HP pavilion g6-2005AX Hard disc partition

My laptop is new one which is HP Pavilion g6-2005AX. The operating system is Windows 7 Home Basic.
When I tried to do hard disc partition, it failed showing one warning "The operation you selected may convert the selected basic disc to dynamic disc.If you do so you cannot start the installed programs from any volume on the disc."
Then I called HP. They told me to create recovery discs from the "HP recovery manager window". They said that they will call after completing this. I have followed what they said and created 5 recovery DVDs. Now they are not calling. I tried to call them many times, but they are too busy.
Please help me how can I proceed to do the hard disc partition.

Hi,
There is an excellent guide on this subject by Daniel_Potyrala on the following link.

  • How can I make a hard disc partition?

    Dear sir/madame,
I have a mac OS X leopard with one partition and I want to upgrade to Lion, I have an external hard disc and I am always making backup on it, so is it safe to upgrade my system without copying all my data to the external HD?
And if I make a new partition on my system and put all data I need on it, then I install the Lion on the other partition, will the data be deleted?
    With thanks in advance,,,
    Nadim

It is always recommended that you have a complete and up-to-date backup of your system disk before doing a major upgrade like Lion. Although it should go smoothly, you never know when there might be a problem. And that is no matter what kind of computer you use.
You can use Disk Utility on your Mac to partition a hard disk. But I don't know if it can do it without erasing the disk. Older versions always erased the disk, but newer ones might not. Regardless, once again, the recommended practice is to have a complete and up-to-date backup of any disk you are going to partition.

  • External Hard Disc - Partitions - Using TM

I have upgraded my iMac to Leopard and installed an Iomega minimac 500 Gb EHD. I searched for advice on discussions and then created 3 partitions. 60 Gb Rescue, for clone of Leopard, 80Gb Last, for previous Panther clone, 325Gb for Back up. Query is: if I use Time Machine, do I need seperate partition for Rescue? If I use TM in Back up volume, should I also save my photos and video iDVD's seperately by creating a spaces( volumes or folders) for them as well?
I don't really want to reformat as I will lose my cloned Panther volume.

Thanks Kappy for your quick reply. I would use CCC for the cloning. My question really concerns the use of TM in the Back up volume. Will I be OK to rely on TM to keep back up of all my photos and videos? Or would I be able to set up separate folders for that purpose. I propose to scan and file a lot of slides(transparencies) which I want to make sure that I can keep for the future.
Hope you can understand what I am trying to say here. Glad of any help you can offer.

  • New Hard Disc Drive for HP Pavilion dv6 because of 303 and 305 error messages

    Hello
My laptop was getting slower and slower so I did a default restore via the recovery partition and when it rebooted to start the reformat and reinstall to factory condition I got a message on the screen telling me to run the hard disc drive test. Did this and got the 303 and 305 error messages. The restore to default setting worked however after doing research in the error codes I realise I'm up for a new hard disc drive.
My laptop is  a HP Pavilion dvd6-3203TU with WIndows 7 Home Premium installed. It currently has a 320GB TOSHIBA MK3265GSXX hard disc drive in it.
After reading through the forums I'm happy to find that my Recovery Discs will reinstall everything to a new hard drive and partition it into a C: drive and also the recovery partition. The main question I have is does my new hard drive have to be 320GB in size like the original or can I buy something like a 500GB+ drive for the laptop. If I have to replace the hard drive I may as will increase the size while at it, if possible that is.
Also does it have to be a Toshiba or can I buy a different brand?
Looking forward to some help in regards to this so thank you in advance also
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Your notebook is listed as coming with a 320Gb Hard Drive, but you can just as easily install a 500Gb or 750Gb HDD if you want more space - the drives on the following links are examples that would be fine for your notebook - you're in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer.
    500Gb Hard Drive
    750Gb Hard Drive.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 65 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

    Perfect Solution to Problem:
    Precautions:
1.Create your recovery DVD's from recovery partition before proceding, or order them from hp so as in case of any error or in worst case system can be set to factory restore.
    2.BACK UP YOUR DATA.
3.FOLLOW ON YOUR OWN RISK , NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR DATA LOSS , SYSTEM CRASH, OR LOSS OF RECOVERY PARTITION.
4.Hopefully you have read this , if any consequences arises take it on your part , nothing to do with it, you can leave the rest of reding part if not ready,
    THANKS FOR READING........
OOP'S you are here,,,,,,,,,then lets continue at your risk..........
    Statement:
You are using this guide at your own risk. I don't take any responsibility for any problems.
    Important informations !
Before you will do anything please create a set of recovery discs and back up all important data.
Both these steps will save you a lot of troubles if something will go wrong.
                Resource:
             From experience
Remember that if you will decide to use the recovery discs or the F11 option to restore the PC to its originalcondition, all partitions which were created by you will be lost and all the data which were stored on them willalso be lost.
    Introduction:
Below screenshot shows pre-configured partitions on HP notebook with pre-loaded Windows 7.
As you see mounted HDD has four primary partitions:
C - partiton with the operating system.
HP_TOOLS - partition which allow to use diagnostic tools after pressing F2 on startup.
RECOVERY - partiton which allows to recover system by pressing F11 on startup.
SYSTEM - active partition which boots the operating system.
Here begins our problem. A standard partition table is only able to store information about four partitions.
This means that a hard disk could have a maximum of four partitions. The four standard partitions are oftencalled the primary partitions.
To deal with this limitation we may:
----> Delete hp tools partiton , and create new logical partion, BUT RECOVERY MEDIA SET HAVE BEENCREATED BEFORE......
    PROCESS:
    Note:
    Please perform each operation individually.
Using several operations at one time may end with fatal error.
1.Hope you have your recovery media , recovery media dvd set and DRIVER DVD,if not then please get it first for safety..
    2. Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition.
3.Please back all of your data on HARDDISK before proceding.......
4.Go to START> COMPUTER > RIGHT CLICK ON IT > MANAGE
5.A window opens, select disk management from it , given on left hand side....
6.It will display your harddisk partitions as displayed in image.....carefully locate HP_TOOLS Partition in given table.....
7.Right click on HP_TOOLS Partition and Delete it.........it will prompt for response say yes.........
8.Now must have left with 3 partitons.........HP_TOOLS have been deleted...
    9.Now action time...........
10.Start Minitool Partition wizard.......it will diaplay your partitons.........select C: partition......right click on it .....select option move/resize...
11.New dialog box appears displays currents stats use the drag corners on top to reduce size for C: drive ......set the new size according to use..........But new size must not be less than 150 gb to avoid any data loss.....
12.leave rest of options intact.........click ok...........this will return you to minitool partiton wizrd home screen........click on apply at leftmost top corner..........it asks for permission say yes........then it displays that drive is in use you need to restart............
    13.Click on Restart Computer........
14.Your Computer will restart in Mini tool partition boot mode dont press any key...........after loading it will start processing and shrinking............then copying data...........it will restart automatically after progress is done 100%..........be patient.........it takes upto 5-10 mins......
15.If every thing goes fine your computer will start normally.........then go to START> COMPUTER > RIGHT CLICK ON IT > MANAGE
    16. New window opens, select disk management from it , given on left hand side....now you can see your C: partition has been reduced in size according to your size specified...........and unallocated space have been created along by C: partion.
    17. Finally right click on unallocated space and select NEW SIMPLE VOLUME......a dialog box appers specify size to create a new logical partition...........you may create any number of logical drives till there is free space left...........
18.Now open My Computer ...........you can see your new custom partitions have been created........
    19. Done.........enjoy.......
    SUPPLEMENTARY:-
    1. You can create any image creation tool......to create image of your C: Partiton and save image in yourcustom created partitons.......
    2. In future if you want to recover system,,,,,you may use your created image using imaging software forrestoring your C: partiton......may be helpfull instead of running recovery.........
    Drawbacks:
Running Recovery form DVD or recovery partiton may delete your custom created partitons...........all datamay be lost.....so regularly backup your data.....

  • Removal of Partition on Computer Hard Disc

I have a partition on my hard disc which was originally created for disc repair software which I no longer use (the partition is named "E Drive")
Because of a corruption somewhere in my system which is preventing me from downloading Intego Software updates I am about to erase the hard disc and carry out a clean re-installation of OS X 5 Leopard. At the same time I want to remove the unwanted partition and cannot remember how to do it, I would be grateful if someone would give me the necessary instructions.
PS In an attempt to clear the Intego Updates Download problem I have carried out a repair of the disc permissions and re-installed Intego Update without any success whatsoever so it would appear that a total clean re-installation of OS X 5 Leopard is the only answer

If you are going to erase the drive, this is simple.
If you can start up from another startup disk, do so. If not, start up from the Leopard installation disk.
Run Disk Utility. If starting up from the Leopard disk, go up the menu at the first Installer screen to Utilities. Select Disk Utility.
Select the target drive in the sidebar. Make sure you select the DRIVE, not the volume indented below. Click on the Partition tab. For +Volume Scheme+ select *1 Partition*. Then name the partition, select +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ for Format, and click Apply.
After this process completes, quit Disk Utility. If you are started up from the Leopard installation disk, you can proceed with the installation.

  • How can I boot from my recovery dvd to reach the system recovery C: on a extern hard disc

I think a have a virus in my notebook Pavilion 15 and want to restore my C partition with a system back up. I made this system back up a month ago and it is stored on a extern hard disc. I have also made a recovery dvd. How can I boot my notebook from my dvd to start the procedure? I have 2 partions on my notebook. The second partition contains My Documents.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tineke

It is unlikely that the back-up of the system recovery, that you have stored on an external drive, will be useful in recovering your computer. Please see HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), for instructions on using the HP Recovery Disc set your created earlier. Typically, the disc set is 4 to 6 DVDs.

  • Hard Disc Not Exist

To start at the beginning; Just under 3 years ago, my ex wife bought my daughter (then 12) an HP G56-105SA.
A year ago my daughter moved back in with me, and brought it with her.
Just the lap-top and power supply. No Recovery discs; no manuals; just the bits she used.
Last week... she had teen-age hissy-fit, because it didn't work... this became MY problem.
Of course, being ancient and obtuse  and a PAIR-RENT...I am probably missing the obviouse, like that it's almost Christmas, and what she really wants is a new i-pad.... but she ent getting one... not off me least ways, so I'm stuck trying to fix this thing, so she can do her home-work, and be doubly ungreatful!
    So to the facts.
1/ I started by switching it on.... which resulted in black screen and 'No Bootable Device' message.
2/ Turned PC over, undid HDD cover; removed HDD, and cable; re-seated & replaced; turned on again. No Change.
3/ Removed HDD - Plugged into spare SATA slot on my desk-top.
    Curiousely, it threw up four drived;
E: which appeared to be a ghost, with nothing on and capacity of the discs full 250Gb.
F: Which was her C: Operating System partition; aprox 170Mb with all windows directories present and accessible.
    M: HP Restore
    N: HP Tools
As suspected... her C-Drive (My F) was chocka-block with barely 3% free space.
3.1/ I took my life in my own hands... and deleted six seasons of 'Glee'..... and transfered the less than a dongle sized directory called 'Home Work' to my desk-top. I emptied her recycle bins.
3.2/ I ran disc tools on my (Win XP) desk top; and applied Disc Clean Up. Took a while, and I dont think freed much.
3.3/ I ran disc tools....... and applied Scan Disc, full scan and fix... and 24 hours later it told me it had fixed things!
3.4/ I ran De-Frag... and another 24 hours later.. it looked reletively healthy; with about 40% free space.
4/ Returned Hard disk to Lap-Top.... pressed start.... same black screen! Pressed f2, used diagnostics; got 'Hard disc Not Exist'
5/ Asked Daughter if she had the HP Factory Restore discs..... she looked at me as only a teenager looking at ancient, obtuse, and utterly STOOOPID pair-rent can.... you know, like she had discovered something unsavory on the sole of her shoe, she had never seen before...... with added contempt.
Phone calls and text messages in her bedroom followed; the unhelpful conclusion of which was... "Mum says, you just run Recovery from the Hard Drive" ...  aparently she had argued that actually when teh computer was first switched on, it would have asked to 'make' recovery DVD's.... but aparently her big-brother had sorted that all out, and said you didn't need them, as it was... on the hard drive.... Can ANYONE tell me why I married the woman? I'm SURE there must have been a reason... but for the life of my I cant think what it could have been!
6/ I returned HDD to my desk-top. I found the pdf user manual, and found the 'make restore disc' instructions & tried running the make program on my desk-top.... it refused telling me what I already knew... my desk-top isn't an HP G56!
7/ HASSLED as home-work was now due, and she couldn't print it off my Desk-Top, as I dont have the latest version of MS Office she uses at school..... I went back to basics; pulled Windows 7 install disc from the draw, went to HP support and down-loaded ALL the driver files for an HP G56-105SA...
8/ WIPED THE LAP-TOP HARD DRIVE - in XP on desk-top, removed all partitions, then re-formatted the disc, ready for 'fresh' install of Windows 7 and 7 alone, without all the HP factory pre-installs.... get it running, and then worry about installing whatever software she wants/needs after seperately; and with bit of luck, without partisions or extraniouse would-you-like-fries-with-that programs cluttering it up; might give a bit more space so takes a bit longer till its clogged with 'glee' again.
9/ Inserted HDD in Lap-Top. Switched on... opened DVD draw; switched off. Inserted Windows 7 disc; switched on.
ALL looked very promicing, and Got windows back-ground, USB mouse, and win 7 install prompts... up to "Select partition to install operating system'.
HDD showed in the drop-down box as 'Disc 0' with full 250Gb available and healthy
BUT message below "Windows 7 cannot install on this divice - Not bootable" clicking for details... said check bios to ensure HDD management enabled.
10/ Switched off, went into bios... NO options for doing anything with HDD as far as I could see; while 'system diagnostics' chucked out error message "Hard disc Not Exist"
11/ Repeated Windows install... and at prompt tried putting in DVD of down-loaded HP Drivers to load a disc controller... told me there were no drivers on the DVD ( they were all executables I presume intended to be run after Windows install)
12/ My 'data' Hard-Drive was sat on teh desk where I had removed it to plug in her lap-top disc. JUST for reference... I removed her Lap-top HDD and plugged my Desk-Top HDD in to see if the lap-top would recognise ANY disk... answer no it didn't.
SO... it would appear that the Lap-Top HDD is 'OK' we have fault on the Lap-Top, which recognises the HDD under windows install... but not under the Bios.
I found this forum looking for hints where to go next, and did find this thread: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/my-laptop-says-my-hard-disk-does-not-exi...
BUT, whils seemingly the same problem... that was fixed by my first intuative check, taking the HDD out and replacing it.... but ent solved this one.
So what next? I'm starting to run out of inspiration... and no chance is she having a new lap-top this christmas!

Follow the instructions on this tutorial page to make a DBAN on a usb flash drive that is at least 1GB.
OK, followed instructions; down-loaded and ran executable. Selected DBAN v2.2 from drop down as instructed (only option with DBAN in title); 2nd dialogue asked for ISO file, entered DBAN in download dir; it asked to create, clicked 'y', then selected 4GB USB flash as destination, and 'run'. Went into a command screen, and 'did-stuff' with two error messages; first saying something couldn't be found; second that DBAN 2.2 'not supported'.
Popped dongle into the Lap-top anyway; files were written to it; entered Bios and set Boot order to USB-Floppy first... returned "BootMNGR is Missing" & prompted re-start.... A USB thumbdrive (or flash disk) is not a dongle. That is a different technology for licensing firmware contained in a usb device.
So, tried & failed, BUT.. the lap-top hard drive is 'blanked' It's been scanned, formatted, un-partitioned & reformatted, and shows as a factory fresh HDD would out the packet. So do I really need to use DBAN to 'nuke' it? Yes. it is a good plan to nuke the hard disk. It sounds like you need a different tutorial than the one I provided.
then do a Windows 7 install.  This time use the Microsoft store's  Windows 7 DVD\USB download utility to make a usb installer.
Thanks; but I dont really want to buy another licence for an operating system (I actually dont much like!) I already have licences for, already have DVD's for, but not bought through Microsofts Down-Load platform so I dont have anything in my purchase history and so would have to buy as if new JUST to get a version that loads through a USB port.. when its loading hapily enough from DVD... just not happy to install to the HDD, its actually recognising, and I'm just as likely, I presume, to get the same problem, of it refusing to install to HDD from a new USB drive version as my existing DVD version, for the expense and trouble.... unless I'm missing a leap in the logic here?
The Microsoft DVD\USB download utility name is actually  a misnomer. I don't know why Microsoft called it that. It is actually a usb installer and DVD installer creation utility. It does not require you to purchase anything.  Use the license that you already have when using the USB installer during a Windows 7 installation. There is no need to buy another. Licenses are always diistinctly seperate from the installation disk(s) or ISOs.  It is the same thing as a DVD installation disk except much faster.
You don't necessarily need to use an ISO image as suggested in the following video. You can also use your Windows 7 installation DVD as a source for the Windows 7 DVD\USB download tool.
    Any other suggestions, any-one?

  • How to move from 3 separated itunes music folders into one new hard discs??

So : i bought a new external 6TB thunderbolt hard disc (for extra speed for my huge library) and i copied from 3 other 2TB hard disc into there. I named the sub folder the same like an original. I thought it is enough to determine the new place of each in "media folder locations" and updated.... but its not working
What should i do? How will see the itunes these music folders like an originals??? I dont want to reimporting, because  i dont want to loose  all of my "date added, played etc" informations.
If I'm doing three  partitions with folders, as were the old ones will work?
..or should i rewrite the iTunes Music Library.xml with text editor?
pls help me and thx for answering!!!!!
    macbook pro/ osx 10.8.4 / itunes 11.0.4

Best to give the new iPad a different name. I assume you have purchased an iPad 2 or the next generation iPad which is just called "iPad"? If so, you can name the iPad 2 "Kens iPad 2" or "Kens iPad 3" since the new iPad just introduced is the 3rd generation.
The first time you connect your new iPad to iTunes on the computer used for syncing your existing iPad, you will be prompted to transfer the backup for your existing iPad to the new iPad, or set up the new iPad as a new iPad. Both must be followed by a sync with iTunes.
Each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes, which can be the same or different for each device synced with the same iTunes library and computer.

  • I bought and external usb hard disc, and i added it to time machine and now i can't use it! what do i do?

I just bought this external USB hard disc, and what I did was I put all of my pictures in there because I need space for my computer. What I did after that , is that I configured the hard disc with Time Machine, to clear some space also and to "protect" my data. But now I can't use my hard disc, I can't see my pictures I had in it and I can't use it for Time Machine either.
What can I do to get my pictures back?? Thanks!!

External USB hard disks come formatted, and unless they're specifically sold for use with Macs, they're formatted for PC's, with FAT, exFAT, or NTFS formats. Macs can read data from all three formats but can only write to FAT and exFAT formatted drives. So you could save your pictures to an external with either of those two formats. However, Time Machine needs a HD formatted and partitioned for a Mac, and if you "configured the hard disc" for use "with Time Machine," you effectively erased the pictures. However, since you "can't use it for Time Machine either," it's not clear exactly what you did, so we'd need to know that first. Also, what do you mean by "clear some space also?" On your internal or the external? And if the external, how did you do that since it already had your pictures and should still have had some empty space.
I'd suggest looking here to see if your external's format agrees with what Time Machine needs. Just look, don't actually change anything, so we have some baseline to work with. And also look at the box the external HD came in. What does it say about computer compatibility and which operating systems it's intended for (i.e., Windows, Mac, both).

  • What's happened to new hard disc?

Hi... I put in a new hard disc (1Tb) and partitioned with one space, then formatted as MacOs extended.
Then I did an erase, as advised in an earlier post. After 4 hours, it finished but is telling me I have 250gb free.... what can I do to get the other 750gb back?! There are no files on the disc....

Open Disk Utility. Click on the drive in the list on the left. Don't confuse the drive with the volume name(s) it contains that are indented below it on the list. In the lower part of the Disk Utility window, you will see seven lines of info in two columns. The two most important items are Total Capacity & Partition Map Scheme. The Total Capacity should be a little less than 1 TB (1000 GB) & the Partition Map Scheme should be GUID Partition Table.
If not, you will need to reformat the drive as you did before, but this time click on the "Options…" button & choose the GUID Partition Table partition scheme before you click the "Apply" button.
Now, click on the "Partition" tab at the top of the Disk Utility window. You should see a graphic representation of the hard drive's space & the partition in it. Does the partition extend all the way to the bottom of the drive's space? If not, grab the little resize handle at the bottom right corner of the partition (looks sort of like three slash marks) & drag it to the bottom of the drive space.
The "Zero Out Data" security option will do nothing to solve your problem or increase the available free space; nor will a simple, non-secure erase. At best, on a brand new drive it might slightly decrease the available free space but it certainly won't increase it & it probably will do nothing but waste your time & subject the drive to a tiny extra bit of wear. (See the Disk Utility help category "Erasing disks" for more about the security erase options & what they are for.)

  • T60 hard disc problem

    Dear Lenovo,
My T60 about four days ago has been ruined by a virus (spyware?) from xxxxxx.com, and since then I can not acces the hard disc. I can't boot the laptop and I have been used tools software such as chkdsk but still not working.
Please tell me how to solve this problem or please inform me where to find  lenovo authorised service centre in Jakarta, Indonesia for my T60.
    Best Regards,

    There are a few methods:
Restore your system using the recovery partition (I am unsure if you would lose any data on the existing drive - it is most likely you will)
Do a repair install of Windows if you have a Windows XP CD available (I do not know if Vista has this function)
Remove the hard drive from the computer, and plug it into a computer that has an antivirus already installed, using a laptop IDE to USB adapter if you have access to one
Look online to see if you can find more information about how to manually remove the virus - I have been unable to find that particular virus name - are you sure that is the virus you have?
It is likely your hard drive did not die, the virus just prevented your system from booting properly.

  • Hard disc and home folder capacity discrepancy

hi. am using a g5 imac , tiger.
my hard disc shows a capacity of 150gb but my home folder (and hence my documents, photos, music folders etc) show only 46gb available.
I havent partitioned my drive to the best of my knowledge.
I have tried running disc utility to repair permissions with no success - anyone know how i can make this "hidden " capacity available?
    many thanks

You are saying that your hard drive in Disk Utility shows 150 GB, and when you click Info that also shows 150GB? This would be the hardware drive details, indicated by the name of a drive manufacturer like Hitachi or Seagate? Plus when you select that and click Info, the pop up shows the same capacity (followed by the actual number of bytes)?
Offset under the hardware drive in the initial Disk Utility list will be any partitions that you have mounted. If selected, they will show the name under which they are mounted on the Mac. That should give a complete list (bottom of page) of the mount point, drive size, number of bytes used, and number of bytes free. What do they say?
