the monitor and HP My Display that comes on the CD?
If you havent install the driver, try to do it and if you have installed HP My Dispplay, do remove it.
    Let me know.

  • Pavilion 22bw monitor - problem with Windows 7

Hello all, I have lately been having a problem with my HP Pavilion Slimline Windows 7 PC recognizing my HP Pavilion 22bw monitor (purchased separately from the PC). This problem was, for a while, sporadically popping up after the computer/monitor went to sleep and "reawoke", but is now basically happening every time I reboot.
The basic problem is: The monitor display is always at a low resolution and is often weirdly offset to the right, and the desktop extends beyond the screen. The display settings under Windows (Windows 7 Home Premium,  6.1.7601 Service Pack) only recognize the monitor as "Generic Non P&P Monitor". This is new and concurrent with the problem, as I have used this monitor and its HP driver with no issues for months.
I have tried re-installing the display drivers, fiddling with the power management settings, and plugging/unplugging the monitor, all to no avail. I tried manually setting resolution through the software and the display hardware as well.
Any ideas? Could it be a conflict with the graphic driver (onboard Intel)?
The strange thing is this started happening with no other computer changes, like new hardware/software, occurring, to my memory.
Thanks much to any who might have some insight.
    tcoreyb

    Hi tcoreyb,
What version of Win 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) and what is the product number of your Slimline PC?
Try setting the monitor back to factory settings using the monitor's On Screen Display. If the symptom persists, then navigate to Control Panel - Device Manager - Monitors and uninstall the current monitor display driver.
Reboot your system. If the symptom persists, try installing the HP monitor display driver and utility tools found here  if your operating system, (OS), is 64 bit or here  if your OS is 32 bit.
If this does not correct, then try reinstalling your Slimline, factory installed, Intel graphics driver via HP's  Recovery Manager driver reinstallation instructions.
Can you test the monitor on a different computer? That may help to isolate the problem to either the monitor or a graphics driver problem.

  • HP Pavilion 25bw monitor has narcolepsy

I have a HP Pavilion 25 bw montor that I use with a Thinkpad laptop.  I shut both down at the end of each day.  This morning the monitor won't turn on.  When I turn it on it automatically goes to sleep.

    Hello @gatesgrad,
I understand that your HP Pavilion 25 Monitor goes to sleep when you start up your computer and you would like some assistance. I am setting out some steps for you to follow below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the issue persists after this you can try the monitor on another computer to see if it continues. If it does it appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Touch quit working on my Pavilion 23tm monitor

The touch on my Pavilion 23tm monitor just quit working.  What to do?

I've had my monitor touchscreen stop working three times now, sometimes for weeks.  All technical solutions and searches for information on how to resolve lead no where.  Once the screen just started working again after a few weeks. Some background first on the setup and environment.  My monitor is powerd up 7/24 and my win/8 machine is either on or sleeping 7/24 usually. After reading in this forum that someone just turned the monitor off and on and resloved their problem, I tried it and the touchscreen was working right away. I saw so many other people's posts on their HP Pavillion 23tm touchscreen monitor not working but without resolution. Just try using the power switch on the lower right edge of the monitor.  If this resolves your problem then it is very easy ans simple to resolve.

  • Pavilion Elite e9180f freezes, crashes, BSOD

I am one of the many unhappy customers who bought this piece of junk (Pavilion Elite e9180f) and waited too long to return it because in my naivete, I thought it was some kind of simple software issue.  Nope!  It's definitely something wrong with the hardware, because the freezes and crashes have been happening since day 1, right when I took the thing out of the box.
Yeah, the system is fast and runs Windows Vista great, when it's actually WORKING, which is usually only guaranteed for about the first 5 minutes after you power the system on and boot windows.  After that, it's just buying time before it crashes again.  Forget trying to get anything done on this computer.  Forget about asking this PC to play a video or music file without the files "stuttering" during playback.  Even my 7 year old Sony Vaio which is running XP can handle playing an MP3 file without stuttering and crashing!
Like everyone else, the freezes and crashes happen either one of two ways:
    1) The machine begins to "stutter", stutter more, then freeze/crash.  When I say stutter, I mean I move the mouse, the pointer graphic will hesitate on the screen and lag behind.  If you start to play a video or music file, this manifests in an audible "stutter".  The stuttering gets worse and worse as minutes pass until eventually it freezes for good, blasting that 1/50th second moment of audio into infinity.  You have to reboot immediately if you don't want to go deaf or be driven mad.
    2)  I will be doing nothing at the time (example, I close all programs out and leave Windows sitting on the main desktop screen), I'll walk out of the room for a minute, then come back and find I can't move the mouse. This system will often lock-up without any warning!
Sometimes I'll get a BSOD or error screen, sometimes I won't (in which case your only option is to do a cold re-boot.)  When I do get the BSOD, the error is ALWAYS the "did not get a response from the secondary processor" yada yada.  I wish HP would just admit they shipped this model out with a bad processor/motherboard/whatever and do an official recall.  I have owned PCs for the last 13 years and this is the worst and most consistently disappointing experience I have ever had.
What is the hardware issue?  Which part is the lemon part?  The motherboard?  The processor?  The BSODs seem to indicate a bad processor.  I do have the Pegatron Truckee version 1.03 motherboard.  Is that the problem?
P.S.  I have contacted HP on many occasions about this, literally stayed on the phone for hours with "customer support" (according to one HP rep, 80% of their customer service reps are based outside of the United States...good luck getting any "technical" help from them) to no avail.  I did talk to one nice tech support guy in Canada who said "it sounds like your unit has a bad processor", so he had HP send me a box to ship my unit to their repair center so they can replace the processor.  However, I have also had HP reps tell me it could be anything from the memory to the hard drive.  Multiple HP reps claimed to me that they have "received no complaints" about this system.  One guy told me he "thought he got an email last week" regarding "something" about the system, but couldn't remember what it was and he put me on hold while he searched for the email.  He never found it.  What a joke.
EDIT:  Just to clarify, the crashing issue has been happening since day one, but initially I thought it was an issue with Vista.  I had never owned or used Vista before, so I thought maybe Vista was just unstable.  Nope.  I know several people who own Vista and have never experienced these issues.  I have downloaded every update from Microsoft/Windows Update.  I have upgraded to Vista SP2 with all the latest drivers and software for all of my hardware.  No luck.  It is definitely a hardware issue.  Thank god HP's warranty is good for 1 year (I bought my Elite in July).
Message Edited by Doonyman on 09-24-2009 02:58 AM

Unfortunately I have to add my disastrous encounter with HP's E9180F a true lemon HP is selling. I must take some responsibility for not carefully researching this model before I purchased, but I trusted the HP name and got stung- big time.
    The scoundrel  :
HP and its Pavilion Elite e9180f
    Windows 7 64bit
motherboard - Pegatron  Truckee ver 1.03
    BIOS ver  5.22Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
    Memory 9206 MB Ram
As so many others have reported my HP E9180f started locking up and going to BSOD right out of the box. My first freeze-up came when I was doing the Windows update process. At first I didn't think much about it but I started getting random freezes a couple time a day. At that point I went online to see if others had experienced the same problem and perhaps had a fix. What I found was very troubling;  I found extensive documentation describing my exact problems and what was really horrifying was the reports of how ridiculous HP's help services were treating people with the problem. At first I didn't totally believe what I was reading on HP's own customer forum; I do now.
    ·         I've went through the total recovery process three times now, HP techs have spent hours remotely running my computer, (yes it did lock up on them to)
    ·         I had to upgraded the BIOS. (HP tech tried, said he had, but he hadn't)
    ·         I was directed to clear the BIOS (luckily for me I had the tools
    ·         Updated all drivers again and again.
    ·         Next I was asked to remove the video card, memory, and motherboard power cable and reseat them. I declined because I didn't want to give HP any reason to void my HP 2 year House Call Care Pack which covers this unit. When I invited HP to send a service tech out to perform these tasks, they said that house call only covers part replacement, we weren't replacing a part. I couldn't believe what I was told. Are you feeling my frustration?
Keep in mind that each time HP requests that I make changes, they then ask me to test the system, which I did and each time with the same result, BSOD
I'm heading into my fifth week of working with HP to fix this problem. and I still haven't even been able to get my case moved up to a senior case manager, what a joke HP's help process is.
     One conversation I loved was;
HP tech: "I'll have a senior case manager call you within 24 hours."
Skeptical me: "What should I do if I don't get a call?"
    Silence, no response.
Me again: "What should I do if I don't get a call?"
    HP tech: "That's an impossibility."
Guess what? The impossibility became reality (I bet you guessed) .
HP's last stall tactic was to have me fax them my proof of purchase and invoice and call back in 24 hours. Where have I heard that before? Apparently nothing can go forward until they receive it. So I faxed them the stuff within 10 minutes, and when I called back 24 hours later, guess what, you're right it wasn't on their system yet. I asked couldn't I be escalated to a senior case manager  (it's apparent that only a senior case manager can do anything). "No," was the tech's reply, "call back again later".
Please if anyone out there knows the secrete to getting a senior case manager, or an HP tech support number here in the U.S. so I can get this thing fixed I'd love to know it.
    Fast becoming HP never again.

  • External HP Pavilion 23xi monitor cuts off laptop audio

I want to use my HP Pavilion 23xi monitor as an external monitor for my laptop (Sony Vaio, Windows 7).  The laptop only has an HDMI connection, so I used an HDMI cable to connect it.  The HP monitor works fine, but when it is connected, it cuts off all audio output on the laptop.  There is no sound from the internal speaker on the laptop, or from the headphone connection.
If the HDMI connection automatically takes over the audio output, surely there should be at least a headphone socket on the PC?  I can't change the connection type, as the laptop only has HDMI for an external monitor.  Is there any configuration change that will fix this?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
As you mentioned, the HDMI sound may take over sound, disable HDMI sound may help. Pleae try:
    Right click the speaker icon
    Select Playback devices
Right click HDMI sound and disable it

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and its the same, I tried to update the drivers and firmware on your site and still did not work. Please some help.

    Arcticwolf, welcome to the forum.
Let's try another burner to see if that helps solve your problem.  I have used CDBurnerXP for years.  It has burned CD/DVD's when no other burner would work.
Please let us know if this solves your problem or not.

    Joey, welcome to the forum.
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome?  Sometimes a glitch will occur during the original install.  This can cause the problem that you are experiencing.
Also, you may want to try Internet Explorer or Firefox to see if you receive the same error message.  This will tell you if it is a problem with Chrome or a system problem.
